Speed check

Hi All,
I am having problems with my site speed again. The issue
seems to be once a new swf is called from a master swf. It takes
ages to call the swf and show the loading progress bar. Sometimes
it can take upto 30 seconds to work - but others, it is
instantaneousOnce the bar is up, the site performs as normal. The
swfs are all in the same place holder page.
The site is www.pumaknight.co.uk
This is very frustrating and no doubt losing me visitors.
Is this a flash issue, an action script issue or a hosting
issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Use these two websites. One is on the Verizon network, and one is off the network. This should give you a real world representation, in a sense, of how the line is performing.

  • Infinity Speed Very Slow and BT Speed Checker Not ...

Hi, I’m new here and I’m hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction with an infinity issue.
I’ve had BT infinity for almost 12 months and everything speed wise has been fine until the last month or so.  My modem started to slowly die in January, but this has now been replaced by Kelly Services, the engineer who replaced the modem said the speed would now increase.  It hasn’t and I’m stuck on about a 3mb download connection which is what I was getting previously with Talk Talk.  I usually get a connection speed of between 20 – 30mb (currently advertised as up to 40mb).  I’ve tried numerous times to run the BT speed test whilst wired to the home hub but it fails every time at 96% just saying test error.
I’m currently using the bbc iplayer speed checker to see what I’m running at and have tried this using a wireless and wired connection and there’s very little difference between the two.
I have a home hub 2 with firmware version 4.7.5.1.83.2.11.2.6 (Type B) Last updated 20/11/11
I’ve reset the home hub to factory settings since the modem was replaced and this did fix another issue I was having where I could not connect new devices to the home hub without having to manually enter all the network details, but no joy with the connection speed.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative speed check I can use to get all the necessary details that BT will want to see or will this be one for the mods to check?
    Thanks

    Hi and Welcome.
It is the BT Speedtest results ( http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ ) that BT need.
The IP settings you've been put on and the speeds your achieving are important parts of the FTTC Diagnostic test.
(Might be interesting to try the Beta up to 24Mbps if you still can't get the main one to run... although it will not have the full info).
So can only suggest you try turning off the Modem and Home Hub 2 for a minute or so, then when powered back up try and run the FTTC diagnostic part when WIRED.
(Might be worth trying a different ethernet port on the HH2).
And if you can another laptop to be really certain where the fault lies.
If  the test fails again I would paste a copy of the failure in your thread as "AFTER REBOOT and ETHERNET PORT CHANGE" Test Results failure.
Then complete the BT Forum Mods contact form http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
And add the URL of this form to the contact form, so BT can see the tests you've already tried and results.
They will contact you, it may take 72hrs or so due their workload.
Example of results the BT speedtest look like and improvement HERE.
Btw it's not recommended to turn the Modem off too often as that may trick the Exchange equipment (DLM) into thinking you have a line fault, and it could reduce the IP settings slowing down your broadband in an attempt to provide a reliable broadband.
An occasional turn off for testing or holidays will be ok though.
I've also had my modem replaced by Kelly, but still have it mounted vertically to make sure it's cooling vents work most efficiently. Make sure yours is still running cool.

  • Slow internet yet again, speed checker is useless

Usually the daily re-setting (yes daily) of the hub sorts out our rubbish broadband, but this time it didn't...so
Tried the speed/fix test: I'll try anything else but BT's mind numbingly terrible customer service.
First time couldn't complete as 'internet running too slow'...really?
Second attempt logged me out as the speed check was running as... it didn't detect any user activity (or something like that)?
Third attempt it said that flash wasn't installed?
Fourth attempt said something about 3rd party equipment not compatable?
So. 'Fix your connection' or whatever tool is rubbish too!!

  • How accurate is the speed checker?

How accurate is the speed checker? http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25795
Just had conversation with customer services where they claimed the maximum speed I could get was 6mb and the 17mb quoted in the letter was a "clerical error". I've worked out they must have been using the checker linked above but the speeds quoted aren't accurate for my connection. Does anyone else have a discrepency?

According to your attenuation I would hope for around 12mb on your line, that would be with the correct stats, SNR margin of 6dB which you have etc..  Although the reason I've highlighted the Output Power [Downstream] is because this should be around 19/20 and hence why you are probably not seeing the good speeds.  Please contact the mods, you can do that by following this link: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 and ask them to get it sorted for you and then you should see the speeds

  • FAO BT Moderator - Broadband speed checker concern...

    Hi,
I understand that broadband speed checkers can give very inaccurate readings of what broadband speeds you can expect to recieve.  My actual download speed (after running say BT Speedtester or speedtest.net) is approx 4mb and has barely fluctuated in the 3 years that I have been on BT Total Broadband.  Whenever I run a BT or Sky broadband speed checker (therefore not an actual test, just a line check), my estimated connection speed is usually around the same mark, 4-4.5mb.
HOWEVER!  Maybe once or twice a month when I run both the BT and Sky speed checkers, it will suddenly say that my estimated connection speed is only 0.5mb, even though when I run an actual test, I am still getting the 4mb approx that I have always got.  Then maybe a week will pass and it will be back up to the 4-4.5mb again!?!?!  I've ran the same speed checks using a friend's phone number (who is on the same ISP and Exchange) and his never changes?????
I appreciate that these speed checks are unreliable and it's the actual test that is the most important thing however it concerns me when one minute these line checks state I can get estimated speeds of between 4-4.5mb then the next minute it's saying 0.5mb.
I really would be grateful if a Mod would look into this issue for me.  In the meantime, does anybody else experience this problem or not why this may be?
Any advice would be gratefully received!!

It most certainly does and thank you for the speedy response as ever Roger.
My current IP is 4000 however my exchange did have a network upgrade 8 days ago (hence the 8 day connection time).  I've ran a few BTSpeedtesters since then and the download achieved has been coming out at approx 4.2-4.3mb so I'm assuming or more hoping that the IP should be raised to 4500 the next time the HH re-syncs.
    Thanks again.

  • Broadband Speed Check

I have been trying to check my broadband speed for the last two weeks but every time I tried I get the same answer, "We are unable to carry out the speed check at this time-please use an alternative speed check". This has been going on for at least the last two weeks.  In the mean time I have replaced my computer with a brand new machine, and still have the same problem!
I have been able to confirm my speed by using the alternative.  Any help will be appreciated.

  • Moving soon, speed checker giving odd results

We're currently buying a new house, and I was looking at transferring my Infinity to the new house - but the Speed Checker is showing Infinity as unavailable.  By mistake, I entered the house next to our target, which is on the same telegraph pole, and it comes up as available for that house.  The others on the same pole don't.
Then I looked around the corner, and the adjacent roads have full speed infinity.  It seems odd that a single pole has different enabling status for some houses.
Is there any way to find out why the provision is different?  If these are non-standard lines, direct to the exchange, then I would have thought that it would be a BT cost saving to revert them to "standard" provision - assuming of course, that the cabinet isn't full...
    Mike

only the phone number check will be accurate as the address / post code checks are based on postcode centres which may be on different cabinets

  • Bt Speed check

When checking my speed in MyBt I get the following message - Sorry, but we've not been able to match all of your details.
Everything appears to work OK, and other Speed Checks work.  Could it be my profile isn't set up yet?  My service only started last Friday.

Regardless of the cause of the above .... don't touch the router/hub, leave it alone and connected 24/7

  • Estimated Speed Check

I'm currently with Sky Connect, and only get 3-4Mb from a 8Mb connection.
When I perform a speed check on the BT website, it estimates my speed could be as high as 17Mb.
Is this actually possible, considering the low speeds I am currently getting?
Should I expect to be getting more with what I currently have?

you can switch to any provider you want just phone up sky and ask for a MAC code and when you have got it then phone up BT and order broadband from them giving BT the MAC code and you will then change providers automatically
    Hope that helps

  • Speed Checker Query & FTTC for Stamford Exchange

    Couple of queries, here goes.
I live in Ryhall which is attached to the Stamford exchange, hence the line attenuation is pretty high at 63dB. I've had a fixed rate 1Mbps service on this line for a few years now and after a few tweaks been rock solid. My old Belkin router used to report a Signal Margin of ~12dB, this has now been replaced by a 2Wire unit and the Signal Margin has now improved to 20dB. Interestingly, the Speed Checker on SamKnows has changed its readings to say a fixed 2Mbps is now available (previously a X) and ADSL2+ now 3Mbps. Is this because of the new router and would these rates be achievable in the real world?
FTTC RFS date is now set for the Stamford exchange 01/03/2011 would this include the cabinets in Ryhall?
    Thanks, Ozz

    Welcome Darren,
Bt Total Broadband is a rate adaptive product, and for new lines a period of line training needs to take place.
The training can last up to 10 days, and during that time no assumptions can be made as to the performance of the line, as various line configurations and speed will be applied by the exchange dslam.
Only at the end of training will you get a true picture.
It's important to leave the hub/router connected 24/7 with no manual resets during this period, so that a line solution can be applied and associated IP profile and SNRm then set.
At times the dslam will drop the connection, as part of the training, all normal.
If after the training period the connection is poor, then effort can be applied to investigate any line and noise issues.
If you think your line training is finished, then post your hub stats, and a BT speed test and the line connection can be evaluated.
    Hope this helps

Why does the router report this if the Ethernet is supporting the computers at Gigabit, and MOCA LAN is supporting the IPC Clients?
The clients should not care at this MOCA speed?
Does it matter that the LAN is running slow, since the MOCA WAN and LAN are at a different frequencies, and MOCA WAN not used with Ethernet WAN configurations?
Or would this too cause a bottle neck on the bridge, because with Gigabit LAN it should not?

  • Restore from tape speed check

Restore from tape : how we can find out out restore speed in MBs? and how to check if there are any bottlenecks/slow speed and what are things to adjust to increase its speed.

    Hi DBA2008,
With rman the backup of only the data will be transfered to tape so an almost empty 2g datafile will be faster than a full 2g datafile.
To actually measure the speed you should time a backup to tape and with <list backup;> get information about the amount of data transfered.
Than time the restore this will give you an idea.
Depending on your hardware allocating more channels in the rman command can improve performance.
You could also check the backup system documentation for helpful information to measure/improve the speed.

  • BT speed checker

    All,
What is the link for the BT provided broadband speed tester?
    thanks

The BT one gives a better result and shows the IP profile, but is a bit cumbersome. If you just want a quick check on your download speed then I use speedtest. If that gives bad results, do a proper check. Often though it's either the site you are accessing or local congestion (i.e. temporary problems).

  • Re: Only getting 20Mb, but BT beta speed check say...

I don't have BT broad band but Plusnet, who are owned by BT Whole sale.  My Line speed has beeen 3 to 3.5 meg, that was until BT installed Fibre optic cables and upgraded my local exchange December 2011, from then on my speed dropped to any where between .6 meg to wow 1.6meg! Strange thing BT started phoning me and sending junk mail through the post telling me they could give me 100% 6Meg!
I contacted Plus Net and registered the fault, they said that they could up grade my line to 21CN  (ADSL2+),  and give me a 3.5 meg line!!! The work was carried out but still my line speed went up and down I changed everything did all the test, but to no avail, BT checked the line to the local cabinet and said it was fine to there. So I am now waiting for a BT engineer to call. The strange thing is that I am not the only person with this problem in the surrounding area, I have heard that lot of people with non BT ISP's are suffering the same problem!!!!
The truth of the matter is that BT has the upper hand and can screw your connection till you give up and move to them.
    I think it is a called " CATCH 22"
    Ron.

This forum is for BT retail customers as you are a Plus-net user you need to post on there forum as no one here an help you with your problems
However i can say that upgrades to fibre will not affect your broadband as the fibre system a totally different a separate service and there is no point in affecting your connection as BT wholesale would be the loser financially
