Speed Download 4.1.12 interfering with Safari 3 Public Beta

I recently tried speed download 4.1.12, and it worked fine for the duration of the 21 day trial. After the trial, I decided not to purchase it and since it came up every time i tried to download something, I deleted the speed download application. Now that it is deleted, I cannot seem to download anything using safari. For example, when i tried to download TheFilter from the apple site, Safari just quit and the download did not occur. Similarly, I cannot seem to download anything by clicking on links on sites. I was wondering what I can do to restore safari to its normal pre speed download condition.

I think Safari Beta has an uninstall feature, while not certain, I read that it reenables Safari 2.
You don't have Firefox or IE as a backup eh?
As a precaution, you might do AppleJack first... if you can get it...
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.

  • I can't get rid of the HT1222 (Safari Public Beta) Update

Every single time I look to see if any updates are available for my Mac, it always comes up with this Safari Public Beta Update. I have tried downloading it a couple times. Each time, it downloads, and installs something, but every time that I go back to software updates, it still comes up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • I am unable to download movies, MPG, WMV, etc. with Safari. Why? Any solutions?

I am unable to download MPG, WMV,MPEG,etc, movies from the web when I am using Safari. Chrome works fine. Is there something in Safari that has to be adjusted or disabled to make it work?

There is some anecdotal evidence that the scripts on the Apple site that are supposed to detect the version of Windows you are running may fail for some users - jumping straight to the "Thank you for downloading ..." page with the installer not having been downloaded.  As an alternative, you can go directly to the relevant downloads:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (32-bit) - itunessetup.exe
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit) - itunes6464setup.exe
There is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" reference does not seem to fully define the scope of systems for which this alternative works better.
See turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more details if you're still having problems with installation.

  • Safari 3 co-residing with Safari 4 Beta

Several websites (mainly secure banking sites) that I visit do not yet accept Safari 4 Beta; is it possible to install Safari 4 Beta to co-reside with Safari 3 on the same iMac?

I asked a similar question in a different thread yesterday because I had noticed 4 Beta had overwritten v.3. The response I got was that the Beta version would have to be uninstalled and v.3 reinstalled. It's not very convenient - or typical in my experience of using various beta software releases over the years.
For whatever this is worth, I just checked my bank site (B of A) with 4 Beta and had no trouble logging in to my accounts.

  • I can't launch Safari Public Beta on my XP box....

Hello world, after I installed safari on my PC for the first time, and I launched it. I receive the error messages. "Safari Web Browser has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and I always press "Send Error Report". I hope the future Public Beta 2 may be different from the beta version I used.

... not that this question would be of any immediate help, Harry ... but is this the crash happening on the same PC where you were getting the similar crash with your iTunes 7.2.0.34?
is anyone else who was getting the iTunes 7.2.0.34 crash described in the following document:
iTunes 7.2 for Windows doesn't open
... (the version of this that was fixed in 7.2.0.35, that is), also getting Harry's "Safari Web Browser has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" message with the current public beta?

  • Cannot download PDF files from Internet with Safari.

What must I do (after resetting Safari) to be able to coherently download PDF files from the Internet

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Acrobat plug-in interfering with Safari quit

    I'm using Acrobat 8.0, Safari 3.2.3.
When I quit Safari it quits normally but then I get an error message saying that Safari has quit without notice, probably due to an Acrobat Plug-in.
So far it is an annoyance, not a substantive problem, but it makes me curious.

Good suggestion, since I am running acrobat pro 8.0.
But, I just downloaded 2 update dmg's from Adobe, 8.1.2, and 8.1.6, and cannot install either one. When I open the installer it asks me to locate the copy of Acrobat to be updated, and the app I have is not chooseable in the dialog box---remains greyed out.
Must I locate and download some specific intermediate update, then update a second time?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Opening downloaded .asp (Citrix ICA) files with Safari

I would like to have Safari, after downloading a Citrix connection file, open the Citrix ICA Client application and then use the file the establish a connection.
In other browsers, you can set this up under "helper applications" or something like that. I can't find where this is done in Safari.
I have Tiger and Citrix 7.02 for Mac. G3 IMAC.
    Thank you

  • HT4432 8gb upgrade interfering with safari

IVE UPGRADED MY MAC MINI (MID2011) WITH 4GB IN EACH SLOT AND SINCE THEN MY SAFARI BROWSER WILL CONSISTENTLY CLOSE AND QUIT OUT AND REPORT A PROBLEM BUT WHEN I SWITCH IT BACK TO MY 2GB MEMORY IT NEVER HAPPENS? WHAT DO I DO?
everything on my computer is up to date with exception im still running Lion 10.7.5
thanks guys!! i know you can help me!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • IMac will not auto sleep after 10.5.7 update with Safari 4 Beta

I've noticed that my new iMac 24" will not automatically sleep after updating to 10.5.7. Actually, that's not completely true, I've just discovered that if Safari Beta 4 (latest update) is open the iMac will never sleep automatically, but that if Safari is not open, automatic sleep works perfectly as it always did with 10.5.6. I've repeated this test numerous times and it's always consistent. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this?

Sorry that I do not remember where I saw this, could be MacFixIt, but the advice that I saw for issues with the 10.5.7 delta that comes through Software Update for folks with 10.5.6, was to download and overlay the 10.5.7 Combo as Carolyn has suggested, and then to download and install the most recent beta for Safari 4.
Of course this is best done without multitasking while the installations are happening, as well as unplugging and shutting down all other processes; external attachments and even Bluetooth and Air Port. Prepare for the installs by rebooting to your Install DVD and use Disk Utility in the Utilities Menu to verify and repair any issues with your boot volume, followed by rebooting into your account and using DU in Apps/Utilities to Repair Disk Permissions before and after the installs.

  • Latest iTunes would not download on Safari Public Beta 4

Upon entering the iTunes website, I was notified of an update. I proceeded with both the iTunes and Front Row updates. However, just a few minutes before the update was completing itself, I received the following Error Messages:
    "Update iTunes can't be installed."
    "Connection reset by peer."
"The Installer Package has been moved to the Trash. To try again open the package from Finder."
The Installer Package was not moved to the Trash.
I have tried to perform the update several times, but I continue to receive the above message.
Assistance will be appreciated to know what is going on with the Updater for iTunes and Front Row. The version I have for iTunes is 8.02.
    Thank you!

So I try to get this done for a little while! I download itunes but during installation i get a message concerning a .dll file.
With that one, even though you're getting a different error message, try the procedure from the following user tip:
"The administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" error messages when installing iTunes for Windows on Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems

  • Safari Public Beta 3 for Windows - 64-bit XP?

I installed the newly released beta on XP x64 and it's missing the interface. The menus are missing, and the bookmarks are just the blue dot icons with no text. Can't type in any addresses either.
Anyone else tried this? Is the app simply not x64 compatible, or is this a bug in the beta?

    Found this in another post
    1. Copy the Lucida Grande font files to the \Windows\Fonts directory.
    2. Rename the Safari.resources folder to something else.
    3. Try to start Safari, get an error message, and dismiss the message.
    4. Name Safari.resources back to its original name.
    5. Start Safari.
    Worked for me

  • ADE 1.7.2 not compatible with Safari 5.0.3 on Leopard (10.5.8)?

I cannot download a URLLink.acsm file with Safari 5.0.3, even after creating a com.apple.DownloadAssessment.plist file and adding "acsm" under "LSRiskCategoryExtensions" as suggested in the release notes for ADE 1.7.2 (Dated February 2010)
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/806/cpsid_80635.html
as well as the comment to the following blog post cited therein and restarting the computer:
    http://mymacinations.com/2008/02/06/changing-the-systems-default-settings-for-html-files-s afe/
I have to locate the file in "Download" folder download with FireFox while online and double-click it to open it with ADE 1.7.2.
In contrast, FireFox 3.6.13 installed on the same Mac (MacBook early 2009, MacOS 10.5.8) can download the a URLLink.acsm file without any trouble and prompts me to open it with ADE.
The system requirements for ADE 1.7.2 states that it supports the following browsers and Adobe Flash Versions on Mac:
Apple Safari 4, Mozilla Firefox 3
    Adobe Flash® Player 9 or 10
Does my trouble mean that ADE 1.7.2 released February 2010 is not compatible with Safari 5 released in June 2010?
When will ADE be compatible with the latest version of Safari?

ios 6 requires itunes 10.6.3 or higher which requires Mac OS 10.6.8 or higher
