Hi alakay,
This has happened due to many disconnections over a period of time. (As John46 says below could have also been caused by a random noise issue)
it is advised to keep the homehub/router switched on constantly and connected 24/7, as any restarts/disconnections or turning off of the router/homehub will make the dlm (exchange equipment) think there is a problem with your line and will either increase your noise margin, decrease your IP Profile, decrease your sync rate.
This is done automatically to stabilise the line.
If however the IP profile does not increase by 3+ days then come back here and we can look into the issue further. If needed you can get your IP Profile manually reset by the BT Care Team, but you will need to have a 3+day stable connection first.
If there is another disconnection within the 3 to 5 day period for your IP profile to recover then the counter will start again and will have to wait another 3 to 5 days for the IP Profile to recover.

    Hello All,
    I did a very foolish thing earlier in the week. I ordered a Home Hub 5 to replace my Hub 3. I installed it today and immediately the download speed dropped from an average 71megs (+BT WiFi Allowance) to 61megs. I spoke to online support and they basically told me I was only guaranteed about 55meg. Now, I have been getting 71 for more than a year - completely constant. No problems, very little variation. BT Wholesale Speedtest shows my download speed has dropped to 61.00 and my profile is set to 62.28. The slowdown is quite noticable in use. I presume the changeover has caused my line to be re-profiled which, naively, I didn't expect to happen as I was only changing the hub. My hub stats are shown below. Any help would be most appreciated. I have to say though that I should have followed the expression 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' and left things well alone!

    I have an update........ after several calls to India I finally found a level 2 Tech that seemed to know what he was doing, very helpful well spoken guy called Sanjeev (pobably never get him again).
    I told him that my HH5 drops out and is very unstable and I should get 75meg but was fluctuation between 6 and 32meg on wi fi.I told him I hve reverted back to my old Huib 3 and Router setrup and both him and an engineer that visited me said that ws a good move. He told me to do the following:
    Go into the hub and change the channel to 11 
    turn all media off that was connecting to the wi fi, from mobiles to laptops and iPads and even the Youview box
    unplug the Router then the HH3 and leave off
    he then resent the line to clear as he said "static/cache on the line and anything holding memory"
    a few minutes later he came back and said to start up the white Router untill the power and DSL lights were on and steady
    turn the HH3 back on and wiait for the 3 blue lights
    fire up my wireless laptop and go to Speedtest.net and check the speed and consistancey
    The result.......... back up to 36meg wifi which is what it used to be in my conservatory and steady as a rock. I get steady 75meg wired and I expect about 50% loss for the distance away through wi fi.
    I am now getting a £33 refund for my trouble and am now trying to arrange for the refund of my HH5 which I have told them is "Not fit for purpose" and asked for my contract to be reverted to before I upgraded.  Watch this spce for update

  • BT Infinity speed dropped from 77mb to 64mb

    Hi there I recently got BT Infinity 2. Which was brilliant for the first two weeks with a constant 77mb IP Profile. But sometime last week (possibly related to the wind and snow?) It just done an insant drop to 64mb and has stuck there ever since. Is there anything I can do to get my speed back up. Or do I have too wait 2-3 weeks for DLM to reset it automatically?

  • Broadband Speed Drop to 0.1MB

    Hello everybody,
    I'm having problems with my broadband, and would appreciate if anybody has had similar issues and can offer advice.
    I usually receive speeds of 2.5MB.  For nine days I have had a constant speed of 0.1MB.  I contacted BT on July 22nd in India and was told it was a line fault.  The line engineer arrived yesterday and tested the line at my home and the local exchange and said there was no problem at all; it must be a broadband issue and you have to call BT again.
    This I did and have had immense problems with the service there.  It's like talking to robots and they say it is a line/broadband issue and I now have to wait up to 48hrs for a call from a BT Openreach engineer.  I'm also having a daily call from the Complaints Manager in India.
    My problem is this:  despite six calls now to BT there has been no progress at all and it is incredibly draining to talk to the staff in India.  They are very polite and patient, but they don't really understand what they're doing, and I have little faith that progress will be made with the Complaints Manager (who yesterday told me that he was a 'manager', not just a 'technician' and that I should forget what the engineer told me and listen to him.)
    What options are there for me to have BT fix this problem other than what I have already done since this clearly has had no effect?

  • Broadband speed drops from 4mb to less than 0.5mb ...

    I am having speed problems since early December where during the day time my download speed is 4mb.  However, after 7:30pm the speed then drops very quickly to below 0.5mb.  I did a speed test just now and it is:

    I have tried calling India technical support, all I got was "we are looking into the problem" over the weeks.  Very frustrating as it is so difficult to understand them.  They keep giving me excuses as to the causes.  Today I am told there is a problem with the exchange. I asked when can this be fixed by, the response was they are not going to fix it as the equipment is very expensive to replace.
    I am so frustrate by all their so uncaring attitude that I have obtained a MAC code tonight.  Will a different provider be any different if the problem is with the exchange?
    Has any forum readers experience this speed dropping problem?  I can understand if the speed drops due to higher demands in the evening, but with this slow speed it is impossible to use the internet for anything meaningful as a web page took over 40 seconds to load. 
    I am on the unlimited Option 3, and my exchange is Poplar, London.
    Is there a BT moderator on this forum who can help me resolve this speed problem please?

    An update on my slow down boardband connection...
    I have reported the problem to "No Help Indian Technical Support" since 11 December, still no resolution! 
    I was told to wait until the end of February as work on the exchange may take place to increase capacity.  Nobody called to update me on what is happening since my last post.  Called Indian support for an update (17 March) only to be told my case was closed and problem resolved on the 28 February!  
    Then I asked to speak to a supervisor and the guy literally cut me off.  All I wanted to ask was why they think the problem was resolved when I am still getting the same slow down every evening.  I tried calling them again, but useless idiots who would make you answer their scripts again, but still they can't give me an update or what are they going to do about the problem.
    I am at a loss in how to obtain an update from them.  I am sure many of you who have the experience of calling Indian will end up with frustrations.  They will try their best to ignore you especially with questions they have not a clue in answering.  Every time they say they will call back, but no they don't. 
    Why is BT technical support be handled by such non-technical idiots?  The minute they have ran of scripts to follow then you are speaking to a blank wall.
    Anyone here know of a complaint number I can call or email?

  • Speed drops- can anyone help me please?

    I had a consistent speed of 1 MB when I got Broadband, not marvelous but bearable.  In the past year I have had my speed  drop, go through the process of the idiots with the scripts even though I have told them the same at least 10 times previously, the speed drops to 0.47 MB, they do all the stuff checks then say there is a line problem and my profile needs redoing.  The speed has risen then to 0.7 MB and never again reached 1 MB, but after a few weeks drops to 0.47 again.  I am 99% sure that BT are " robbing Peter to pay Paul" in the area, adding more people to a network using old wires and BT with all their billions of profit won’t spend a bit on adding a bit more sophistication. In answer to my question why am I not getting 1MB, I have had replies like “ it happens”, they have tried to sell me the thing where you pay a monthly fee to look at my computer, ( My computer is well protected and cleaned out daily) and they just treat people like we are at fault.
    So is there anyone who can help me to bypass the stupid scripted people who treat everyone like idiots and get someone to fix the speed, the stress of going through that performance is just too much for me.
     The irony is if I wanted to sign up for BT, the estimated speed available is advertised as 1 MB, are they breaking the trade description?

  • Big speed drop!!

    Hey, ive had BT Infinity for just over a month now, pay for upto 76mb, it started off fine, but the speed over the last 2/3 weeks it has intervals of serious drop in speed, these can last upto a day or 2! This happened again to me yesterday the download speed dropped during the evening and by the night it was below 1mb, during the next day it went up to 15mb but now again during the night its dropped below 1mb as the result below shows.
    im quite experienced with Internet etc, so done all the basic tests etc restarted router, pc, disconnected all wireless devices but still having this problem?!
    i also live within a stones throw of the exchange so that isnt the problem either!
    If anyone else has this problem or know any solutions they will be much appreciated

    As you can see on the stats you have posted, your IP profile is 70.37Mbps the data rate for your line is 72.59Mbps and your max data rate is 72.69Mbps with the noise margin at 6.5. This would indicate no problem with your actual connection.
    Have you tried a speed test with your PC turned off/disconnected from the network. It could be something running on it that is slowing your network down.

  • Connection speed dropping

  • Wireless internet speeds slower after upgrading from 10/2 to 50/25?? Using olders revision Mi424WR.

    We have been using the oldest version/revision of the Actiontec Mi424WR router provided by verizon for 3+ years.  Recently we upgraded from an outdated 10/2 internet plan to our current 50/25 wireless plan.  The speeds when wired are fantastic, but with wireless, on multiple computers the speed even right next to the router hovers at about 10mbps.  I understand about the degradation and limit of wireless signals, but we should absolutely be getting higher download speeds than 10mbps(~1Mb/s).  On our older 10/2 mbps plan our devices were receiving consistant download speeds of higher than we are getting now, maxing out at 1.6Mb/s usually.  The only change that has been made recently is we reset the router to fatory settings, leading me to believe that wireless settings that were in place before are no longer there and throttling wireless speeds.  I do not expect to get the full 50+ mbps speed that I am getting from wired, but I do expect my wireless speeds to be consistent with our upgraded plan(let alone slower than our massively slower old plan).  Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    You should definetely get better speeds even with an older router, upto about 20 or so. 
    If that works for you, then it's probably just a little wireless interference.   
     you can change that in the router.   open a browser, and go to http://192.168.1.1
    user name is admin.  and the password is most likely the serial number found on the service tag of your VZ router unless you changed it. Once you login succesfully, go to the top and hit wireless, then on the left basic security.   then go to option 3 which is channel  1, 6 and 11 and are the only channels you should try.
    So it will likely be set to auto, change it to 11 and put the check for keep settings even after reboot (Directly under the channel) and then hit apply.  after you hit apply,  test your connection out, if you notice a difference, leave it like that until the problem happens again, and if it happens again, go back into the router, and try channel 6,     test it out.  and then finally 1 if the first two don't work.
    Also take a look at page 2 of Actiontec's Wireless PDF File.  It gives you some idea's with regards to position and orientation of where the router sits and how it can best be positioned for maximum coverage.

  • Huge speed drop on Infinity2 :(

    Hi all, Ive been signed up with BT for nearly a year now and have been very impressed so far (after coming from VM) - Im on the Infinty2 plan with Broadband/Phone only and speeds ever since installation have been very fast and consistent, infact no problems whatsoever since day 1...
    Until about a week and a half ago when I noticed content heavy pages and sites started to take a while to load, so I ran a speed test and the first one reported about a 50% drop in speeds. Slightly worrying but still reasonably fast. Over the following days using the net started to become a real pain to use, pages were taking a longer and longer time to load (or timing out) and watching videos become increasingly difficult, gaming suffered the most (the reason for buying the service) and with each speedtest I ran the speeds were getting lower and lower. At the moment my connecton is currently runnning at about 2-3mb down and seems to be capped at 1mb up?
    After a call to BT and a visit from the engineer the next day, he said the line appeared to be ok and was reporting a speed of 76/20. Ive since changed the router back and forth between the HH3 and my own Netgear one and the NG produces a slightly faster speed but still only a fraction of what I'm paying for :/
    Any help would be much appreciated, or pointers in the direction of further trouble shooting.

    Time for another update - sadly still no change. After searching a lot of tech forums I found a few settings and checks to carry out (mostly command line stuff)  At the weekend, after resetting/clearing the DNS cahce there was a slight increase for a few hours - jumping to about 8 up and 5/6 down :/
    But after the weekend the speed dropped back down again to the usual '2 down and 1 up', The connection at the moment appears to be so slow that even the BTW speedtest can't carry out the further diagnostics part of the test!
    The only test I haven't tried recently is a direct connection to the modem from my pc (as this will involve moving furniture and general faffing, so this is a job for the weekend!)  as I'm using a different router at the moment, NetGear WNDR3400
    After searching on the web, Ive found and tried the following things:
    -global autotuning setting in win7 - disabled or auto
    -disable IPv6 on network card
    -change speed/duplex setting on network card from auto to 1Gbit/Full duplex
    -update driver for network card (was slightly out of date)
    -reset tcp/ip and winsock settings in win7
    -flush/release/rest DNS settings
    None of these settings made little (if any) difference apart from clearing the DNS which led to the temp increase in speed at the weekend.

  • WRT54G2 v1-Wireless speed drops after a few hours/days, changing channel fixes it

    Hi.
    I have a WRT54G2 version 1 with the latest firmware from June 2009.
    I have found that it performs very well (10-11mb wireless speeds) for a while (a few hours or sometimes a few days) but then the wireless performance drops below 1mb. Wired performance is not impacted. 
    It seems that I can immediately solve the issue by changing to another channel. The speed jumps right back up. However the same problem happens again eventually and again changing the channel fixes it (and even changing it back to the channel I had originally will fix it). 
    Any thoughts? I've never had a router do this and it's quite annoying.

    Nope this didn't fix it within minutes the same issue popped up. Note that this doesn't occur with another wireless router I own (I swapped it out just to test). I'd just not even bother with the WRT but my Vonage box doesn't work with my other router so I need to use this one. Any other ideas?

  • Speed drop caused by christmas tree lights?

    We got new christmas tree lights last week and the next day i noticed a major speed drop on my ps4 connection. When I switched the christmas tree lights off the speed went back up. I am using home plugs on the ps4 for internet. I get around 23mb download and 1.2mb upload. I tried a surge protector on the christmas tree lights and speed didnt go down as much maybe only 2-3mb so I thought id be fine with that.
    Now today my overall upload speed is only 0.6mb. Thats been cut in half. And it is on all devices, not just the ps4. Would the lights be causing interference not only to the home plugs but to the router as well? The router is in same room as the christmas tree.
    I have now switched christmas tree off. How long do I have to wait till I see my speed get back to normal? My ping has went up from 28ms to 45ms. I need a good ping for online gaming.

  • PLW400 Speed drop and other issues

    Hi..
    I bought the PLW400 a while back and it's been working perfectly for months!.. but two weeks ago it stopped working.. so I turned it off and back on but still didn't work. So I did a full reset and reconfigured everything and it finally worked.. but the speed dropped from 20mb to 1mb!! and every few hours it stops working and appear to have lost connection or sometimes it works but with a super slow (dial up like) speed! and sometimes when it stops all of the sudden I see the LEDs blinking slow or turned off!
    I've tried to plug it in different places and it was all the same, but when I tried plugging it in next to the main device in the same room I got 10mb.. better but still! my original speed when connecting directly to my router is 40mb!!  What's going on here?
    Has anyone else experienced something like this? can someone please help me?

  • Broadband Speed dropped and wont come back

    Hi, I need help and advice please.
    Background info first though, so please bare with me.
    During last July 2011 I was fed up of very low speeds and managed to get a BT engineer out to check the wiring etc... He did a great job by finding a badly insulated cable between myself and the Cabinet in our village. He also changed our master socket to a newer version.
    Over the next few days my broadband speed went from 0.74mb download to 1.95mb download. Fantastic!
    This speed has pretty much been a consistent rarely dropping below 1.7mb and at times has even gone up to my highest recorded of 2.46mb. I thought this was brilliant, I could watch iPlayer no problems and xbox live was even bearable (most of the time).
    The big problem where I live is sometimes we have power cuts. Sometimes lasting hours but mainly just for seconds. Even so it switches the BB router off. (I know, but not my fault)
    When we had the freak snow fall the other month problems started to raise their head. The computers in the household found issues connecting to the router and to resolve this BT BB Helpdesk kept advising me to reset router to enable connection. After connecting new ADSL filters the speed returned but connection issues continued.
    BT supplied me with a brand new home hub 3 which I connected thinking it would give me my 2.4mb speeds again. Oh No. To be fare I think I was getting 1.95mb but I wanted more, as most people would. Why cant I get 2.4mb most of the time I have had for a few months.
    Anyway I contacted BT who were kind enough to send a BT engineer out. He Said to me the Broadband speed is put out at the exchange (4.5km) at 8mb and comes into our village at between 3mb and 4mb. He detected no fault on the lines and spent the next 3 hours renewing 'D' and 'E' I think side of cabling (found this out later). He mentioned the noise was high but did something to lower it. On leaving he said I had 2.5mb and was confidant it would rise to 3mb.
    Great not drastic but should give me 250kbs to 50kbs extra.
    The day he was at my house we had 2 short power cuts followed by another couple some days later. This has not helped I'm sure.
    NOW TO THE ISSUE.
    My download speed since that day has not gone above 1.46mb download and every time I speak to the call centre they tell me my line is only capable of 2mb therefore 1.46mb is within acceptable range.
    I am so tired of explaining that I was capable of receiving 2.4mb some 2 months ago yet now since the new hub 3 and line fiddling I am only capable of a 2mb downstream - 1.46mb DLS.
    I know I have to wait 3 - 10 days but with power cuts its a nightmare, and they are so adamant about my 2mb downstream limit What the hell has happened.

    Hi JONNYYOUNG,
    I'm not educated enough to help but it mat reassure you, as it did me, to know your circumstances are not unique.
    Your story sounds very simialr to my experiende last November, speeds and line length being very similar.  An engineer said there was noise on my line so he switched me to another pair.  Did the engineer do that for you too ? Net result my speed dropped from ~2.3 to ~1.4Mbps. 
    Fortunately a 21CN upgrade at my excahnge has brought my speed back up to ~2.4Mbps.
    I'm sure imjolly, john46 and maybe a mod if you need it will sort you out as well as they did me.
