Speed Getting Slower As Year Goes By, Now Baerly U...

Hey Guys, Firstly Happy New Year, When i first moved into my house november last year my broadband was superb, I was getting an average of 5MB broadband.
Now over the year it has got lower and lower and from the 26th till the 4th i had no internet connection what so ever. BT sent out an engineer who identified that there was a problem on the pole & in one there boxes and true to his word boom internet poped back on.
But the internet connection i now get is 0.1MB. I can only just use the internet the connection is that slow, id proberbly be better off with dial up. Heres a Speedtest link
Has anybody else had simular problems like this with BT. If so what did you do to resolve the issue?
Thanks
Carl

Well my connection has only just come back online having been off for about 2 weeks +.

  • Mini gets slower as day goes on

My girlfriend purchased a Mini a few months ago. When we first turn it on, it works fine like it should. As the day goes on, something is eating up the memory or something because it keeps getting slower and slower. If we leave it on all day, by the evening it's unbearable. We once (unofficially) clocked the loading of Safari at right around 2 minutes. What steps should we take to fix it, or do we have to take it in?

You may well be suffering from a problem in Safari if you have that running for any length of time - it slowly eats up more and more RAM and slows the entire system down when it does so. Usually quitting Safari and resrarting it solves the problem, but sometimes nothing short of a system reboot will do.
You might want to download a copy of MenuMeters (from versiontracker.com) and set it to show you basic system information such as paging and CPU use (it's a preference pane where you can set it to show a number of system parameters in the menu bar for easy reference). That way you may be able to see what it is that slows your mini - memory use, CPU load, paging etc. That'll help determine what needs to be done about it.
Nick in the previous post is right however - try a bit of routine maitenance first, fixing permissions, and using YASU (it's the simplest of the alternatives) to run all tasks. It may not help this particular problem, but will at least help determine what ISN'T the problem!

  • Computer Speed Getting Slower

I purchased the G5 dual 2.3 last spring just after they were released and shortly after added 2 gigs of ram to it to help with real time playback during video editing. After I put it in I did a test to see the improvement and was pleasantly surprised that I could playback 5 layers of video with multiple filters on them without rendering in Final Cut. Since then, however, I've noticed a steady decline in my computer's ability to do what I figured the RAM was there to do. I haven't experienced any faulty RAM horror stories like the ones we've all heard. It just seems to me that my computers performance is getting slower and not able to handle as much realtime playback. I have been looking in MacAddict and MacWorld to see if they pinpoint this problem, but have found other RAM articles that don't apply to this. Is there something that I could do to boost performance and possibly restore things to the way they were when I first installed the RAM?

What free space do you have on your FCP scratch disk? Performance will drop as your HD's fill up.
Try freeing some space on your boot drive and video/data drive.
You are using a seperate boot HD and video/data HD? If not you'll find this helps.

  • BB speed getting slower and slower

    Hello,
my speed is dropping slowly but surely, it was at 18mbps downstream at one point and was perfectly stable i am now at 13mbps it has been dropping all the time,
Had the line for over a year now and it just keeps dropping eventually im gunna be at an abysmal speed, im paying the same amount as a infinity customer but i cant get infinty at my property even though there is a poster on my exchange at the end of the road saying infinity is now available in your area call to get it, but yet i am told its not even planned for my area how pathetic and misleading.
Ive had nothing but poor customer service from BT and i am counting down the 4 month untill my contract is at an end.
People say i might be whingin but im paying exactly the same amount as someone who has 10 times my connection, surely this cant be right? is there anything that can be done to fix my speed to a speed it was perfectly stable at.
Rant over any help would be appreciated

  • Broadband speed getting slower and slower by the d...

    Hi,
Ive had BT Infinity for a couple of months now, and it was absolutely fine, lightning quick, was connecting at roughly 70mb down and 16mb up, 2 months later im barely getting 40mb down and 12 up, and now starting to see packet loss as well. Im a livestreamer which is why I went with infinity in the first place, but streaming to the internet is becoming increasingly impossible.
Ive reset the router several times, disconnected every phone in the house etc, and nothing, still the same issue, and at times Ive seen my connection drop as low as 22mb in spikes.
Here is a tracert to live.twitch.tv which is their servers, but ive also had packet loss to twitter.com, news.sky.com and even google.co.uk at times.

    Hi jr_uk,
I'm sorry to read about your BT Infinity speed issues. Are you connected via ethernet or wireless and if you connect via ethernet do you still experience slower speed issues?
    Thanks

  • New HD and OS installed, but system gets slower as time goes by

I have just put in a new 250GB HD, a new DVD-R drive, and installed a new OS(10.4.11). When the Powerbook first boots up, it works fine, but as time goes by(just a few minutes even), the system gets bogged down and eventually grinds to a halt. I've been told the HD is "leaking" to a file and the file is getting bigger and bigger to the point that the system can't run. I've watched the HD and I don't see any files getting bigger, but the HD "GB available" gets smaller and smaller(starting at 221GB and going down to below 200GB. Not sure what to do next. Please help.

Use Activity Monitor to see what is hogging your CPU cycles and slowing the machine down. The difference between 200GB available and 221GB available is not causing the slowdown. The process that is consuming enough CPU cycles to write 21GB of data to the hard drive is your problem.

  • Macbook pro 2011 model, getting slow opening applications. freezes every now and again too. any ideas??

i have recently found that my macbook pro has been getting quite slow at opening applications. i also have countless pop-ups and advertisements on my internet browser and some applications freeze on my screen and i have to close the lid of my laptop and re-open to get it working again. My macbook was bought new last august so is not very old and i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it?? should i take it into store?

Sounds like you got some form of malware. Not a virus per se, but something that is both impacting the running and launching the various popups.
Generally, you install these, knowingly or not. Be very wary of installing anything int he future.
For now, you need to either search them out, or get a program that can do it for you ( i am not familiar with them), or, worst case, backup, re-install system, copy only your files back.  Destroy old backup and make new.
You might use the activity viewer to search for suspicious programs, then look for them, and remove them. But its hard.
Stay away form those sites and dont load stuff int he future.

The area i live in has a very poor internet speed however in the last couple of months it has got significantly slower, where web pages arent evening loading and streaming is getting near impossible
BT call centre suggested leaving it an hour, then a day then a few days and they would 'fix' something. No change ever happens after these calls and leaving the internet unused for days at a time is getting unacceptable

Hey, i have updated my Neo V to ICS. Everything working fine but whenever i want to access the "Phone" aap, it delays every time means it takes upto 5-6 seconds to show the keypad.
Can anyone provide solutions to this !!

Have you attempted to run a factory data reset since the update? If not I advise you do, however please backup any phone data you wish to keep before doing so.

    Hello
Well last Tuesday my line was upgraded to the 20mb ADSL2 and I was looking forward to some increase in bandwidth (even though before the upgrade my line was pumping 7mb most of the time which I was happy with)
Now for some reason I am getting slower speeds than before I upgraded. Something tells me I should not have bothered with the amount of effort it took to get the upgrade.
I cant understand why my DL is saying 3000+ and before upgrade it was reading 7500+
I have not reset my hub manually all disconnections have been done automatic.

  • Standard BT Exchange speeds just get slower and sl...

St.Athan exchange, Vale of Glamorgan, S.Wales - Over the last year the speeds I am able to get from my broadband connection are just getting slower and slower. A year ago I could just stream video (important since my business deals in this medium). However, now not only can I not stream video, I have trouble doing the most basic of internet business. Not only is my line speed slow (2mbs tops) but it drops out all the time.
I know it is not my service provider at fault or my house lines because all my neighbours are having the same problem and are with differing ISP's.
It must be that the exchange is getting steadily more oversubscribed and can no longer handle the amount of work it is being asked to do.
I think that my only option (and others in the area) is to completely ditch the BT landline and opt for mobile internet. The speeds available on mobile internet using a device like 3's MiFi arent fantastic but they should at least blow my BT connection away.

As you have stated that you are a business user, then try the Business forum here http://business.forums.bt.com/
they are more likely to be able to help you, as this forum is for domestic customers of BT Broadband.

  • FIRE FOX IS GETTING SLOWER AND SLOWER LOADING PAGES I GO TO ONLINE. IT LOAD CIRCLE STOP SPINNING AND WILL START BACK BUT IT TAKES IT'S TIME TO DO SO. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON THROUGH THE LAST SEVERAL UPGRADES.

FIRE FOX USED TO BE A FAST BROWSER BUT IT IS GETTING SLOWER AND SLOWER. THE BLUE-E IS ABOUT TO THE POINT OF BEING FASTER THEM THE FOX. I HAVE ALWAYS LIKE THE FOX, JUST WANT TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM WITH IT AND THE LONGER I HAVE THE WINDOW OPEN ARE UP THE WORSE IT GETS. I DO A LOT OF GAMING ON FACEBOOK PLAYING MAFIA WARS BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOT LIMITED TO JUST THERE IT IS ALL THE TIME AND EVERY WHERE. I HAVE TRIED ADD-ON'S THINKING THEY MAY HELP BUT NOTHING HAS DONE ANY GOOD. CHROME IS TWICE IF NOT THREE
TIMES AS FAST AS THE FOX LATELY ON LOADING PAGES.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Firefox keeps getting slower and slower as the day goes on

It's exactly as the title suggests - it works fine first thing in the morning, then gradually gets slower as the day goes on. Last night, for example, I couldn't get on any sites for love nor money - all it kept saying was 'transferring to...' 'loading...' whatever site I was going on, YouTube videos keep freezing etc (I have to keep pausing and waiting for the little grey bar to extend a little; such a trivial thing, yet so annoying! I also unchecked the 'Use hardware acceleration where possible' thing in 'Options', to no avail).
I've done all the usual tests (scan, virus checks etc), all of which have come back perfectly clear. I used Internet Explorer, yet that works perfectly OK, aside from a little slowness in getting a page to load, but I think I'm using a rather dated version of IE (I got my computer September 2012, and this version of IE was already installed on there!), so maybe that's to blame.
I've reset Firefox, to no avail. It's getting on my nerves!! The YouTube part of my problem only started Wednesday night, and the slowness of Firefox started yesterday. As bizarre as it may seem, may the weather be causing the Internet to go slow, as it is unbelievably hot and humid here in the UK at the moment! I remember my Mum saying she had the same problem around this time last year when it was boiling hot!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
