Speed is the #1 criteria

Speed is my #1 criteria. Speed of finding answers, getting answers, posting questions, and just general page loading.
I view these forums almost exclusively from my daytime job. I can't be see as continually web surfing. I need to get an answer to particular questions quickly. So page load speed is important.
This is why the current forum is so great- just text, hardly any css, no javascripts, no images, no avatars, no advertising, no Flash/flash. I also need a way to see as much as possible of each topic on screen at once. Currently I can see almost all current topics without scrolling my page. I can see if my post is answered, or new posts are there, etc. Having to scroll 3 pages with lots of wasted space time consuming. Having only 1 page worth of topics, but with tons of fancy frames and wasted space and such so I only see, say 15 topics per page, will kill me. I'd rather see 50 or 100 topics listed on one page than need to load multiple pages. Perhaps a pref to show XX items per page if need be.
I am against avatars, long signatures, javascripts, and wasted vertical space, and Flash.
I also HATE grey text. All text should be BLACK. Unless it is grey for a real reason, like a legal disclaimer or something.
I would like to be able to upload screenshots to be able to clarify problems, that is one thing I will accept if it's a tiny bit slower.
Sorry to sound like a rant but in order to do my job I need these forums to get answers. Having them crash n burn like the last time would be a big problem.
Thanks,
Chris

Wow. Ann, do you realize that you've just described the advantages and a few basic features available all NNTP newsreaders? ;)
I'm a long time fan of NNTP and have been reading both adobeforums.com and forums.macromedia.com newsgroups for many, many years (migrated from CompuServe). I even used MM's dial-in BBS a few times.
I abhor the FuseTalk Web forum software used in the former MacroMedia forums. I do think that the Web forum interface in the old Adobe forums is MUCH better, though still not as good as a real newsreader.
I've only seen a few of your posts in this forum and hope that my first impression of you is wrong. Just thought I would let you know that a MM newsgroup regular agrees 100% with one of your posts.
Yes, this recent post of yours expresses some of my hopes for the new forum. Though I may be resistant to change, I have no problems adapting when a new system is an approvement over the old - else I would still be using teletypes and snail-mail.
I would likely leave if it were to perform the same as either of the existing interfaces. But I will not make such a decision until I've had a chance to kick the tires and take a good, long test drive in the fully migrated and implemented version.

  • Speed on the Airport Extreme

    Hi I have a Macbook running Leopard. Everything runs well. Ever since I bought the Airport extreme WIFI N router my connection speed to the connected external hard drive is rather slow.....
    Here is what i do....
    I have a 250gig Mybook connected to the Airport extreme. On the airport utility settings, if I set it to only N wifi the speed is very slow. So i have to keep it on the multiple settings (b/g/n). According to my Macbook, when I have the multiple settings the speed is 130 mbs but if it's on only n then it's 300mbs.
    So my question is, why is the connection faster when it's on multiple settings then when it's on just N?
    is there a fix for this?

    Leopard Ron, Welcome to the discussion area!

    I'm confused by your question. Your first statement says that it is faster (300 Mbps) in 802.11n only. Your question seems to indicate the opposite.

  • How to speed up the performance in Oracle APEX - Classical Report loading

    Hi,
    I am using APEX 4.2, DB 11.2.
    I have created 2 reports in the page and the time that is taken to load this page is very huge.
    To speed up the performance materialized views were used on queries, but still the performance is the same.
    checked the app in DEBUG mode, the following event takes a lot of time to execute:
    0.08415 4.76698 rows loop: 15 row(s) the query onky takes very less time to execute

    Check query performance very carefully. If you execute the SQL more than once in a short amount of time the data will be in memory and accessed more quickly. It is possible that your fast response time was against cached data and therefore faster. If this is the case further tuning the SQL (the MV query) may help.
    It is also possible the slowness is due to other factors - network, firewall, antivirus software, etc. I am running Apex on my laptop using the embedded pl/sql gateway and due to antivirus and security software it can take pages 30 seconds or more to load.

  • How can I speed up the extract() function queries on XML

    Hi,
    Please I need some light on xml and indexes.
    This is my case:
    I use Oracle 9i R2.
    I have a table with some rows containing some few xml documents (each row contains a big xml document).
    Given a value for an attribute of a tag, I want to extract the entire section within the tags.
    Example:
    <MYTAG number="1">
    .....big stuff here
    </MYTAG>
    <MYTAG number="2">
    .....big stuff here
    </MYTAG>
    <MYTAG number="x">
    .....big stuff here
    </MYTAG>
    So for number=2 I would like to extract from the document the xmltype
    <MYTAG number="2">
    .....big stuff here
    </MYTAG>
    I created an index and have followed all the steps from the XML Database Developers Kit manual. Then I would use extrac() as the document says.
    Now some doubts arised:
    Are these text/xml indexes only useful for getting the rowid of my document?
    I mean, if I select 'x' from the table looking for some value, then the index is used. But when I use extract in the select to get the section I look for, the query gets really low, specially when xml documents are big. I think when I have only row with one document, getting the rowid is not the problem, but the extraction from the document is.
    Is the extraction process faster because of the index?
    For what I see, the index only helps me to find the rowid, but then Oracle has to deal with the very big document inside the row. At that point Its oracle against a big text processing and index has nothing to do.
    How can I speed up the extraction of the section?
    If there any other index or tool for help extraction to be faster?
    I would appreciate to know what can I do. I need help on this.
    Thanks in advance!

    Well,
    - What indexes, if any, already exist?
    - What do the functions rl and nice do?
    - What are the current query plans?
    - How restrictive are the various predicates?
    - What version of Oracle?

  • How to change the view criteria at run time for af:query

    Hi,
    I've a usecase where I need to change the view criteria of the af:query at run time.
    Use case:
    =======
    1) Consider a check box (Show Emps Under Dept 10) in the query panel when user selects and clicks 'Search' button should show the employees under dept 10. If user searches without selecting the check box, the results should show all the employees in all the departments.
    2) I need to have a check box always in the query panel. Its mandatory.
    The way I implemented:
    ==============
    1) Created a transient variable 'Show Emps Under Dept 10' in the EmployeeVO and also created a bind variable bind_DeptNo.
    2) Create a view criteria 'AllEmployees' which has only the transient attribute as the view criteria item and whose value set to 'false' by default.
    3) Created another view criteria 'EmpUnderDept' which has 'DepartmentId' as the view criteria item and whose value set to the bind variable 'bind_DeptNo'.
    4) Dropped the view criteria 'EmpUnderDept' as the 'af:query' panel in the jspx page.
    5) Overridden the queryListener as '#{EmpBean.empSearch}'
    6) Has the below code in the empSearch method as below. When user selects the check box, applying the other criteria 'EmpUnderDept' and setting the bind variable to '10'.
    public void empSearch(QueryEvent queryEvent) {
    // Add event code here...
    QueryDescriptor queryDesc = (QueryDescriptor) queryEvent.getDescriptor();
    ConjunctionCriterion conCrit = queryDesc.getConjunctionCriterion();
    List<Criterion> criterionList = conCrit.getCriterionList();
    List criterionValues = new ArrayList();
    Object criteriaValue = null;
    int criteriaNo = 0;
    DCBindingContainer bc = (DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    for (Criterion criterion : criterionList) {
    AttributeDescriptor attrDescriptor = ((AttributeCriterion)criterion).getAttribute();
    System.out.println("============== attrDescriptor.getName() =================== " + attrDescriptor.getName());
    criteriaValue = ((AttributeCriterion)criterion).getValues().get(0);
    if(criteriaNo==0) {
    Boolean val = (Boolean) ((AttributeCriterion)criterion).getValues().get(0);
    if (val.equals(true)) {
    OperationBinding method = (OperationBinding) ADFUtil.findOperation("ExecuteWithParams");
    if(method!=null) {
    Map params = method.getParamsMap();
    //params.put(key, value)
    method.getParamsMap().put("bind_DeptId", 10L);
    method.execute();
    ADFUtil.invokeMethodExpression( "#{bindings.EmpUnderDeptCriteiaQuery.processQuery}", queryEvent);
    } else {
    //ADFUtil.invokeEL("#{bindings.ExecuteWithParams.execute}");
    ADFUtil.invokeMethodExpression( "#{bindings.AllEmployeesCriteriaQuery.processQuery}", queryEvent);
    But this approach is not working and its always showing all the employees in all the departments.
    Please let me know if there is a way to change the view criteria at run time depending on the values set at run time for one of the view criteria items.
    JDev version am using is '11.1.1.5'
    Thanks,
    Lakshman

    Hi Shay,
    It worked for me without overriding the executeQuery() method in the ViewImpl.java.
    Instead of creating 2 view criteria, I created only one which has both transient variable and the DepartmentId = <bind_DeptId>. With the above code, it worked properly. Now I am using only one view criteria.
    Thank you.

    Maybe your internet is very slow.
    Try reset iPad
    Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Is there a way to speed up the response time from the dock

    Is there a way to speed up the response time for external hard drives from the dock? I have three external HDs but when I click on the alias in the dock there is always hesitation before it opens. I'm leaning towards the fact that it is just a result of the fact that the speed of the Mac is what it is. But, maybe there is something I can do to speed it up. The drives are plugged via usb directly to the Mac and they have there own power source. The curious thing is that they once were plugged into a large separately powered USB hub and I don't recall a lag like I have now. Any thoughts? Thanks...

    Have you got the drives set up to spin down when not in use?
    Have a look at the Energy Saver settings in System Preference on the Mac.
    Make sure the "Put the Hard Discs to sleep when possible" box is not ticked.

  • Can this html code be changed to speed up the image load time?

    I found some html that creates a auto running slide show. I've got three images (small image sizes) but it is slow to start up when the page is first opened. http://web.me.com/phelpssculpture/Site/test.html this is the escaped code:

    document.getElementById('imageholder').src = images[image_index];
    setInterval('rotateImage()', 5000);
    </script>
    I have a page: http://web.me.com/phelpssculpture/Site/Resume.html
    that has a rollover image (from OldToad) that has two images about the same file size and located in the same folder on my iDisk as the other slide show images but it seems to load instantly.

    Ethmoid:
    There are seven different pages: http://web.me.com/phelpssculpture/Site/movieroyal_davidphelps.html
    Each link is directed to a different page.
    I created the basic layout on one page and then duplicated the page six times.
    the links are in one text box ( that's why they're lined up well ) and each individual word is activated as a link. I changed the background color of the forward tab to match the color of the main shape and used the send forward or send backward command to get the tabs to look right on each page.
    The only problem with the words being in a single text box is that explorer doesn't render the spacing correctly and they fall off their respective tabs. When I get time I will put each word in it's own text box ( it's not that hard to align them ) so it will render properly in explorer.

  • Speeding up the Get-MailboxStatistics cmdlet for ~19K mailboxes.

    Greetings,
    While this is partially a PowerShell scripting question, I am posting it in the Exchange 2010 forum because the issues I believe center around the Get-MailboxStatistics itself, and the speed of my scripts in Exchange 2010 (possibly
    due to the additional overhead in remote PowerShelling).
    In my Exchange 2010 system we have ~19,000 mailboxes spread accross multiple DAG nodes, and ever since we upgraded from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, gathering all of the mailboxes and then gathering their statistics takes almost
    twice as long. For example a script that used to take ~45 minutes in Exchange 2007, takes about an hour and a ½.
    The issue I am running into when clocking core aspects of a mailbox data gathering scripts is that the Get-MailboxStatistics seems to be taking an excessively long period of time, and I am hoping someone can help me figure out a
    way to speed up the process.
    For example this is a boiled down script I created, where I ripped out a ton of other things and just focused on the Get-Mailbox and Get-MailboxStatistics commands:
    $BaseOU
    =
    "Customers"
    # Capture the date and time in a variable using the "Fri 11/01/2010 6:00 AM" format.
    $DateTime
    =
    Get-Date
    -Format
    "ddd MM/dd/yyyy h:mm tt"
    # Select a single domain controller to use for all the queries (to avoid mid AD replication inconsistencies)
    from the environment variable LOGONSERVER - this ensures the variable will always be dynamically updated.
    $DomainController
    = ($Env:LogonServer).Substring(2)
    # Set the loop count to 0 so it can be used to track the percentage of completion.
    $LoopCount
    = 0
    # Start tracking the time this script takes to run.
    $StopWatch1
    =
    New-Object
    System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch
    $StopWatch1.Start()
    # Get the mailbox info for all IHS customer mailboxes.the storage limit is Prohibit send or mailbox disabled
    Write-Host
    -ForegroundColor

    "Beginning mailbox gathering. In a short while a progress bar will appear."
    $GatheredMailboxes

    $Mailbox.Identity |
    Select StorageLimitStatus,TotalItemSize
    # Proceed only if the the mailbox statistics show the storage limit is Prohibit Send or Mailbox Disabled.
    # Write-Host "Stats for"$Mailbox.DisplayName"are Limit ="$MailboxStats.StorageLimitStatus"and Size ="$MailboxStats.TotalItemSize.Value.ToMB()"MB."
    # Calculate the amount of time the script took to run and write the information to the screen.
    $StopWatch2.Stop()
    $ElapsedTime
    =
    $StopWatch1.Elapsed
    Write-Host
    "he mailbox gathering took"
    $ElapsedTime.Hours
    "hours,"
    $ElapsedTime.Minutes
    "minutes, and"
    $ElapsedTime.Seconds

    $ElapsedTime

    $ElapsedTime.Hours

    "minutes, and"
    $ElapsedTime.Seconds
    `
    "seconds to run."
    Using the two stop clocks, I was able to see that the Get-Mailbox of all mailboxes took ~9 minutes. That isn’t lightning fast, but it isn’t unreasonable.
    The issue comes in where the Foreach loop with the Get-MailboxStatistics took ~53 minutes, and I am sure some of the mailbox data was cached on the servers from my various tests so it would probably take even longer with a cold
    run.
    I did some digging around and I really couldn’t find anything on how to speed up the Get-MailboxStatistics, and the only thing I found was this link:

    However I am not clear on how moving the Get-MailboxStatistics into the Get-Mailbox syntax (which is odd to me in general) would speed things up if I still have to have a foreach loop to process the data a little bit and add the
    users to a datatable. That discussion also made think the foreach loop itself is slowing things down but unclear as to how/why if that is true.
    Can someone help share some ideas on how to speed up this process? I think there are some other things I could try but I can’t think of them.
    Thank you in advance.

    I think it's impossible to speed up the Get-MailboxStatistics when it is being called for each and every mailbox individually.
    I read somewhere in other posts people were having better performance by calling the cmdlet against an entire database or server so I gave it a shot with this code:
    $DAGS = "EXCHDAG1"
    # Start tracking the time this script takes to run.
    $StopWatch = New-Object System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch
    $StopWatch.Start()
    $MailboxStatistics = New-Object System.Data.DataTable “MailboxStatistics”
    $MailboxStatistics.Columns.Add("TotalitemSize",[String]) | Out-Null
    $MailboxStatistics.Columns.Add("ItemCount",[String]) | Out-Null
    $MailboxStatistics.Columns.Add("LastLogonTime",[String]) | Out-Null
    $MailboxStatistics.Columns.Add("LastLogoffTime",[String]) | Out-Null
    $MailboxStatistics.Columns.Add("MailboxGUID",[String]) | Out-Null
    $MailboxStatistics.PrimaryKey = $MailboxStatistics.Columns["MailboxGUID"]
    ForEach ($DAGServer in (Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup $DAGS).Servers) {
    ForEach ($MailboxStats in (Get-MailboxStatistics -Server $DAGServer.Name | Where {$_.DisconnectDate -eq $Null})) {
    $NewMBXStatsDTRow = $MailboxStatistics.NewRow()
    $NewMBXStatsDTRow.TotalitemSize = $MailboxStats.TotalItemSize
    $NewMBXStatsDTRow.ItemCount = $MailboxStats.ItemCount
    $NewMBXStatsDTRow.LastLogonTime = $MailboxStats.LastLogonTime
    $NewMBXStatsDTRow.LastLogoffTime = $MailboxStats.LastLogoffTime
    $NewMBXStatsDTRow.MailboxGUID = $MailboxStats.MailboxGuid.ToString()
    $MailboxStatistics.Rows.Add($NewMBXStatsDTRow)
    $StopWatch.Stop()
    $ElapsedTime = $StopWatch.Elapsed
    Write-Host "The script took" $ElapsedTime.Hours "hours," $ElapsedTime.Minutes "minutes, and" $ElapsedTime.Seconds `
    "seconds to run."
    Here are the results in speed:
    The script took 0 hours, 3 minutes, and 13 seconds to run.
    So yeah... ~3 minutes versus ~1 hour, I would say that's an improvement.
    Now I will go back to my script and as I process each mailbox I will pull it's statistics information out of the DataTable using its GUID with:
    If ($MailboxStats = $MailboxStatistics.Rows.Find($Mailbox.MailboxGUID)) {
    # Insert mailbox statistics processing here using the $MailboxStats variable with "." extensions.
    } Else {
    # Mailbox statistics weren't found so go grab them individually as a backup mechanism for scenarios when a user's mailbox got moved out of the DAG to a non-DAG database for whatever reason.
    It's a little silly that I have to extract the information out of each DAG server and put it in an in-memory table just to speed this process up, but clearly there is overhead with the Get-MailboxStatistics cmdlet and grabbing more mailboxes at once helps
    negate this issue.
    I'm going to mark my own response as an answer because I don't think anyone else is going to come up with something better than what I put together.

    Diagnosis
    This is the position that is characterized by the following details:
    CC=1020;PT=V4I;SA=DEPBCCR;SE=1000013
    When I look the Security ID number in the old system, the Document is obsolete, but the migration transaction seek the FLOW information for this ID number and not return any information.
    Thanks for you help.

    Hi Lorenz,
    Thank you very much for the answer, My colleague, the one who posted the threat is not longer available, he went on hollydays.
    We did check TPM12 & TPM13  and the reports said:
    TPM12 : "no positions selected"
    TPM13: "No flows found"
    Just to double check that we have understood, which "Migration date"  are you reffering to?
    thank you very much
    best regards,

  • Custom field in the search criteria of contract management in SRM - POWL

    Hi,
    I have to add a custom field in the search criteria of the POWL query for Contract Management. I have done adjusting of the POWL by adding the custom field in the /SAPSRM/S_POWL_RESULT_CTR and /SAPSRM/S_SEARCH_RESULT_CTR. I have created entries in TREX and Field cat but still the field is not visible in the query.
    Please let me know how can i get the visibility of custom field on the POWL query for contract.

    Hi,
    Try to delete powl query cache using report POWL_D01.

  • How can I maximize my wifi speed using the Time Capsule?

    I do not feel that my wifi speed is as fast as it should be.  I have a 2 TB Time Capsule and connect wirelessly with an Apple MacBook Air, an iPhone 5s, an iPad 4, and iPad mini.  The online manual just tells how to do the initial setup but not how to tweak the settings.  Any idea how I can check my settings?

    There's little if anything to tweak. Your wireless speed will depend upon how many devices are using it at the same time since it is shared bandwidth. Wireless is also affected by what's between the device and the router like walls, ceilings, and other obstructions. If you have two devices connected at the same time one of which only supports 802.11a/b connections and one that supports and another that uses 802.11a/b/n (faster), then your network speed will drop down to the speed of the slowest device connected.
    Just use it. There's little you can do unless you have defective hardware.
