Speed of a shape style

This seems like it should be be easy but I have been racking my brain for awhile. I have created a straight line and change the shape style to one of the light streaks. The streak has it's own built in write on behavior. How can I adjust the speed of the streak? For this purpose I can't adjust the length. Adjusting the length of time, applying the drag behavior, and various options in the Shape tabs have left me scratching my head with no change in results. I'm looking at speed it up. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Thomas

Thanks Mark, that makes tons of sense now. I completely missed the key frame indicator in the gradient.
BTW, I'm using this on a mock up I created from your first Motion video. I'm using the clip from the Green Screen tutorial clip since it has the same qualities as our footage. I'm hoping to pick up second

  • Duration of bezier curve with shape style

I have drawn a bezier curve and put 'light streak' shape style to it. Everything is okay, except the speed of light streak animation is way too fast. How I can slow it down? The bezier curve is about 10 seconds on timeline, but the animation only lasts few seconds, and I haven't found a place where I can modify the duration or speed of the 'light streak' animation.

It's a little more difficult with Motion 5.  The global animation menu for Color Over Stroke doesn't work so you have to do each piece individually.
Click on the Stroke section of the Shape Tab.  Click on one of the opacity tags (the little rectangle boxes connected to the opacity bar (see image).  Below are the parameters affecting that selected tag.  They will no longer be grayed out.  Click on the animation menu for each parameter you plan to stretch and Show in Keyframe Editor.
Each parameter will be added to the keyframe editor, making its keyframes visible to you.  For opacity tags, you want to add the Opacity and Location parameters for EACH tag.  For color its the same, unless you also want to stretch the keyframes that change color in which case you'll have to add them as well.
I hope this makes sense.  It's a bit of a pain in Motion 5, but I think there's a bug related to why.  If you right-click the word Color Over Stroke (just below Stroke Color Mode), you will get an option to Show in Keyframe editor, but nothing happens.  I consider this a bug and I've filed it with the Feedback button.  I would suggest you do the same so hopefully it can get fixed.

  • Motion Shape Styles missing, but still in the Library?

    Hi All-
In Motion 5 I am no longer seeing any shape styles listed in the usual location under the "shape" tab, "style" tab, "Shape Style:" drop-down.  The only option I have is "Save Shape Style...".  Note that shape styles in existing projects still display, I just can't select new ones.  This appears to affect all my projects equally.  And this just appeared today -- previously everything's been working fine.
I can see in /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio/Motion/Library/Shape Styles/ that everything is still present in the filesystem, it's just that Motion seems to not be finding them.  Note also that I still have Motion 4 installed and shape styles do still appear there.
I tried trashing prefs, no dice.  Permissions in the Library are read-only for everyone, and as far as I know that is typical.
    Ideas?
    Thanks.
Edit:  This is a Motion *5* question, not FCPX -- there was no Motion 5 option in the post UI.

Thanks.  I'm aware of the utility, but temporarily swapping out Motion prefs is a simple affair of moving two files out of /Library/Application Support.  No dice.  Shape Styles were still gone with blanked out prefs.
However they did reappear eventually and then disappear again.  Quitting and re-launching the program a few times may or may not have been responsible for the disappearances/reappearances.  I should note that when this happens, the preset list of gradient fills also disappears.

  • How to make shape style move slower?

Hi. I've drawn a nice mask with dabs over an object, applied Light Streak 1 shape style to the mask so that the object draws on over time with a nice light stroke. But it happens too quickly. I would like the effect to happen slower, or possibly slow down and hold the light effect at a certain point. Can't quite figure out how to do this. Please help. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the assistance. Got things to work better, and even tried using the pen tool to create the line that draws around the object, but couldn't seem to get it 100% right. Using the mask tool and doing a few cheats to get the duration longer. The link provided was a great help, but alas, everything tried there didn't work 100% either. Grabbing keyframes works for making shorter durations, but making the motion longer... had some troubles. Ah well, it's solved for now!

  • Applying shape styles to multiple shapes or paint strokes...

Is it possible to apply a shape style (such as "Hard Chalk") so multiple shapes or strokes at once?
Dragging and dropping onto one line at a time until the drawing is completely made up of chalk strokes is quite tedious...
Alternatively, perhaps there is a way to combine paint strokes...grouping is OK, but you can't drop a shape style onto a group...so it doesn't help here.
    any thoughts?

    Hi Daniel,
If you need to use the master page for multiple site collections, then you’d better to choose the option 2 or options 3, as you do not need to make copies of the CSS or JS files and re-upload them to each site collection.
And per my knowledge, option 3 is better. Because the CSS or JS files are stored at the local system of SharePoint server in option 3, it is faster than referring a file which is stored in database in option 2.
Generally, it depends based on your situation as you don’t like option 3 when the CSS or JS files are not accessible in SPD.
    Thanks,
    Victoria

  • Shape style palette gone

something happened - maybe i hit some obscure keyboard shortcut, but the palette for shape styles and colour has disappeared from the toolbar at the top of my screen and i don't know how to get it back.
where drawing shapes used to create a new layer and an editable shape it now creates a black outline that can't be selected or editied in any way on whichever layer is active.
this is a massive problem. how can i make the shape tool behave like it's supposed to again?
    thanks.
    PS CS5 iMac OS Mavericks

It may be that in the tool options bar you have the shape tool set to draw paths instead of shape layers
(set it to shape layers before drawaing out a shape)

  • Motion Path with Shape Style

I have a camera following a path. I copyed the same path and add a shape style, but when i add the Shape Style the shape disappears but only goes around a turn. When its just a line it works find.
    Greg

It's not disappearing around the turn for me.
You could try creating a new blank project that has the same settings, then with both projects open, rearrange the windows and drag all your groups from the current project into the new one to see if that helps.
You could also try a shorter line, it may be a graphics card limit issue.

  • Motion 5 shape styles make render extremely slow?

Hi guys, I just wanted to ask about your experience with shape styles in Motion 5.
I'm currently working on a blue screen animation type video. I'm encountering extremely long render times for comparatively short videos and simple animations. When I isolated all the individual elements in my video to see which one is causing these render times, it came down to a bunch of lines which have shape styles applied to it.
The design is basically a relatively simple spider web, made up of 9 individual lines. I applied the "chalk easy" shape style to each of these lines and used a simple animation using "last point offset", just to have the lines come on 0-100%, nothing fancy.
When I remove the shape styles, rendering takes less than 30 seconds, with the shape styles applied it takes 10 minutes or longer.
What I wonder is, do you guys use shape styles? Have you experienced issues like this? Is there a viable alternative to shape styles?
I rarely use them, but it seemed like a good idea here because we're going for a bit of a drawn look, therefore I wanted the lines to look a little irregular without too much effort.
    Cheers

Shape styles fall into the category of replicator/emitter. You are increasing the complexity of the artwork significantly and it will slow down Motion both in playback and rendering (depends on the style and complexity of the style.)

  • In PS CS6 While I'm adjusting the shape style, the path outline always appears??

It does trouble me especially during setting "drop shadow", "inner glow" and "stroke". In previous version, if this problem came up, I can solve it by  clicking another layer and then double-clicking the original layer to pop up the style setting. But now it doesn't work!!! Help...

You can press the keyboard short A (path selection tool) and hit the escape key twice.
    or
If your already in the layer styles dialog you can press Ctrl (cmd)+Shift+ H (View>Show>Target Path)
Still a pain compared to previous versions.

  • Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?

    Hello,
I have a collegue that is using Cp 5 to record software simulations which then need to be brought into Cp6. The problem is that our standards (for software simulations) employ Smart Shape call outs (not the Cp 5.5 and earlier text captions).
Is it possible to convert these text captions into our themed Smart Shapes either automatically inside Captivate 6 or by modifying the content within the CPTx file?
    Thank you,
    Shawn

    Hello Lilybiri,
As always you are awesome! :-)
    >I don't believe an automatic switch will be possible, because smart shapes are totally different objects.
I understand because there are a huge variety of shapes in either format. But I suspect that it should be easy to convert a text caption from any style to one specified smart shape style.
Actually, I am asking before the simulations get started. So nothing has been done yet. I am unsure what you are suggesting I should do in the preferences under Cp 5.5. Are you suggesting that there is a way to convert 'some format' of text callouts, in a Cp5.5 demonstration simulation, to Smart Shapes in Cp6?
    >but since you already have created the simulations, it has to be done manually. Hoping for you that
    >someone has a bright idea, but I do not see one immediately.
For anyone else in this situation, it would be handy to have a solution (rather than painstakingly convert each manually).
I am wondering if this might be a relatively easy search/replace within one of the xml files within the CPTx file. I'm going to look at this tonight.
    Thanks for your assist.

  • How to make ROUNDED rectangle default style cp8?

    Hi,
I want my smart shape style to be rounded rectangle, not squared. I have set up my object styles with color and all that good stuff, but there is no way I can see to make it the rounded shape instead of the squared off shape.  I also tried to change one on the properties panel thinking I could "apply to all" but that option is not available.  I am trying to use smart shapes as my captions in recording and it sure would be nice not to have to touch every single one and change it to rounded - defeats the purpose of styles, yes?
Using CP8, latest version (I checked and there are no updates available), on a windows machine, 64 bit.
    Thanks!!!
    Kelly

Rick, that option has effect on the captions inserted while creating a software simulation.
@LMS_90 About which shapes as Text container are you talking? Object styles for Shapes do not include the 'form' of the shape. And at this moment, you cannot set such a form as being included in the default style, with the one exception that Rick points out: added text during a simulation capture.
Even for Success/Failure/Hint shapes you cannot define that it always has to be a rounded rectangle. For Question slides, you can set them up in the master slides, and if you use always master slides with placeholders it is also possible. Quite a lot of the default themes have rounded rectangle shapes as text container for Title and Subtitle.
Also in the Properties the 'form' is not part of the style: if you apply the default Shape Style that includes Stroke, Fill, Character properties, Margins, Shadow...but not the shape itself. That is the reason why 'Apply to all' cannot be used for the shape form.
This is probably not the answer you expected, I try to change as much as possible in the Master slide.

  • Issue with adding custom speed to a behavior

I am trying to add a custom speed to a write on behavior. The shape I am trying to write on works fine when I have it at any other speed setting but when I set it to custom (which I need to allow it to both write on and write off at the end) the shape disappears. Despite playing with the custom speed percentage, the shape never comes back. Any ideas?

Ok. I opened your project in my Motion 4 and after it updated it, I got the custom behavior to work fine. However, I had a thought so I decided to open it on my machine that's using Motion 3. There I noticed the problem you're having. I was unable to get the shape write on behavior to work either.
I believe the problem to be with your project. It appears slightly corrupt. Here's something you might try. Create a new project. Redraw your circle shape. Apply the write on behavior and keyframe it as I mentioned before. Then copy and paste it into your current sequence to replace the circle you have in there.
If that doesn't work, I'd rebuild your project. Instead of using all those strokes, just make one X and one O and one line. Then use clones for all the others. That should simplify the project quite a bit.

  • Copy / Paste Styles between objects?

Can you copy/paste styles between different objects in Motion 5?
I know I can save a Style as a name and then select it from the style list. It would be great to just copy a style and then select another object and paste. Can you do this?
    Thanks!
    Scot

Motion lets you drag and drop parameters on different things. If the action is "not allowed" you won't be able to do it. That said, if you have a rectangle located somewhere on the screen and you want to line up text over the rectangle, just drag the Position parameter of the rectangle onto the text layer in the layers list.
For "like" objects, for instance: shapes, you can drag the Outline and Fill panels (the entire panel!) onto another shape and all of the contained parameters will be copied over. So, if you have a red outlined (say 10 px wide), blue filled rectangle, and you want the same properties on a circle, just drag those panes (click on "Fill" And "Outline") onto the circle.
If all you want to do is save styles of shapes, or text, that you've created, then for shapes, on the Style inspector theres a Shape Style dropdown at the top of the parameters list. Click that and Save Shape Style. Whatever your current settings are, they can be saved and reselected from that menu.  For text, at the top of the Style inspector, you'll generally see Normal (in whatever that layers font is.) Click on that bar and select Save All Basic + Style Attributes.

    Application is Pages 2.0.2
    Message was edited by: Spprrw

    Welcome to the Apple forums
By default, the Pages developers chose to use 12 point after paragraph spacing which will make it appear as a double space between paragraphs. You need to create your own default template. Set up your document with the line spacing, margins, headers, etc. as you'd like. Redefine all of the paragraph & character styles to have your desired font.
While you're at it, you might want to set default styles for all objects, text boxes, tables, paragraph styles, etc. Start with a blank document & insert an object. Change the color, wrap, etc. to your choosing & then go to Format > Advanced > Define Default Shape Style then delete the object. Repeat with an image/photo, a text box & a table.
Now, save this as a template then, in Pages > Preferences, select this template as the default for new documents. All of your new documents will have these settings for inserted objects, images & tables. Unfortunately, the settings won't apply to any other templates or "foreign" documents you open with Pages.
