Speed up album art generation in coverflow...

Is there any way to speed up album art generation when you use coverflow on an ipod classic?... it seems to take forever on mine and i don't know if it is on everyone else's or just mine.

No. It's just a function of how quickly the iPod can read the info from the hard drive and how much can be stored in the cache. My experience has been if you scroll quickly, once you get 20 or 30 albums down, it reverts to place-holders until you stop and let it "catch up". Oh, and if you are listening to music while scrolling through coverflow, it's even slower (since the iPod is caching music as well).

  • ITunes 7.1 affecting fan speed in album art screen saver?

After installing the update I immediately started noticing my fan gradually increasing speed until it is extremely fast/loud, whenever the album art screen saver comes on. I've since changed my saver to a photo album saver since I can't take the noise. (And I'm fearful of the box taking flight.) Has anyone else experienced this? (Quad 2.5 G5 PowerMac)
    Quad 2.5 G5 PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Same problem that I am having. I enjoyed the album art screen saver. Since I updated to v7 the screen saver doesnt seem to work correctly. Spent the first day of release getting most of my albums (shockingly more then I thought). Enabled the screen saver, but only got 4 albums to show up, no others. Testing it more, I removed the art for the albums that showed up, which got me to 1 album, removed and then got the error that my iTunes Library had no albums with artwork. Weird.. Removed my library, reloaded, and ALL the artwork is gone. Tried going a few albums at a time manually and it shows in iTunes, the new Album Art Dir updates with new stuff. but nothing for the screen saver. Good idea in principle, kinda bad in excuction is my thoughts right now. Hope for a fix soon.

  • Wrong Album Art 4 Certin Albums

When going thur the iPod on my iPhone I c a few albums with different album art(both thur coverflow & albums). But this does not happen on my laptop.Does anybody else have this problem? If anybody can help or give me an idea as to why this happens that would be a great help. Thanks a mill!

I was having the same trouble with album artwork being displayed on the wrong albums or not showing up at all even though it is correct and in place in iTunes. What i did to solve it, although a bit of a hassle, was to delete all of my music from my iPhone and sync it all back in groups of 60-90 songs at a time after the 1.1.3 update and now everything looks and works great. Hope this helps...

  • Album art moved to end of cover flow for no apparent reason....

This happens on my 80gb iPod only. Not on iTunes. iTunes shows all the album art in the coverflow in alphabetical order like its suppose to be. Albums such as: Deftones - "self titled", The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute, Kanye West - Graduation, Placebo - Meds, Taking Back Sunday - Where You Want To Be. Among around 15 others.
All album info seem to match up, but for some reason, they are all located at the end of the coverflow on my iPod not in line with the other albums from the same artists.
Anybody know why this happens and how to fix this annoying little thing?
    thanks,

iTunes gets those tags from the Gracenote database. Whoever entered the info, set them as compilations.
Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?

  • Album Art Resizing Itself In Coverflow

The majority of my album art is 600x600, but some is rectangular (e.g., 600 wide x 540 tall). This afternoon, I noticed that some, but not all, of this rectangular artwork is being resized when iTunes is in coverflow view: the height of some of the album covers that appear in coverflow are being stretched so that they appear as square rather than rectangular.
The same art is also distorted when I view art in the artwork column and in grid view.
However, the proportions of the affected artwork is correct when viewed with
    • iTunes' artwork viewer (in the lower lefthand corner)
    • on my second generation iPod nano
    • on my iPhone 3G's iPod app (in coverflow and otherwise)
    • in the Remote app
    • and, if I open one of the album covers and view it in its own window, it appears in the correct dimensions.
The artwork also looks correct in the summary tab and the artwork tab when I "Get Info." If I copy one of the affected album covers and open it with Preview, its dimensions will be correct.
I can discern no pattern as to which images are being resized. Some art images I have scanned myself and some I have downloaded.
I have no idea what might have triggered this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is an addendum to my original post, including a cumbersome "fix," and a working hypothesis as to the root of the problem.
(In my original post, I had neglected to update my signature to note that my current OS is 10.6.4.)
Last night, I extracted the artwork of the nonstandard covers (I'll call "standard" artwork that which is 600x600, as well as other art of that 1:1 ratio).
Assuming that the width of all the nonstandard artwork was 600 pixels, the affected artwork was that which was 540 high and higher. Nonstandard artwork that still appears normally is 539 and shorter. The 600/540+ (bad) vs. 600/539- (good) appears to be a ratio that affects artwork of smaller sizes as well. For example, a file that was 467 pixels in width that was "too high" (420) would also be affected. (I have some artwork that is smaller than 600 pixels, but none is larger, so while I assume larger images will be affected, I don't know for certain.)
When I extracted a 600x540 file and resized (or rescaled) it to 600x539 and then embedded the new art, coverflow displayed the artwork correctly. I have done this for all the affected artwork and this has "fixed" the problem.
(I've read that a number of people are currently having problems adding artwork so, for the record, I copy an image open in Preview and, then, in iTunes, I "get info" for the files to which I want to add artwork and then paste the artwork into the artwork box seen in the "Multiple Item Information" window.)
However, this only fixed the problem for view in coverflow. It did not fix the grid view. Those files were still being stretched until I "jiggled" the size of album covers in grid view. I slid the sizing bar back and forth, to make the albums first larger and then smaller, and then I eased the size back to its original position (in my case, as large as the grid view will render four albums in one row before they become three to a row). So, no kidding, once I shook iTunes, grid view worked again.
Armed with this information, I sat down with a similar system (my wife's), another 13" Macbook running 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2.1, and I attempted to replicate the problem; her iTunes library is unique but contains some of the same music files with the same artwork that had appeared distorted on my system. Two careful examinations of the music library had not shown any distortion to this system's extant artwork but, when I added nonstandard artwork of the problematic ratio (and files that had said artwork) I saw the same problem on my wife's computer that I seen on mine.
I can offer the following additional information:
12 May 2010 is the last known date on which I embedded a file with "problematic" artwork that displayed said artwork properly in coverflow.
On 26 July, I extracted a nonstandard artwork image, touched it up, and embedded that "airbrushed" art into the music files. This is the album cover that I first noticed to be stretched. However, while I noticed it yesterday afternoon, I do not recall noticing it on the morning of the 26th, when the new artwork was added. (And this does not necessarily mean anything; I may have been inattentive.)
While wrangling with that album cover yeterday and trying to get it to display properly, I did not notice a problem with any other album cover (but I did not look methodically). After wrestling with that album and failing, I quit iTunes, tossed the album art cache in the trash, and rebuilt. It was at that point at which I noticed distorted artwork en masse.
I am open to other ideas, but my working hypothesis is that, at some point in time, within the last week or the past two months, iTunes (by which I mean the most current version of iTunes on a Macbook running the most current version of Snow Leopard) has become incapable of caching these nonstandard images. The extant thumbnails of the "problem covers" were fine, but once I tossed them into the trash and iTunes needed to reconstruct them, mayhem ensued.
Even though I have hit upon a workaround for our computers and will avoid adding problematic art to our iTunes libraries, I'd still be curious to know what's behind the problem and if there is an easier fix than the one I found, which is not a fix inasmuch as it's the "don't move your arm like that" when your arm hurts solution.
For what it's worth and thanks in advance,
    N.

  • Different album art in coverflow and song played

Sometimes the album art in coverflow differs from the one in the lower left corner. Why is that and can I sync them, so they have the same cover?

    Hi.
I had the same problem. The good news is that you can fix it. The bad news is that it may take you quite a bit of time.
The problem is that the metadata is inconsistent in some of your albums. Take a look at the metadata for the albums you are having problems with and make sure that all the tags are consistent.
For example, I had one song on a Beatles album that for some reason had a different year than the other songs on that album. This caused everything on that album to picking the artwork from a Pat Benatar album I had.
    Here's what you do.
    (1) List all the albums with messed up artwork and the albums that the wrong artwork is from.
    (2) In iTunes, check all the songs on each album to make sure that the metadata is consistent.
    (3) Erase the music from the iPod Touch (sync to a blank playlist).
    (4) Resync the music to the iPod Touch.
If you find further problems, then just repeat this process. It took me three goes to fix everything on my 16 gig touch.

  • Coverflow shows wrong album art

I have a problem with coverflow in iTunes. Some of the album art that is shown during a song is from the wrong album e.g. when I am playing "Greatest Hits" by Stevie Ray Vaughn, it displays the cover of "Greatest Hits" by ZZ Top. I have looked at the art info on each of the tracks, and they are correct. Ideas???

I am having the same problem. Help...anyone??

  • Album art "blacked out" in coverflow

I am seeing some strange behavior from Coverflow on my new iPhone. Occasionally an albums artwork will show up as all black. Additionally, sometimes I will be able to see the cover in the cover "lineup" if i scroll a few albums over, but once i get to the cover in question, it disappears. Conversely I have seen this happen where the "lineup" cover isn't visible, but once I get to the album the artwork appears.
i always add my album art one of these two ways.
    1) Include it in the ID3 tag by using Tag & Rename software.
    2) Open the Info while browsing my iPhone in iTunes and attach it.
I know people have had problems with artwork by having iTunes find it or by adding it via the preview window. I am not doing that in this case. Here is my phone info.
    iPhone: 3G 16gb
    iPhone Software: 2.1
    Sync: Manual
    OS: Windows

I'm having the exact same issue with my 16gb iPhone unfortunatley I got the iPhone only a few days ago and updated to 2.1 before I put music/album art on there so I can't tell if it's happening just for 2.1 or firmware before this.
I also own an ipod touch 8gb which I am not willing to try updating album art to in case the same thing happens, but all art on there is working ok. but I do know same albums and cover art have been use for both devices.
In the few days I have been searching for an answer, no one has been able to give an answer to what's happening but I seriously don't think it's an issues with my pc/music/album art if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.
My setup is exactly the same as spicymeat's:
    iPhone: 3G 16gb
    iPhone Software: 2.1
    Sync: Manual
    OS: Windows XP

  • Diagonal lines on coverflow album art

I recently upgraded my laptop to iTunes to 7.0 and everything is fine except that when using the "coverflow" to go through my library, every piece of album art (and the generic music note for when there is no artwork) has a very thin diagonal line through it. It also occurs when I'm looking through movies on the iTunes store. I downloaded it on my desktop and did not have this problem. Is there a way to fix? I tried to re-install the update, but it didn't fix the problem. Thanks.

Nope. Coverflow simulates flipping through your album collection, so there should only be one piece of artwork per unique album in Coverflow. If you're seeing ten pieces of artwork, iTunes thinks "Tom's Album" is actually ten albums for some reason — perhaps the tags don't quite match?
If you move those 700 songs into a playlist, and restore their original album names, iTunes will see them as different albums, and you'll be able to see all the cover art in Cover Flow.

  • Coverflow, album art, & videos

When in coverflow, the album art doesn't appear for a specific album instead it shows a video preview.

Not sure if this will be useful to you. But when I add tracks off of CD and I want to add the artwork, I do the following.
When Itunes has loaded up and once you have made sure the main view is showing Cover Flow:
In the MUSIC LIBRARY (left handside of the Itunes window). Left click once the first song for the particular album in question, next right click it, choose from the menu GET INFO, on the window that has appeared click the ARTWORK tab, next click the ADD tab and locate the picture you have saved on the PC for that particular album (you need to have downloaded this already from a covers website or scanned it and saved it).
Once you have added it and it appears in the window that I have mentioned above, you will then need to right click on the picture and choose copy.
Next you will need to left click (ONCE) the second track of the album in question, and then hold the SHIFT key and left click (ONCE) the last track of that album. You should now have the second track and all the other tracks for that album highlighted. Next we need to right click again on the highlighted selection and choose GET INFO. On the window that appears you need to make sure that you are on the INFO tab, you will see a square with the word ARTWORK above it, you need to now right click in the square and choose paste, you should see the picture appear in the square for that album, also ensure that the little box to the left of the ARTWORK box becomes ticked once you have pasted the picture, if it doesn't you will need to tick this box.
After you have done all of the above and have connected the iPhone and synced to apply the changes you have made, you need to then check (on the iPhone) to see if the cover appears correctly for all the tracks for that particular album for which you have made the changes to.

  • Glitchy Album Art-Maybe Only in Coverflow?

When I updated iTunes to 7.3.2 I started having problems with album art.
My 3 Death Cab cds have 7 spots in coverflow (223) and I don't know why. In my iPod it comes up as one album or one artist, and I shift-clicked the different albums to insure that the information was the same on all the songs (short of the title, of course). However, this is the only band that I've had this problem with.
I don't know what else I can do at this point, any suggestions?

  • ITunes 9.2 blurry album art in Coverflow

I've noticed that performance when using both Coverflow and grid view has improved, however this is at the expense of blurry album art.
Normally art downloaded from the iTunes store is high quality. When you are in cover-flow it is difficult to discern the quality, however go to full screen and you can clearly see the detail in the artwork. However now, when going full screen in cover-flow, all the album artwork has a blurry look.
To compare how full screen album art should look, view the "album art viewer" in the lower left hand corner of iTunes. Click the artwork and it will display at it's original size, compare this image to the artworked viewed in Coverflow Full-Screen. There is a noticible difference in sharpness.
Normally this "blurry effect" only occurs for artwork applied manually via drag and drop and viewed full screen in coverflow mode. It has now been applied to all artwork.
What is the point of high quality album art if it can't be viewed as originally intended? Performance increases are nice, but I preferred the previous coverflow experience even at the expense of a little performance.

I haven't had this issue. I'd download a program such as Media Monkey to see what the resolution of artwork is. Generally an image that is 600X600 will be of excellent quality in iTunes. Other than that, it could be a rare bug.
Have you tried removing the artwork from one song/audiobook and right clicking on it and choose "Get album artwork" to see if that resolves the issue?

  • #g: how do you display coverflow/album art ?

    Hi,
I was just wondering how and if Album art is displayed on the 3G?
I downloaded the same tunes that display album art on my Nano... but they don't seem to display on the 3G. Do I have to turn this feature on?
When playing tunes on the iPhone what happens when a call is made or received?
    Thanks

Did you turn your iPhone sideways? If so, what does it display?
If a call comes in the music fades out and you have a display that allows you to answer or reject the call.
