Speed Up effect

Can somebody point me to a tutorial on how to quickly speed up an edit so it looks like a slapstick movie. Something like this video maybe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o074_shZiog
Thanks

This can be tricky, but actually easy:
Lay down a track of the song at 50% speed, have your talent lipsync it at the slow speed. Shoot it. Speed it up in editorial Modify>speed.

  • Tape speed change effect

Is there a way, in GB8, I can get the effect of changing tape speed - ie frequency halving / doubling, possibly coupled with time duration being halved / doubled?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

To be honest I thought iMovie '08 was lame when it came out and I didn't spend more than a half-hour deciding it wasn't worth my time. It may work in a similar fashion, but I can't be sure. In the previous iMovie you would drag your song into one of the audio tracks. Then export the project as a video (video settings could be minimal but keep audio settings high.) Then delete the audio track and drag in the movie you just exported. Then go to Video FX and choose to slow-down or speed-up the file and the audio would speed up/down and effect pitch like the pitch control on a reel-to-reel deck. I also had another cheap audio program that functioned in that way, but I can't remember the name now. It might be easier to do a google search for some shareware/freeware program to accomplish the task if iMovie '08 proves too difficult. I just tested the process in iMovie '06 and it took about 3 minutes to get to the point of playing with the tempo slider.

  • Constant speed motion effect

I am trying to put a 200% motion effect on a clip and I get a message that says A CONFLICT OCCURED DURING A TRIM OPERATION Anyone know why I might be getting this message?
    Thanks
    black book 13   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2GHz 1GB

The usual explanation is your expanded clip interferes with other media in your timeline.
usual solutions: work in an isolated sequence and nest it back into your main sequence or work on your time alteration at the end of your sequence and then copy and paste.
You can search for the error message here on the forum and you will plenty of threads.

  • Speed Racer Effect...

I was wondering how to create that animation look you see in old speed racer cartoons (and in the new movie trailer) of colorful lines flying by in the background with a foreground image. I'm sure that a replicator is needed or perhaps a particle emitter will work, but I thought I'd ask before I start muddling through this myself.
    Andy

Ok, so I have something that kinda works. I created a line using the shape tool and turned it into an emitter. After tweaking the controls, I have it looking more or less what I was going for, lines flying from one side of the screen to the other.
Now I have a different issue. The project is 720p30 DVCProHD. When I try to render I get the infamous, "This object is too large to render, and will be cropped. The maximum size is 4096x4096". It's talking about my emitter. I've had this issue in the past and the way 'round it was to check the "fixed resolution" box on the layer and reposition if necessary. Well, I've selected the "fixed resolution" box on EVERY layer I have, and it STILL won't render out the emitter.
Is there something else I'm doing wrong?

  • I want to create a power rangers spd morph effect

Hello i'm trying to create the SPD power rangers morph sequence and i want to create it from scratch as i want to put my custom made power rangers suit for my short film in the morphing sequence, does anyone know any tutorials or can any one tell me how to do this
    thank you in advance

Layers... roto, keying, distort, blur, blend modes.
I have no idea what the speed morph effect is but if I had footage of me in a suit and I wanted me to do something I'd have to separate me from the background (layers, roto, keying) then distort (many plug-ins do this) blur, and add some blend modes to make me morph...
As Todd said, without an understanding of the how After Effects works, you haven't got a chance unless you find a specific tutorial for this effect that gives you a precise step by step. Here's another link to a little different approach to the Basic Workflow.

  • Need help with speed remapping

So here is my question. (check pic below to see timeline)
I'm working on a timeline and I have a clip somewhere in the middle of this timeline. Now I've put the two markers which close off the area of the clip that I want in slow-motion. And then I drag the rubberband now to 50%. This causes the clip to obviously become longer.
But the problem is that it doesn't push the clip that comes afterwards, it just sort of submerges and I lose a part of the clip that I put into slow-mo.
    http://gyazo.com/0cce5ab07e22897f21a25e3308a9cbb5.png Here's a picture of my timeline.
So my question is how can I make it so that the clip after is pushed forward automatically?
I know how to fix this problem with some dragging and pulling, but I want to become as efficient as I can and don't get into any bad habits.
    Thanks!

If all you want to do is simply slow down or speed up a clip, use the Speed/Duration settings--it's probably the simplest way to induce a speed change. This is a constant speed change, which you can also do with Time Remapping--which is what I think you've been doing.
The benefit of Time Remapping is that it allows for variable speed changes within a single instance of a clip. Say for example you want your clip to start at 100% speed, slow down immediately to 25%, and then speed up immediately to 200%. You can do this with Speed/Duration, simply by razoring the clip at the specific points where you want the speed change to occur, and then altering the Speed/Duration setting for that instance of the clip. With Time Remapping, not only can you do this without having to chop up the clip, but you can also create "ramps" from one speed to another--hence the variable speed aspect. You can even freeze a clip or reverse it, all without editing the clip into smaller pieces. This can result in a much smoother effect, but it might not always be what you're after. Time Remapping does have a bit of a learning curve, but it really is the more powerful option of the two. You just have to decide which is better for your purposes.
An additional benefit, and I might be wrong on this, but I believe that using the Time Remapping function results in (theoretically) a higher quality speed change effect due to a different algorithm or some-such. It uses some different techniques to generate the interpolated frames created in a speed change, that should look smoother than if they were done with the Speed/Duration command.
    Hope the helps a bit.

  • Converting for Speed Adjustment Degrades Video Quality

In order to adjust the speed of a clip, iMovie must first convert the clip. Allowing iMovie to make this conversion visibly (and permanently!) degrades the quality of the video for that clip. Does anyone have a work-around to allow the speed adjustment and keep the original video quality?
(Original video files are 1280x720 and shot with a Panasonic LX3.)

I have Visual Hub and MPEG Streamclip - can I use one of these to convert my original .mov files to whatever iMovie is looking for in order to do the speed adjustments without having the video degraded?
Yes but you want to use the application providing the best frame rate conversion strategy. Any re-compression has the potential to degrade your video content. As to the "main" thing iMovie is looking for -- that would be the frame rate. Before iMovie can apply a speed change effect -- the frame rate must be standardized in terms of the reference clock used by QT. All other settings are arbitrary as long as they are compatible with iMovie '09.
What "recipe" should I use when converting the video?
That would depend on the target compression format you plan to use since some setting are "fixed" for some formats while others are user adjustable. Recommend you compare the newly converted clip with the original to see what changes were actually made so you can better decide which settings you may want to change and which you want to keep the same as the original if possible. As I said before, if you shoot the footage at the editing standard frame rate, no conversion would be required. Since changes in frame rate of cause "skips" or "halts" to smooth playback, I normally don't recommend changing the frame rate if it can be avoided.

  • Speed Changes  / Motion import

I have a particular shot -- I razor bladed in into 7 sections. Most are set to speed 100%, but some are set to 50%, 125%, etc. On two of the slices, I also used the "Curve from beginning" thing in the new speed change window (FCP v7)
OK now -- How do I import this sequence into Motion? I want to replace all the speed change effects in FCP with Optical Flow.
Can this process be streamlined or is is manual? IS there are way to maintain the curves in Motion?
    Thanks
    Steve

Even if I try to do the speed change natively in Motion, it still yields the same result in terms of what part of the source footage it's looking at.
In this case, if I wanted to do use the optical flow option, I would do it in Shake because the source footage is an hour long, and Motion has to analyze the ENTIRE source file rather than just the part that's being referenced. (Annoying) Shake does only the part you are using.

    Hello..

There is nothing wrong, you are looking real clock speed, while the effective clock speed is double.

Don't do such experiment you can permanently damage the VGA.
1150MHz real memory clock speed = 2300 effective clock speed

  • Confusing speed reports

Hi folks, I'm new here and a noob to OCing.  I'll try to keep it short and to the point.  Please hang with me.  Bottom line is I'm getting different CPU speeds reported by different utilities.
    First off:
Mobo - MSI P6N SLI Platinum
    BIOS - v1.4
    CPU - E6750
    MEM - 2 x 1G Kingston Hyper PC2 6400 CL4 240
OS - Win XP home ed
    Vid - MSI Nvidia 8800GT 512 OC
    Sound - SB Ex-Fi gaming
    EIST DISABLED
    DOT  DISABLED
I'm trying to raise my FSB and CPU speed.  I've read a lot on this and other forums to try to get educated on the OC process.  But I haven read anything that matches exactly what I'm seeing.  First thing to do is raise the FSB right?  Several utilities show my stock FSB to be 333Mhz but the BIOS shows:
    CPU 2667
    FSB 1333 - huh?
    MEM 800
    MULT 8
There's no 333MHz in the BIOS to be tweaked directly.  I deduce there is a 4x multiplier involved and tweak the only "FSB" adjustment available to 1500Mhz to give me a hoped for FSB result of 375MHz and a CPU speed of 3GHZ (8x375).  I'm thinking I got that right and my 3DMark06 score went up proportionaly.  But several utilities are reporting different and confusing speeds.
The BIOS shows   CPU 3GHz  FSB 1500MHz
3Dmark06 detects CPU 3GHz  FSB not shown
others show      CPU 3GHz  FSB 333Mhz (I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that)
Still wanting some confirmation that I really have a 375MHz FSB I decided to pause the info screen that blinks quickly when going into BIOS Setup.  It reports "speed 377MHz x 8 = 3016MHz".  That's good, I got the ~375 FSB I was trying for. But here's the kicker, below that it says:
"A 333MHz system processor is installed.  This processor is not supported on this system board and will run at reduced processor clock speed.  System performance will be impacted."
I decide that can't be right because it reports on the same screen "speed 377MHz x 8 = 3016MHz".  Scratching my head I download and run CPU-Z and PC Wizard 2008. And they both show a CPU speed of 2250MHz!!  The problem seems to be the multiplier.  CPU-Z shows a multiplier of 6.  But every now and then flashes an 8 and show 3000MHz.
    What's goin on?

How do I fix Speedstep and C1E issue?
This is not an issue. Speedstep (EIST) and C1E are power saving features of your processor.  If they are enabled, multiplier and VCore are supposed to be reduced when the system is IDLE.  All values should go back to default as soon as you put some load on your processor (try Prime95).
--> To turn off Speedstep (EIST): Set your Windows Power Profile to "Always On", "Desktop" or "High Performance" and/or disable EIST/Speedstep in BIOS.
--> To turn off C1E Support: the BIOS Option is hidden, go to the BIOS section labeled "CPU Features" and press F4....the Option should be visible after that:
    Quote
So with your CPU FSB set at 375MHz the memory is running at 1500MHz
This is not correct.  If system clock mode is set to "Manual" in BIOS, FSB clock speed and memory clock speed are not linked.  Both values can be modified independently. The BIOS shows effective values for both settings.  If memory clock speed is set to 800 MHz it already means DDR2-800 (real clock speed is always 1/2 of the effective settings (so in this case 400 MHz).
    Quote
Several utilities show my stock FSB to be 333Mhz but the BIOS shows:
1333 MHz is the effective value.  The true or real value for clock speed is always 1/4 of the effective rating.  CPU clock speed is based on real clock speed (not effective clock speed).

  • HT200234 Speed up user log in to Mac Server Pro

I have a mac server pro and 31 imacs. When several users log in at the same time, it some take up to 3 minutes to logi n to the server. How can I speed up user login time?

It sounds like your using network home directories. With this setup all the users files are stored on the server, this means when they login a lot of files have to be sent over the network, it is particularly bad if your using Apple Mail which then has to open and check many email messages - each of which is another file to be transferred.
Therefore there are two aspects that affect speed, the first is the network connection speed, you want your server to be on at least a 1Gbps Ethernet connection, if you then have say three computers using it at the same time, and these computers also have 1Gbps Ethernet connections they would actually get an affective 333Mbps speed i.e. a third each. If your server only has a 100Mbps connection then the users would get a third of that i.e. 33Mbps. It is possible to in theory join together multiple 1Gbps links to make a 2 or 4 or even 8Gbps connection this requires a suitable network switch that supports 802.3ad aka. LACP.
As you can probably already see, if you had ten computers connecting to the server at the same time then the speed each effectively sees is even slower.
The other speed constraint is typically the storage being used by the server, if this is hard disks then using a high-end RAID system or even SSD flash memory storage also in a high-end RAID solution would speed things up. In the PC world it is common these days to have one very highly specified server with equally highly specified (and expensive) storage, in the Mac world were we have no 'real' servers any more people have been trying to get away with what is effectively an ordinary desktop computer and as you are finding it is not really up to the job.
Note: With a high-end RAID system you would also need to use an interface other than USB or FireWire both of which in such situations are actually considered 'slow'. We are talking here about FDDI at 8 or even 16Gbps compared to FireWire at 800Mbps.
Sadly there is also some truth to the fact that OS X is far more greedy for network bandwidth than Windows, not only will you see the problem you have, but it is even worse even for a single user when they remotely try and access a file server
The somewhat good news is that once the users are logged in and the initial traffic has subsided then things do generally settle down and feel ok, the problem is the initial hit as everyone starts up, this has been problem in particular for schools with classrooms of computers all starting at the same time.

  • Memory frequency in overclocking?

I hope someone is willing to help me out as I am a complete beginner and very much out of my depth... having said that...
I'm looking to set up a very modest stable overclock... with next to no idea of what i'm doing.
    I have an E4400 ms-7255 with 2 x 1gb RAM which runs at 333Mhz according to cpuz.
I haven't been able to find anything about 333Mhz RAM (if that IS indeed what i have - since i read it usually runs below its specs)
How does RAM frequency affect overclocking? Is it still possible/worthwhile or does the bandwidth limit it too much?
What settings would you recommend me attempting as a very safe attempt without having to flick the switch to reset my motherboard - and could you give me a bit of a run down/how to keeping in mind i'm less than leet.
    Thanks so much
    Samuel

    Hello oscariouss,
the first basic thing you should try to get sorted before you get into overclocking is the difference between "real clock speeds" and "effective clock speeds" and also the inter-dependencies of different clocks and clock rates on an Intel System.
CPU-Z for example, shows you the "real" clock speed of your memory.  Now, as we are talking about DDR memory modules, the effective clock speed is always twice the real clock speed.  That is why "333 MHz" actually translates to DDR2-667 Mhz effectively. [DDR stands for "Double Data Rate" and this means that with each clock cycle, two transactions will take place (that is how you get the factor x2)]
    Quote
I haven't been able to find anything about 333Mhz RAM (if that IS indeed what i have - since i read it usually runs below its specs)
You probably have DDR2-667 memory modules.  To be absolutely sure about that, open your computer case and have a look at the memory modules themselves.  The brand and model name is usually mentioned on some sort of sticker.
CPU-Z should also display information about the brand and model name of your memory modules.  Have a look at the "SPD" Tab and see what it says in the top half.  You can also make screenshot and post them here for comparison.
To overclock the system, the most basic operation is to simply raise the FSB Clock Speed in BIOS.  For your current processor, the default FSB clock speed should be 200 MHz.  CPU Frequency is always the product of FSB Clock Speed x Multiplier and that is why raising the FSB Frequency will automatically result in a higher CPU Frequency.
Keep in mind, that memory frequency is also tied to FSB Frequency.  The relation between FSB Clock and memory clock is regulated via FSB/Memory Ratios that can be set in BIOS.  If your FSB Clock speed is 200 MHz and memory clock speed (real) is 333 MHz, that means that FSB/Memory Ratio is set to 1:1.66 in BIOS (probably via an AUTO setting).
Now, if you raise FSB Clock Speed, memory clock speed will rise as well.  If you would increase FSB Frequency to 210 MHz in BIOS and the FSB/Memory Ratio remains @1:1.66, memory clock speed will be forced to:
    210 MHz x 1.66 = 348,6 MHz [or DDR2-697 MHz effectively]
Please also remember, that your board is a budget model whose VIA Chipset is not really a high-end/high-performance piece of hardware.  Overclocking is not exactly what the designers had in mind here.  That means that the overclocking potential will most likely be limited and the BIOS will probably lack specific OC relevant options that will help to  reach higher clock speeds.  That, of course, does not mean that you should not at least try to check what is possible, but you should not be disappointed when you find out that you are unable to stabilize the system above certain frequencies.
I don't know which options you have to influence memory clock speed (or more precisely FSB/Memory Ratio) in BIOS.  Just have a look what options you have there and tell us here.

  • Upgrading a 7500 in 2006 (?)

ok, so I've decided to research a cpu upgrade card for the old 7500. have checked some sites (so many posts on upgrade cards have last entry from 1998 and tons of broken links) and have a few ?'s for the forum:
system now has 80mb ram, no video card, just 2mb vram. I'm assuming that, for economics, will be buying used stuff--willing to spend maybe up to $100, but would prefer less
*is it still the case that a G3 400 is about as fast a card I can put in? (i.e. is g4 out, even at higher prices? are faster cards limited by other system components like bus speed?)
*don't know if I have val4 or not--will it matter?
not looking for heavy numbers or video crunching -- simple kids-type games will be most common so there will be some video demands.
*are there any cards that were particulary good or bad fits with the 7500? (have read about some on xlrate, on bus rates, etc--were these issues cleaned up after the first couple of iterations so I could expect any not-too-old card to be ok?
*as an aside--just for fun, can a pci tv tuner work in this old fella? any experiences on that? many thanks for real-world successful system upgrade experiences or failures. I could leave it as is (and would not spend a dime, saving up for a new system)
*--also a possibility is to run it as a little server. is it possible for it to be a "dumb terminal" networked to a G5 and/or run as print server for adb-classic printer
or should I just throw the poor old guy up on ebay for a better home (any suggestions for used equipment sites other than ebay welcome too!) thanks!

I would simply keep the 7500 as a backup and to run what you already have which works on it just fine. Especially since floppy drives don't come on the new models, if any old files on floppies are going to be read, it is nice to have a machine handy. I keep my old MacPlus handy for doing the rare 400K disk which still surfaces! As an economic factor, these old machines don't have enough value other than to gift them to someone who can use them, if you don't keep them yourself.
Unless you acquire it for essentially no cost and want a hobby Mac, I also wouldn't spend today any money on getting a 604e/233 processor, as the technology is getting just too old. The newer websites, for example, seem to be built with the idea that everyone has broadband and a superfast computer; hence, browing speeds are effectively reduced on older machines.
The beige G3 (what is the actual Apple model name for a so-called "beige" G3, by the way?) does provide a lot of backward and forward compatibility, so that even if one acquires a brand new Mac, having a beige machine handy would still be worthwhile for when one had to use older scsi drives, floppies, CDs, serial printers, etc.
If one wants a hobby Mac for fun without cost being a particular factor, then the PM9600 Mac is one of the best, as it can be tricked out more than probably any other Mac out there and is super-easy to get inside. It is far more suitable to trick out than is the 7500, were you not going to get a native G3. Its main drawback is that its bus speed is only 47Mh.
What you ultimately do all boils down to cost and what hardware and software you have that you want to continue to use, and to thinking about the future which is all USB/Firewire, OS X-oriented, not now to mention the new Intel Macs!
