Speed up iPod touch's performance

Just overnight, I've realised significant drop in my iPod touch's performance while playing games. Games that used to run perfectly smooth now 'lag', which makes the games unplayable. I don't remember doing anything different to my iPod, it was just one day 'fine', the next day 'not fine'. I've restored my iPod, and before I play a game I go into airplane mode, close all running apps in the background, and restart the iPod, but the game still does not run as well as it used to just a few days ago.
Any suggestions on how to improve the speed?

Take off unecesary apps, movies, music etc you no longer use that will speed it up considerably
I assume that you're using an 8GB 2nd gen (there is no 8GB 3rd Gen) since speed is a problem

I would consider upgrading it from ios5.0.1 to ios5.1 because ios 5.0.1 performance is terrible.

I just finished installing 5.1 on my iPod Touch 4g and it is markedly improved. I do still note some of the keyboard slowness (I'm using it right now to type this), but it is much faster overall. In particular, it used to take a long time to unlock if it was playing music, and now there is no lag.
I've only had it installed for half an hour so far, but I'm already much happier using it than I was previously.

Hi everyone, I have an issue with my 2nd Gen. iPod Touch that I hope someone can help me figure out. I searched the forum here as well as the major search engines and couldn't find the needed information.
My iPod Touch 2nd generation is playing the music back faster than it should. I have never had a problem with this before so this is new to me. I don't know if it makes a difference but I am using iTunes 12.1.1.4 and my iPod is model #MC086LL/A. It was working fine one day and then the next day all the songs seem like they are playing at 1 1/2 or 2 times their normal speed.
I have tried re-syncing with iTunes but still nothing helps. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Do the songs play OK in iTunes on the computer?
If so
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

IPod Touch battery performance

I just recently updated to the 2.0 software for my iPod Touch. After installing and trying out a few apps, I didn't use my iPod for a couple days. Although I didn't have it OFF, I've let it idle for over a week before and the battery still had juice to spare. Well, the other day I went to use it and it had died from a low battery before I even picked it up.
There was about a half to three quarter charge when I had last used it. I bought it at the end of March and have used it lightly, so the battery is still practically new. So I am curious- does every app that you use stay open in the background until you turn off the iPod? And if so, does this mean that my battery is constantly being drained by apps Im not necessarily using at that moment? Kind of like how Dashboard uses the processor and extra memory in the background even when it isn't pulled up on the screen?
If this is the case, is there any way to shut down an app when I am done using it (other than rebooting my iPod)?

I finding the same thing man. got my touch back today after sending it to apple after trying to install the 2.0 fiasco, now my batter doesnt last. might have to send it in again.....
the apps might still be on in the background, but i know for a fact that facebook does not run. onse you go out of facebook, even if you dont hit logout, you logout...

IPod touch slow performance

My iPod touch 8gb 4g is becoming pretty slow now, i have restored sevaral times but still is slow.
this is what happens: when i select a app from app store (e.g- angry birds, talking tom cat) there is no animation thatapperes when you select an app. Even with no apps in background and just been restored. is this normal or is something wrong with my ipod?
It is running firmware 4.3.5

When you restored, did you restory to factory defaults or from backup? If only from backup, try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod.

Speed of ipod touch

Hi, im wanting to buy an ipod touch but thought i should do some research first. if i was to get one i would get a 32 GB so there is plenty of space to hold all my music and some of my video.
I was using a friends 80GB ipod lately which has around 20GB of stuff on it. I noticed that every time i would select a song, go back, whatever action i did, it would be very slow, a few seconds to complete the task. I thought this could be due to the fact that it uses a hard drive, not a flash drive, is that right?
So i guess what my question is firstly, ipod touch is a flash drive right? so i shouldnt have any of this delay when there is a lot of data on the ipod?

Yeah, iPod touch is flash. It is extremely good at handling a hard-drive that's almost full(or full). As long as you clear your safari's cache and cookies after a while, it should stay pretty fast.

IPod touches don't connect to home network

For some time, the two iPod touches in our household have had trouble connecting to our home network. There have been no problems with other networks. We have a cable modem connected to a Time Capsule, which creates the network, with no extenders or bridges. Our other Macs, two Macbooks and an iMac, have no problem whatsoever connecting. The iPod touches have performed variably getting connected, sometimes appearing to be connected, but slow, sometimes "Unable to join the network". The problem improved for a while, after trying all of the things suggested in the support documents and communities, and resetting the Time Capsule, recreating the network with a new name and password.
In the last few days the iPod Touches have completely stopped connecting to the network again. Even the name of the network only shows up sporadically to attempt entering the password. There is no connection with or without the WPA2 Personal security on. One thing that might be related is that when I look at System Profiler>Network>Airport there are sometimes two networks listed with my network's name, one under "Current Network" and one under "Other Local Wireless Networks". Interestingly, they are on different channels. The Current network is on "149,1" and the other is on "3". Occasionally I can see neighbors' networks, with much worse signal/noise ratios as one would suspect, so I'm not too suspicious of interference from that source although the channels are always single digit ones there. My understanding from my reading in the support documents is that the iPods connect only at 2.4GHz, which would be the single digit channels. I did try changing the channel width to 20MHz instead of 40MHz once, and that didn't seem to make a difference, so I changed it back. I decided it was time to take the Time Capsule and one of the iPods to the local Mac Store, for repair of the Time Capsule. Everything worked fine! I came back home and rechecked the home for all the things in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365 and once again found none.
The Mac technician's suggeston was to try specifying the channel, as opposed to letting the Time Capsule automatically choose the "best" one. It worked! (I chose channel 8, since I had not seen it used by my networks or neighbors' when I looked in System Profiler.)
Just adding this post in case it helps someone else.

IPod Touch 4g VERY slow wifi

I have recently bought a new ipod touch 4g to replace my old 2g ipod touch, the main reason for this is because it is supposed to be faster, granted the internet speed doesnt have much to do with the processor
But i noticed the internet was slower than usual, so i put my new and old ipod side to side and used the Freeappaday app (because it accesses internet immediately and takes a while to start up even on the fastest of connections) and on the last attempt the 2g took 10 seconds and the 4g took 30 seconds, if there was only like 5 seconds between them i wouldnt be too bothered, but it takes about 20 seconds just to load the achievements in game center!
Is anybody else having this problem? Should i take the ipod to an apple store or send it in for repair?

I've changed the router speed from "up to 270 Mbps" to "up to 130 Mbps", but no change. I've changed the channels on the router, but no change. I've powered cycled the router a million times, but no change. I've reset the network settings on the iPod, but no change. What are the differences in the wireless antenna between the 2G and 4G that could be affecting download speeds? Why is my internet speed slower on my 4g iPod touch compared to my 1g iPad (Wifi only), though we use the same router?

i bought my 4g iPod touch just 3 months ago fromt the US. Internet speed was just fine and working consistently while i was using a d-link router.
my Wi-Fi network is password protected and since has not affected the speeds on my pc or my iPad (wifi only). However, just 4 weeks ago, i bought a new router, an Aztec one. That has not improved or worsened the speeds on my pc or iPad, but worsens only my iPod touch, even though it says its connected and has a full signal strength.
Here are the symptoms:-
1. iMessage is now really slow as after i click send, the loading bar at the top lags.
2. i can't go on to google or any site or app that involves internet connection e.g. Facebook, Twitter
3. I can't purchase or get apps from the App store as the searching takes way too long.
4. Now as i pull down the notifications bar, it shows temperature but no stock; i can't even access the Stocks app
5. I can see the temperature for the day on the notifications, but i cant see the details for the rest of the week like i was able to
6. I now cant read any updated emails on Mail as it takes way too long
I live in a country called Brunei, and speeds are the worst there, yet they shouldn't be this slow especialy when my friends and other devices are working.
So, what's wrong? Is it my new router?

Have you tried a simple reset of your iPod to see if that helps? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, have you tried any of the troubleshooting mentioned in this Apple support document?

Tips to maintain my iPod Touch 5g's great performance?

I just got it yesterday (32gb model) and so far I am blown away. Overall almost everything has been drastically improved, with one of those things being battery & performance.
However, being an owner of an iPod Touch 4g as well, I am afraid to use my iPod 5g very much because overtime on my 4g, the battery & performance went down drastically. I will now list things which I think may have caused this:
-was formerly jailbroken (2 times)
-I have a lot of apps (over 64 apps; hey, it WAS a 32gb iPod 4g)
-I have no clue how I am suppose to correctly charge it; sometimes I'd overcharge it, other times I'd charge it at 50% most of the time)
-I always use my iPod(s) A LOT. I'd use it everyday for things life browsing Reddit,Vesti, playing games, photo editing or using the camera.
So any tips on what I should do and not do to maintain my iPod 5's great performance & battery life?
(So far I will not jailbreak it, try to not have as many apps as before, turn location services off, turn push data for mail off, pick not to send diagnostics to Apple, try to keep brightness on a good level, put iPod on airplane mode when no need for wifi, and charge it maybe when the battery is under 20%).

TS1363 Help with Problem encountered with iPod Touch 5th gen After performing Sync.

Hello Friends.
My name is Joaquin. I was wondering if anyone can help with a problem I have encountered with my iPod Touch 5th generation running under OS 7.0.4.
After performing a Sync, a lot of the song in my iPod showed a red icon beside the song. It is the same Circle with a square in the center icon that shows the download progress status that you see when updateing APPs, etc.
The songs play perfectly in my computer library and in an old iPod Classic but not in the iPod Touch. The only difference was that when I connected the iPod I got a message stating something like "Transfer purchases from iPod touch to computer" despite of the fact that I did not make purchases from my IPod.
I will really appreciate the help. I can´t survive without my music. Thank you in advance.

Try the following to rule out a software problem: (Not clear what you did)
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router

- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network

If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Since it connects to other networks that indicates a problem with your network
