when i create a slideshow in iphoto with the ken burns effect it works fine. when i then transfer it to idvd it will not work. any tips please.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
how are you getting the slideshow into iDVD?
what size slideshow did you send to iDVD?
can you export the slideshow to the Desktop and play it with Quicktime Player there?
    what fixes have you tried?
how much free space on your boot drive?
Here's how you should create and sent a slideshow to iDVD from iPhoto:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

My iPhone 4 no longer appears in iTunes. But it does charge. Tried most tips please help someone!

    Hi there,
No I didn't. Someone suggested in another thread that my iPod was registering as a disk instead of a device, so if I removed my iPod as a disk on Disk Utility then it would reload etc. and show up in iTunes. Which it didn't, and instead just cleared all my music (16,000 songs).
    So frustrating.
Hope if you have the same problem you are able to find a better solution!

  • HT1751 I have moved my library from an external hard drive into my laptop music file but I am not able to open i-tunes when holding down the shift key as advised in step 4 and thus not seeing the library option box - any tips please??

I have moved my itunes library from old computer to portable hard drive and then on, into new laptop, in music file. However I am then unable to open I-Tunes when holding down the shift button as directed in step 4 - this means I am not seeing the library choice box and cannot synch the tunes into ITunes library - any tips please?........Alan

Close iTunes. Click the icon to launch iTunes and immediately press and hold down the left shift key. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. If iTunes opens normally, close it,  and try again.

  • I am trying to install final cut pro 6 onto my mac but a message keeps coming up saying its doesnt support a powerpc, anyone have any tips please?

I am trying to install final cut pro 6 onto my mac but a message keeps coming up saying its doesnt support a powerpc, anyone have any tips please?

If you have an Intel Mac and have recently upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion; here is a post I made in another similar thread:
I do not have any experience with Final Cut, but if you have existing projects that you MUST access; then you are in need of a solution on your new iMac in Mountain Lion!
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between Final Cut Pro or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Purchase a used Mac that will run Snow Leopard (with the optional Rosetta installed) and continue to run FCE on that Mac (you can actually use Screen Sharing with a "headless" used Snow Leopard Mac Mini and use the screen from your other Mac to view and work FCP in the Mac Mini environment);
    2.  Upgrade to an Intel compatible version of FCP (such as FCP X) and hope it converts your existing projects to its newer format correctly.  There is much debate that the newer version of Final Cut are eliminating many needed features; for example Final Cut Pro X vs. Final Cut Pro 6 -- many users are staying with version 6;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels and then install FCE in the Snow Leopard environment:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

Hi! I have an x-mini headset which im having trouble pairing to my iPhone 5s with bluetooth, any tips please?

Cellular calling doesn't yet work reliably.
Make sure you've followed the instructions in this support article. Note that both iCloud and FaceTime on the Mac must be signed in to the same Apple ID; those are two separate steps. Also note that the Mac and the phone must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Ethernet won't work. Trying to pair the phone to the Mac as a Bluetooth device won't work either.
If cellular calling still doesn't work, sign out of FaceTime and sign back in. You may have to do the same on the phone. The email address that you use as your Apple ID must be able to receive FaceTime calls.

  • IMovie Clip Speed Issue! Please Help!

    Hey Guys.
I have been having a weird issue with iMovie '09. Here are my current iMovie and computer specs.
    IMovie '09 - Version 8.0.6 (821) Latest Update
    *Running on:*
    Macbook 5,1 (Latest Updates)
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
Processor - 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory - 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Purchased a little over a year ago.
    *My Problem:*
I start a new project in iMovie, I import the footage from my camera (Sony Webbie HD MHS-CM1 Camcorder - 1080p). iMovie imports the footage into 1440 x 1080 .mov files.
When I drag a event clip into the project area. I am able to preview the project as I work on it in the top right hand corner. Next I want to speed up the clip to make it fast forward. I click on the clip in the project, it highlights yellow. I click on the gear in the bottom left hand corner of the clip and click on clip adjustments. If I adjust the speed to any speed, even if I check reverse and I click okay. I preview the project and the preview in the top right corner is frozen at the first frame of the clip. The sound plays from the clip and regular speed. The clip in the project can no longer be adjusted or even selected. All I do from there on is delete the clip, I can't do anything and I am forced to restart the project and do it all over again, which wont work. The problem is I really need to use the clip.
I have tried to restart iMovie and even the computer, but it does nothing.
Please help me fix this problem.
    Thanks,
    Kyle

Right click on the clip in your Event and see if it gives you the option to Optimize Video. If so, optimize your video and it should be able to do the speed changes.

  • IPhoto and Aperture... working together?  Tips please?

Hi there, I'm a new Mac user. I moved over from the PC where I used Adobe Photoshop and ACDsee image viewer. I wanted to get the Aperture experience so I now have Aperture 2.
The 1st part of my problem is, a lot of my photos are already "in" iPhoto '08. I imported them before I got Aperture 2.
The 2nd part of my problem is that I don't really fully understand how iPhoto '08 works. I can't seem to wrap my brain around the notion that it's primarily a database. I have all my photos carried into my computer via iPhoto, but I immediately copy them over to my external hardrive, rename them, then import them BACK into iPhoto. Is that the scenic route, or what? But right now, it's the only way I can really get a grip on how the whole process will work to my benefit of understanding. After the pictures are back in iPhoto I then "understand" them to be existing in 2 separate places; one on my external hard drive, the other on my internal drive where iPhoto stores them (wherever the heck that is!).
This brings me to my ultimate problem. I don't, at all, understand how Aperture and iPhoto would collaborate together to allow me to edit the pictures in Aperture, while still allowing iPhoto to present them to me in a "photo viewer" type of way.
I don't know how to work with BOTH programs at the same time; Aperture AND iPhoto '08.
I want to use Aperture to edit my pictures but I still want to use iPhoto to view my pictures. I think iPhoto is a neat little program, and would really like to keep using it. I'm just recently exploring iWeb and the two really work well together.
Would anyone have any good tips for a beginner?
    Thank you so much
    YahYah

Hi and welcome to the Mac!
Alright. Before you do anything else, you need to stop, sit down and - as William said - watch the tutorial. In fact, you need to watch all the Aperture tutorials. Second, Aperture is database. Repeat after me: +Aperture IS a database. Aperture manages my pictures... I don't touch them, move them or copy them.+
If you're worried about that well, don't be. Although it appears like a monolithic file in the Finder, there is no weird compression going on that makes pictures unreadable. You can always get to a photo through the Finder if need be. But I've never had to.
With Aperture you've bought into the mother lode in terms of photo management. So please understand this: Aperture HAS to be the master here. Believe me, it'll make your life a lot easier further down the road. There are all sorts of ways to integrate Aperture in the iLife workflow. In fact a lot of iPhoto 08's (fun) functions have made it into big brother Aperture 2. My advice to you would be to use Aperture for ALL your importing, cataloging and editing and then use iPhoto on a per need basis. You can import select pictures from your AP library into iPhoto without duplicating the files by going into iPhoto's preferences/advanced and unchecking "Copy items in the iPhoto Library". This means you'll be able to drag photos from the Aperture library panel into iPhoto without duplicating anything. IPhoto will simply link to your AP library package. Things you need to be aware of:
    • read up on Aperture previews. Any picture that has a preview can be shared amongst any iLife app (iWeb included). To create an iWeb photo page for instance, you simply open iWeb, choose your template and drag the pictures you want from the media browser. Not much more difficult than iPhoto.
    • read up on import strategies. Your process as described is quite convoluted and will only lead to duplicate files all over the place. It could also generate serious problems eventually.
Using Aperture to only do editing is like buying a Ferrari to drive in a school zone. You absolutely need to grasp the concept of the application, how it integrates with the rest of your computer life and what it can do for you. I know it may seem daunting at first and you might be tempted to revert to your old ways of doing things. But don't. You'll be a lot happier in the long run AND you'll also be making the most of your recent purchases. Trust the Mac young jedi....

  • LR3-Library-Export-Image Resizing:  Specifying Pixel WxH results in different WxH - tips please?

This is a multi-dimensional question (he he).  I understand my problem is related to the original/developed WxH ratio.  If the pixel WxH I spec in Export-Image Resizing doesn't match that developed proportion, the results are not what I want.  In other words LR3 keeps the original/developed proportion and not what I want for that export.  Ok, so I just answered my own question - but..... please give me some library or export tips for doing what I want to do.
    What I do:
1 - I edit my images in RAW and like to keep them in their original proportions from my Canon camera as that is the proportion of HxW i use the most
2 - Later, if the image is really good (at least I like it), I may export it for different purposes and then may choose or require a different proportion.
3 - I would really like to not have to re-crop in Develop, then go back and Export, then go back to Develop and change it back to original.
Besides being tedious and time consuming, can anyone recommend a better way for me to do these "one off" exports (seems to happen more often lately) without screwing around in Develop and messing up my original work?
    Background:
One of the reasons I do this is to create wallpapers for computers, for various printing/framing proportions, and then for web site situations.  Windows XP (and I think the others) gets really slow if the program must re-size an image for wallpaper (why? go ask Mr. Gates... better get in line).  So to keep performance high, it is best to create the image in the exact pixel dimensions of the monitor.  This is always some weird number and not like anything else I do this for.  The other reason is for a quick, custom print job for someone who wants an odd matting setup for framing (don't ask).  This results in odd proportions.  Regarding the web.... well smooshing a pic into a column etc. etc...    Now while I am proud of my art and understand LR3 will expect me to re-crop to preserve my artistic brilliance, but really..... I would be happy with a proportional crop from the parallel sides of the offending dimension.
Also, when I spec a dimension, shouldn't the DPI gray out?  What am not understanding here?
One last request: please give me tips on solving for world peace... this one really bugs me.
    Thanx in advance!

    Bruce,
As you correctly noticed, the WxH ratio in export represents a canvas, into which the exported image is fit. Here are some illustrations on what the different settings mean:
For what you are trying to achieve, you have to crop the image to the correct dimensions before doing the export. If I had to do it, I would create virtual copies of the original image as the last step and give each virtual copy its own crop, then export the virtual copies.
    Bruce in Philly wrote:

The DPI resolution has no meaning for the size of the resulting image if you specify pixels in your export dimensions. But the resolution tag is written into the image, which might affect the way an image is printed, depending on the printing application.
But if you specify your export dimensions in inches or cm, the resolution together with the dimensions in inch/cm determine the size of the resulting image in pixels. I.e. if you specify 5x7" and 300DPI, your exported images size will be 1500x2100 pixels.

You should be syncing at about 4 Meg. The reason you are not is that the DLM system has put you on a banded profile in response to past errors on your line, the lowest of these Banded Profiles, altho' you now have no significant errors. You need to call EE to reset the DLM in order to remove any banding. However should significant errors persist the DLM will reapply banding.
