Speed up webpages

hello everyone first time posting here.
Machine Model: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 400 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 576 MB
Bus Speed: 100 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 3.2.4f1
rage 128 pro AGP
my question is, what can i do to get this mac to load webpages faster? im using firefox 2.0

Hi Dominic, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not much you can do with today's bloated Web sites & your slow CPU, Bus, & Graphics card, but these may help...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Then Apply
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
I think you should get Applejack...
Look for the 10.3 version of AppleJack 1.4.3.1 (326 KB) (For Mac Jaguar and Panther), here...
http://mac.oldapps.com/applejack.php
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • Ever since upgrading to Firefox 4, my webpages load much much slower. How can I go back to the previous version of Firefox and keep my bookmarks, etc.?

I don't have any details. The Question explains it all. We just upgraded from 1.5 Mbps to 18 Mbps download speed and webpages opened really quick until I downloaded and installed Firefox 4. I have Internet Explorer 9, but I do not use it. I would just like to go back to the most current previous version of Firefox and keep my settings and bookmarks to see if webpages still load as slow as they are loading now. If so, then it's not the browser and I'll have to troubleshoot.

You can download Firefox 3.6 from this page:
    http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
However, I'm not sure of the best procedure for removing Firefox 4. You might want to search these forums a bit for advice so you don't lose Bookmarks and other settings.

  • Speed profile

due to issues with the browser I was using on the BT speed test webpage or the speedtest.net II thought I had speed issues.
Since going back to IE10 it would appears I have no issues
So I was rebooting the Infiniity hub 3
so due to that my profile dropped from 77.44
it appears after leaving hub alone it has not gone back up
how long should it take to go back up after leaving the hub alone
    Or
could the Great MODS help me by having the profile reset so I can go though the 10 day cycle again.

it can take 2 to 3 weeks for your IP Profile to rise, you say you were rebooting the hub that should have no effect on your profile only a number of Modem restarts are likely to do that

  • Home Hub 3 is slower than dial up.

I used to be on a voyager 220v router but started having connection problems. After speaking to customer support, and after they ran some tests on the line/router, they told me that the fault was with the 220v and as it was obsolete, i would need to change to a HH3.
After receiving the HH3, im now finding that the d/l speed for webpages is slower than it was on dial-up. Ive tried running speedtester but it fails to complete and just gives an error that it cant be completed at this time and to try later. After reading another thread on this issue, i went and found the settings from the hub itself, these are posted below:-

is their anything amongst the above which explains why its running so slowly?

    Bah, this is a PITA.
Got up around 7am and the HH3 was displaying connection time of 10 hours, great, lets leave it for 24 and see what happens. Tried browsing and pages were incredibly slow to load, thats when they did actually load. I said stuff it and took the dog for a walk and left everything as is. Got back and checked again at 9.15 to find a connection time of 14 mins, so obvioulsy something has reset itself.
Tried speedtester and quite simply, the page would not load in order for me to test it.
Tried clean line check, sounds perfect, no noise whatsoever on it.
Tried connecting to the test socket and now get the following results:-

  • Ready to throw my imac out the window!!

I've had my iMac9,1 Intel 2 Duo 2, 2.66GHz, 4gb RAM, 600gb ROM for about two years now.  It has been a dream until about two months ago.  It started with my mouse malfunctioning while playing World of Warcraft.  It was like the mouse buttons were stuck. At first I thought it was the battery in my optical wireless logitech mouse  was dead so I would change it and that seemed to work for a bit. then changing out the battery would not work.  I started restarting my computer and that seemed to work for a bit.  and that stopped working so i tried all the trouble shooting ideas i could find.  I checked the mouse settings i made a second user and the problems still happen on the new user profile. i installed the new drivers for logitech.  I have my software updater set to daily and I am up to date.
I've ran disk/permission verify/repair and I get to disk repair and I would fail. so i checked the fail errors and they seem to all be on the disk/permissions that can be safely ignored list.  I restarted in safe mode and ran these and it went fine. I have reinstalled from my disk without wiping my machine clean and back to new.(would take about 8 hours to reinstall wow)  I have over 500 gb of space left on my hd.   I don't even approach my ram limit. I've tried various restarts and deleting all unused applications. I've ran thru all the system optimizing tips that I've found. and still my computer is sucking so bad.  I have pretty much gave up on warcraft because of it. and now my browsing has slowed to an unbearable pace.
Im ready just to put it in the shop and hope they can figure out what is wrong.  But it seems to work fine sometimes and im scared they will not beable to get it to malfunction to see what is really going on.
So here is a recap of what the problem seems to be.  My mouse stops tracking. the cursor will disappear like I'm holding down the button and will not reappear till i click the button a couple times. sometimes it will track just fine but will not click on anything.  and sometimes it just freezes completely.  It also seems to get worse when i plug in my IPhone to charge.  The kicker is now the loading speed of webpages is intolerable as well.
I am a mac lover and proud owner. I tell all my friends with PC's that they need to get a mac and all their problems will go away and now I'm so frustrated with mine that it is about to take a short flight to the ground outside my apartment building. please help

Try a PRAM reset.  That wll many times resolve bluetooth issues like this:

  • My iBook Flash and Youtube Tips!

    Welcome!
I noticed that a lot of people are having problems with Youtube/Adobe Flash, and I have managed to get it working at a fairly decent speed by doing the following things. This thread is just for the tips that I have gathered, and those of anyone who has something to contribute or say. So, here is what I have found.
    Youtube:
For Youtube videos, I have found that using html5 really helps playback.
To enable it, go to this address in Safari:
    http://www.youtube.com/html5
(It will not work in any other browser at this point in time) and click "Join the HTML5 trial" at the bottom of the page.
Only some videos (those without ads) will work in this trial now, but you will notice how much more smoothly and how much more quickly the videos load in the trial.
Another option is a Youtube video downloader like MacTubes, available here:
    http://download.cnet.com/MacTubes/3000-2139_4-204278.html
    Flash:
The best way I have found to use flash is a Browser developed by Mozilla, called Camino (Developed by the Firefox people at Mozilla, but only for Mac. You can go into preferences and disable flash entirely (you can view the flash item by clicking the little icon in the middle of it).
You can also block webpage ads which speeds up webpage loading a TON!
    Get Camino here:
    http://caminobrowser.org/
Thanks for reading, and I hope that this helps!

  • My 2011 i5 iMac internet is slow (upto a minute per web page).

I have a 2011 i5 iMac, a month over 3 years old. Over the past few weeks the internet for browsing, downloading etc has become so slow it's like dial up speeds, a webpage can take a minute. Other computers in the house including a macbook pro are not effected.
    I have 12GB RAM, a 1TB HD which is 2/3 full.
    Thanks!

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

My HP B110a does not remember the network data. As soon as we cut off the power supply the network settings are gone. Is this normal?

  • N900 compatability

does nothing work with the n900.i have tried syncing video with pc suite and surprise surprise it says the phone is not fully supported by pc suite so what good is it.the phone is a remarkable piece of junk.has anyone else got the same problem or a solution.

Yes and no. The phone will work.  3G data will not.
On the plus side, all the normal cellphone functions will work fine.  2.5G (aka Edge) data will work fine.  And 2G is much easier on battery drain than 3G.  So you trade some spee for some battery life.
On the minus side, with no 3G you'll be stuck with slower speed so webpages will load slower, downloads take longer, etc.  And some data-heavy activities like YouTube videos or VOIP calling (like Skype) may be iffy.

  • Webpage slow. How can I speed it up?

    Hi all,
I've created a webpage with the help of iWeb, iPhoto and Mobileme and have experienced as well that it is very slow on a PC.
I saw a program being mentioned called Web Site Maestro to speed things up. Are there any other programs around that maybe are free for download or that are a bit more user friendly?
And if you have any other ideas on how it can be sped up, I'm listening . I did already read some about changing images to text and changing the photos in photoshop from PNG files to JPG files (that seems a lot of work to me and I was hoping there was an easier way).
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Kind regards,

  • Initially Firefox was fast; since I downloaded 3.6.12 loading webpages takes more time and this is frustrating. What do I do to gain back the speed?

Firefox can take up to a minute to load my web page, sometimes longer. Sometimes I have to go back and reload to get to my destination. I have a clean, debugged, reasonably fast computer. Connectivity is not a problem. However, since loading 3.6.12 the speed is considerably slowed. When this happened before, I went back to Explorer because the speed does not slow with that search engine. I would like to stay with Firefox. What can I do or check?

Firefox is comparable to other browsers in terms of time except in startup. It took 60 seconds before I saw Firefox reappear and another 12 seconds to see this tab among my 12 tabs that were open. I used "[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/restartless-restart/ Restartless Restart]" extension to close and restart Firefox. My laptop is a single core machine purchased Jan 2010.
I know I could improve the my startup time by changing the options on one of my extensions, Infolister, or more if I [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/infolister_listing_fx4.htm#extensions disabled all 78] of my enabled extensions then it would be a faster browser but wouldn't do much for me.
One of the things that was found was that all of those fonts that we have available slows down the start-up of Firefox. I don't know if we see any improvements in Firefox 4 or 5 based on that yet though.
If you install really large extensions on your machine, and it is difficult to see how large an extension is if it is not at addons, then you are going to have lots of problems. You always want to be aware of what is listed in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions Problematic extensions] and why it was listed to know if it applies to you.
At least your time seems comparable to mine. Often when I see someone "complaining" about their time, it looks more like bragging about how fast their machine is.

  • Very slow buffering speed & webpage / image loadin...

    Hello,
about a month ago this whole problem started and i've tried almost about everything i could find on the internet to fix it, trying different versions of flash.. java different web browsers reinstalling my OS and buying a new BT Hub, but nothing has fixed it.
My download and upload speeds are what they were and have not changed at all, but when i view images, GIFs, youtube videos ect everything loads very slowly and i even get forced to watch youtube videos in 240-320p - before this happened i could watch them in 1080p and they would buffer in a few seconds.
The image and GIF loading is basically like im on Dial-Up again and portions of the image load every few seconds, also the same for netflix buffering and spotify song buffering.
Any help would be greatly apprichated because this is very frustrating.

I was just checking that there wasn't a problem with the graphics/video card. Are you connecting to the Internet by wire or wireless?
Have you checked that the Network card drivers are up to date. Use the card manufacturer's website rather than Windows which can be out of date.

  • Why is my internet speed is fast, but webpages (facebook, google search) load slowly.

This is a persisting problem. Restarting/reinstalling firefox seems to fix it for a short time but it always comes back. The same problem happens in chrome and firefox on my desktop but not on my laptop or smart phone. I've tried switching anti virus software and servers but neither helped. Other Options?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

I have not been successful with just loading 50 bookmarks my goal is to be able to have 500 tabs loaded in firefox with webpage loading stopped on all of them. I will choose reload for about 10 tabs at a time to view webpage content and then close and move on to the rest.
My ultimate goal is to clear up the Thousands of bookmarks I have piling on for the past 6 years and some are duplicates or similar page sites.
Their is no Firefox 3rd party addons that I could locate that would allow this. Only to restrict the number of tabs loaded by giving warning messages when limit is reached.

Firebug is notorious for causing problems like you described.
Disable it when you don't need it or install it in a 2nd Profile. Then you can launch the 2nd Profile separately to use Firebug and not affect what you are doing in the 1st Profile,
