IDE Miniport driver for nForce?
I have noticed that AMD itself is using for testing AthlonXP 2800+ with nForce2 the IDE miniport driver in their testbed instead the native WinXP driver.
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_756_3734%5E3746,00.html
What is this IDE miniport driver?
Will it increase HDD performance?
Where i can find it (for nForce not nForce2) ??
Operating System Windows XP Pro.
ManolisIDE Miniport drivers are usually needed when the OS does not have native support for the IDE Controller.
In some cases if the OS have bad support for the IDE Controller it _might_ increase performance. It might also sometimes be needed to solve IDE compatibility issues.
EDIT, NOTE: In some cases where the native OS support does not allow an IDE channel to use UDMA mode, a IDE driver might fix that. -
hello,
what memory would be better to buy for the nforce 2? ddr 333 or ddr 400?
well, i know ddr 400 is faster but ddr 333 is asychronous with the new athlon with 333 mhz fsb.
thanks,
edisonhello,
if i put ddr333 on an nforce 2, and overclock it as ddr400, the memory would be "stressed a little"(if it will run stabley), right? but the board wont get hurt even a little? i mean, it shouldnt because it was designed to also run at 400 mhz, right?
how about if i buy a ddr433, and put it in an nforce 2, and have it run at 433, the memroy wont have any problems since its really clocked that way, but the motherboard would suffer a little?
i'm thinking, if i'm going corsair, maybe i'll buy a ran higher than 400 so if nforce 3 comes, my memory will still live on that day since corsair memory costs a lot, i better be using it for a long time. is this a good or bad idea?
thanks,
edison -
Which is right? speedfan or corecenter for temperatures?
For some reason SpeedFan is reporting 3c less than CoreCenter for the CPU temperature, they report the same temperature for system temp.
I've always found that CoreCenter always gives a very conservative (erring on the hot side) reading. Other hardware monitors (SpeedFan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php), MBM (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/), Hmonitor (http://www.hmonitor.com/)) consistently report 4-5 degrees less for all CPU temps (idle and load) than MSI's CoreCenter does. I have also found that everybody else who has tested this has found the same thing.
As for which one is "right", just about all temperature readings (BIOS included) are not especially accurate. I tend to trust whatever monitor I'm using at the time. In the broad scope of things, 3-5 degrees is not the difference between stability and instability (or usability and unusability). The temperature report is more or less just an estimate.

NVRaid for Nforce 4 and Win XP Pro x64?
Well, I just assembled my new box today (Neo4 Platinum SLI is the mainboard) and I was attempting to install Win XP 64-bit. Much to my disappointment, when I went to install the raid drivers I got a message saying they aren't compatable with the x64 edition of Win XP. Does anyone know where I can find some x64-compatable NVRaid drivers? Thanks!

AMD64 and NForce tips for EQ2 and WoW players
I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum and play a lot of MMORPGs. Have two tips that helped me solve problems with the two newest games in that area.
With EQ2 some times my character would start running in slow motion. This was not normal graphic lag. Frame rates would actually remain fairly good. Character just moved in slow motion. Found on the boards many people with intel lap tops having this same problem. Someone figured out their CPU speed was going down during these times of slow motion. So I turned off Cool & Quiet in my bios and my slow motion problems went away. Is a shame because did not have C&Q problems with anything else.
With WoW I had a problem after completing a quests NPCs would no longer communicate and I could not log out. Other play would appear normal like MOB and players would continue to move around but after a few minutes would be disconnected from the server. Strangely mostly this problem only happened when playing Horde. Many others were having this same issue on the tech support board. For NForce chipset users what turned out to be the solution was going to Ethernet Settings---->Advanced Configuration--->Checksum Offload and turning if off. Don't know for sure buy my guess is my internet packets are a bit slower now as the downside to this fix.ive been cranking through wow for awhile now. and have not seen this problem you describe. however im a nightelf.
but thank you for sharing your insight and the first time this happens now ill who too despise and what to fix
cuz that very type of problem would be very unthinkable almost to trace back to mobo eth settings. without the common denominator on the tech support board. -

Bye ...I had to manually install the drivers on my existing xp installation. aside from that I have not gotton the black screen playing aaops with surround turned on which is when it was occuring. The installer did however extract the drivers to the c drive nicely. On a seperate partition and a clean install of xp the drivers did successfully install the agp driver but I had to manually install the soundstorm, memory, sound, and network. For anyone wondering how to install the soundstorm drivers manually I did mine by goijng to the directory where the files for the audio utilities were extracted finding the inf file right clicking and selecting install. I noticed one thing that might be a problem and that was the part where the microsoft sound files get installed didn't come up. however the soundstorm control panel and tray icon both function normally. On the existing XP installation I first removed all of items for nforce which were in the add remove programs control panel and then updating the drivers listed in the device manager again when I installed the sound drivers and utility the microsoft installer did not come up either, but the tray icon and control panel seem to work finem

NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller: Windows 7 driver?
I have a Fujitsu Siemens PC, Amilo Desktop Pi 3630 A, running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit,
which I would like to update (preferably without reinstall) to Windows 7.
When I checked Fujitsu's website and also by mail contact, I only got the response
"Your system is not certified for Windows 7"!
So I ran "Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor", which said that I can upgrade!
The only issue is that it requires an update to the driver for the
"NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller" [current version is 5.1.2600.158],
but Microsoft directs me to THIS site.
Here I search for a suitable driver for my motherboard, which according the tech spec's is
MB MS-7504PV (or MS-7504VP-PV) with chipset NVIDIA nForce 630i,
but no luck there. The MSI Live Update Online plug-in does not find anything on my Mainboard.
Over at NVIDIA's site I can find a driver for nForce 630i but only paired with GeForce 7xxx,
and I don't think I need a complete motherboard driver package.
Where can I find the correct driver?
Or do I dare try a Windows 7 update anyway?
What can go wrong?
PC: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Desktop Pi 3630 A
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz
M-board: Fujitsu Siemens / MSI MB MS-7504PV, muATX, v1.1, Socket 775
Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 630i MCP73PV
BIOS: AMI v3.0S
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
LAN: nForce Realtek RTL8211
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bitYou do not have an MSI Retail Product but a mainboard produced exclusively for the OEM Market. Neither MSI nor this forum provides end-user support for OEM products. That is also why MSI Live Update does not find anything for this particular platform (OEM). You need to contact Fujitsu Siemens for assistance (and this include BIOS Updates and drivers).

Short for Windows Hardware Quality Labs, a Microsoft facility that tests and certifies third-party hardware and driver products for compatibility with Windows operating systems. Products that meet the compatibility requirements are then allowed to display Windows logos on product packaging, advertising and collateral and other marketing materials, indicating that the product has met the standards of Microsoft and that the product has been designed to work with the Windows operating systems.
Once a product has received the WHQL logo it is listed on the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List. -
Newb question: can anyone tell me what these Speedfan temps mean???
I just built my first PC (P6N SLI-FI board and Core 2 Duo 6420 chip) and I've got a few questions about cooling (I'm using the stock cooler and the thermal paste that came with the chip):
1. I installed Speedfan, but I'm not sure what each temp refers to. After having the machine run Windows XP for a minute or two, here are my approximate readings (all in degrees Celsius, obviously):
Temp1= 23
Temp2= 30
Temp3= 145 (I think this is an error due to lack of a sensor)
HD0 = 23
Core0 = 23
Core1 = 23
After playing Neverwinter Nights 2 for about an hour, Temp2 reaches about 45 (all of the other readings are lower, somewhere in the 30s I think, but I can't remember for sure).
2. I'm going to be using my computer mostly for gaming. What temps should I try to stay below? Should I think about using Artic Silver 5? (I really wanted to use it when I put the machine together, but I wimped out because I was worried about voiding the warranty with Intel )Quote from: Snaggly Pete on 24-May-07, 23:09:08
Thanks for the info. So, none of the temperatures I've listed represent the ambient temperature? How do I find out what the ambient temperature is?
The temp in my house was probably about 70F (I didn't actually check at the time) when I measured those temperatures and yes core0 and core1 were roughly 23C. Again, I only had the computer on for a minute or two when I checked SpeedFan.
Sorry for the delay in responding to your question!
As far as case temperature, I've gone as far as suspending a household thermometer in the vicinity of the HS fan.
Fact: It is impossible for any air-cooling solution to cool the processor below the temperature of the intake airflow. Air cooling solutions, as well as liquid cooling solutions, rely on convection (+conduction and radiation) to transfer the heat off of the CPU. The amount of heat the air mass/flow can absorb is limited by the temperature of the air mass, volume and partial pressure across the heatsink(s). Except for the short time the HS is transitioning from a cooler, non-operational state, where the HS may be cooler than the incoming airflow caused by a newly started system, to the operational state with both case temperature and CPU temperature increasing, the temperature of the HS will always be above the temperature of the surrounding air.
So, given a 70F/21C room temp, you should expect the 'system' (mobo) and core temperatures to be at or probably slightly above 21C if you check Hardware Monitor in BIOS immediately and as much as 10 - 15 degrees C higher by the time you check them in the OS. Again, those figures may be lower or higher by a few degrees depending on the HS/HSF used.
Remember, when evaluating operating temps, always use the delta between case temperature and core temperature (or whichever system temp) rather than the temperature in question on its own. Say you are given two systems that use all the same components except the cooling solution. System A uses air-cooling solution 'Ace' and has a case temperature of 38C with core temps of 43C on each core, while System B uses cooling solution 'Best' and has a case temperature of 23C and core temps of 34C. Which is the better solution?
The answer is probably TEC.

Speedfan readings/settings
Hi
Could somebody help with a bit of information about SpeedFan?
I have done a search of this section, and there's quite a lot about SpeedFan, but I can't find the information I'm looking for.
I need to know which elements (CPU, System, Northbridge etc) the temperature readings in Speedfan relate to for my two boards.
I've got a Neo 875P and a Neo 875P F1S2R.
Also, what should be the safe/ideal temp readings?
Many thanks
TontoThanks for this
Have downloaded both.
HW monitor shows a display with three temperatures (as does Speedfan), provided by Winbond W83627HF.
TMPIN0 32
TMPIN2 62
TMPIN2 40
All in degrees celsius.
Problem is, I don't know which temeperatures are which, and I can't find a tab in Everets that tells me what Winbond is measuring/connected to...
I'm running a P4 3.2ghz (my first machine shown in my signature).
Any help gratefully received -

Okay so the beta 6.31's are crap (no GART) a hodgpodge of drivers
the 6.39 officials for nforce for are great with the 5.10 (GART)
This is just what seems to work the best for me, what are you guys using?Quote from: JasonKruys on 18-February-05, 02:15:43
Yes, but they work fine (in fact very well) on Nforce 3 as well, but as he mentioned, being Nforce 4 drivers, there is no GART driver which you will have to get from the 5.10 release.
hi ,

Question vis Motherboard drivers for Vista
I note that Nvidia have released Graphics Drivers for Vista 97.46
When I looked at the Platform drivers they were only for Windows XP/2000.
I will be moving over to Windows Vista Home Premium this weekend.
Will the 9.16 drivers I use so far, work.
Thanks in advance.http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_570a_sli_winvista32_15.00.html
I found this on the Nvidia Download page of their website.
The driver is for Nforce 570SLI/570/550.
However when you read below the main heading it says WHQL for 570SLI.
It is for Vista 32bit.
Could anybody tell me if this driver package will conflict with my Motherboard.? ???
Thanks in advance.
