Speedfan: Auto Speeds Fan Up But Never Slows Down

Hi
I have have setup Speedfan according to parameters posted in this forum.....
It seems no matter what... the fan control speeds up the fans but they never slow down unless I adjust them down manually....
I have messed with the advanced settings as well... and manual PVM control seems be the only thing automatically controlling the speed of the CPU fan...but as load and Temp go down..the fans never normalize or go down at all... they max out at whatever setting I've set in the speed tab....and stay there...
Any Ideas?

Well...geez....I dunno.....
It appears it is working now!!!
What have I done diffferently????.....I have no Idea....I have a Couple theories..but just guessing here.....
First I did another reboot.....then made sure corecenter was never started.....both of which I tried b4...but whatever.....
But I did notice one major difference.....this time When I launched Speedfan....there was less Info on the readings tab... as In less electrical info at the bottom.... as well as in the Temp and Speed areas of the wondow...can't remeber Exactly what is gone...but there appears to be a whole lot less useless text!!! and Only what Is Important left...!!!
Temps Are:
Desired : 45 deg
Warning : 55 Deg
Speeds are:
10 min
70 max
And After running a load all night....I took the load off and within one minute the Fan Dropped from 70% (my max set) to 40%..it's never done this b4.. all night messing with this and all I had to do was go to bed LOL....
Going to drop the desired temp to 40 and will keep you all up to date on this......

  • Since upgrade to 10.6.7, fans speed up and never slow down

    I have an Intel iMac, 2.8 GHz i7, 8GB RAM
    Just as the subject line indicates:
    After upgrading to 10.6.7, when my iMac starts to heat up, the CPU fan RPM will increase but it will not slow down until I reboot - even if I allow ample time for the machine to cool down and let it sit idle for hours.
    Right now, the CPU temperature is only 100 degrees F, utilization is at 1%, and the very loud CPU fan is still running at 4000 RPM.
    I've reset the SMC multiple times, and this doesn't help.
    The most telling aspect is that in the seven months prior, the fan would slow as the machine cooled off.  Not so with 10.6.7
    Anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks

    Resetting the SMC was my first thought, but you have done that. You might also try resetting the PRAM/NVRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    After that if the issue persists, I would call AppleCare.

  • G555 FAN - silent but never stops

    I have learned the command 'sensors' in Linux to check the temperature. I get the following reading:
    Adapter: Virtual device
    temp1:       +60.0°C  (crit = +200.0°C)
    temp2:        +0.0°C  (crit = +200.0°C)
    k10temp-pci-00c3
    Adapter: PCI adapter
    temp1:       +61.0°C  (high = +70.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
    This seems high to me, especially since there are no applications running. I also wonder what temp1 and temp2 means and why temp2 is zero.
    Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks again,

  • Finder disappears, but never shuts down

    I'll describe my problem.
    Sometimes when I go to shutdown my computer, i'll click the little apple icon in the top left and then continue to shut down. However, sometimes, probably more often than not, it screws up.
    Once i hit shutdown, it'll pause for a second and then say that "...failed to shutdown because the application _________ failed to quit, please force quit and then try again." It's usually stickies or word and sometimes safari that is the program that fails to quit, but after I force quit all of the open applications and try to shut down again, the finder bar will disappear, but it will never continue to shut down. Most of the time I have to just hold the power button.
    Does anybody know why it does this? Thank you in advance
    SSteezy

    my new macbook does this all the time, after sleeping you cannot do anything to shut it down other than holding the power button. Even if i let it boot up fresh use simple apps as soon as i close the lid it's all over it will just hang. Force quitting and relaunching makes no difference, the desktop will just clear and all i can do is go and bring up the dock and click the finder icon and that gives it back it's blue dot and brings it back to life, then try shutdown, logout or restart same thing all over.
    i'm not running anything fancy it has never ever happened on my power mac (PPC)

  • Why does iTunes rip the first part of a CD quickly, but then slows down for the last few - Why?

    I am trying to rip CD's into iTunes so sync with my iPhone.  When I currnetly rip the CD, it will rip the first 10 tracks in a matter of moments at 40x.  However, the last 4-5 tracks take forever - up to 20 minutes per track.  This has happened on multiple CD's and only with the v11.0.1.12.
    Any advice out there?

  • CPU fan spins up for no reason and never spins down

    I'm having problems with my new and otherwise immaculate iMac Intel 2.4 GHz. The CPU fan often spins up to 3500 rpm for no reason, even when left idle.
    There are no processes running to justify the noise (no Spotlight indexing or anything) and the temperatures are as low as can be.
    I have tried resetting PRAM and SMC many times to no avail.
    Usually putting the Mac to sleep and waking it up slows the CPU fan down again, but it will go nuts at 3500 rpms sooner or later.
    Once the fan has spun up to 3500 rpm it never spins down again unless the iMac is reset or put to sleep and woken up again. Even when hours of useless fan spinning has left it freezing cold.
    SMCFancontrol won't help as it can't slow down fans only make them go faster.
    Apple Support suggested I'd take it in for repairs but I'm reluctant as this smells like a Leopard/Boot Camp Issue from what I gathered on the boards. Also the repair service in Denmark is outsourced to third party repairers of questionable quality.
    Any ideas?

    I got my iMac back from repairs. They said they couldn't reproducere the error which might be as it at times appear very sporadic. The fans began to spin within the first day of use after I got it home though.
    It seems that more and more users on the boards experience this problem. My theory now is that this must be a software issue as it usually begins once people update to Leopard 10.5.2.
    The problem manifests itself like this:
    The CPU-fan will start blowing at 3500 rpms for no reason (CPU-load and temperatures can be as low as can be.)
    The CPU-fan will never slow down again by itself. Even after hours of unnecessesary spinning has left the Mac freezing cold.
    Putting the iMac in sleep mode and waking it up again will temporarily slow down the CPU fan down to the usual 1200 rpms (usually for about 10 mins).
    Resetting PRAM and/or NVRAM (SMC) will not help.
    Installing SMCFancontrol will not help as it will only let you speed up the fans further - not slow them down.
    So now I really hope Apple will address this problem with a new OS X release soon.
    Still, if anyone manages to fix this problem with a hardware replacemnt please let us know.
    Cheers, Jez

  • Random High Speed Fan

    For the few of us that have this problem (Main fans randomly go to full speed and usually will not slow down until computer is completely shut down and started again) You should get your original cds that came with your mac and put in disk one and run the extended diagnostic test. When I did this I came up with the error: 4SNS/1/40000001:VMBS. A call to apple has a tech scheduled to replace the logic board. I know it is an easy problem to ignore, but you might as well do it now before your warranty runs out! If anybody has had a different solution to this, please post.

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    The first thing you should try is to reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 This will reset the fan speed, so it should be working again.
    If after doing that, your iMac keeps turning off automatically, you should take the Mac to an Apple Store because it looks like a hardware issue

  • Dropping Wireless Connection & Speed Slowing Down

    Hi,
    Up until a week ago I had two BT lines, I will call them line 1 and line 2.  Line 1 (front room) was used purely for phone calls, and line 2 (middle room) had Broadband activated on it. When it came time to renew the yearly line rental I checked and had it confirmed by BT that the available Broadband speed was faster on line 1, so I decided to cancel line 2, and move my Home Hub 4 into room 1 having arranged to activate Broadband on what in theory should be a line that gives a better speed.
    My current problem is two-fold. Firstly I am not yet getting the line speed that I was expecting. I have spoken to the Technical Help Line, and understand that following the activation of Broadband on the line in Room 1 I should wait 10 days for the available speed to stabalise. Currently I am 7 days on from line activation.
    A few days ago I was getting download speeds around 2.70 Mbps, with upload speeds around 0.38 Mbps. The IP profile for the download speed at that time was set at 2.77 Mbps. The IP profile for the upload speed was set at 0.45 Mbps. Over the past week I have done numerous speed checks and found that the speed did vary, as might be expected, but was generally always around these figures. Because of the line check speeds I was given by BT's own staff I was expecting the available speed to get better, not slow down! I was originally advised to expect line speeds of between 3.5 Mbps - 5.5 Mbps.
    Over the last 24 - 36 hours the speed has slowed down, and a few minutes ago these are the figures I observed:
    Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.3 Mbps
     For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.8 Mbps-2 Mbps.
     IP Profile for your line is - 1.33 Mbps
    Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.34Mbps
    Additional Information:
    Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps
    Line speed then is one issue, but there is another.
    My second, presently very frustrating problem is that even though the Hub 4 is consistently powered, and maintains a steady Blue light showing that Broadband is available, my wireless connection that I receive from the Hub keeps dropping. I should add that the distance from the Hub 4 in Room 1 to where I work with my laptop in Room 2 is only about 15 - 20 feet. I used the old Hub 2 until a few weeks ago, and neither my daughter on her laptop, or myself, had any problems with 'dropping' the wireless signal, whichever room we were in, or even if we used our respective laptops elsewhere in the house. I was convinced enough by the publicity 'blurb' to believe that Hub 4 was more reliable, with fewer drop-outs. So far this has not proven to be the case.
    I know that I need to wait a few days more till the 10 days are up, but would really appreciate some kind soul commenting on the above. I have looked at the Logs, but without knowing what segment would be helpful in aiding a diagnosis of my two issues I didn't want to provide unnecessary information. So if any particular element of the Logs would be useful, please let me know.
    Yours in hope,
    Alan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello again,
    With your help I was able to locate the place to change the channel manually, which I did, thanks for that. It only resulted in a marginal improvement, but any improvement is good I guess.
    HH4 has now been showing a steady connection for three + days, so, as requested, here are the noise stats:
    16:14:16, 26 Nov.    ( 76.170000) DSL noise margin: 22.00 dB upstream, 12.20 dB downstream
    16:14:16, 26 Nov.    ( 76.080000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 3104 Kbps downstream
    I have done several speed tests and they all show broadly similar results, namely that my download speed is usually around 2.67, whereas my IP Profile is set at 2.74.
    I don't know whether this is worth mentioning but I only have an old style BT socket on my line, not one that has a test socket inside, so I can't do any of the tests using that facility.
    Although my broadband connection has been stable and active on the HH4, as far as using wireless to connect my laptop in another room I do still get several dropped connections each day.
    Even when I am connected to my HH4 by wireless, and my signal, as now, is only in the four bar bracket, by looking at the other Networks that are active in my street/area I can see, although it is rightly secured, that someone is using a HH3 and the signal on that is powerful enough to register a full five bar (excellent) strength on my laptop. How near or far away from me that user with a HH3 is I do not know, the point is however I can receive a more powerful and consistent signal from their Hub than my own. I must confess to being puzzled by that. What could be the reason?
    Is there any further help or guidance that you can give that might assist in raising my IP profile, in the hope that my speed might increase? Or do you have any further suggestions as to how I might reduce the noise on my line to a more acceptable amount, so that my signal might give me a better wireless connection?
    Thanks again for any advice or help you are able to give.
    Regards,
    Alan

  • Safari menu... fan slow down... Curious

    I notice that when I open a pulldown menu or a bookmarks menu, the fan on my iMacG5 slows down. If I inadventantly leave a menu in the down position the fan continues to run at the slow speed. As soon as I click to close the dropdown menu, the fan returns to it's normal speed. Strange, eh? This effect does not seem to happen with any other application or the finder. I am running 10.4.2

    Hello,
    Have you blown the dust out lately?
    Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • Airport Time Capsule slows down internet speed while uploading app

    Hi All,
    Internet speed is going down drastically when I am submitting any iOS app to iTunes Connect.
    Previously it was not like this.
    I have updated my Macbook Pro to Mavericks and using Airport Time Capsule for wi-fi connection.
    Is anyone facing this problem? Any help on this will be very much helpful.

    I have almost the exact setup as you, and airtunes never slows down my internet connection.
    Has it just happened recently? Have you done a reset on the TC? Make sure you are using the g network, and not in the b only mode.
    You can also make sure everything on the network are getting good signal. You can check the signal strength from Airport Utility (in the logs and Stats pane).

  • Quicktime slows down

    I'm having a strange problem with Quicktime. It seems to get slower and I have to restart to get it back to normal. Music in iTunes plays slower and tonally lower. Even iChat's audio sounds like the person on the other end has lowered their voice. Until I restart. I have the latest Quicktime, Leopard, dual 2 G5 and lots of ram.
    ????

    Hi Rick,
    I only have QuickTime Pro so can't say what happens in the standard version. However, in WTP, there is and A/V Controls Window, activated by Command-K (or Window > AV Controls). The controls include "Playback speed" which allows you to slow down or speed up playback. OK, it shouldn't change mid-session, and I've never had it do that on me, but you might like to check it out.

  • Audio/Video Slow Down

    I've been using Windows 7 since August and installed an X-Fi Titanium about two months ago with no incidents. ?For unrelated reasons, I had to reformat about a week ago. ?This leads to my current problem:
    Whenever I playback a video source, be it streaming, on my hdd, or dvd, my audio and video slow way down, about 0% of the normal speed. ?The video slow down only affects these sources, games and windows explorer work normally at full speed, but the audio is still at the same slow speed. ?Only a full system restart seems to fix it. ?
    Strangely, this problem doesn't seem to affect .divx files (note .divx, avi's encoded with divx still causes the slowdowns).
    I've installed the newest video and audio drivers; updated my codecs; tried multiple browsers and media players; rolled back to older drivers; tried the various modded drivers on the forum; tried streaming media on a VM, slowdown still happens; restarting device via device management; used windows 7 auto update drivers; scanned for spyware/virus; another reformat; removed stick of ram (brought down to 2gb from 4); ran chkdsk; and in total, spent about 0 hours googling possible fixes.
    My system specs are as follows:
    Windows 7 Pro x64
    AMD Phenom 9600 2.3 GHz
    Sapphire 4870 gb
    4gb DDR2 Ram
    Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Mobo
    2x 32gb patriot ssd (System Dri've)
    320gb WD Hdd?
    Logitech 5. speakers Connected via analogue
    PS3 connected to Optical In
    If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated. ?I'm just about at my wit's end here and I currently don't have the funds to buy anything different for my system. ?Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    you want a video to play at something other than its native framerate?
    if yes, you can't easily do that with an flvplayback component.  you'll need to separate the audio and visual parts of your video and had them to a movieclip timeline.  then you'll need to customize the playback speed of that movieclip.
    you can use the following to play any movieclip (forward or backward) at any speed:
    function playF(mc:MovieClip, m:int, n:int, fps:int):void {
        var playFFF2:Function = function(mc:MovieClip):void {
            trace(getTimer(),mc.currentFrame);
            if (mc.m<mc.n) {
                mc.nextFrame();
            } else {
                mc.prevFrame();
            if (mc.currentFrame == mc.n) {
                clearInterval(mc.int);
            //updateAfterEvent();
        mc.m = m;
        mc.n = n;
        mc.fps = fps;
        mc.gotoAndStop(mc.m);
        clearInterval(mc.int);
        mc.int = setInterval(playFFF2, 1000/mc.fps, mc);
    // and to stop it:
    function stopF(mc:MovieClip):void {
        clearInterval(mc.int);

  • Why on earth is my (fairly new) mbp slowing down

    I purchased 15" mbp last September... am running 10.6.6
    it's always slowing dow now..  and I get that **** color wheel that spins and spins...  and while it's spinning I can't switch apps or do anything else.. this really drives me nuts -- and ****** me off..  didn't expect this malfunction from a machine that cost me as much as this one did...  :-(
    machine has 4GB RAM...  I have done the disk permission thing, it fixes problem somewhat, but doesn't last long, after just a day or two the color wheel is back..  one time it got fixed with the sw update, but that also didn't last more than a week.. this *****..  what is causing this malfunction please...  I thought after I switched from pc to mac I wouldn't have to deal with this kind of problem any more..  ha...  I guess the joke's on me....

    thank you all for your responses..   I restarted after I posted this..   and then everything was cool again..  of course it's nothing but a good old memory problem....;-)  I now use the Activity Monitor, I have it in dock and open it all the time to monitor memory usage..  before I was just keeping apps open for ever, always had lots of apps open (including Photosop and Adobe Bridge...  Firefox also consumes a lot if you have lots of tabs open..) I had just thought that 4GB of memory was more than it was, I guess..  I had a pc before I purchased this MBP, also with 4GB of memory, and as far as I remember it never slowed down like this..  (but well, it was a Vista machine, and god knows I had so many other problems w/it..  it was a total nightmare....;-)
    so I gues now I just manage the memory situation better and it seems ok...  if I had known this I would have purchased the MBP with 8GB of memory (sometimes I use Photoshop extensively, for days.. something I haven't done yet since last restart...  so situation seems fine for now...;-)
    I also wanted to ask, can anybody recommend where I can buy the best/cheapest memory online?  (it's cheaper online, yes?)  unfortunately my MBP comes with two chips of 2GB instead of one of 4GB (why do they do this??)  so I have to buy two chips of 4GB...   it's a 15" MBP running 10.6.8, was purchased last September....
    and to person who mentioned the Desktop clutter issue:  I'm very adamant about not keeping clutter and junk on the Desktop..  I even have a little app called TinkerTool (that of course I found out about here..;-) that I use to config sys so screenshots land in a folder of my choosing inside Documents folder....
    thank you very much...

  • In the last week, Firefox slows down until it's unusable after about 30 mins

    As per the title. Firefox slows down until it is almost completely unresponsive the longer it is left open. When it is restarted, it works fine for a while but soon slows down a lot.
    I have about 50 tabs open and have never experienced this issue at all. I still have plenty of RAM free. When it's slow, even tasks such as opening menus or using the awesome bar slow down massively.
    I suspect a tab is at fault but can't think of an easy way to determine which one.

    I'm using the same antivirus for the last year and never had this issue before. Disabling antivirus doesn't help either.

  • Why adobe flash player slows down all browser's performance?

    I rememeber longer ago there were problems with flash player plugin inside Mozilla's Firefox browser causing the plugin to crash: Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again | Firefox Help
    After a recent update (17,0,0,134) it almost never crash but it slows down all browsers performance untill it finally launches next video. Almost the majority of all news sites use flash player
    to launch its' commercial. And it has several such boxes with commercials, for example: www.lrytas.lt
    And while I'm listening to music via youtube and on the other tab reading news on that site, when music clip ends and the browser starts to load other music videoclip,
    then the whole browser's work is paralysed - I can't write text, cannot scroll down, cannot click any link. All this is because the system is busy while in youtube next clip is loading.
    Mouse marker becomes into round rotating circle indicating loading procedure (firefox is not responding). And it takes time - up to 10-15 seconds to launch new video. Then sudenly all my actions is executed after such pause - my text is typed,
    my scroll down  and maybe link is pressed. All this slowing down procedure is annoying. It wastes a lot of time. I open task manager and I see that Firefox is taking 900.000 or 1300.000 K of memory. My OS is Windows 7.
    I close whole firefox.exe process and then it automatically close plugins. Then I open the browser again and it ask to automatically recover interrupted sites, I agree with it and then it opens everything again. And again
    it is working continuously for some time untill slows down browser again. With more tabs more problems. Moreover, view of a video sometimes comes too late too. Some images are lost as system is too late already because
    loading procedure took too much resources.
    Long long ago flash player was better. But today with a rise of new ****** substandart computers like iphones ipads you have to evolve the player in such a way that it has to play on everything, but its performance on different platforms
    is not the same.
    Who is guilty - my PC, Firefox or the plugin? Or maybe I am?
    In My Cold Opinion, users actions can't be ignored. The preference should be user's continuous control over a system load.

    You are right about high CPU usage. It was even when playing various computer games. I don't have problems anymore. But not because I disabled all addons. I did these things:
    In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
    Search for dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode in the list of preferences.
    Double-click on the preference to toggle its value from false to true. (If the setting is already true it means that Flash Protected Mode is currently disabled.)
    Close Firefox.
    Restart Firefox.
    And since then I don't have that particular problem with overloading. I just disabled some of flash protected mode. How is that related with "overloading"? Strage. Hardware acceleration I've enabled again as without it whole text field in news sites is sometimes black.
    Thanks anyway Mr.
