SpeedGrade. Choppy EXR playback

We are having issues playing EXR's (B44) on our SpeedGrade systems... The playback is very choppy since it looks like it only buffers a couple frames at a time even when cache size is set to 80%. Once the sequence is fully buffered (played all the way through) it seems to play just fine the second time. Is there a setting I am missing to get it to roll through the sequence with no stoppage the first time? Is SpeedGrade converting these files to another format to RAM when caching? We have tested this on multiple machines and have seen the same problem on each.
The machine I am currently testing is a beast of a machine:
Xeon dual 16 core
124GB of RAM
8GB Quadro K5200 GPU
Windows 8
SpeedGrade CC (2014)
This should be more than enough power to handle this if it were a hardware issue. This leads me to believe it is a software issue... Does anyone know if SpeedGrade is capable of real-time playback of B44 EXR's? If so, what are we doing wrong? Oh, we also set up a RAM disk to rule out a hard drive bottleneck.
Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

I've Done a lot of investigating into this and it is due to the way that the software team has implemented the decompress for exrs.
Currently I can cache uncompressed exrs in real time (24 + fps) and thus can watch a whole film in 1 go with no stutter. However this is not the case with any of the compressed exrs the max read speed i can get is 16 FPS
which suggests its to do with the decompressor .
It definitely not the hardware as on the same machine with RV i can get 24 fps+ with the same compressed files.
This has always been a problem since the Iridas Days I'm betting no one has looked that code block for loading exrs for years ( if it ain't broke, don't fix it)
More and More footage is coming through in HDR file types and exr is very popular in the VFX industry ... it would be well worth the software team sorting this out as more and more team i know are using RV as there main player now and this will start pushing them into the autodesk eco-system for solutions.
It would be interesting to see what the software teams view is on this

  • CHOPPY video playback of videos taken with Kodak Zi8 using Quicktime 7

I've tried everything I possibly could (hence joining this forum), but for some reason, my laptop OR desktop computers will NOT play the videos taken with my Kodak Zi8 portable HD video camera, without the videos being dark, and EXTREMELY CHOPPY, using the Quicktime 7 player! Both computers are very capable of playing HD video (720P), so that's not the problem. I can use VLC Media Player, or the media player that came with the Kodak Zi8 (Media Impression media player), and the playback is extremely smooth & bright, even at FULL SCREEN. I thought it had something to do with "h.264", but Apple says that codec is part of QT7. Any suggestions? I greatly appreciate it! Thanks! : )

I'm having the exact same problem. I have the Kodak Zi8 as it outputs a .MOV file and the result in Quicktime is choppy/stuttery playback. The Fip UltraHD camera does the same thing. I would really like to use quicktime rather than the Impressions player, but for now that's all we can use, and it looks great I just wish Quicktime would look this good. Hopefully we will get a helpul reply on this issue.

  • New Lenovo T430 Choppy Audio Playback of MP3s only in any program

    Hello,
I am trying to troubleshoot a choppy audio playback problem with MP3 files on a Lenovo T430. The sound "skips" at regular internavls (about once a second). I have tried the following with no success:
    1. Windows sound troubleshooter.
    2. Playback through WMP 12.
    3. Playback through VLC.
I was suprised to find the playback poor through VLC. Sound is fine when playing a youtube video. Any ideas on what next steps I can take would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Dave

Can you post the configuration of your T430? I've seen issues in similar systems configured with RAM amounts of 4GB or less and using a HDD and ExpressCache running Windows 8.

  • Choppy HDV Playback

    Hi,
When editing HDV in FCP 6, I often run into stuttering, choppy HDV playback when there are only a couple of video streams, a few audio streams, and occasionally some still images being layered in the time line, is this normal - especially on a brand new Mac Pro? This is all without rendering anything - but even sometimes after I render it continues to playback choppy.
I am not running any other programs in the background, and when I check istat pro as the HDV plays in FCP, the processors are barely being used. The strangest thing is if I momentarily switch to another program or the dashboard, then come back to FCP, the stuttering issues seem to go away - only to crop up again later.
Is this just how HDV is? I find it hard to believe that simple video playback like this could cause my system to slow down. Any suggestions or advice is welcome.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm up to date on all the software.
My scratch disk is a Western Digital SE16 750 Gb drive. FCP and the project files are on another 320 Gb drive.
Playback was actually on safe, I'll switch it to unlimited and see if that helps.
    Thanks.

  • HELP!!Choppy/Glitch Playback using Panasonic tm700 MTS File

    Issue: Choppy/Glitchy playback
    Video File: .MTS
Camcorder: Panasonic TM700 Recording at 1080/60p
Hours Spent reading forums before post: Infinite
    Level of agitation: Insane
Computer: Brand new Dell Studio XPS
                       Intel i7 Quad @ 2.8 Ghz
                       8 GB Ram
Geforce GT220 1GB designated (kinda weak i know but good enough)
Apparently Premiere hates MTS files =[
Anyways, I am getting the red bar on the timeline so I know my settings arent aligning with my source material.  The issue at hand is
that the material taken from my camcorder is taken at a 60p framerate and I do not see this option in the available presets.
What do I DOOOO?!!?!?!  The field order is set to progressive scan.  I updated all drivers, installed codecs, and am
hooked up to an HD monitor.
I'm actually pretty new at this so dont bash me if this is a simple fix.  Thank you for your timee!

Tune your system as best you can: Adobe Forums: Guide for installing and tuning a Vista... which says Vista but also applies to Win7.
Apart from that not much you can do apart from investing more money in a Dell system, which usually is the same as having them steal you blind. You can't overclock a Dell, due to the crippled BIOS, you can get more memory, 8 GB is cutting it thin, but the prices they charge for that...
You can improve your disk setup yourself without intervention (stealing) by Dell, but your CPU is not the fastest and with AVCHD it is usually the CPU that is the main bottleneck. One of the drawbacks of an i7-860 on a P55 mobo.

  • How to fix choppy video playback on Windows Surface Tablet

Choppy video playback is driving me crazzzy.  How can I fix it?

If you're using Internet Explorer, there is nothing you can do here in the way of reinstalling, repairing or even updating it.
Microsoft embeds it and it's "their baby".
You can try repairing IE: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378
Also, make sure it's porperly enabled:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/885448
and that ActiveX controls aren't blocking it:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968
Apart from that, streaming issues are connectivity related if they persist.

  • Speedgrade CC 2014.2 build 8.2x51 unsmooth/choppy 4K playback with GPU R9 295x2 - it uses only 2 GB of RAM (Windows 8.1 64Bit), Mac OS - same problem

    Hello, guys
    I have following configuration:
    i7-5960x @ 4.3 GHz
    32 GB DDR4 RAM
ATI 295x2 8GB (Gpusniffer.exe shows 3072 MB on each Hawaii unit)
    M.2 Ultra Samsung XP941 (>1000Mb/sec)
Few 850 Pro SSD for H.264 4k source
Latest Speedgrade CC build at 16/02/2015 (DUAL MONITOR SETUP - 2560x1440 for Interface and 4096x2160 for Preview)
I work with a lot of short 10-15 seconds 4K 4096x2160 24FPS H.264 clips from Panasonic GH4. Import them to Premiere CC as is, some warp stabilization, cut them, save project and open in Speedgrade CC. Everything is fantastic smooth in Premiere CC.
In Speedgrade - some simple color correction - Exposition, some keyframes and the most simple grading for some material. I use GPU acceleration for sure to have full 4096x2160 4K 24FPS. But it is not responsive and smooth after some correction is applied. Everything is choppy and freezes first seconds, when I press "PLAY". I used Resources monitor, Task manager (Winodws 8.1 64-bit) and Afterburner. And there is what I found out:
Afterburner shows utilization of single GPU (as we know for playback only 1 GPU used) the same amount like in Premiere. Speedgrade CC uses 2,5GB VRAM. By the way, if I use some none-gpu-accelerated effect, like "transform", for example, imported from Premiere, I will get "Not enough GPU resources" message in Speedgrade. Afterburner shows, that Speedgrade CC tried to utilize more, then max. available VRAM 3GB during this moment. So I switch off such effects, before open project in Speedgrade.
Processor is also low on utilization (15%), maybe even a little lower, then in Premiere CC
Disk - 3-10%, H.264 is low on it
RAM !!! - is the problem. I allowed to use 29 GB of RAM to Adobe apps. Speedgrade CC uses not more, then 2-3 GB according to Taskmanager (mostly 2GB) and Resources Monitor of Windows 8.1 64Bit Pro. After I finished with color correction, opened project in Premiere CC, everything works smooth with lumteri on and! Premiere CC uses 9-10 GB of RAM to play the same clip at full resolution smoothly!!!
I already reinstalled everything, including drivers for GPU, Windows 8.1 and Adobe CC. Same result.
    Macbook Pro Retina 15 late 2013 with i7-4960HQ/16gb RAM/Geforce 750m UPDATE!
Under Mac Os Yosemite 10.10.2 - same situation here. Premiere CC uses 5GB (of 11GB available) for 4096x2160 Prores 422 HQ and is usable, smooth with some frame drops.
Speedgrade CC uses 2,5 GB of RAM for 4096x2160 and it is impossible to use full 4096x2160. Only 1/2 Resolution for preview is smooth and usable at notebook display. At external 4096x2160 monitor connected through Thunderbolt it is much more choppy, I think it is hard for 750m with 2 GB of VRAM.
UPDATE! Previous version (CC 2014) of Premiere CC and Speedgrade CC under Windows 8.1 64-bit - same situation.
    What do you think?
My opinion - Speedgrade CC is not optimized for 4K resolutions. Premiere CC is good for 4K.
btw, for information, latest AMD catalyst omega driver 14.12 has a problem with my R9 295x2 and Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) OpenCL - just the black screen with sound, when I turn on GPU acceleration. So I use previous 14.9 version. With 14.12 GPUsniffer.exe found one GPU device with 4Gb of VRAM and one GPU with 3GB of VRAM (normally must be 3GB+3GB for 295x2 Dual GPU-chip radeon).

So, I got MSI 290x 8GB tested and... found out that I can't use 8GB of VRAM, because there are some AMD driver limitations!!!
    1. I switched off my 295x2 8Gb (4GB+4GB) to be sure, it will not affect VRAM amount.
    2. I launched Gpusniffer utility with 14.9 AMD driver and 3072 Mb VRAM was available ONLY! It worked like 295x2 with 3072 + 3072 Mb VRAM.
    3. I installed 14.12 AMD Omega driver and GPUsniffer informed that I have now 8192 Mb!!! But! Mercury Playback Engine did not work with Premiere Pro CC or Speedgrade CC as with my 295x2. Just black screen.
RGB and Luma at 0 and preview is black with 14.12 AMD driver. Premiere PRO - the same situation.
With 14.9 AMD Driver. Left 2560*1440 Dell working area monitor and 4096*2160 preview LG monitor right side.
With 14.9 Gpusniffer shows 3 and 3 and 3GB Vram instead of 4GB and 4GB and 8Gb. As I understood with CrossfireX switched off - Adobe products and their GPUsniffer utility could "find" and use 8GB on primary GPU, but again we can see AMD driver issues.
Single 290x 8GB with 14.9 AMD driver also displays only 3072 Mb available in Gpusniffer.
NEATVIDEO informed on their website in Bugs section about 14.12 driver problem with MPE. They also wrote about problem to AMD, so I did. I think, this is really bad story. So, AMD, we are awaiting for normal drivers.

  • File type m2t is choppy during playback

    Hi,
I've read many post on choppy playback for different file types but not found many solutions to the problems.
    My Story:
I have Pr CS4 running on Windows 7 x64. PC Spec Quad Core 2.5G, 4G DDR2 RAM + Onboard Geforce 7100 (Dedicated RAM for this card).
I attempt to play raw m2t files through Pr source and timeline windows without any modification... using the default window layout. The results are choppy video with audio playing fine. This is like many other people but not seen anyone with this issue using m2t as far as I've searched. AVCHD is causing many issues and it looks like the same problems.
I have a work around that helps but is not ideal though. If I reduce the playback window to 25% it works fine. Audio and video in sync as far as I can tell... but thats the problem, it's a little to small for me.
My question is like many others - does anyone know what could be causing this? I've read that Pr CS4 itself is causing the issue... This may be true as I've played back at full screen via VLC and windows media player. I've also renamed the files to mpeg as someone suggested but that gave me the same results.
The kicker is that I've run the same files under a WinXP OS on the same system (32bit version so less RAM available!) and I have no problems. That makes me think it could be to do with a codec installed on XP. I had ffdshow installed on XP and also a few others. I briefly tried ffdshow on Win7 but it installs under the x86 program folder and doesn't seem interested when launching Pr, unlike when launching under XP.
So, I'm stuck. If anyone has a magic codec out there that possibly sorts this issue out please share . Does anyone think it's WIN7 specific? I've read recently that adobe fully support Pr under WIN7 now so surely this is not the norm?
Does anyone else know of a free HD capture tool that captures in a different format? I've used HDVSplit recently due to the scene split function that Pr doesn't supply under HD (btw....Why!?!?!?)
Hope I find some answers soon
    Cheers,
    Docj0nes

Just for closure this issue has been resolved now. I did not change my PC, just reverted back to using XP for a while. Tried again on Win7 recently and the vids play back perfectly fine. Update from windows rather than adobe may have fixed it as Idid not recall an adobe update being installed.

  • Choppy video playback with FCP 6 and 5D footage already converted to Aplle ProRes 422

I am trying to edit a film I shot on the Canon 5D using FCP 6. I converted my raw files from the Canon 5D to Apple ProRes (HQ) .
But as I try to work on the timeline everything is super choppy and drops frames constantly. I am trying to sync audio as well and it's been impossible since the video in not playing properly.
I have read many post and did everything you say to do, but no luck.
I have chosen the unlimited RT and still dosent wanna play right.
I'm editing off a 1TB G-RAID drive. It currently has 200GB left of free space, so that shouldn't slow things down. My computer has a 500GB Internal Hard Drive and I currently have 250GB of internal free space. Here are the specification of my computer:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro3,1
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          3.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          2
      Total Number Of Cores:          8
L2 Cache (per processor):          12 MB
      Memory:          18 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.6 GHz
THis should be a powerful computer, at least thats what I tough when i got it. There has to be a solution to my frustration..please help!!!

You could have a problem with your external drive.  Run diskutility: diskrepair and diskwarrior (if you've got it) on it  Is it formatted macosextended?   You might run a drive speed test and see if the drive is running up to spec.
Try copying one file to your internal drive and see if that plays any better.
Have you tried deleting your fcp preferences?  (get preference manager from www.digitalrebellion.com)
Are you just monitoring the video on the computer screen?
You might try resetting your window arrangement in fcp;  window:  arrange:  standard and see if that makes a difference.
Is playback uneven on both viewer and canvas in fcp?
I'd go out and buy a 7200 Sata drive and install it internally and try playing off of that.  MacPro's have 4 internal drive bays and it's extremely easy to install another drive.

  • Choppy mp4 playback in iTunes

Until tonight, I've never had issues with video playback in iTunes. I have a library of mp4 video files that I've played successfully in the past with little or no video quality issues.
All of a sudden, none of my videos will play correctly in iTunes. The video is incredibly choppy, with a new frame or two playing every 30 seconds while the audio plays relatively normally. If I open the same file in another player (VLC or WMP), the file will play correctly with no choppiness. In fact, I can play the video file in both players at the same time with zero quality loss, so there's no lack of computer power that would cause this in iTunes. To the best of my knowledge, nothing changed on my system to prompt this - I was literally in the middle of watching a video when it happened.
After experiencing this issue, I upgraded iTunes, Windows, and my video card drivers to the latest versions/drivers (rebooting several times in the process), but this did not help. Next, I followed all of the instructions in the relevant support document (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718), also to no avail.
For the heck of it, I rented an HD movie from the iTunes store and had the exact same problem. I originally thought that this might be an issue with my media, but it is clearly not.
I often stream video from my PC to my AppleTV, and this is also experiencing the exact same choppy video (as you would expect).
I have no clue what else to try. I would prefer to watch the videos in another player, but this is sadly not an option if I wish to continue using my AppleTV. Has anyone else experienced this (or a similar) problem? I'm at my wits' end, and very unhappy that I spent so much time transferring my video library into iTunes. Nothing substantial changed on my computer that should have caused this, especially not in the middle of watching a movie. Any help or further ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Solution: format computer because iTunes is terrible. Problem "solved," I guess

  • Apple TV 2 choppy video playback when mirroring from Macbook Pro (Yosemite) and Macbook Air (Yosemite) but not iOS devices

Video playback is choppy (cuts out every 30-45 seconds) when air playing from both my MacBook Air 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5 running Yosemite and my husbands new MacBook Pro, but runs perfectly when mirroring from any of our iOS devices (iPhone 6+, iPad mini 3, etc.) We have Apple TV 2. This problem just started a few weeks ago, was working fine around Christmas. The problem seems to have coincidentally started right after our son tried plugging in and setting up his Chromecast on our tv. I disconnected the Chromecast, but we still have the problem. All of our software if up to date and I've tried disconnecting blue tooth, we do not have a microwave and our wifi network has a very strong signal. We have an Airport Extreme base station. Is there a solution to our problem?

    Hi leahmturner,
I see that you are experiencing an issue with choppiness while AirPlay Mirroring from your computers to your Apple TV. I have an article that contains some helpful troubleshooting steps for you regarding this issue:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201343
    Optimizing image quality
    Resolution matching modes
You can choose between two desktop resolution matching modes that let you select which display will have the best image. When AirPlay Mirroring is turned on, select an option under "Match Desktop Size To:" in the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra.
Match Desktop Size To: Apple TV
AirPlay Mirroring changes the desktop resolution to best match your Apple TV, resulting in a 16:9 image that fills the HDTV screen. This setting often produces the sharpest image on the HDTV. The aspect ratio and/or resolution of the built-in Mac display may change to accommodate the Apple TV.
Match Desktop Size To: This Mac
AirPlay Mirroring scales the contents of the desktop to fit on the Apple TV, leaving the resolution of your Mac's display unchanged. Use this setting for the sharpest image on your Mac's display. Depending on your Mac model, the resulting image may not fill the HDTV screen.
    Troubleshooting AirPlay Mirroring
If you don't see mirroring options
If your Mac and Apple TV are on the same network, but no AirPlay Mirroring menu appears, your Apple TV may be asleep. Simply press a button on your Apple TV remote to wake it up. After a few seconds, the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra appears. If you still don't see the options you expect, make sure your Apple TV has the current software update installed. Also make sure that you have the "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" option selected in the Displays pane of System Preferences.
If the menu bar or Dock is cropped
Some HDTVs have bezels that cover a small percentage of the screen. This can result in a slight cropping of a full-resolution HDTV image. Depending on the HDTV model, AirPlay Mirroring may automatically adjust the picture size to prevent cropping.  If you are using OS X Mountain Lion or later, and you see cropping of the menu bar or Dock when using AirPlay Mirroring, toggle the Overscan correction option in Displays preferences.
    Minimize video post-processing
HDTVs often apply picture quality enhancements intended to improve the look of film and video sources. In some cases, these enhancements can lead to over-sharpening artifacts when displaying your Mac desktop. Some HDTV models have built-in settings to change or disable the enhancements for use with a computer (computer, presentation, or game modes). Otherwise, the controls for sharpness, detail enhancement and noise reduction can be used to optimize the appearance of the Mac desktop. Consult your HDTV’s manual for guidance on the appropriate settings for use with a computer.
    Firewall security settings
If you use a firewall, make sure the following firewall security options have been set to allow AirPlay Mirroring to work:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu ().
Click Security & Privacy, then click Firewall.
Click the lock icon to unlock it if it's locked, then type an administrator name and password.
    Click Firewall Options.
Deselect (uncheck) the “Block all incoming connections” checkbox.
Select (check) the “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” checkbox.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Regards,
    Braden

  • Choppy video playback on my 1st Gen iMac G5

Everything from internet video to DVD playback on my 1st Gen iMac G5 is choppy and getting more so as time goes on. Can anyone tell me if this is a symptom of the defect that's covered under the extension plan or is this just some other problem?

Check the version in the Application Folder!
(I have had no problems at all after installing QT 7.5 on my G5 iMac in case you think it can't work at all.)
It is possible that something in either your pre-existing setup or your method of installing updates, are the root causes of whatever problems you are having with QT 7.5 particularly with choppy playback. Out of date plug-ins and add-ons could also be playing a part. Some users have found choppy playback to be associated with improperly loaded plug-ins and add-ons from third party vendors as well as those included by Apple with prior versions of Quicktime.
Third-party add-ons include DivX, Flip4Mac, or FLV components, while the included plug-ins are AppleIntermediateCodec.component, and AppleMPEG2Codec.component. The files for these are located in the root library, therefore a faulty component will load improperly for all users, resulting in choppy playback even when a user creates a new account. Some may need updating or just reinstalling to work with QT 7.5.
    You should therefore:
Remove and re-add all quicktime components and plug-ins.
    Navigate to /Library/QuickTime/
Move all plug-in ".component" files from the folder (to the Desktop, for instance)
Launch QuickTime and quit it again
Place the ".component" files back in the QuickTime library folder
Launch QuickTime again, and the choppiness should be better.
A few more things to try but in each case first close all applications and repair permissions.
1 Try opening then closing GarageBand, or launching then quitting the "Audio MIDI Setup" application located in Applications/Utilities. Failing that, go back to Audio MIDI Setup, and under the Audio Devices tab, make sure the Audio Output Format is 44100.0 2ch-16bit.
    Restart your Mac.
2 Go to the Library on your main hard disk and find the Internet Plug-Ins folder. Try removing the following files:
    QuickTime plugin.plugin
    Quicktime plugin.webplugin
    Restart your Mac.
    Re-install the Quicktime 7.5 update
Go to Home/Library/Receipts and delete the file Quicktime 7.5 pkg.
Download from the Download page on the Apple site the correct version of Quicktime 7.5 for your Mac.
Install it and restart your Mac. Repair permissions.
3 If still no luck, it is time to look carefully at your plug-ins and add-ons. The safest way is to download and re-install all of them. The ones you need in order to see and hear virtually everything the web has to offer are:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of all recent Security Updates.
(N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
If none of the foregoing worked, then you should consider and archive and install before repeating all of the above.

  • Choppy DVD playback on external monitor

I have a new Samsung Syncmaster monitor, which I am connecting to my MacBook via DVi. I tried playing a DVD in the DVD player, but when I move the window over to my external monitor, the playback is choppy (although the audio plays perfectly). The display resolution for the external monitor is set to 2048 x 1152 by default, and when I change it to 1920 x 1080, the DVD plays perfectly. Is this because something isn't able to support the high default resolution of my external monitor?

How is the Panasonic monitor connected?
How big of a black horizontal line? Is it at the bottom of the screen, or near the bottom of the screen and in the picture?
We need a little better explaination of what you're doing.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Extreme Lag / Choppiness In Playback Please Help

I have a brand new Windows 8.1 Desktop
1 GB Video Card AMD Radeon 7700
    16 GB Ram
    3.4 Ghz i7-3770 CPU
Scratch Disk on an external drive that spins at 7200 RPM
I'm coming from a Macbook Pro (with less specs then the current desktop I'm using) in which I had no problem with playback choppiness/lag with premiere pro cs6, so this has been quite frustrating to figure out.  I've looked at several other threads, etc and there has been little help on the subject it seems.  If anyone has any tips, advice, or can point me in the right direction to get rid of the lag/choppyness that would be a blessing.

    Okay I solved the problem.
If anyone else encounters this here's how you solve it.
    Goto "Sequence"
    Goto "Sequence Settings"
Here you will see "Video Previews"
    Preview File Format
I switched from "Microsoft AVI" to "P2 720p 60hz dvcprohd"
Now there is no lag/choppiness in any of my video preview files.  HOORAY!
