Speedgrade - sdi card

How does one get Speedgrade to recognise a Black Magic HD-sdi card?.
The same one that Premiere CS6 ( and Da Vinci Resolve) has no problem recognising and using.
I get an error message from SG Display settings  that the "video card" does not support sdi output .
Well that would be correct but the 3rd party card  does.
Does SG utilise Mercury Transmit?
FWIW - AEFX is not seeing the M card either.

Hi.
Is well known that at the moment SpeedGrade only works with Nvidia SDI. The fantastic performance of SG is thanks to works into the GPU, and is necessary a direct output. I don't understand (and I believe anybody neither) the reason for Nvidia SDI is so expensive. So I think is sure we will see affordable SDI output via third parties in the future.

  • Does CS3 support the AJA Xena HS SDI card?

    Hi,
I have been doing some research but I'm unsure as to whether the AJA Xena HS SDI card is supported by Premiere CS3. I know its supported by Premiere Pro 2.0.
The HS card is about $800 compared to about $3000 for the 2K and $1500 for the LH card.

    Jeron,
Thanks. CS3 is now supported with version 3.x HS drivers. However, there does appear to be some limitations with the HS card even when using the 3.x drivers as noted on their support page...
Quote: "Note: In Adobe Premiere Pro, users must use Adobe's Serial Device Control. Frame accuracy is not claimed by AJA when using this device control."
This appears to be an issue with the HS cards only.

  • Two BlackMagic DeckLink SDI Cards in FMLE

Is it possible to run two BlackMagic DeckLink SDI cards in two separate instances of Flash Media Live Encoder?
I can run one fine, but if I try to select the other, even if card # 1 [Decklink Video Capture in FMLE] is not in use, card #2 [Decklink Video Capture (2) in FMLE] only shows black. I have verified that video signal is working. Finally I installed Wirecast Demo to test if it was software and sure enough it works fine in Wirecast, each card shows the video fine.
I contacted BlackMagic and they stated it was the software. I have successfully done this with Viewcast Cards but now that we went HD BlackMagic are cheaper, but so far no luck in FMLE.
I would appreciate any isnight on this issue.
    Thank you!
    -Nate

    Hi Pi,
Did you manage to resolve the problem? We're having similar issue. BM Media Express software recognises the card, but FMLE just reports it as Decklink and gives a blank input display. Any attempt to change settings causes FMLE to crash.
    Thanks,

  • DeckLink SDI card & FCP & Wireless - no no!

    Hi All
I purchased a DeckLink SDI card so I could connect my SDI studio monitor for preview. I also have a wireless (new magic mouse) mouse. After the card was installed my mouse started acting up and finally quit working.
After a phone call to Apple Care and 2 trips to the Apple store lugging my Mac Pro, we found out that it was the card that was somehow affecting the bluetooth. The Apple Genius was about ready to order a new Bluetooth card. We had the card on slot 2 first then tried it on slot 4 as Blackmagic recommended. As a last resort we pulled the card out and WALA! the mouse started working fine again.
I called Blackmagic Design and while the support guy was interested in the case offered no suggestions or help. He told me that was the first time he's come across this; but was going to send in the report.
So what do I do? Space on my desk is limited and wired mice are cumbersome. He suggested that I use a wired mouse and hopefully I'd hear from them. Nope! I got 14 days to return the card to B&H. Blackmagic didn't even want the card or offer to swap it out.
Has anyone experience this besides me? Bad card or flaw? I didn't want to be stuck with a $265 card I can't use.
So now back to the drawing board. All I want to do is connect my HD studio monitor to the Mac Pro. I don't need a $1000+ do everything card.
    Just a 'heads-up".
    Allen

For having a low signal, consider the distance of the pc from the router. And regarding the internet connection, I believe you haven't configured it yet that's why it's not giving you an accesss to the internet.

Can the MBP connect to an HD-SDI card?

You may wish to check on Vydeo's Express Lane Express Card/34. It supports both Mac OS X and Windows XP, in the event you can't decide which OS to run on your MBP.

  • SDI Output from Speedgrade

I have a blackmagic design decklink SDI card.  Works ok with Premiere, but I don't see any way to output a signal from speedgrade.  (There's an SDI out option if I have a specific nVidia quadro sdi card, but I don't have that and I'm not going to buy it just so I can use speedgrade.)
Kind of hard to grade without a proper SDI output to a calibrated monitor...  Am I missing something or is this feature just not part of speedgrade?

I'm currently deciding between configuring a Speedgrade and DaVinci Resolve system.  I was hoping that Speedgrade would work with my Kona 3 card. As the Davinci requires buying the decklink card as well as two graphcis cards.
I realize that a Quadro 4000 will speed performance up. Wondering if the Quadro 4000 can be configured to do SDI out through by adapting the displayport output?
Would be great if the Adobe Speedgrade web page made the SDI monitoring workflow more clear. So far working through the trial,it looks like great software.

  • Sdi capture card

Can anyone recommend as sdi card for a pc to use with flash media encoder? I have seen several problems with the black magic deck link. I need to get my video from a vaddio switcher to the pc. I can use either sdi or hdmi.

  • NVidia SDI doesn't work

Upgrades 1 and 2 are very disappointing.  My system has NVidia SDI and BMD Extreme 3D both installed. After upgrades NVidia SDI doesn't work and the BMD doesn't do 3D.
Again, is there any real testing done before a release or is it just left to the paying customers to find the bugs.  Frankly I need to get work done.

This is the most recent info I've found on using the SDI outs ... and yes, I do hope this works easy, more obvious, and more reliable for people with the next release. They have acknowledged here that this is not always functioning properly for all setups and all external "tools" at this time. Which is about as much as they could do really.
    Advanced dual-monitor setup
The advanced dual monitor setup uses nVidia Quadro SDI technology to allow for real-time 10- and 12-bit output over Single Link or Dual Link SDI. The nVidia Quadro SDI setup requires a 64-bit Windows 7 system.
Connect the DVI or DisplayPort output to the display you want to use for the SpeedGrade workspace.
Use either a Single Link or Dual Link SDI output from the NVIDIA SDI card to connect with external waveform and other monitoring devices, and your reference monitor or projector.
In SpeedGrade, select Settings > Display.
In the SDI Output section, change signal and format settings according to your desired output format settings.
    Select the Enable option.
FAQ: How many outputs on the nVidia GPU can be used in parallel?
Only two outputs at a time can be used in parallel. The SDI card is routed through the Quadro GPU and thus takes one DVI or DP output. The other output can be used for the workspace display. The additional DisplayPort is not active in parallel.
Tip: Combining local footage display with a projection setup
To give the operator an accurate local display in parallel to another display or projection system, a signal split on the SDI output is recommended. This is the recommended way to monitor a signal through external waveform and vectorscope devices.
Using multiple monitors also requires an understanding of the odd way SpeedGrade "references" multiple monitors in the setup section. So you have to figure out how to set those numbers for the second display AND the above info on SDI to get it to work. Note, basically they suggest running two monitors and if you need more ... run a splitter on one channel outside the computer. So say your external scopes and broadcast monitor would run off one output from the computer, connected to some external box.
As for the two monitor setup, SpeedGrade assumes 1920x1080 monitors ... and that the interface shall be on the Primary monitor as determined by the computer system. So when setting the numbers in the dual monitor setup, you use "Top" to tell Sg the * relative * position of the top left pixel of the second monitor to the primary monitor. The " 1 " pixel is the primary monitor's upper-left pixel, all else is computed from that point, going to the right and down. In my case, my monitors are stacked, primary on the bottom, program monitor on top. So I set the "top" number to -1080 so Sg "knows" the top left pixel of my second screen is 1080 pixels "earlier" (negative) than the primary top left pixel.
As the two monitors are relatively in line vertically, the "left" number is " 0 ". And as the second monitor is 1920x1080 I put those numbers in the height/width area. SpeedGrade ... normally ... understands the basic pixel dimensions of the primary monitor, but you have to tell it the size of the secondary one. If your secondary is say 3,840 × 2,160, you'd put that in the width/height, and compute (depending on where your top-left secondary pixel is from top-left primary pixel) the figures above. Trip up on any of the above, you get ... bizarity. Truely.

  • SDI issues

I am using an Nvidia 4000 SDI card on Windows 7 64-bit. We use Speedgrade all day long every day. About 5 times a day the entire SDI screen (we are using dual link 422) goes to snowy static. We can either restart Speedgrade or go into the settings and disable then re-enable SDI output. This is becoming an issue for us. We updated to the very latest nvidia release and it still does it.
    Is anyone else seeing this?
    Thanks.
    -Trevor Cable

    Sorry Trevor.
I have no SDI card, so I can not say anything about your question. But I would like to ask you, if you do not mind, as is the performance with SDI card.
I like to know if the Speedgrade's overall performance using the Quadro 4000 is improved using SDI daughtercard, compared to use the usual dual screen mode with two DVI or Displayport. I do not mean the color accuracy, but speed, responsibility and overall performance of the program.
    Thanks.
    Best regards.

  • Dual SDI output

    Hi,
I am currently using Speedgrade with an Nvidia 4000 SDI card for stereoscopic output to a projector with dual SDI inputs. I understand that people can now use 3rd party (thought I've only heard of people using Matrox) io cards.
I searched Adobe's site for any info regarding 3rd party io cards with speedgrade and there's something about Mercury something or other but I can't find any specs or recommended cards. Does this really work now?  Is it buggy?  Can it do true stereoscopic (dual SDI)?
I'm looking for more info regarding this so if there's a good info source for this I'd love to look it up.
Thanks for any answers to my questions or just feedback regarding this.
    -Cablet
p.s.  Hoping to move to mac from windows if possible yet keep the dual SDI output.

I'm not sure about 3D, but with the 7.0.1 update SpeedGrade supports AJA, Matrox and Bluefish boards as Dual Display using "Mercury Transmit"(meaning those cards display the image), so that includes SDI on mac if the card has that option. I don't know if the Q4000 with SDI daughterboard works on Mac, oficially it is not supported. Do note that Apple apears to be moving away form PCI-slots, in favour of Thunderbold.

i am planing to buy license of premier pro.I wan to capture picture from my camera .which card  i want to install ??

If you're asking about Live Capture, where you record the camera feed direct to hard disk, then you need a Firewire interface or one of the (few) supported HDMI/SDI cards such as the AJA Kona, Matrox MX02 or BlackMagic Intensity Pro - however those have very specific motherboard requirements so you need to research them carefully before buying anything.
For an intro to Live Capture I suggest you read the manual: Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Capturing and digitizing footage

  • NVidia Quatro FX 5500 SDI in MAC PRO

Has anyone had success putting the nVidia Quatro FX 5500 SDI card into the MAC PRO?
This is the display card with the HD/SD-SDI output option. They have windows drivers and am considering buildind a dual boot machine but want to know if MAC OS will function with it.
    Thanks.

The only officially supported card is the Quadro FX 4500 and that is the only one that has the ROM with the EFI, letting it initialize and boot properly under OS X.
All other cards might work with limited (or no) success under OS X, while most will probably work under Windows without any issues.
The expansion cards for the Mac Pro are still half a year away, if we are lucky.

  • SDI capturing

I own a powerbook but will be getting a powermac. I want to buy an SDI capture card to use with the powerbook, so I can go see clients and capture the footage (HD, DVCPRO, etc.) there.
Can anyone recommend an SDI card? Is it realistic to be able use one with the powerbook, or do I need one for apowermac? Are there certain cards that work better with FCP than others?
    Thanks,
    Nathan

Three manufacturers make SDI capture cards for the Mac:
    http://www.auroravideosys.com
    www.decklink.com
    www.AJA.com
All work well. BUT...the only one that will work with the Powerbook is the AJA I/O. It captures SDI and sends it down a firewire connection. The thing is that you'll need TWO firewire ports, so you will need to get a PCMCIA firewire card...preferrably a firewire 800 port, as the only drives that will handle uncompressed 8-bit (and one stream of uncompressed 10-bit) are firewire 800 hardware raided drives, like the G-Raid.

  • AJA products for stereoscopic workflow

    Hi,
Does anyone know if any of the AJA products (Kona, Io, etc) can do dual link SDI stereoscopic output from Speedgrade?  Their products do support stereo SDI but from what I'm hearing Speedgrade doesn't support it.
I've been using Speedgrade (and Framecycler) for close to 10 years now and I've always used windows with an Nvidia SDI card. It's time I move over to mac but am worried this may not work. I spoke with an engineer at AJA who says due to Adobe this most likely will not work.
If Speedgrade no longer supports stereo workflows going forward does anyone know of another product on mac that can support dual link SDI output?
    Thank you.

We are a fairly large studio (500+ mac and linux boxes) with maybe 15 windows boxes. As a results our networks are optimized for unix style operating systems and our developement department is tailored to mac and linux for in house programming. We find drastic differences in network performance between mac and windows. We've worked with our storage vendor (Isilon) on optimizing for Windows but with such few systems we don't put too much effort into it.
Our current Speedgrade playback hardware (a GlobalStor dailies system) even though 5 years old now is still a great machine and it works well. It looks like we'll probably have to stick with it.
Having said all of this though the real reason we want to move to mac is we prefer OSX over Windows.

  • Premiere on a MAC vs PC.

Hello, I am a MAC user but I am considering moving to PC.  What are the significant differences between running Premiere on a MAC vs a PC?  Can one edit and output the same codec on either system?

    Hi Alacatemedia,
FYI:  there is a lot of missing info with regards to the questions that will help forum users to better answer your concerns or might be answered by reviewing the FAQ, Premiere product page or the forums (such format you are using now, legacy requirements and what are your requirements going forward?)
Here is the readers digest version.
In terms of significant platform differences?  where you'll see the difference is in the range of supported hardware (video cards, array controllers, audio cards, keyboard, mice.  Professional add-in cards SDI cards, frame capture, etc generally have support by the vendors and feature parity between Windows & OS/X.   If you use thunderbolt accessories, windows lags behind OS/X.  4k-6K workflows require more powerful CPU's for decoding, vendors of windows machine have more powerful machines than Apple.
In terms of codecs:  There are some differences:  pro-res are only outputtable on OS/X, quicktime on windows is 32 bit so there are output limitations on windows which are not present on OS/X as quicktime runtime is 64bit.  Windows has their WMV which isn't available on OS/X.
    Hope it helps.
