Speedgrade won't export a file, and hangs.

Hi,
I am just working on my first project in Speedgrade (a music video), which I edited in Premiere Pro and then sent to SpeedGrade. I can't play back in realtime, so I thought to export a low-res preview, however the app claims 100% rendered, though both the pause and stop buttons are still available, and if I try to use them, or quit, I just get a non-responsive pinwheel. And, of course, no rendered file has been created.
I am using a 2.3 GHz Quad i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM, and 10.8.3.
Though I do like how the tools are manipulating the image, I have suffered a lot of issues with the app. Firstly, I can't get it to use a second (external) display, which makes work rather cramped. This cramped issue is enhanced by the fact that Tab is not hiding any of the pallettes, so I am stuck with a small 4" preview. I can't play back in-app, more than a few frames at a time. I can't seem to delete a new track-layer. And finally, yea, I can't export nor quit.
I tried deleting the User_Settings.xml, as that appears to be the only preference document, but this had no effect whatsoever.
Any thoughts? I assume that the app does function for most people.
Cheers,
T

Hi Bart,
you nailed it.
The 2nd monitor thing was diabolically difficult. I was so surprised to find that SG is not a new package, but simply something which has been developed - it would appear - in the dark. Though its image processing is very good, the difference in the way that it is written as compared to other Adobe components, is embarrassing. The second monitor thing is automatic, as far as I can tell, in both Prelude and Premiere. At least I didnt have to set anything up, it just happened. Whereas this took over a week for me to figure out, and only because you explained it.
And the export also is confusing. Simply by changing it to one of the presets of ProRes, I got an exported file.
The workflow is still infinitely better than working purely in Final Cut Express - the way I have been working for the past 5 years. Much more intuitive for a 'native' photoshop person.
Thanks,
T

  • New Quicktime 7.6.6 (1671) won't export WAV files

HELP! - New Quicktime 7.6.6 (1671) won't export WAV files. I just did the automatic upgrade to the new version of Quicktime and now I can't export WAV files from a CAF file. The original .CAF file plays perfectly but when I attempt to export it the exported file is corrupted and won't play. I have another computer with the previous version of Quicktime and it exports the same file flawlessly. Anyone know what's going on with the new version? THANKS!

+Error writing to the file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.Resources\nb.lproj\iTunesMiniPlayerLocalized.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory.+
More often than not, that sort of message indicates file damage rather than a privileges issue on the file.
If you've got Windows XP, try doing a chkdsk over your C drive, as per:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
If you've got Vista, try the following procedure. Go "Start > Computer". Right-click on "Local Disk C:" and select "properties". Click the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check now" button in the "Error correction" section.
Do the disk checks find/repair any damage? If so, does an install go through properly afterwards?

You don't even say what platform you are on, or any other details that may help others assist you.
If you are on a Mac, try opening your file in GraphicConverter (they have a demo version) if that doesn't open it, nothing will, in my experience.
I assume you have tried Adobe Illustrator already to recover.
You may also have a JPEG of your complete file (flattened) in Bridge Cache.
On the Mac you'd find it in your User ~Library (NOT the Root Library ):
    Users > yourname > Library > Caches > Adobe > Bridge CS6 > Cache > 1024 > jpg(fileID)number Filename.psd.jpg
The user ~Library is hidden, but you can make it visible for an moment or two.  Ask Apple if you don't know how.
    I don't do Windows.

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

  • How to export HD files and play them on Western Digital HD Media PLayer?

    Hi Folks,
I'd need your help here. I shoot HD video in AVCHD with Canon HF200.
My goal is to be able to export my edited footage with minimum quality loss and be able to play it on the well known Western Digital HD Media Player:
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=735
The player supports the following formats for video:
    Video - AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS, WMV9
    Here is what I do:
    1. I convert the avchd files into .avi using  Cineform Prospect HD.
    2. Then I import and edit the footage in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3
    3. Finally I export the edited footage using the ' BD-h.264 ' codec in the 'Adobe Media Encoder'
    4. I end up with two files after the export: .M4V file (video) and .WAV file (sound).
The WD HD Media Player plays 'black' screen while displaying a message 'no audio'.
I guess the exported file is not fully supported by the WD player,
Any ideas? How can I combine the two files into one and play it on the WD player?
Maybe I'm not exporting it correctly?
Please share your experience and help me out.
    Thanks

Let me give you an optimum example of my last HD to DVD timing.  The video was shot with two cameras under good lighting conditions and there was very little color correction required and only a few special effects.  The finished video was 39 minutes (1.35 GB).  The AME encoding time on my 8 core (2.33 GHz) with a really fast RAID 0 array was 36 minutes 48 seconds!  If you start adding in a lot of color correction and lots of other effects encoding time does increase significantly. I am convinced that the DVD was of much better quality that had we shot it in SD.  I have had problem shoots (lighting) that required vast amount of color correction etc. that required many hours of MPEG2 DVD encoding.
Incidentlly I do not export from Premiere (which uses the new copy of the Project on your C:drive), I close Premiere and open AME and use the much faster true project file on my RAID 0 array.

  • Export dump file and log file  name as sysdate in script

    Hi to All,
Can anybody help me to give logical backup export dump file namd log file name is as contain sysdate in its name so that we can Uniquelly identified it.
    Regards
    DXB_DBA

On windows it gets a bit hairy as there really is no clean and nice way of doing it.There are a couple of options.
    1. If you can rely on dateformat not changing, you can use a static substring expression. For example, the following might work w/ finnish locale echo %date:~3,2%%date:~6,2%%date:~9,4%Similarly, when you know the dateformat you can tokenize the output of 'date /t' and discard the tokens you don't want.
    2. You can set dateformat to your liking and then just use %date% in your script
    3. You can run a "SELECT to_char(sysdate,..." into a file and then read that file in your script.
    4. Simon Sheppard also has a solution you could use as a basis. I have a slight issue with the approach, but that could just be me.
    5. Use gnuwin32 or similar ;)
Also note that %date% env var is set automatically from w2k onwards, so some of the solutions might not work w/ older versions.

  • Export RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto

    Hi all,
My Canon EOS 5D makes JPEG+RAW at the same time, which is great. Normally I do not need the RAW files, I work with JPEG in iPhoto 6 (OS X 10.4.11). I only want to keep the RAW-files as "negative". With Automator I want to export the RAW-files automatically to a separate folder which I will then backup to a external HD.
    Automator should do the following:
    1. Copy all RAW-files (extension is .CR2) to a folder on my HD.
    2. Delete al RAW-files and its thumbnails from iPhoto
I have done some tests with Automator, but I did not succeed. Can some body help me?

  • I am trying to export a file and/or an album from Elements 11 to a CD.  Help!

I have been trying to export an album and or a file from Photoshop Elements 11 to a CD and I keep getting the message, "looking for missing file"  I have no idea what missing file is being searched for.
Also, I have down loaded a video from my camera into Elements 11, but am unable to open it there.  It asks for a download of apple quicktime, which I did, but still no go.

    Hi,
Please check Find > All Missing files and delete any missing files in your catalog. Alternatively, you may also choose to reconnect these if you know their location.
As of the video part,  please install Quicktime Player if not already and then check.
    Thanks

  • LR 2.5 won't export TIFF files with LZW or ZIP compression??

I've just updated to LR2.5 and CR5.5, I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 on an AMD x2 64 bit pc.
LR worked fine until 2.4 came along and hijacked all my auto play settings. Adobe finally releases 2.5 and now I find if I export TIFF files from a Nikon D700 NEF all I get is a black box the same size as the image??? If I turn LZW or ZIP compression off and export uncompressed the export works again. JPEG also exports ok.
Anyone else getting this? Have you found out what's causing it?
    James.

    Thanks for the feedback Jao,
I just tried across the whole range of TIFF options and the only files that don't give me a black file are 8bit and 16 bit with no compression. LZW and ZIP both stuff up
Might try a complete uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes things. These sorts of things only happen when you are in a rush to get lots of work done!

  • IPhoto won't export cropped iPad and iPhone screen shots

I started a thread for this thinking it was affecting my whole iPhoto library, when I export a cropped image I get the original. I thought I'd solved it by rebuilding my library, then realized the issue was only manifesting with iPad screen shots. I tested it on iPhone screen shots too, same issue. Photos taken with any camera, even the iPad camera are fine, I can crop and export those. Any iOS screen shot refuses to export a cropped version. I tried all the different choices for "kind" in "export."
Is this a new feature? You have to be sure to crop a screen shot on the iPad or iPhone before you sync to iPhoto?
    Barbara
Mac mini 2011, Mavericks 10.9.2, iPhoto 9.5.1, iPad Air iOS 7.0.6, iPhone 5S iOS 7.0.6

What format is the external drive the Library sits on?
Rather than trying to move libraries try repair the existing one:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • When downloading a large PDF file, firefox stops after some of file and hangs up. Only way out is to close browser or power down. Internet explorer will complete download of same PDF file.

For example, go to irs.gov and try to download 1040 instructions as a PDF file. Firefox hangs up after part of the file is downloaded, but will not complete the download. The only way out is to close the browser (Firefox). Sometimes the only way out is to power down computer and reboot. I'm running Windows XP Professional. My computer has plenty of memory and disc space, so that is not the problem. When I use Internet Explorer (UGH!) it takes a while, but the very same pdf file will completely download.

  • IMovie won't export "missing media" and now won't import archived footage either?

    Hello,
I made a movie in iMovie 10.0.3, and tried to export it to "file". It came up fine in the Theatre, but when I exported it to "file" a message about "missing media" came up, and when I tried to play it (tried to burn it to DVD), a further message about "quicktime not recognising the format" came up. It was saved as an mp4 file. I thought I would try and delete all the original footage and reimport it from the external HDD (where it was saved as archived footage), however when I plug the HDD in, the previously imported clips don't come up. I've emptied the trash to try and help (clutching at straws!), and was wondering if anyone could offer advice on how to a. export the movie successfully or b. reimport the clips so I can make the movie again (long and tedious, but possibly the only way?).
    Thanks in advance.
ps this is my first time posting, so please be gentle with a newbie!

Found the solution myself! All I needed to do was turn off the Time Machine. I have no idea why it does that. Finally, I can use iMovie again! Apple should really fix that though.

  • Export large files and maintaining high dpi

My export default is set to 300 dpi, but it continually exports at 250 dpi -- how can I fix this?  I have very large files, but sometimes when I upload to Photoshop they show at 72 dpi.  Something is off.

Where do you set the export default? There is no Export default, afaik. You can define export presets, to pick from. Which export prset will be applied, depends on how you export.
If you export using the Media Browser - drag from the Aperture window, the Preview will be exported.
If you export an Image Version (File -> Export -> Version), the selected Export preset (in the File chooser) will be used.
If you export a Master (File -> Export -> Master),no export peresets apply, the original master image file will be exported.
If you export to an external Editor, the settings in the Preferences -> Export apply.
So how do you export and "upload to Photoshop to get so surprising results?

  • Quicktime won't export my file without a watermark

I am trying to convert a wmv file into swf. I have flash and the flash video utility. But I can't bring a wmv file into flash; it has to be converted to something else first. I upgraded to Quicktime Pro today in order to do this part of it, but when I try to export it to a .mov file, I get a message from a completely different program saying I have to purchase the 'flip4mac player' before Quicktime will export without the watermark. Does quicktime not open wmv files? Why is this other program getting involved?
thanks for any help. I hate to have to buy two programs just to do a conversion.

    http://flip4mac.com
You must purchase one of the upgrades to export to WMP formats. Right now you're using the "trial" version of the third party component.
