Speedgrade won't force quit.  Cannot restart my computer

So I opened Speedgrade CS6 and it crashed and won't force quit.  I cannot see the work area but the icon is open in the dock and I cannot open any other Speedgrade project or even restart my computer for that matter.  It's just frozen there.
Anyone else had this problem before?  Any fixes or solutions?
Thanks!

When you uninstall firefox, do you go to the control panel and in C:/ProgramFiles/(delete mozilla firefox)? Or only one of the two options?Try.

  • Hi! I have had my macbookpro for less than two weeks today. About an hour ago I opened up Safari only to have a pop up that says "Congratulations you are at winner.." etc.  I have tried force quitting and restarting my computer but to no avail. Help!

    Hello!
I have had my Macbook Pro for less than 2 weeks.  About an hour ago I turned it on and clicked on Safari.  A pop up appeared...the usual "Congratulations! You are the Winner of.." etc etc.  I have not downloaded anything from an unreliable source.  I have quite honestly turned on the computer less than 10 times since getting it.  The pop up prevents me from browsing the internet.
Please help! I did not think I would run into problems with the laptop so soon.
    Thank you.

The Lion OS has a new feature that returns you to a "previous state" the next time an application is opened.
You can stop this behavior by holding down the option key when quiting an app or hold down the shift key when you launch an app.

That's actually bad. Peruse Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and seriously consider starting over.

  • Itunes won't open, won't force quit, won't anything

This problem started about a month ago and now it's critical.
When I click the itunes icon, it bounces and then freezes. itunes won't open. It also won't force quit. I can't shut down because, it says, itunes won't quit. I have to hold down the power button 7 seconds to shut down and then restart. My IT guy at work (who is a Mac person) showed me how to repair permissions and the first half dozen or so times this happened, that worked. Now it won't. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. I've tried reinstalling and repairing permissions. I've rebooted and repaired and reinstalled.
This is the kind of thing I switched from PCs to get away with.
Does anyone have any ideas? I really need to be able to use itunes.
    Thanks,
    Teresa

Here are some basic to try in turn, see if any one will help:
Ensure that you have the latest version of the OS and Quicktime and iTunes.
    1. Delete the com.apple.iTunes.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    2. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

Might be RAM related if the above tip describes what happened.
If not, and your data is not backed up, and it won't startup, read this tip:

  • My iTunes won't force quit and says it's still syncing my iPhone after hours of syncing.

My iTunes won't force quit and says it's still syncing my iPhone after hours of syncing. I had plugged in my iPhone 4S in the morning before I left for school, it synced almost completely, and then it got stuck on "Finishing Sync". I pulled my iPhone out because I had to leave to go to school, and iTunes is still stuck on "Finishing Sync". I tried force quitting and restarting but it's of no use. Now I can't use iTunes at all.

Scratch that, I TRIED to shut down but I guess iTunes overrided it because it still thinks it's syncing

  • PS CS3 Crashes and Won't Force Quit

Using Mac OS X 10.5.2 and latest PS. PS crashes and won't force quit. I have to reboot. Then after opening PS again and barely start editing a file (nothing else is running and I have 4GB ram) PS crashes again.
Also the reset password function on the Adobe site refuses to work and I can't get any support. This is getting really frustrating.

I assume you trashed your preferences? Look in your user Library/Preferences folder and delete your com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file where your preferences are stored. Other than that, I have no clue. Did you try editing different files to see if it could be just that one file giving you problems? I have been using PS CS3 for the past three days, and I have noticed a lot of instability which I didn't have with PS 7. Of course, new machine, new programs, I was expecting a few glitches, but hopefully the dust will settle soon and my workflow will become stable again.

  • Iphoto frozen, won't force quit - but pretends to!

Iphoto has simply frozen, won't force quit and hides until I call up all open windows by squeezing the mouse buttons - it shows as a window with a blue highlight all around.  Not sure whats happened.  Tried connecting camera and importing, but wont open - still stays hidden from view.  Also tried synching Iphone but same happens.  Small dot shows Iphoto as open, but nowhere to be seen until I squeeze the mouse - then the highlighted window pops up, but doesn;t allow me to do anything and disappears as soon as I let go of the ouse buttons. Help please....

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

  • Logout has timed out, can't restart, program won't force quit

I have had a recurring problem with this, various programs will freeze but I can't force quit them, I also can't restart or shutdown due to the program that won't quit.

I'm having similar problems - various times, and there is no pattern, I get the spinning beachball, which never loads what it's supposed to. I cannot force quit, I can move my cursor, and can sometimes switch to a different application while that beachball is spinning on the other app. I've done Disk Repair several times and been told that "no repairs were necessary." This is the FIRST time I"ve ever ever had problems with this computer since I've owned it - in 7 or 8 years. Any ideas?

  • Safari hangs and won't force quit

I tried searching for this but the problem prevented that.
After repairing my permissions yesterday, Safari won't let me do certain things like right-clicking an image or goto various sites or let my use tabbed browsing. I just get stuck with the spinning beachball.
If I try to force quit Safari just disappears from the force quit menu while still existing in the Dock and in the background. I tried running top to get the process id and kill it but I couldn't find Safari in there.
I really need some help on this as I have to hand in an assignment online on monday.
    Anyone got some ideas?

  • Mail won't quit, also won't force quit

    Following problem:
Mail does not hang, but also won't quit. The quit menu item is even greyed out. The Mail program prevents a restart (dialog after timout saying Mail canceled the restart) and also will not force quit. I've tried force quiting from the context menu on the dock, and also from the force quit dialog in the apple menu.
The only way to get shut down is to quit the WindowServer process from within the Activity Monitor, which causes a sort of "log out" to occur, meaning that I end up in the login screen. From here I can shut down or restart normally.
My OS is up to date with all patches. The problem persists (in fact I would say its only about 3 weeks old) and happens quite regularly (ca. 5 times/week.)
    dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I did this yesterday...with same problems. Create a new user in system pref-accounts. Make sure you enable fast user switching and give it admin access. Then, switch over to new account (top right corner of menu bar)
In the new account, set up a new mail account with your info. Your mail should come back automatically. Then, you'll need to put the mail plist file that's in your user folder on a thumb drive. Go back to your main user account and replace that file in the same area. THEN, open mail and see if it fixes it. It did for me after pulling my hair out for 24 hours...
