Speeding up a tracking shot, jerky afterwards?

I have a couple of tracking shots of an architectural wall that I would like to speed up.  Wasn't pushing the dolly fast enough. I have tried to increase the speed from 100% to 115% (from the Clips drop down menu not as a time remapping effect - don't need any keyframes) and even after rendering it out the tracking shot has a noticeable stutter that's not there when I view the speed at 100%
Using Mac 10.6.8 CS Premier 5 and like i say I notice this even after I render
This seems like it should be an easy task I have search through all the tutorials to see what I must be missing.  Any insights or advice when speeding up a clip?
Thanks, jeff

Thanks Jim, I truly appreciate the quick response.  I knew it was staring me in the face
Thank you,

  • Want help speeding up a track on garageband

Need help speeding up a track. I have an audition song I need to be at 1 min. and I need to speed it up just a bit to fit it all in.  Can't figure it out, any help would be great!

    Mr HangTime,
I checked the tip on your website and I'm not sure if that is correct.
An imported audio file turns into an orange Audio Region. Turning on "Follow Tempo & Pitch" will analyze the audio file to create the (invisible) Transient Marker. However this enables only Tempo changes of the Audio Region BUT NOT Pitch changes. The Pitch slider is still grayed out.
Turning an orange Audio Region into a purple Audio Region will activate the Pitch Slider (not grayed out anymore) but you still can set any Pitch offset. So the turning purple thing seems to be more a cosmetic change which could lead to confusion.
The only way to utilize Pitch changes on an imported audio file is to turn it into an Apple Loop (Edit > Add to Loop Library) and then grab it from the Loop Browser. Now it is a blue Apple Loop Region with all its advantages, including Pitch changes.
Can you confirm that, or do you have different behavior on your system?
Lucylouisie, here are the steps to shorten your audition song :
Import the audio file into a new Project with an Audio Track (lets have the Tempo at 120bpm). The Audio Region is orange
Double click on the Audio Region to open the Track Editor and there, select the checkbox "Follow Tempo & Pitch". GarageBand will analyze the audio file and create (invisible) Transient Markers which make the following magic possible. Remember, the Pitch slider is grayed out and applying a Pitch offset to the (orange) audio region is not possible even if the checkbox is labeled "Follow Tempo & Pitch"
Let's assume your audio region is 1min and 10sec long. You can see that on the Time Ruler (you have to set it to display Absolute Time to show the time and not the bar:beat).
Now set the LCD Display to "Project" and click on the Tempo which opens a vertical Tempo Slider.
This is the important part: When moving the Tempo slider up, the Audio Region's length stays the same on the Track Lane but the Time Ruler will stretch to the right. Adjust the slider so the 1min mark on the Time Ruler aligns with the end of your Audio Region.
What happened: you speeded up the playback  Tempo of your Project and with it the playback Tempo of your Audio Region (remember, "Follow Tempo") so it lasts exactly 1min instead of 1min 10 sec.
It sounds more complicated than it actually is. Just play around with it and always keep the relationship between playback tempo and Region length in mind. The procedure I just described also helps you to visualize the concept to better wrap your head around that it.(Just for fun, switch the TIme Ruler, to display Musical time, bar:beats and see what is fixed and what is chaining now).
On a side note, when chaining the playback speed of an audio file, there are two scenarios:
Scenario A - The change in length changes also the pitch. This is the traditional way with tape machines or using a vinyl record on a turn table).
Scenario B - The change in length does not affect the pitch which requires additional pitch compensation. GarageBand uses this method and that is what you want in your case: Playing back your audio clip to make it shorter without ending up with a mickey mouse effect of your audio file by transposing it (pitch change).
    Hope that helps

  • Tracking shot on photo with Adobe Premiere Elements 7 ?

    Hi everybody !
I won't be long : is it possible to make tracking shots on fixed images with Adobe Premiere Elements 7 ?
Examples of what I mean : http://tv.adobe.com/fr/watch/didacticiels-sur-premiere-elements-10/transformez-vos-photos- en-squences-amusantes/ with Adobe Premiere Elements 10 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzeFQjG4hDo with Pinnacle Studio 14.
    Thanks a lot !

As Steve G. says, yes, and for most earlier versions of PrE. I recommend his great Basic Keyframing Series on Muvipix.com: http://muvipix.com/products.php?searchphrase=basic+keyframing&btn.x=19&btn.y=9
Keyframing can be applied to most Effects, whether Fixed, or applied, so it can do much more, than Pan & Zoom. The application of it is almost limitless.

  • How to slow down and speed up a track in an arrangement re remix query

Hi, I've been asked to do a house/dance remix for a track where the client wants the track to start at a typical dance bpm and then slow down to the original track tempo 2 minutes in, then speed back up to the dance tempo...here's an example...around 1.20 mins is where you'll see this happening...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe3xLTQrvYM
How do I do this in Logic 9? I'm clueless...

you can set tempos in the Tempo List which is under the Options menu. In That window there is another options menu where the tempo operations window lives. You can set locators between which you can do tempo fades up or down.

  • Tracking shots that need to be re-rendered

    Hi guys
Been doing some jobs on Color and finding my way around. I normally work on DS or Film Master, so there are some questions.
    1. If I corrected some shots and rendered them, timeline goes green, all well. Now I make a change to the grade, timeline remains green..mmmm, is there a way to get Color to revert the clip to unrendered automatically.
    2. I can't get consistent results tracking user shapes and using them in Secondaries...any step by step help?

    Jpo,
You are right, it doesn,t say original format ( it's there but you can not apply it).
I did my project in hdv 720 50p (from fcp) and rendered it out using apple Pro Res 422 HQ.
    Those files aren't that big as 8 bit-uncompressed 4 2 2.
Everything still looked nice. I do not have any experience in color with full HD but as color is a 1.0 release we just have to wait I guess.
    Your ideas on this?

  • Apple Mouse Slow - Anyway to speed up the tracking?

I've been using a Mighty Mouse for a while which is fine, but one thing that annoys me is that its quite slow tracking across the screen with the tracking on FULL fastest..
I have a nice small nifty PC mouse, which on a Windows machine is very nifty and quick, and its USB but when plugged into the Mac, it again becomes quite sluggish..
As the mouse is the main interaction between me and the computer, is there any other setting in order to speed this up?
I have this quite fast on an XP PC, and enhanced pointer position on, and its quite nifty getting alot of things done, and moved around.
I would love to use this PC mouse (I know, not ideal) with my MBP for the best of both worlds. I did try a Magic Mouse which looks good, but it felt the same.
I just wanted to know if there was

  • Enabling flex time speeds up my track

    Hi guys,
I have this problem with some frequency.  I enable the purple "Flex time" button for a track, and the track instantly slows down.  Here's a screenshot that sort of shows what happens:
As you can see, just clicking that purple button slows the track considerably.  I want to start editing with the track at the existing speed.
There are no flex markers in the track
I've tried Edit->Tempo->Remove Tempo Information From Audio File and it had no effect on the behavior

    Hi Thi Thach,
You're having the same problem as me. You'll be happy to know that I solved my problem.
(Albeit at the expense of keeping my Mac user profile linked to my Apple ID)
The shutdown delay is due to a file called:
    "com.apple.coreservices.appleid.authentication.plist"
It is located in the folder:
    "/System/Library/LaunchAgents/"
You have to trash that file (the OS will ask you for the admin password) and then restart the system. After that, all shutdowns will become very fast as there will be no 20-second delay.
This file is responsible for linking your user profile on the Mac with your Apple ID. Apple gives you the option of linking them so that if you forget your login password on the Mac, you can reset it by using your Apple ID.
Once you trash that file and restart the system, if you go to "Users & Groups" under "System Preferences" and look at your user page, you will find that the system forgot your Apple ID that you associated with your user profile. Instead, next to where it says "Apple ID" on your user page, you'll find a button called "Set". If you set it again to your Apple ID, the shutdown delay will come back.
If it's important for you to keep your Mac user profile and your Apple ID linked, then don't trash the file and just live with the shutdown delay.
Of course, this process is fully reversible: You can always return the file where it belongs and restart and you'll be right back where you started.

  • Can i change the speed of the track?

I got one track that instrumental and other one is vocal..and i hope someone can teach me how to change the speed of the vocal in garageband.thanks!

"in every track you have the option to check or uncheck the 'follow tempo and pitch' option"
This does not appear anywhere in the interface.
"you have to change the region's color to purple first)."
The suggested (obscure) key combo does nothing.
If you delete all tracks and then drag a wave file from Finder into your project, GarageBand messes up both the playback speed and pitch. Furthermore, the so-called track "track info" on the right makes no sense. It always displays "Real Instrument" and "Master Track", even when this is not the type of track you're working with.

  • Stabilizing a dolly/tracking shot

    Hi,
I have a shot I filmed in a studio environment - the camera was on a skateboard tracking into the action like so:
The problem is that the movement bumps at several points. I've tried the standard stabilize tracker (position/rotation), using the base of the chairs as tracking points - it stabilizes the image a bit but it also ends up zooming into the left side chair. Is there a particular technique to stabilizing such a shot except manually adjusting for each bump?
    Thanks,
    David

Basically a stabilize does exactly that, it removes all movement from the shot, by shifting the frame in the opposite direction.
So by doing a stabilize on your shot you'd end up with a static image (if the stabilize worked perfectly).  Essentially what you need to do is stabilize the shot to remove all the jitter and movement, then track the shot and match the move back on.
This would (in an ideal track situation) give you the same result as you started with, however your camera moves is now animated with the tracking data.  You just need to go into the keyframes and either smooth out or find the keyframes with the bump and move them about to elimate the shake.
This would work best normally if this was only a pan, or a pan and zoom.  However since yours is a tilt as well then it makes it alot more tricky as your dealing with 4 point tracks + the perspective shift.
    - Hope that makes sense am not always very good at explaining myself.
** A solution for your shot which i'd try first tho is this:
Your shot is timelapse right, and since the jolt is only on 1 or two frames, why not go in and adjust those couple of frames individually?  Shift them up down a little bit to compensate for the bump on just those frames.
Without trying it myself, i can't say for certain whether it would def work but worth trying, its easier than stabilizing then tracking the move back on

  • Speeding up SINGLE tracks.

    Hey,
I'm fairly new to garage band and i have been trying to mix some songs from iTunes. My question is IS THERE A WAY TO SPEED UP OR SLOW DOWN SINGLE TRACKS? Because the two tracks i am trying to mix are out of sync with each oter so IS THERE A WAY TO CHANGE THE TEMPO OF ONE TRACK WITHOUT AFFECTING THE OTHER?
    Thanks!

GB doesnt do this. heres a solution:
    download free Audacity softo
    import track into Audacity
    Use 'tempo change' function
    import back into GB
however, for beat matching, this may prove more frustrating than its worth, as will probably require lots of experiment.
If you are serious about mixing, beat matching in real time, Ableton live might be a better solution, but a lil pricey.

  • Speeding up a track

I've pretty much finished a very short track consisting of mainly real instruments (guitars, bass and piano and toy piano are real, the rest is MIDI). It's mixed as well and sounding pretty good.
The client has asked me to speed it up!
That's easy with MIDI but not the other tracks.
Is there a way to import the track into a new Logic session (or Waveburner) and speed up the 2 Mix a bit and will it sound OK?
Or ... a way to speed up the audio tracks within the original Logic session?
    Thank you in Advance.
    Cheers
    Dee

You can speed audio tracks up in the original session without messing up the sound, provided that you aren't changing the tempo by too much. To do this, first change the song's tempo as desired. Then, select the region you want to speed up, and highlight a cycle region (in the bar ruler) that is equivalent in length to the musical length of the region (i.e. if the region is four bars long, create a four bar cycle). Then, in the arrange window's local menu, click Audio>Adjust Region Length to Locators. That should do it. I don't think there's away to do all the audio regions at once, unfortunately.

  • How do I change the speed of a track (not simply change tempo, but in a way that affects pitch)?

I'd like to be able to (essentially) duplicate the function of this Audacity feature:
    Change Speed - Audacity Wiki
In Audacity, when I use "Change Speed," it modifies the recording in a fashion similar to playing a tape slower or faster than its normal speed (where pitch is shifted alongside the speed). Audition seems to have some tools that modify both pitch and time at once - the closest I've found to what I want to accomplish is the "Stretch and Pitch" tool, with Stretch and Pitch Shift locked - but the end result is markedly worse (or at least notably different) than what I get from Audacity.
The goal with this is to be able to put together a lesson on the interrelationship between frequency, pitch, and time, and the problem I have is that there doesn't seem to be a simple, one-step solution in Audition to modify an audio clip in this most basic of manners. I'm concerned that I may simply be missing where this feature might be, since it seems baffling that this operation wouldn't actually be there. Any help is appreciated - thanks!

Manipulating the sample rate was exactly it. Boy, I'm a dope. That's literally a frequency control.
Using the Stretch and Pitch effect simply gives a distorted sample - for example, if I had an audio recording of a VO that was sped up (Alvin-and-the-Chipmunks-style) and wanted to convert it back to its original pitch and duration, using that tool would get me the right length but not a very clear pitch. The sample rate's exactly what I want to control here, though, since that is basically a two-step version of what I was looking for. Thanks for the pointer.

  • The speed of downloading tracks slows from 500 kb / s to 3 kb / s

  • Loosing quality and gaining pitch on a sample the same speed as my track???

    Hi there
I put a 140 BPM sample into my track of the same tempo and the pitch has increased and i am loosing quality,  im using logic 8 and was wondering if there is a setting to change this??
Thanks and hope 2 hear from you soon.
    Francis

Hey yeh i tried it on a fresh track and it still sounds the same. follow tempo is off. Im using logic 8 so i dont think i can use flex time. and cant seem to find Varispeed. However i treid the apple loops utility and that seemed to work, takes abit longer than just dragging it in but it will do the trick.
    Thank you

  • Clean up speed changes in a zoom/track

    Hi again,
I am just cleaning up some final issues on my edit and there is one tracking shot that has some slight speed change (bit jumpy) in it. I was wondering if I can smooth the speed with a filter or by using keyframe editor in motion?
I am pretty new to Motion, so please forgive me.
    Many Thanks

Does it have to do with this?
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3686148?tstart=0
If all you want to do is smooth out bad camera work, use the Smooth Behavior in Motion. Make sure you have Optical Flow selected.
    Have fun
