Speeding up clip

Help! When I speed up a clip, the block is still on the timeline but the thumbnail picture is gone. When I watch the movie on the main viewer window the clip is missing altogether.

Try rendering the clip at a speed that you know will play, then import it and speed it up again...repeat as necessary.

How Can I set my speed of clip to 0%?
    I can't do that. A minimum value is: 1.00

So I HAVE TO do this in that specific way? I can't normally set a "0%" value of speed curve?

Cut it there and do a frame hold or a screen grab.
But how I have to do a frame hold if I can't set speed of one frame to 0%
    Ann Bens wrote:
Use a time remapping freeze frame instead if you want 0 speed.
What a rubbish did you say? I am in Time remapping freeze menu and IN THIS MENU we can't set a value to 0%. A value: 1.00% is a minimum.
You have to miss a screen what I paste before, so specially for you (there is even a red box):

  • Best way to change speed of clips

Hey, I want to change speed of clips, both faster and slower in one clip. What is the best way to do that preserving the quality? I am still learning FCP so my apologies, and I had a hard time finding anything on here through search.

    Jerry's right...
    Take a look at this:
    http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/SlowMo3.mov
Two frames each of FCP and Shake at 50%. Use your arrow keys to go frame by frame. First frame is normal, second is interpolated. Look at the background!!
Creative cow should have the whole tutorial online soon... I'll post back with the link when they do.
Also, for time remap -- shake's got that under control too... but for now, look at this:

  • Can't change speed on clips in timeline - get error message

In Final Cut Pro 5.1.2, when I try to change the speed of clips in the timeline I get the error message "Unable to complete command. A conflict occurred during a trim operation." I have changed the speed of many clips in this project previously, but it suddenly won't do it now. I have searched for a solution but can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You could go next door and search the forum there. Or you could search for the answer here. It comes up pretty often.
When you change the speed of a clip it changes the duration of the clip, which ripples the sequence. That changes its duration. Sometimes changing the duration/clip speed will move things in the timeline. Sometimes when you try to move things in the timeline, overlapping clips or other things bump into each and prevent the sequence from rippling. This is most common cause for the error message you're seeing.

  • How to speed up clips

hi just wondering if you could tell me how to alter the speed of clips
    e.g
i would like to create a clip with something moving quite fast and then go back to normal speed in the next clip
    please could anyone help me?
    cheers

    Hi g
In iMovie'08 - Don't think it is possibly.
If Your material is on a miniDV tape. Use iMovie HD 6
    • If You hade it previuos iLife08 then You find it in Aplications/iMovie previous versions folder.
    • If not - Download it from Apple. As iLife owner You are entitled to do this.
Next see that it is updated to v. 6.0.4 (has to)
Here You can speed up or down Your clips.
iMovie'08 should have another name - it's not for more advanced editings and
DVD disks as goal. It's primary for publiching on the net.

  • Text Overlay Speeding up Clip

I have Final Cut Pro 6.0.6
Out of nowhere, after one editing project (which was a hassle in HD, but worked begrudgingly) I started a new, standard project (non-HD). when I went to overlay some text, the clip below sped up. Just the video, the audio was fine. the clip didn't shorten, just sped up within itself and then dropped frames message box came up. I left the text on, thinking it was a playback issue. after it was exported (as both iphone.m4v file and a .mov file), the clip stayed sped up.
I even exported the project without text, and attempted to import it and then lay text over the final project. it sped up again! what is causing this??
I already dumped prefs, reset, etc. I ended up having to import the project into imovie and do the text in there--which worked fine. I don't want to do that every time, what is this text issue!?

I did a search all across the internet and all I kept coming up with was "how to speed up clips" or "how to put text on your project". nothing like this. the last thing I want to do is sign up for a forum and post things.
well, when I drag a clip into the timeline to edit, FCP automatically matches to the clips settings. or, that's what it's telling me it's doing. I've edited tons of m4v files over the past few months and never came across this issue before, why would it happen now to two separate projects?
from what I understand, my settings are on DV NTSC and the file I'm editing is a Mp4 file format, which I have done plenty of times before. this is--again--only when I overlay text above any part of the clip.

  • Compressor encoded speed change clip with echo as motorboat sound

Took me two days to troubleshoot, through trial and error and process of elimination, why Compressor encoded an audio clip that had been speed changed and echo applied to it -- as rapid MOTORBOAT sound! Project is a 5.1 mix. Since STP3 won’t accept speed change clips, after I completed mix in STP I placed speed changed clips on FCP timeline below the exported STP 5.1 mix with the FCP audio tracks for that clip assigned to channels 1 & 2 for the fronts and channels 5 & 6 for the rears. The clip on 5 & 6 was duplicated and identical in every way to the clip on channels 1 & 2. Only the dupe clip on 5 & 6 did Compressor encode as motorboat. The identical clip on 1 & 2 encoded correctly. Both clips were set to play at same time since I wanted the effect to be on fronts and rears simultaneously. I could not get the motorboat sound to play back from either FCP timeline or Compressor preview window. Only after encode and burn to DVD did it show up. Why would Compressor introduce such artifacts on one of the clips and not both – if it’s going to do it at all – which it shouldn’t? Any ideas? I have other such effects throughout the project where I duped a speed changed clip with an effect applied to it and set it to play on fronts and rears simultaneously and Compressor encoded those correctly.

Well, it's a little late, but this is one of the reasons to have your startup drive cloned so you can restore it to a working state if an update, upgrade or install sends things south.

Have you tried resetting your fcp preferences

If this doesn't fix the problem, you could try sending the shot to motion.  You could aslo try changing the speed in the motion tab of the viewer.

  • Judders on speeded up clips

    Hi
When I export a short film (HDV 1080/50) I get judders on speeded up clips (120%). I have deinterlaced but this doesn't help. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance. Colin

    Hi
    I think !
That speed selected should be 25% 50% 100% 150% and in this kind of steps
    I would try 125% instead of 120%

  • Speeding Up Clips

    Hello,
I need to speed up clips but iMovie 09 is only allowing up to 2000% faster than the as shot speed of the clip. Is there anyway around this limit to speed up the clip even more (I'm guessing to around 10,000 or 20,000 of the speed as shot)?
    Thanks!

Gerald's way is the simplest to do it. If you need variable speeds, you could also try Piero's [Time Remap|http://web.mac.com/piero.fiorani/PieroFFCE_Effect/TimeRemap.html] filter.

  • Timeline shifts when I when I slow or speed a clip

How do I stop the entire timeline from shifting when I change the speed (from the Modify menu)? If I make the clip slow motion, it enlarges and every track shifts to the right. I just want a particular clip to enlarge and everything else in the timeline to stay put. Help?

In FCP 7 you can turn off the timeline rippling effect, in earlier versions you can't.
What I used to do (prior to FCP 7) was to select and copy the clip to be adjusted, move to the end of the timeline, paste the clip at the end of the timeline, adjust the speed to where I am happy, then trim the speed adjusted clip so that it is shorter than the original (by dragging the right end of the speed adjusted clip to the left), copy that and paste it back over the original clip, adjusting its duration to fit the edit.
    Hope this helps.

  • When reversing speed on clip back to 100% my sound does not change

I speed up a section of video clip to 150% but when I converted it back to 100% the sound stayed at 150%. Why is this? Also is it easy to separate sound tracks from video tracks?
Sorry I am new to FCP and have lots to learn.

    Welcome to the forum!
To separate the audio from the video, you need to unlink them (Command L).

  • Adjusting speed of clips

    Just a quick question,
If I adjust the decrease the speed of a clip on a timeline, it pushes all the footage after it forward.
This is a bit of a pain when editing to music as it knocks everything out of sync.
The method I use is to copy the clip to another timeline, adjust the speed then bring the clip back into the sequence.
I was wondering if anybody knew a quicker way to do this on the one timeline?
    Thanks

That's good... or do the speed change in the viewer and then use the replace edit - F11 to drop it on the same space as the original clip.
Or -- just do it at the END of the sequence.
Either way it can sometimes be a pain. If I'm trying to do these after I've already edited, I like the viewer technique.

  • Playback is choppy / slow while speeding up clip anything above 200%

Coming from using Final Cut Pro X for a while, ive just bought myself a new laptop.
    Basic Specs are:
    Intel i7 3840QM 2.8ghz with 3.8ghz turbo
    32GB Ram 1600mhz
    1TB SATA 7200rpm in Raid 0
    2GB GeForce GTX680M
Long story short, ive been a long time PC fan my whole life although using the mac only for video editing and being a basic macbook pro 13" with final cut pro x seems to outperform my newly acquired PC laptop.
I bought this laptop with the intentions to move my video editing platform back to a PC state and with the new Premiere cs6.
everything is smooth and all that but the same issue i remembered about premiere back when i wanted to try it out in cs3 time. the playback for previewing video is slow and choppy.
i have to always "render" my video just to preview it smoothly which is very time consuming. I always thought because back in the day my laptop wasnt as good as my new one now so that was the issue and moved over to my mac which was great for video editing only.
but that mac has basic specs compared to my new laptop and still the preview is flawless and smooth with LIVE video previewing. i mean i can do speed duration changes of 10% slow down all the way to 1000% speed ups and watch my video that same instant after.
but with premiere if i do anything speed changes of more then 200% original frame time it plays fine for 2 seconds at that accelerated speed then gets choppy and slow.
I even changed the playback resolution to 1/4 quality and i get the same issue.
i wouldnt mind waiting for the render so i can see that smooth playback and determine whether i like it or not except when rendering my clips from my gopro which is recording at 60fps 1080 it takes over 15 minutes.
This has always seemed to be an issue with premiere for me and am wondering if there is something i am missing here..
anyone point me to the right direction?
im not hating on PC or adobe at all, i love these two platforms in every other way but when it comes to this editing all i hear is good things about them but when i go to use them for myself its extremely frustrating.
P.S. yes i have set my GPU to use the mercury GPU accelerated mode which did minimal difference with playback smoothness.

I was having this issue last night while going through a bunch of 1080p 60fps footage I took yesterday with my Hero3 Black. I wasn't doing any speeding up or down, just previewing footage to cut sections out. It would play back fine for 6 seconds, then get choppy which got worse the longer I let it play. It played fine for 6 seconds after each pause and play.
I used Cineform as mentioned to convert the files which are now huge but play back without trouble. A 13 minute 2.8GB file became 25GB.
Hopefully this issue gets fixed so I don't have to go through all that.

  • Adobe after Effects CC Automatically Speeds up Clips/Audio

My Adobe After Effects CC Automatically Speeds Up Any Clip/Audio I drag Into It How Can I Fix This?

Without details I have no idea what's going on. It is not normal, but I don't know anything about your experience level, your system, your project, the type of audio file or anything else about your project. You might have just as well asked "Why is watermelon?"

  • Speed up clip and matte

    hi
what is the practice for speeding up a clip down the tree after Ive spent ages rotoing?
I would normally use the retime in the file in - but in this case have had to do loads of roto - and now think the elements are gonna need speeding up by about 50 - 100 % more - but dont want to ruin all the roto timing.
I suppose i could render out the footage with the alpha then reimport - but then will lose any fine control later - and dont want to do that.
I presume it is a timex expression...? had alook in the manual but cant understand it.
Have been using Nuke lately and it has arealy nifty retime node you can drop anywhere in the tree... hping there something similar in my god old shake.

Just to be clear: You'll need to change the speed setting in FileIn by the
    same amount as in Rotoshape.
Note that, if you change the speed setting in FileIn back to 1 or "none",
it will go back to the original speed. (It’s like Final Cut)
The speed adjustment of RotoShape, however, is cumulative.
If you crank it up by a factor of 4, you'll need to crank it down by 0.25
in order get back to original speed.
