Speeding up Multiclip playback?

Hi, thanks in advance for advice you may have!
Playing Multiclips on 2 different Macs. Only 2 camera. 1080p (1920) ProRes 422 HQ.
On 1 system, set to RT Dynamic, Dynamic, Unlimited, but still get preview render green line, although seq settings are the same. Even when not dropping as multiclip.
On other (laptop) stops every 10 seconds with the same specs.
Is there any way to allow this to play more smoothly and not require rendering?
Thanks!

RT playback is almost always determined by your disk throughput. An esata RAID 0 should give you no problems. What are you using?
fwiw, unless your footage started out as 2K or Film, using ProRes HQ is overkill. If you started with HDV, ProResLT would work just fine at a fraction of the hard drive throughput requirements.

  • Optimizing clips for multiclip playback

I'm stretching the limits of my hardware and attempting a 9-camera multiclip edit (in the multiclip 9-up view).
    Original footage is [email protected]
I've downmixed audio to stereo at 48KHz/24bit
The format of my final edit is TBD but meanwhile to create an EDL I'm happy to work in clip sizes that will allow the 3x3 multiclip playback (assuming it's possible on my hardware)
I'm sure there are many ways of approaching this but I have a relatively straightforward question:
What's the best clip format to use for optimal multiclip playback speed (I dont need audio)?
Forget about output format ... I just need to be able to see the individual clips in the multiclip view at, say a certain minimum resolution (remember my max of 640x480 anyway) and playback in realtime for editing.
I suspect I may also need some creativity here, eg: some clips internal; some external?

bogiesan: Well, without going into great details I need multiclip enough that I just spent several days trying to work out how to do it ... and it seems to be working with my humble ("toy") setup.
Regarding toys: all our machines will be toys next year.
The setup: (specs and requirements as above) ... I converted all clips to *Photo JPEG* at 320x240 resulting in file sizes about twice the original but a reasonable data rate (about 700K/s <= FW400 can easily deal with this) and moderate decode requirements. The encode was also pretty efficient with Compressor. I made the 9UP multiclip and put it in a _sequence set to NTSC DV (3:2)_ at 29.97fps. Everything plays smoothly in RT and I can do normal RT multiclip editing. Finally!
I couldn't get any other setup to work: MPEG1; certainly not DV due to data (and decode?) rate; in a rash move I even tried uncompressed 8-bit splitting files across the external FW400 and internal SATA but it couldn't deal (only talking 320x240).
Any comments before I put this to bed?

  • Multiclip playback settings

I've run into a new issue (for me anyway) with multiclip editing. I'm working with a two-angle multiclip, editing in real time, and everything has been working fine. I walked away from the project, came back later, and suddenly the multiclip angles aren't showing up in the viewer anymore. It only displays the active angle during playback, then shows the multiclip angles when play is paused, or during scrubbing. To my knowledge, I didn't change any settings. Multiclip playback is enabled in the timeline, Playhead sync is set to open...What am I missing?

All I can suggest is that you close the project, relaunch FCP, and go through the multi setup one more time, step by step.

  • No Multiclip Playback option in RT Playback

Sorry to ask yet another multiclip question, but this is quick. I made a multiclip sequence, then dropped the clip into the sequence. When paused, the viewer shows all 4 videos and the canvas shows the one angle selected. But when I play the viewer, it no longer shows the four angles and instead only shows teh highlighted one full screen. I have open sync selected, BUT here's the catch, under the RT dropdown menu, I only have "Play Base Layer Only," "Use Playback Setting," and "Full Quality." I don't have a Multiclip Playback option. Now this isn't a standard multiclip sequence as I used Studio X's suggestion to make a sequence to match the clip settings. Do I need to have a standard, NTSC, HDV, DVCPRO, ect. sequence in order to view a multiclip live? I tried doing a multiclip with 4 DVCPRO HD files, but I didn't do the research ahead of time and my firewire 800 drive cannot supply nearly enough bandwidth to view all four at once.
I hope this is clear enough and thanks,
    -Brian

To Studio X- well there was one render file for the project, so I deleted that, but no luck. I also tried making another multicam sequence, and again while the sequence comes out the format of the clips, it still doesn't give a Multiclip Playback option, and I haven't, nor does it want me, to do a render on that sequence.
To loyed256- I'm working off of a G-drive mini via Firewire 800 and that stutters several seconds into the DVCPRO multiclip. What I've done now is gone back to the original 640x360 files, pulled them into FCP, gotten the "these are not optimized for final cut" window, clicked OK, then made those .movs. into a 640x360 multiclip sequence. I just though about this, is it cause they're not optimized for final cut? Now I'm guessing that's the problem, so I'm gonna try to reimport them as diff formats final cut may like.
    Thanks so far,
    -Brian

  • Context menu "Page Speed" in video playback

In clarification to answer given to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/961774#answer-463032 (closed thread): The context menu "Page Speed" in video playback applies to a html5 video playback streams. Older flashplayer video does not support this feature. This is not related to tab mix plus addon.
(this is comment rather than question)

    See answer above
Check http://www.youtube.com/html5 that it is enabled if applicable. Html5 player test videos can be found at http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html if you are not sure where to find a video that will show the "play speed" context menu. If you believe that a html5 video stream is available for the web page but are still seeing the flashplayer video you need to temporarily disable flash support before loading the web page. For that, you may like to try the quickjava addon , which gives you a button to turn flash on/off while browser is running. If you don't see any video after disabling flash then that page does not support an alternate html5 player stream.

  • Speeding Up Movie Playback on Ipad (Like Quicktime can do)

    Hello,
I watch a lot of training videos for my work. On my laptop I can speed them up using Quicktime's built in AV features.
Is there a way to do the same thing on iPad?
Or is there an application that will speed up Video playback?
    Thanks

Azul can speed up video playback, but I'm not exactly sure how to open videos on the device in the app.  You can download videos directly to the app though.

  • After render multiclip playback in Viewer full screen

I double clicked and loaded a multiclip into the Viewer from the Browser. Then I did an overwrite edit of the multiclip into the timeline. There are just two cameras, using four-up display in the Viewer. Then I did the cuts the way I liked them. Then I applied color correction to one of the clips. It played back in realtime and the corrections showed up in the canvas and everything played back in the Viewer in the four-up view. However, after I rendered the sequence, the clips that had the color correction applied appear full screen in the Viewer Window on playback and the ones with no correction (or any other filter) appear in the four-up display in the Viewer on playback. Is there a way to get the color correction to be applied and rendered and still have the clip play with the other one in four-up in the Viewer? Or should I have done the color correction to both clips before I even created the multiclip?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Have you tried collapsing the clips in the multi-clip sequence?
    My workflow goes like this...
Edit my multi-clip sequence completely, then with my cuts the way I want them, I 'collapse' the clips and apply my color correction to each clip.
If I find I need to change a shot, I can 'un-collapse' that shot (which then shows 4up in viewer aggin), make my shot changes, then collapse and check/change color correction.
I believe there is an 'option-click' function that enables color correcting within an uncollapsed multiclip, but I'm not at that system and am unable to confirm right now.
Don't know if that helps, but I think the collapse/un-collapse route may be part of the issue.

  • Multiclip Playback Dropped Frames

I am MultiClip editing 3 ProRes streams and getting the dreaded "RT....Dropped Frames" message every 5-10 seconds. Have followed the standard protocol (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11226192) for this and problem continues.
    Details:
-24" iMac 4GB Ram w/ plenty of HD space
-Clips were logged/transferred onto iMac HD (no external)
-Completed 2.5 hour multiclip last week, 3 streams, with only a handful of dropped frames issues
-Current project has been tried on 2 identical iMacs and a new fully loaded MacBook Pro and the issue is the same on all 3 machines.
Have read Shane Ross post/response at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11226192
Questions for Shane and Other Experts:
Is it likely that because my iMac HD is Journaled, I should be using an external?
Is this problem a playback issue or a capture issue?
What do you advise? Please help!
    Thanks!
    S. Brown

    Shane's rule #1
    1) Do not capture to your main system drive.
That drive has enough to do just operating the OS and FCP...then you expect it to perpetually read 3 streams of media?
It may work for awhile, but as you're finding out, things eventually bog down.
    Get an external.
Journaling may slow things very slightly, but you should have your system drive journaled...(but not necessary on an external)
It's only a capture issue if your media format doesn't match your sequence settings. This sounds like a throughput issue.

  • Speed up podcast playback?

I love the feature on the iphone and ipod touch that lets you play back podcasts at 2x speed.
But I don't have either of these, and I don't want to buy them - I have an ipod nano. Is there any way to increase the playback speed on itunes (or any other hack) before syncing with my ipod?
    Thanks

I am also looking for a way to do this on my first gen nano. I found a few ways to play on the PC or via re-encoding. Still looking for a more ideal solution.
    1. Quicktime can let you speed up podcasts and even videos. Which somehow I cannot find on my new Quicktime 10.
    2. VLC can speed up playback too.
    3. Speedup and re-encode mp3 using free Audacity
    4. Use a paid software Amazing Slow Downer

  • Timestretch (speed up) mp4 playback to 1.5x or 2x

Is there any way to speed up playback of an mp4 video using the VideoDisplay or netStream? For training videos it would be useful to watch the videos at 1.5x or 2x speed for viewers already familiar with the content. I know that QuickTime and Windows Media Player can change the playback speed but have not found a way to do this in the FlashPlayer.

MPEG Streamclip can play directly at 2x, but not 1.5x. With some practice, it is understandable. Unlike QuickTime Player, it does not keep the pitch the same, so you have to use Audio Hijack Pro
    <http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/>
with the Apple AUPitch effect set to -1,000 to get the pitch back to normal. (If you aren't recording, you can use it in its free trial mode.)

  • Double speed of video playback

could you increase the speed of the video playback or a
simulation ! I know there is a component you can buy that gives the
user a progress bar type thing (like volume) to which they can
increase and even rewind at a speed upto x4 and anything inbetween.
I just wondered if that kind of thing could be incorporated into a
captivate swf or if anyone actually had a widget for it

    I found this component :
    http://www.flashloaded.com/flashcomponents/speedcontroller/
but will it work with captivate swfs with playbars ! or may i
cause conflict and so on - and i have no idea how i would
incorporate that into the swf, like how to position it and so
    on.

  • Apple TV speeds up video playback on files ripped from DVDs - it looks like it's being fastforwarded slightly.

I just set up my Apple TV 2, only to find playback issues from the start.
Whenever I try to play videos from iTunes, the playback is noticeably faster than it should be. It's almost as if the video is slightly sped up, and the audio is in sync with this. The aspect ratio is also very different on some of these videos (and this doesn't correct on my TV as it does on my laptop screen) - by which I mean that the picture appears stretched on some, but not others. These are files I have ripped from my DVD collection.
What can I do about this?

    Ok, now I understand.
I haven't directly used those digital copies, per your original post it sounds is as it plays fine in iTunes but just not on apple tv
Here is the compatibility list for ATV2, in iTunes right click and get info for one of the files to see if it falls within
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Is there a way to adjust the speed of podcast playback in iOS 5?

In earlier versions of its, I could play podcasts at normal speed, half speeder double speed. As I listen to many podcasts, I enjoyed the ability to listen in the faster mode to save time. Now, after upgrading my iPad to iOS 5, it sounds like all audio podcasts are playing in only a slowed down mode with no control to adjust the speed that was found in earlier versions.  I mean, I even have this control in my first generation iPod touch!
Am I missing something or was something left out of iOS 5?

From every thread that I have read about this - and there have been plenty of them - I have not seen a definitive answer on this. The feature seems to be missing from the iPad as bizarre as that may seem. I know that I cannot find it.

  • Changing the speed of video playback

    Hi Gang,
Just wondering if there is a way to change the speed of video & audio on itunes?
I know this can be done on iPod with the audio book function, just wondering if there's one for videos?
    Cheers
    Yong-Long

Do you mean by a strobe effect that the brightness of the footage is changing randomly?
Or are you saying that the motion of your footage is not smooth and moves with a sort of rhythm that feels jumpy?
    These are 2 different possiblities.
The odds are you are experiencing field reversal caused by changing the frame rate of your footage and thereby switching the field order in the clips. I've posted many explainations of what field reversal is in past topics so search for the term.
You could minimize the effect by using the flicker filter in the footage that is being changed. You could also send the footage to Motion and enable Optical Flow in the Time Mapping properties of the clip. But that's a fairly advanced technique. Try the Flicker Filer first.
Without more info, I can't help you further.

  • Increase speed of video playback

I asked this question a while ago but did not get any
response - does anyone know how to do this within the swf itself -
i.e. the button would be inside the captivate movie (as in x2 and

    I found this component :
    http://www.flashloaded.com/flashcomponents/speedcontroller/
but will it work with captivate swfs with playbars ! or may i
