Speeding up the video

I have a certain sequence ... it's a car driving by left to right.
I want to speed it up, then slow it down. Easy to do, yes.
I'm not sure if this requires a special formula or not (think algebraic), but I want to speed it up to, say, triple time, then slowly slow it down.
Using the SPEED/DURATION button, I can slow it down, but not gradually-since the SPEED/DURATION option is fixed.
How would one slow it down gradually until it stops at the regular speed from it's triple speed. Conversly, how to speed it up progressivly to triple time from it's normal speed.
That was hard to explain...I need a shot of vino --- BILL ?

JMS had the answer I was looking for. It allows me the flexibility I needed. Prior to that answer, I did do it the 'Hunt' way and although it worked for me, the speed ramping offered by the TIME MAPPING method is what I needed in this case.
Re the PNW - It's just ducky here (speaking of which, go to www.rainierwest.com/mybackyard). I love the weather, don't miss the sun that much (I'm a dark cloudy kinda guy) and really like the people here. I'm not saying my part of Arizona's people were all that bad, but it sure is nice talking to people when most of them have all their teeth. (LOL).  I'm gonna catch hell for that one if my Arizona buds see me again.
Anyway, getting the Rainier West Video biz going here is kinda tough - lot's of competition.  Don't that beat all? In my part of Arizona there was no competition and no customers, here there's plenty of customers and plenty of competition.

  • Recording with audio playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into real time?

Ive recorded a test video with audio/music playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into "real" time?
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 50% I would make the video 100% faster.
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 100% I would make the video 200% faster.
So its obviously somewhere inbetween speeding up by 100-200%
Sorry but its melting my brain today and I cant remember the calculation.
    thanks

    hey all
Thanks for the advise on this. I will explain a little more what am have/am intending to do.
I have used Audacity to slow the song down (Effect>Change Tempo)
Audacity will allow me slow the original song down by up to 99% (Or anything in-between up to 3 decimal places)
Unfortunately I am working to a time restraint of 12 minutes per clip (as my DSLR will only allow up to a 12 minute clip).
The song at normal speed is 4 minutes long.
Originally I slowed the audio down by 50% (Making the audio 8 minutes long), lip synced to it using a rasta blaster and recorded the video using my DSLR at 720p 50fps.
I then imported the video and audio I had been lip syncing to into FCPX.
I sped up the video by x2 (equivalent to speeding it up 200%)
    Retime>Fast 2X
Layered the PROPER normal speed audio back over the top and all was fine.
    Test video complete.
(You can ignore the 65% slowed down audio I mentioned earlier if you like, that was just an example of a slower than 50% audio test)
Firstly what I really want to do is to be able to slow the AUDIO down as much as possible (But still within the restraints of only being able to adjust FCPX retiming within a whole 1 percentage in the final video edit), but have the AUDIO of the song as near to/under 12 minutes as possible.
I will then re-record the video again to this new slowed down audio.
Secondly I will speed up the video from 12 minutes to 4 minutes.
Thirdly I will layer the correct 100% Normal AUDIO on top.
The FINISHED video should then look like everyone is wizzing around at high speed but the guitar playing/lyrics look like they are being played/sung at the normal speed.
Whatever happens (due to the constraints of FCPX) I need the calculations to work so that FCPX is retimed exactly to a whole 1% for the final video to sync up correctly.
So what I need to know in a nut shell is:-
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage to slow a 4 minute song down to a 12 minute song?
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage of how much I need to then speed the 12 minute video up to turn it back into a 4 minute video?
    My mind is melting

  • IMovie 09 - How do I speed up the browser?

I believed the Apple hype that iMovie is the like iPhoto for your vidoes, essentially a database to organize video clips. Having believed the hype, I ingested almost 5 years of family vacation and other event video into iMovie 08. The video filled up 1 TB drive and about 500GB on a second 1TB drive.
I found that browsing through my videos was painfully slow. Sometimes it took about 5 minutes for the previews to switch. I'm running this on a MacPro 8-core with 12GB RAM and 4 1TB internal drives. I have an external eSata tower with 5 x 1TB drives in JBOD format connected via a eSata port multiplier card in my 8X PCIe slot.
This past week I upgraded to iLife 09. iMovie 09 is definitely quicker on the previews, but it still takes a while to switch to different clips.
I was curious how I can speed up the video preview process. Any suggestions?
Also, if I would use FCE, would that be faster for previewing videos? What to pros do with a lot more video to sort through than me?
    Thanks.
    Bud James

I can't suggest why your imovie is slow. Mine isn't, I have roughly the same mac as you with much less RAM. I have more video than you and I keep mine on external FW drives. If anything mine should be slower than yours.

  • FCP hangs when speeding up AVCHD video.

Just what the title says. I import a large MTS file and start a new project. Everything is fine until I try to speed the video up whether that be 2x, 4x, 8x, etc. If I remove the audio it all works again. So it seems the audio is really causing issues when trying to speed up the video. What I am trying to do is speed the video up and maintain the audio pitch and I do have that checked, but my late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro i7 quad 2.6GHz 16GB 512GB SSD laptop gets very upset. Also, I have noticed by using the Activity Monitor that the process that speeds video up only uses one thread to do so which is highly disappointing since this is a very intensive operation. Is this a bug and is anyone else experiencing this?

The Original Media folder definitely has the .mts file and the Transcoded Media has the .mov files.
Tracked it down and it was me not being patient. If I try to accelerate the video right after I import the video and not wait for the background tasks to complete (I am guessing the transcoding of the video after the import in this case) FCPX hangs pretty hard. Sometimes it recovers after a long wait, but never fully acts normal after that. If I wait for the background tasks to complete and the meter reaches 100% all is good. I can understand my MacBook Pro being upset when the Activity Monitor looks like this and I am trying to load more on top of it.
I would say this is taking full use of my late 2013 MacBook Pro's quad core i7 2.6GHz CPU. 8 threads screaming and on-board fans whistling. Poor little guy.

  • Does the video's FPS play a factor when exporting in a higher FPS?

The reason i am asking is becuase by now i have a theory but i need it confirmed. the video i am using runs at 24FPS average but i am rendering out in 30FPS. now the issue that comes into play is the fact that the video and audio drift out of sync in parts and gets progressively worse as time goes on. is this because of my export FPS is higher than my video's FPS or is this a common issue with any type of exporting?
Needless to say i don't need to state my specs as i have already ruled that out.(not pc illiterate) I know for sure this is a software specific issue due to the fact that i have no had this issue before till now.
It might be an interesting fact to say that i am using cartoon animation and syncing live recording clips to the animation.

A bit of an update. i'm on a much more updated PC now and now i'm running into a new problem on top of my previous one. when it comes to exporting MP4 files, it does not matter what encoder i use, adobe will ALWAYS shrink the video and cut off more than one minuet of video. the enitre episode is there, but it's for some reason or the other speed up the video. why is this happpening? and if ANYONE was paying attention to my ealier post:
I AM CLIPS FROM AN ANIMATED SERIES THE FOOTAGE WAS NOT SHOT BY ME
the frame rate for the footage is in 24FPS as i said ealier. the video is perfectly sync'd with the audio on the timeline, yet it ALWAYS DRIFTS out of sync as well as shrinks my video down. can ANYONE who KNOWS what they are talking about when it comes to adobe priemere pro explain to me why this is happening and how i can fix it?

  • Is there a way to speed up the pace of the video (watch in fast-forward) I am watching?

I am watching a class lesson that is 3 hours long and my teacher talks extremely slow. Is there a way to speed up the pace of my video? I know on some video players you can watch a video in 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 etc. levels of fast forward.

Have you got the drives set up to spin down when not in use?
Have a look at the Energy Saver settings in System Preference on the Mac.
Make sure the "Put the Hard Discs to sleep when possible" box is not ticked.

My videos from my iphone are horrible when I transfer them to my PC. How can I improve the video on my PC? Can I just convert the files to WMV? When the video plays the speed is off, it's half slow-motion and staggers into normal play. The clips are slightly cut as well, the clips do not roll continuously.  I'm taling about videos that are no more than 2 minutes long.  I'm frustrated and I could really use some advice-my kids basketball games is what I'm recording and I'm trying to send them to my family (they are not very tech savvy). Thanks

Not it's only function but one for which it was most admirably suited, which is why I really hope someone can find a work around. I am hoping my post to the Apple feedback may prompt a useful response from Apple and I live in hope that my post here will elicit a useful response from another user. I did not miss the the text at the top of the feedback form but you presumably missed my initial text, 'someone here can explain' or my subsequent 'work around from another user'
Just in case anyone reading this has a large collection of music videos, video podcasts or iTunes U then DO NOT upgrade your iPad to iOS 5. If you are considering purchasing the iPad as a useful mobile device to experience these media organised in your iTunes please don't as you will be wasting your money. (unless someone on this forum knows of a way to undo the mess created by those infallible folks at Apple)
Yes I know it does other things but the purpose I bought it for doesn't work anymore

  • How do I change the speed of a video clip after making it a Smart Object?

In order to apply the same Camera Raw filter to every segment of a clip I was going to split multiple times, I converted the whole clip to a Smart Object, applied my Camera Raw filter settings, and then split the clip and deleted some portions.  Now I want to make certain portions of those clips slow-motion, but even if I right-click on the right side of the layer and select "Clear Smart Filters", all I see when I right-click on the clip in the timeline are the motion options; I can no longer change the speed or the audio.  Is there a way to do this without having to make all the cuts in the beginning, changing the speed and the audio, and then having to go back and convert each individual segment into a smart object and then apply the same ACR filter to each one?

    Brett,
Thanks for addressing this question.  I tried it and see that the embedded file is the entire clip that I started with, not the trimmed version that I turned into a SO, but at least I could go back and make a change that way in a pinch.
If you wouldn't mind looking at this video between :50 and 1:40, and tell me if you think that AE or PP would give me significantly better results in the jumping segments where I slowed it down to 25%:  2014-06-26 And the last thing I expected to see jump out of the box was Albert Einstein! on Vimeo.  I am trying to keep my expenses down by only using PS CC for video editing, and love the Camera Raw filter capabilities.  By using PS CC it also lets me lay down my audio and edit to the audio w/o, as Mylenium suggested, outputting my file from PS CC into either AE or PP to do the slow-mo part.
    Thanks again for your help!
    Tara

  • IMovie will not import or play the clips at the proper speed and the audio and video do not match up.

i have a samsung hd camcorder. it records at 40 fps, but iMovie will not play the clips at the proper speed and the audio and video do not match up. I have tried to record at standard quality to no avail. Help. thanks in advance.

im guessing that is the speed it records at due to the fact imovie puts a blue 40 at the top left corner of every clip i import.

  • How to modifiy the speed of a video in Labview (VLC ?) in function of datas (simulated) !

    Hi !
I want to change the speed of a video in Labview. Unfortunaletly, The VLC ActiveX does not function in my version of Labview.
Is there any other program I don't know and which is able to modify the speed of a video ?
If no, what is the way to do what i want ? Is it possible to program it in Labview ?
    Thanks in advance !

    Hey,
If it is an AVI file you could use the Vision Development Modules AVI Functions to read it and save it with a higher frame rate.
    Thanks,

If you right click on your clip, does it offer to Optimize Video? If so, after you optimize you can change the speed.

So just to be clear on a few things:
Should partitioning the hard drive not work is it undoable?
Will this have any impact on doing a complete erase and reinstall and will that restore it back from the process?
Is there a limited amount of space that makes this process ineffective?
I have never had to do this sort of thing so I just want to be sure I don;t wind up in the dog house *)
