Speeding up Voice-Over\narration?

The problem with doing the sound for your own films is that huge blocks of time go by in between sound editing sessions. Thus, two years ago I happily speeded up Peter Coyote's skillful narration in a tiny spot or two, now I have a voice-over of a character who speaks waaaaayyyyy toooooo slllloooowwwwly, and I need to do a LOT of speeding up, and I've forgotten how.
Could someone point me to the right chapter in the Manual? Would be most appreciated.

_Time Stretching Regions_
Logic Pro allows you to change the length of audio regions (without changing their pitch) directly in the Arrange area—using menu or key commands.
When applying these functions to a region in the Arrange area, a new file—consisting of the resulting material—will be created, leaving the original intact. Both new and old files are accessible in the Audio Bin.
Logic Pro offers different time stretching and compression algorithms in the Arrange area’s +Audio > Time Machine Algorithm+ menu. The different algorithms are best suited for particular types of musical material. For more information, see +“Using the Time and Pitch Machine”+ on page 505.
Note: You can also time stretch selected audio regions directly in the Sample Editor, using the Time and Pitch Machine.
_To adjust the region length to match the locator positions:_
1 Set the left and right locator positions.
2 Choose +Audio > Adjust Region Length to Locators+ to stretch or compress the selected audio region to fit between the locators.
The region start point is not changed by this function—so it doesn’t matter if the locators are not directly above the region.

  • Issue with voice over narration for a presentation

When I record a voice over narration (Keynote 09) and then play back - the slides do not always play back with the sound. It seems to be an issue with slides using a build-up ... although it finishes - it then sticks and the sound for the next slide carries on out of sync to the visual - EG - every time I try it happens on the same slides - A good example is one that is followed by a .mov built into a slide. The sound track runs before the new slide image appears - Also I have problems with the movie - as the sound from the .mov file does not come through, so I have to record the movie sound on the narration rack .. confused!?

It sounds like you are making too many assumptions and not actually testing anything.
For instance, emoji may not cause issues for other contacts (maybe it is and you don't know it) but if I were testing this issue, the first thing I would do is remove the emoji from the contact info.
Next thing I would do is make a fake contact called "Home Other". And see if the Voice Control asks you to pick between Home and Home Other
Another thing I would do is add multiple numbers for your home contact (real or fake) And see if you can get the Voice control to find the contact and ask you what number you want to pick. (home or mobile)
And last thought that I had....You mentioned that the Voice Control dials a random person every time, but how random is it really? Are you sure that part of these people's names don't phonetically sound similar to the word Home?

  • Why cant I change SPEED on VOICE OVER?

I am trying to change the speed on a voice over and this is the message I am getting: Unable to complete command. A conflict occurred during a trip operation.
    Any ideas?

As a workaround, move the VO clip to the end of the Sequence or to an empty Sequence. Make the speed change as needed, then edit the clip back into the Sequence where you need it.
The error message you receive is usually due to a conflict with another clip in the Timeline so moving it to an empty spot should work.

  • Where does FCP store the voice-overs/narration clips?

    Just did a 'my bad'.
Just left the distant remote location where I've been editing a film for three months.  Used the voice-over function on FCP extensively.  But, ooops, forgot to go find the subsequent files in whatever folder FCP stores them in, and transfer them to the drive I'm now traveling with (that supposedly should have the whole film on it).
I wonder if someone could steer me to where FCP automatically stores it's voice-over files once recorded?
    Would be much appreciated,
    Ben

Thank you Studio X and Nick,
Duh.  And silly of me not to soooo carefully go through the Capture Scratch before leaving that little island in the North Atlantic.
Now I have to remind myself how to access a computer remotely, get someone to turn on the beast parked in a beautiful little white church hanging over the North Atlantic ... with a hundred wild caribou in the meadow behind, I kid you not, every day.  I could stand there and watch them from 30 feet away for hours.  Cool caribou.
    Much appreciated,

  • How to add record voice over for a video file

I have a video file (wmv) already prepared, and all I would like to now do is record a voice over for this file using Soundbooth CS4.  My hunch is that I need to import the video into a multi-track file, and then I expect I'll export the multitrack file back to the WMV when I'm done.  The problem is that when I hit the record button, I'm expecting to see the video playing but I don't.
Is there a way to add a voice-over / narration to an exisiting video file (in this case a video file without an audio track at all)

When you are recording, you are creating a new audio track and not playing the video, so you won't see it advance.
Best bet is to open the video in WMP, and record your audio in SB while it plays, to get the timing right, then open the video in SB and past the recording into it.
I'm not sure, but I believe the reason you can't play the vid and record at the same time is in case someone is recording new audio for a clip that has audio in it already, the old audio would play at the same time the recording is taking place and would screw it all up, so it either records one or plays the other, but not both at once.

  • Problem in adding voice over presentation

Ok so I want to do a voice over narration on my keynote presentation
I go through the steps of adding audio to my presentation, on the recording screen
the red button is not blinking and my voice is not recording onto the presentation can anyone help pls
    Ogay

    This is my recommendation.
Step 1) Create your Keynote presentation.
Step 2) Record your speaking part (separately) with an audio recording program.
I recommend Audacity. It's a great free application. You can download Audacity from www.sorceforge.com among other places. You'll also want to get the Audacity LIB file that is needed to export your audio recording to .mp3.
    3) From the Keynote Inspector, under the Document tab, go to the audio section and add your new voice recording file to the Soundtrack.
    4) From Keynote, go to File, Record Slideshow.
While the audio plays, click through your slides. This is getting the slide change time down.
    5) From Keynote, go to File, Export. Make sure to have the following settings:
    Playback Uses: Recorded Timing
Include audio (sound files, movie audio): NOT SELECTED
Include the slideshow soundtrack: NOT SELECTED
    Include the slideshow recording: SELECTED!!!
Click next and your Keynote presentation should export to a .mov file (keep in mind, this .mov file has no audio. we'll take care of that in the last steps).
6)Open the new .mov Keynote presentation in Quicktime Pro.
    7) Open the original .mp3 sound file in Quicktime Pro.
    8) Select All of the .mp3 file and then click CTRL + C to copy it.
    9) Go back to the .mov Keynote file and Select All. Then go up to Edit > Add to Movie.
This adds your sound and movie file together.
    10) Finally click on File > Save As. Select, Save As A Self-Contained Movie and you're done.
    I Hope This Helps!

  • Stratchy noise with my voice over

    Hi WiseMac Folks,
I'm a new iMacG% user trying to make a small doc about my Dad using some home videos and some old photos with a voice over narration in parts.
However, the voice over is marred by scratchy (sp?) noises. I'm using a Logitech USB microphone amd I've tried to move as far way from the iMac as I can do to the burrring sound of the hard drive (on the left side).
Any suggestions as to what this beleaguered middle aged former PC user should do?
    Many thanks,
    Mary

"..I would just record it on my camcorder and import it like usual. Just a suggestion.."
..and a very good suggestion (..I think Ken Twydell or Lennart's suggested that, too..) because that way you can watch the video on your Mac, record the v/o on the camcorder, and you're not giving iMovie a headache while it tries to both play back (video) and record (audio) at the same time - which can sometimes result in the message "The disk responded slowly". See also this similar knowledge base item specifically for iMovie HD.
    G'night Karsten z-zzzz-zzz-zz

  • Extract Audio Narration Track from Keynote with Voice Over

I just found a way to extract the audio narration track from a keynote I recorded using the voice over feature.
    I used BetterZip.
I right-clicked on my keynote to show the "Open With..." contextual menu. I had the keynote open with BetterZip instead of Keynote and it extracted all the elements of the presentation into a folder. I saw in there several audio tracks.
Now, Keynote did not split the audio tracks into individual slide snippets but that's better than any other technique I have read on this forum so far.
I hope this helps someone in the future.

If you save your Keynotes as a package, then you can right click and +Show Package Content+ and see all the files that make up your Keynote as well. To save your Keynotes as a package go to Preferences and click +Save new documents as packages.+

  • Can I add narrative, voice over or dub in voice to a slideshow created in Aperture 3?

Can I add narrative, voice over, or dub in voice to an Aperture 3 slideshow?

The only way to do that in Aperture would be to create the voice over in some audio program and import it into the audio browser and ten apply it to the sideshow. You can record directly in Aperture.
So you would first make the visual part of the sideshow, then play it back in Aperture and you record your voice over. Then import the voice over and add it to the sideshow.
Should work but you might find it easier to do it in somthing like iMovie or Final Cut. Export the sideshow from Aperture, import it into iMovie and do the recording there.

  • I use Garageband 09 to record voice overs via podcasting, female narrator noisy, but keep getting an intermittent clicking sound. It's not the metronome. I have a good quality external USB mic plugged in. Any ideas?

I use GarageBand 09 to record voice overs via the Podcasting then Female Narrator Noisy utility. I have a good quality external mic plugged in. I keep getting an intermittent clicking sound on the audio track. It's not the metronome as that is turned off. I have to edit out the clicking after recording. I can see the spikes on the waveline. Any ideas how I can prevent this happening?

Hi again and thanks so much for replying.
The 'mic jack' on the old mic is both wide and large, measuring about an inch and a quarter from the base (where it comes out of the black encasing) to the edge of the tip (sort of cone shaped). As I can't plug this in directly to any port in the back of the Mac, I thought it might be possible to to buy some sort of adapter so that I could plug in the jack at one end, with a USB connector at the other end to go straight into the Mac. But I see from your comment that you are suggesting a smaller jack itself (i.e., large size jack to small size jack and then plug in to the small round port, instead of jack to USB port)?
At the Mac shop I bought a USB adapter to connect up a second monitor (screen). I've just dug out the package and it's called a mini display port to VGA adapter. But back to the mic issue, I don't want to use the old mic really, I'm just trying to eliminate whether or not my usual mic, or its USB cable, is at fault and causing the clicking.
I looked on Amazon for a suitable adapter but there was mention of these little gadgets having a sound card. As the Mac obviously has its own internal sound card, I couldn't see the point of another (exernal) one, unless it was actually required to convert the sound from input to output (playback) or something. One review said sound quality was lost but the person had a problem with his speakers, not a ticking sound while playing back recordings - which is obviously my problem.
I do have a headset that I used to use for Skype. It has a pink and a green jack. I could plug one into the "headphones symbol' port and try recording again with Garageband. At least the jack is the right size. Again, this is just for the purpose of eliminating whether my good mic on a stand with the anti-popping sheild is at fault.
While my Mac does have both inbuilt speakers (I don't need external ones) and an inbuilt microphone, the latter is not of a high enough quality for voice overs, hence buying an external mic etc. But whatever is causing the clicking or ticking is obviously affecting the quality of my recordings. As you can imagine, it is very time-consuming to edit out the ticking spikes and if the noise appears during speech, you can't edit it out at all.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I am determined to get to the bottom of this for my sake and everyone else who is suffering from the same problem!

  • Can I speed up or slow down a voice-over straight from iMovie 09?

So I'm making a video with different clips and voice-overs, and I want some of the voice-overs to be high pitched and sped up. When I clicked on the clip settings and sped it up, it didn't sound the way I wanted to..it was not high pitched, it just sounded like two voices being combined? If anyone knows the solution to this, PLEASE help me out! Thank you!

Simple way is to make two  Razor Cuts in your Clip and speed up that section.
Other way is 'Time Remapping' ...which will allow ramps in and out.  Check Video Tutorials on this.

  • Narrating Keynote (Voice over slides)?  What is the best way to do this?

If I have a keynote presentation and I need it narrated (like a a voice over) what is the best way to do this?
Is it to record an audio file then insert it somehow into the presentation?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, just not sure how to make it work. I need my boss to do the voice over- so I will probably only get one shot.

This forum thread offers some options to do this. One simple strategy is to record separate bits of narration for each slide, and simply attach that to each slide. When the presentation is run, the audio file will play for each slide. This approach is much easier than alternatives, but the downside is that it does not allow for narration across slides, which may or may not be important to you. If it is necessary, then you should check out the option (discussed in the thread) of pre-recording the entire narration, then using Soundflower and Keynote's Record Slideshow functionality to create a show with narration.

  • How do I get a voice over from garage band into Final cut x?

How do I get a voice over from garage band into Final cut x?  Sorry if this is a newbie question.  I have been editing in final Cut express on my MacBook Pro and just jumped to a new iMac and Final Cut ProX.  Trying to record my own voice on a Yeti mic and import it as narration for a video.  Thought I could simply import media but X has it greyed out.

Sharing with iTunes is OK, but it is likely to produce a file in MP3 or AAC, which can cause problems. You can create an AIFF version of an MP3 file in iTunes and use that.
To create an AIFF version, go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General Tab. Click the Import Settings button. Choose Import Using: AIFF Encoder. Then choose your track, and click FILE/CREATE AIFF Version. Use this in FCPX. Be sure to go back into iTunes Preferences and set the import options back to where you had it, so the next time you rip an CD it does not make an AIFF.

  • Turned on Voice Over Now locked out

    Hi,
After updated the ios7.0.2 I was on line reading all the new things you could do with the new upgrades. One being Voice Over. Thinking it meant and by reading the article I could talk to text. I believe it was in the Accessability screen. So I turned on Voice Over. l adusted the speed of the voice then went to Messages and clicked on to text my husband to try it out. Once I got there I didn't see a micrphone so I thought maybe I need to go back and hit an apply button. Went back, no apply so I went back to messages and the whole time I'm touching things the Voice is talking. Now I realize it's not to talk to text but just to say everything you touch. UGH!! So I go back to unclick the Voice Over but need to go back on more page to the Accessability but it will not let me. It does not allow me to get out of Voice Over so the phone keeps talking. Then it froze and locked me out!!! I can not unlock my phone now, I have hard booted it down but that has not helped. I am a novice and thought whoo-hoo I can talk and text now!! Not so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you so very much.
    iPhone 4, iOS 7.0.2

Not clear what you mean by "locked out."  Also "hard boot" isn't an iPhone procedure - did you reset the phone (pressing both home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears)?

  • Standard Voice Over Effects

    Hello,
Still a bit new to Sound Track Pro 2 and there seems to be a massive array of effects available and I was wondering if some more experienced users could help me.
I am recording a voice over for a rolling news type segment with one mail narrator. Are there a few effects out there anyone can recommend that they would normally use for this style of audio, that kind of BBC news reader effect.
I am aware that my query is quite general but any advice would be appreciated.
Mac OS X (10.4.10)   8 Core Mac Pro & Intel MacBook

no I don't think so, the guy is news and media commentator Ray Snoddy - I've seen him on many occasions and that's just his normal voice.
On a live news programme like that he wil be mic'ed up by the studio sound op with a lavalier mic and the settings through the mixer will be set to get as true as possible. Levels will be taken prior to broadcast for each speaker but that will be likely only to be for volume.
On a live programme like that, with many contributors, there's no time for fine tuning anything else. Even with the pre-recorded inserts, the only tweaking will be for levels - it will be assumed that the item has been recorded correctly and only if there was some problem with the recording will any attempt be made to correct it.
Live news just doesn't have the time.
Obviously the studio will be acoustically appropriate to start with.
