A Wirespeed modem? For sure, that thing has no Web GUI. It certainly is old but I'm glad to see it is working properly still to this day
Unless you want to replace a working modem or bring another one into service for a few minutes, have a Verizon tech with access to the DSLAM (Maybe Anthony_VZ around here) get the statistics for your circuit and post them up for us to see. Westell used to have a utility for getting Statistics from the Westell 2100 and the older Wirespeed modems but since they were purchased by Netgear the utility is hard to find or no longer exists.

SSRS 2008 R2 is extremely slow.  The query runs in less than a second in the dataset designer but if you try to view the report it takes over 10 minutes.  I have read this is a bug in SSRS 2008 R2.  We installed the most recent patches and
service packs.  Nothing we've done so far has fixed it and I see that I'm not the only person with this problem.  However I don't see any answers either.

    Hi Kim Sharp,
According to your description that when you view the report it is extremely slow in SSRS 2008 R2 but it is very fast when execute the query in dataset designer, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can‘t reproduce the issue. Obviously, it is the performance issue, rendering performance can be affected by a combination of factors that include hardware, number of concurrent users accessing reports, the amount
of data in a report, design of the report, and output format. If you have parameters in your report which contains many values in the list, the bad performance as you mentioned is an known issue on 2008 R2 and already have the hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2276203
Any issue after applying the update, I recommend you that submit a feedback at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/
If you don’t have, you can do some action to improve the performance when designing the report. Because how you create and update reports affects how fast the report renders.
Actually, the Report Server ExecutionLog2  view contains reports performance data. You could make use of below query to see where the report processing time is being spent:
After you determine whether the delay time is in data retrieval, report processing, or report rendering:
    use ReportServer
    SELECT TOP 10 ReportPath,parameters,
TimeDataRetrieval + TimeProcessing + TimeRendering as [total time],
    TimeDataRetrieval, TimeProcessing, TimeRendering,
    ByteCount, [RowCount],Source, AdditionalInfo
    FROM ExecutionLog2
    ORDER BY Timestart DESC
Use below methods to help troubleshoot issues according to the above query result :

  • AppleScript code runs slower as an application than running from the editor

I discovered today that AppleScrip runs much faster when I run the code from the run button in Applescript Editor 2.3 than when I save the source code as an application and then run the application. I really expected the opposite. I would prefer not having to open Applescript Editor 2.3 each time I run a program, but the time difference is significant (see below). What causes this? Am I doing something wrong? I save the source code by going to File -> Save As -> File format: Application. I then run the application.
Examples (both programs manipulate data in lots of Excel spread sheet files):
Program 1- run time is 5 min, 40 sec when selecting run in Applescript Editor 2.3, and 23m, 25s when running as an application.
Program 2- run time is 7m, 12s when selecting run in Applescript Editor 2.3, and 12m, 54s when running as an application.

I tried the code "Hiroto came up with as solution that was essentially 100% effective" provided in the link. My run time went from 5m 30s when run from source code to 5m 50s when run as an application (differences in seconds could easily be my crude method of measuring time). Previously, it took 23m 25s when run as an application. Thanks, this is the solution I was looking for.
However, in searching this issue, I found similar code in a discussion topic titled "Applet speed -- Hiroto's solution followed by issues" posted Jul 27, 2008. That code would randomly end with "The variable o is not defined". I hope the new code solves this problem. The new code certainly worked great the first time I used it.

  • My macbook pro is running slow and freezing more than once a minute.

I do not know much about computers, but I do know this is not normal for my computer.
Processor  2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.5
So about two days ago I was using the computer and noticed that it was freezing and giving me the little spinning circle of evilness. This happens every time I open anything, try to type(which is making this an extremely long process), load a screen in the MMORPG I play(Or even just general play time).  I can be doing anything, and the computer will freeze for anywhere between 5 seconds, and up to 10 minutes. Things normally continue on fine, or sometimes my internet screens fail to load. I have ran ccleaner and cleaned up a few things, and then ran AVG which found quite a few files or something called Genio which I deleted. I have also upgraded all the latest updates that I can, but now when I try to open the app store to double check to see if there are any more updates, and it will not open, it freezes. I have reset my comps system management controller, and I have reset my PRAM. My desktop is not cluttered, and I'm more confused than ever.
If there is any more information I can give, I will try. Please help??

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Building smart previews much slower in Lightroom 6 than in Lightroom 5

Building smart previews is much slower in Lightroom 6 than in Lightroom 5.
Creating a smart preview from a DNG (Fuji X-E1 raw file) takes about 12 seconds.

I know that is the official line but copying speed is fine in Windows 8 under Parallels. I have the latest Windows 8 Broadcam driver installed for the network adapter in Boot Camp and everything else works fine.

  • Importing Slower on Intel iMac than Pentium 4 Laptop

I've had my Intel Dual-core iMac (2 GHz) for a couple of months now. What really annoys me about it is that Importing CDs to mp3 files (160 kbps) only proceeds at 3.2-6.0x speed whereas doing the same conversion on my sister's old Pentium 4 laptop proceeds at around 28.0x.
I phoned up Apple support and was told to trash the Caches folder in my Home folder. This helped for about a day but the import would still start at around 3.2x speed and then accelerate slowly up to 24.0x by around the 10th track on the CD. I have run a hardware check using the install DVD that came with the iMac and it did not report any problems with the superdrive. I have also repaired permissions on the hard drive and run the maintenance and cache cleaning scripts in Onyx but this doesn't seem to help. I understand that as the superdrive is only able to read CDs at a maximum of 24x the import is unlikely to be able to exceed this speed no matter how fast the processor is.
I keep my iTunes Library on an external firewire hard drive so as not to clog up my boot drive and it contains 5760 items, 22.32 GB. Could this be the reason for the slow down?
2 GHz Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 GB RAM, 256 MB ATI Radeon X1600

Your optical drive has more to do with this than your processor. The processor really only comes into play inasmuch as concerns the on-the-fly conversion/compression to MP3. It could well be that the MP3 encoder Apple uses is not as highly optimized for Apple hardware as it is for Windows. Actually, most lossy compressors run much more slowly on Macs than on PCs for similar reasons.
If the high-speed ripping is your ultimate goal as opposed to high-quality digital audio extraction, then I hope you find a permanent fix to this problem. I rip most of my CDs on my Windows machine with EAC because I want the most accurate rips possible, and even though my Plextor drive reads CDs at 52x, the actual ripping speed is generally about 5-7x because of my secure ripping configuration (all data is read multiple times, drive cache is flushed, etc.). The only way to achieve high-speed ripping is to completely ignore any kind of quality control measures.
If you disable (if applicable in your case) "Use error correction when reading audio CDs), you might be able to slightly increase your ripping speed, but again, there's the matter of MP3 encoding slowing things down anyway. You'd likely notice a substantial speed increase if you encoded directly to WAV or AIFF so no compression is being done as you rip.

Why is the iTunes shop in Australia more expensive than the rest of the world?

How do you know that there is not parity?
Do you know Apples expenses in each country?
Apple has to sell the music for the price that they can negotiate with the owners of the distribution rights in each country.
Perhaps those who own the rights to distribute the music in Australia simply negotiated a higher price.

There may be several ways, but one easy way is this:
    1.  Select the Text (T) tool.
    2.  Make your CHARACTER panel visible by selecting Window - Character
    3.  Click on your text layer and using the mouse select just the 2 in the H2O string.
    4.  In the CHARACTER panel, put a negative value in the Baseline shift box at the lower-left.
    5.  You can change the size by altering the value in the font size box at the upper-left as well.
