Speedtester won't work and then tells me I need to...

My broadband performance has been poor and intermittenly appalling over the last week (I read so many people complaining they're only getting 20Meg when they were promised up to 70. I get 1.5 Meg on a good day..I live in the sticks and all the village is the same..we're told this is as good as it's going to get). 
But this is not about the poor performance. After the last week, I finally decided to run BT's Speedtester.
1/First I enter the phone number and hit START TEST..every time, the next message I get is 'Sorry there is a problem checking your details - please check you have entered the number correctly and restart the test' 
Why is this?
2/ I HAVE entered the number correctly first time, so I hit START TEST again. This time the test starts (will take up to 60 seconds) then I get 'Sorry - we are not able to match all your details. You can continue to run our download speed test but we can only offer a limited assessment of your results'
Why is this?
3/I continue with the test - then I get 'We have detected you don't have Flash installed on your browser. Please download and install from here' where I get the option to start a download. I know I have got Flash installed.
Why is this?  
I was at a friend's house yesterday and found her broadband was slow too (we're on the same exchange) so tried the speedtester and her's also went through exactly the same sodding rigmarole. As I wasn't sure if she had Flash I decided to run the download (which took about 30 minutes) and then restarted the test - same as above then it still told me Flash wasn't installed.
We both have Macs but both are fully up to date with all latest Apple updates.
Anyone any ideas?
Incidentally, I found the BT Wholesale speed tester and ran that successfully twice. I got 0.02Mbps and 0.05Mbps download speeds!! Is that a record?!
I'll report the poor performance tomorrow, but I think I'll get better answers about the speed tester from the forum community.

The router is connected to the main socket via a BT filter. The main cordless phone is plugged into a slave socket via a BT filter. 
BT Speedtest (http://diagnostics.bt.com/login/?workflow=Speed) fails as usual, telling me I don't have Flash. I do! It is the latest version. 
BT Wholesale test runs and gives: Download Speed (Mbps): 1.23   Upload Speed 0.29 Ping Latency 42.88

 This evening, my broadband is running at normal speed, ie about 1.5meg. I will run these tests again when I am experiencing trouble.
 My BT broadband is generally incredibly reliable. In the 5 or 6 years I've had it, i would estimate I've had no more than 5 or 6 interrupts, normally due to lines down. I've habitually turned the router off overnight, but am now leaving it on all the time, though given that my tests in the past have shown my speed is about 1.5 meg and BT tell me that that is the best I'm ever going to get, then I'm not sure if there's anything to be gained by leaving it on.
Oh yes, the very poor speed I've experienced that has increased markedly in the last week or so...I am sure this first started right after I upgraded my BT account to unlimited download about 3 or 4 months ago, though my average usage is still only 37.69GB
But in the meantime, my original question is, why does Speedtest not work, on my Mac, my wife's Mac, my daughter's Mac and my friend's Mac, all with up to date software, all giving the same errors described above

    Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :

    Shortly after I got your message below, I got another message that claims it is from "help desk 24x7 has sent you a message - Adobe Forums”.
    I am attaching the message.  I find it suspicious that it is asking for a Skype ID and a telephone number.  What do you think?

    I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version.  I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again.  I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again.  My blue tooth doesn't work either.  I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this.  When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue.  My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!!  I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue.  Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it.  Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
    June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.

    What computer operating system is involved in the Premiere Elements 11 and 13 issues? Same computer or different ones? Are you installing from purchased download installation files or from purchased installation disc? Does Premiere Elements 11 work completely on this computer whereas 13 will not?
    Let us go through the typical drill so as to take nothing for granted.
    1. Does the problem exist with or without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled? Are you working with an individual home computer or in a
    school or company network?
    2. Are you running the program as Administrator and is there any "domain" account involved?
    3. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    4. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on the computer with Premiere Elements?
    Let us start by ruling in or out any of the above, and then we can decide what next.

    Please find the steps to resolve your issue.
    Open Installed Updates by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then, under Programs and Features, clicking View installed updates.
    Click the update that you want to remove, and then click Uninstall.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    Or Try this step
    If this does not resolve your issue then you can try a System restore to the date where unit was working fine steps provided below for you.
    Start in search box type System Restore then click on it then select the Date where unit was working fine.

    I am not sure where you mean when you say the green LED should be on. Do you mean the TC?

    In order to help troubleshoot ethernet connections all routers use connectivity leds.. even APPLE.. it has one big LED on the front.. and 4 tiny leds beside each ethernet port. That light has to come on for ethernet to be active.. if you plug an ethernet cable into the port and the light doesn't come on.. then there is no connection.. either the other end isn't plugged in.. or the cable is bad.. or the ethernet port is bad.. something is wrong.
    To get access to the TC you need this led to be green.. is it?
    If it is green and the WAN is also green.. then I want you to unplug the WAN connection.. the blue wire in the picture.. the port slightly separated from the 3 LAN port.. computer plugged just into LAN port.. no airport turned on.. and press the reset again for 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. then try and bring up the airport utility again.. assuming the ethernet led is green.
    How old and what model is the TC?
    The A number from the rubber mat will tell us the model.

    Yes I just discovered that this morning but I have purchased another external harddrive and formatted it for both and am in the process of transferring the files across it and then I will erase the old harddrive and reformat it so I can use it.
    I have learnt to format harddrives from this experience but am happy to see the back of parallells.

    Activation issues are typically the result of a device that has been hacked or jailbroken.

    Not sure if any of you above have managed to solve your problem or not but after coming across this same problem myself today as I am currently 'sofa bound' I decided to make it my mission to find a way around it.
    Initially I did think, having ready what seemed like a million questions and people with the same problem, that the only way was to buy OS X 10.5 ... HOWEVER, no. In among all these threads I found a jewel - Download I Tunes 9.2.1 which gets rid of the download itunes 10 advert and allows you to then buy from itunes again :-)  I am now one very happy lady.
    I apologise to all those that dont have older versions of OS X that maybe wont support even this upgrade but certainly for those like me with just 4yr old lap tops at least it means it not longer means buying a new one.
    Hope this helps son very frustrated people like myself - so much for apple support!

    It is possible the versions you have are not compatible with your new Mac. Could you please tell us the following:
    1. What OS are you running.
    To get this info, click on the Apple on the top left, then select About This Mac. The OS X version is there.
    2. What are the versions of the apps that are giving you problems?
    To get this info, double click on the hard drive icon and open the Applications folder. Select an application and right click on it. Then select Get Info. The version number is there.

    Numbers 3.0.1 lives in your Applications folder. Numbers '09 lives in a folder called iWork '09 within your Applications folder. You can drag each icon to your Dock. They will become Aliases. Right click (or control click) on each Alias in turn and Options > Keep in Dock. Then you can choose which one to launch.
    Numbers '09 (Numbers 2.3) is on the left, three column chart. Numbers '13 (Numbers 3.0.1) is on the right, four column chart.
    Both versions will run side-by-side. Just be sure which version has your document open before you save.
    In Numbers 3.0.1 you can convert "backwards" to Numbers 2 with File> Export > Numbers '09...
