Spell check broken. Staying in italian!

The other day, I switched the nationality of my iphone from USA to ITALIAN... played around for a little while, then switched it back to USA...
but ever since then, the dictionary has been trying to be italian... it did not go back to the USA dictionary for spell check!

Did you UNCHECK Italian when switching back to English? Check to be sure only English is checked.
Try Settings/General/Reset - Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

  • Spell Check Box stays up even after sending mail.

Lion truly has some bugs. More annoyances, which is what bugs are I guess. I noticed that in Mail now, after you hit send and cycle through all the spell check changes, the spell check box remains open, even after you've sent the email off. I know it's just one click to close it, but it makes you think the mail didn't get sent. It's so more official when everything just closes up, you know? Am I being too picky here?

yep same here, my spell check box stays open - any fixes?

  • Spell check broken after IOS 6.0.1 update

After updating one of our iPads to 6.0.1 the spell checking no longer works.  All of the settings (under keyboard) relating to spell checking, capitalization, "." are ON but none of these features work in any program.  I powered off the iPad and restarted it but these features no longer work.  I tried turning the features off and then on but no luck here.  Our other iPad and both iPhones are on IOS 6.0 and these features work just fine.  I don't plan to upgrade to 6.0.1 on these devices until we determine what broke in the 6.0.1 update.  Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Ok, this is a bit wierd.  After  ckuan's reply, I was going to try the suggestion.  When I turned on the iPad, before trying the suggestion, I find that spell checking is working as it should.  The iPad had ben on standby for several days but not completely powered off.  Don't you just love "self fixing" issues.  Wished I knew exactally what happened.  Anyway, thanks ckuan for the suggestion.

  • Spell Checker broken

Ever since I upgraded to 10.4.5, the spell check doesnt work as well. Simple things that were caught before, like letters being transposed, are now not listed.
Sometimes it finds the error, but doesnt have a suggestion whereas in the past it did.
    What gives?

no answer at all, sort of like the functionality of the spell checker.

  • Why does Spell Check not stay enabled, how do I fix it?

Every time Firefox closed, the spell check does the same thing? I want to enable it, and for it to stabilize with Firefox, and other software that it has worked with in the past.

then try the basic troubleshooting steps recommended in the manual:  restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.

  • In gmail the spell checker underlines the ends of words that are spelled correctly. Annoying at best.

running firefox 16.0.1 on pc with windows 7. This seems to have started with new version upgrade. In gmail the spell checker highlights last parts of words that are spelled correctly.

  • Groupwise 2012 Spell Checker

I have a user who is using Groupwise 2012 and when she composes a new message the Spell Check button stays greyed out. She has her settings set to: Tools/Options/Environment/General. "Check spelling as your type" and "Check spelling before send" are checked. I couldn't find any article related to this issue for this version. Any thoughts?

That sort of behaviour would have me running a full cleaning of temp
files and a defrag. Sometimes a funky temp file gets stuck that
interferes with a program, and the defrag affects the timings of things
enough to clear a number of timeout.s

  • My Spell Check is broken across the entire system

My spell check seems to be broken across my entire system How do I go about reinstalling that component?

Make sure that you have selected the correct dictionary.
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.<br />
Also make sure that [[X]"Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick.<br />
You can also try to toggle the "Check Spelling" item off and on again.<br />

  • Spell Check is Broken - Right Clicking on Misspelled Word Does Nothing

MIsspelled words are marked as incorrect in Safari, but when I right-click or control-click I never get a dialog to correct the misspelling. Spell-check works fine in all other apps, such as Mail. Any ideas? I have the problem on two machines. All have had upgrade installs from Tiger to Leopard.

    Hi
When I right-click on a misspelled word (in this case "now") in a text box, this is what my contextual menu looks like.
    Do you see these choices?

  • Thunderbird spell-checking for non en_US broken

    Hi there,
Is someone else experiencing issues with spell-checking support for languages other than en_US?
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Go to write and compose a new message
    2. Click on the "Spelling" button in the top toolbar to select the dictionary.
In that selection I used to see all my installed dictionaries. Now I only see English (US).
    Installed dictionaries:
    hunspell 1.3.3-1
    hunspell-de-de 20131206-1
    hunspell-en-gb 7.1-2
    hunspell-nl-nl 2.10g-1
    hunspell-pl 20120911-2
Tested with the following versions of Thunderbird:
    thunderbird 31.1.1-1
    thunderbird-beta-bin 33.0b1-1
It does not seem to be an add-on issue since I also tried it with all add-ons being disabled.
Other programs still properly use the installed dictionaries.

With these (latest) versions of official x86_64 packages:
    $ pacman -Qs hunspell
    local/hunspell 1.3.3-1
Spell checker and morphological analyzer library and program
    local/hunspell-en 7.1-3
    English hunspell dictionaries
    $ pacman -Q thunderbird
    local/thunderbird 31.1.1-1
    Standalone Mail/News reader
    Works okay for me too.

  • Broken in new Safari: Spell Checking and Tabs

Since upgrading to the newest Safari (2.0.2 (416.12)) I've found two things to not function as they used to:
    1) Spell checking in input boxes (like the one I'm typing in now) doesn't work. Misspelled words are still recognized and underlined in red, but right clicking on them doesn't produce a list of alternative choices like it used to.
    2) When you press apple-w, previous versions of safari would bring the next right-most tab into focus after closing the current window. Now Safari jumps to the last tab you were in. I find the other behavior much more intuitive and predictable. Is there any way to get it back or could this be a problem with Saft (a safari plugin)?
    Thanks,
    Craig

Thank you so much, Craig and Salvatore! I had been a bit annoyed at the tab function change and really missed the spelling correction change, and was beginning to figure out how to explain the spelling correction problem -- finding Craig's posting of the problems and the answers from both of you was so timely.
I'm sure Apple isn't happy about a 3rd party add-on "breaking" their product, but I so appreciate the "benefits" of this 3rd-party add-on!

  • Spell Checker No Longer Working in 10.6.4

    Hi,
after updating to 10.6.4 the spell checker has forgotten all words in German and Spanish. So all my texts are nearly completely underlined in red. This applies to all programs. It however recognizes words from my own dictionary as well as English texts. Other languages I haven't tried. Rebooting did not solve the problem. I haven't touched any language settings in the system settings. What can I do to get back my spell checker?
    Regards,
    Alexander

I noticed that /System/Library/Services/AppleSpell.service has decreased in size since a backup from last month (from about 10MB to 3MB). So I restored the old version of this directory from my backup, logged off and on again, and now spell checking works for me again in multiple languages.
However please note that this is a potentially dangerous procedure. It might be safer to reinstall the operating system manually from scratch (not an automatic restore from the backup - this will just reinstall the broken AppleSpell.service).

  • Spell Check in New Forums- How The Heck does it work?

Can somebody please tell me how the spell check works in this new forum format? I click on the abc icon and it does nothing. I do a two finger click on a word that is misspelled and it give me Insert Options. I really like the new format but hate the spell check. Can anyone offer advise? Thanks.

The built-in ASC spell checker is -- to put it kindly -- quirky. First, you must turn it on using the 'abc' tool on the right in the editor toolbar. (When it's on, it highlights.) But it won't stay turned on if you click on the tool before you enter any text -- it will just tell you that no misspellings were found & won't stay on. It also sometimes fails to check the last word if followed by a space. You can tell it to ignore misspellings, but you can't tell it to learn words because the spell-checking dictionary is actually on the servers running the site, not on your Mac or PC.
But from your remarks, you probably aren't even using the built-in checker. Instead, I suspect you are trying to use the far superior system-wide one built into OS X. The problem with that is the ASC editing tools are powered by Javascript supplied by the Jive SBS software running the site. Because that is platform independent it doesn't know anything about OS X's contextual menu (which includes suggestions for misspellings, the Dictionary lookup, & so on).
So to make a long story short, what happens when you try to right click on a word the OS X checker has underlined in red, instead you get the Javascript's response to a right click, which brings up the editor's insert/alignment popup menu instead of the OS X contextual menu.
The solution is to control click on the word -- believe it or not, within the ASC editor window a right click & a control click are not the same thing! You literally have to hold down the control key on the keyboard when you click to bypass the Javascript's right click response.
To make things that much more confusing, this only applies if the pointer is not over empty space in the editor window, which in this case excludes lines that have any text on them, including invisible text like spaces or returns. (To see what I mean, drag the tab at the bottom right of the editor window down so there is a lot of empty space below what you have typed. In this empty area, right & control clicks both bring up the OS X contextual menu, but anywhere in the text you have typed, they behave differently.)
In short, the problem is not that Apple has changed how the buttons or clicks work, it is that the new software that runs the site (not developed by Apple) does.
    Hope this helps.

  • Word 2007 Spell check failure.

Hi, I'm having trouble with getting the spellcheck to work in word 2007.
All the settings are, indeed, correct. Everything is ticked like it should be for the spell check to work.
I've tried using it with different users and even in local administrator and I couldn't get it to work.
So I stayed in local admin and went to add remove programs and COULDN'T FIND OFFICE 07 IN THE LIST!
So I installed it and presto, after opening up a word document it worked beautifully.
BUT, As soon as I logged in the user that was experiencing the difficulty I had her open a word document and spellcheck ceased to function again.
I'm guessing this is not an issue with office 07 and more of an issue with either registry or maybe even the global profile.
Any input would be greatly appreciatted.
I am running out of ideas FAST.
Maybe even a nudge in the right direction would get me going.
One things for sure. I need help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please try these steps:
    1.       Go to: Word Options > Add-ins, click the drop down arrow next to Manage and select disabled items and check if there is any file listed over there with the name of spell or en-us. If yes, then enable it and check if the spell checker works fine or not?
    2.       Also go to registry editor, and go to this location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools
And rename “Proofing Tools” to “Old Proofing Tools”
Close the registry editor and try to use the spell checker once again.
    3.       If you are still facing the issue then try to repair office by going into control panel & then add/remove programs, click on Microsoft office and then click on change

  • Spell Check and Line Breaks

    Hello,
When creating a story/text box in ID, I often have lines with soft line breaks (shift-return).
When I running spell-check, it sees the new, broken line as a new sentence.
    Example,
"This is my sentence and then
if I break it like this."
Spell check will return "if" as an error which needs to be capitalized.
Is there a way to turn off this aspect of spell check?
Or some other way to avoid this issue?
    Thank you in advance.

Nevermind. I think I figured out.
