Spell Check cannot check MS DOC file

When I open MS Doc file, spell check recognizes most words as misspelled. It offers NO correction suggestions (though the document was checked and corrected previously in OpenOffice) -
Is there a way to get rid of the misspelling redline indicators without going through entire document? also, if I type new text in same document, spell check works fine on NEW text.
Any clues please - thanks -

Open the inspector and go to Text > More > Languages, and check what is chosen. I would guess it is different for different parts of the document.
To solve it, select +all text+ in the document and then select the language of your choice.

  • Cannot open transferred .doc files on my BB Curve 8520

    I am a new user and have just bought a BB Curve 8520. Carrier is Virgin Media; OS is V4.6.1.314 (platform 4.2.0.135); Desktop Manager Version is 5.0.1.2.8
    I have transferred photos, music and some documents from my PC successfully to my BB using Desktop Manager. However some .doc files transfer, but I cannot open them on the BB. I get an error message saying a file cannot be opened as it is an RTF file. I also notice that when I start to transfer the files, the little window that pops up does not give me the option to convert them - it is grayed out. Help please - I am totally new to Blackberry and not a whiz! Thanks in advance!

    Hi everyone!
    I can't get my automator to print PDF files correctly. Once I have run the workflow I try to open the files and they are "messed up" preview and adobe both tell me that the "File cannot be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
    When I go to Automator I see an error message - (1728) The object you are trying to access does not exist. However, if I manually create the PDF from Word or Pages, I have no problem.

  • Ability to exclude (generated) files form spell-checking.

    I'd love a check box or something that would enable me to exclude generated files -- especially TOC files -- from spell checking.
    It's essentially useless to detect a mis-spelled word in the TOC: The mis-spelling needs to be corrected at its source, not in the generated file.
    As it is, I need to repeatedly click ignore to get through mis-spellings in the TOC before I can begin spell-checking the source files in which those mis-spellings originate.
    I understand that I can remove the TOC from the book while spell checking then return it to the book afterward, but practically speaking that's more work than simply "ignoring through" the TOC file...
    Cheers & hope this helps,

    Doh! I should have thought of that -- I already do that for character types tagged CODE and the like...

  • Spell check crashes ID

    We create a monthly current events newsletter that contains many suggested urls for teachers to visit. The entire document is about 32 pages long.
    When I spell check the entire file (prior to sending it out) there is a mix of regular text and urls in the document and ID crashes after about 15 or 20 ‘checks’. Sometimes just ID crashes but often the entire computer freezes up and needs a restart. I am using the latest version of Mavericks.
    I have experienced this problem with CS 6, then with CC and now with CC 2014.
    I have tried turning off  ‘Dynamic spelling’, but this does not seem to help.
    Anyone have any ideas???
    Thank you.

    Eric, Is this happening in all the documents or just one particular doc??
    If its one particular document then I would suggest that you try steps in : http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-indesign-documents.html
    If its all the documents then delete the preferences, refer the document for locations : http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/indesign-preferences-support-file-locations.html
    Also It would be helpful if you let us know if the issue is with one particular language or all the languages ( If you have multiple language text )

  • ADF 10g: open doc file in msWord but not in browser

    Hello,
    I'm working with JDeveloper 10.1.3/JHeadstart 10.1.3. deployed on Oracle application server 10.1.2.3
    Does anybody know how to open a .doc file in msWord application on client side?
    I have added a mime-type in my web.xml:
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>doc</extension>
    <mime-type>application/msword</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    but the file is opened in a new internet explorer window.
    Currently I succeeded to open it in msWord by changing settings on the client computer in explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types and then change for doc file type the advanced property "Browse in same window". When not checked, the .doc file is opened in msWord but when checked the file opens in the browser.
    It could be easy to ask the users to make this modification on their station, but it is not possible.
    Thanks in advance.
    Pierrick

    Hi,
    if the requirement is similar and not the same its always worth spelling it out. You can reference document resources like Word from ADF by referencing the document URL from a goLink (which then allows you to set the target property to open the doc in a separate browser window or tab). If the browser opens Word, downloads the file or opens in the browser depends on the MIME type setting of the browser (e.g. can it display Word documents natively). If the document e.g is accessed from ADF through a servlet then you probably can set the Mime type explicitly to a specific one. However, it the client in the end that interprets how to process the document.

  • Pages will not open .doc files

    Good morning everyone. Read through some older threads about this problem and I have not yet found a solution, so I hope some fresh eyes can help me out with this situation. Recently upgraded to a new 27" iMac and decided NOT to install MS Office. Going with iWork exclusively. Been an iWork user since it came out and never really had any major problems. However, now I cannot open any .doc files at all - I am simply prompted with an error that the document could not be opened. It doesn't matter how I try to open the file or where the file originates (mail, desktop, etc) it simply will not open, or what the file even is - as I have tried multiple, different .doc files.
    Any idea as to what is causing the problem? This is a new one for me and I am growing more and more frustrated by the day. Thanks for any suggestions

    Have you read this thread ? _http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10339184_
    Go through the suggestions and do come back and tell us what worked.

  • I can't use word because a box keeps popping up saying that it can't find the spell check files?

    I open Word and there is a pop-up message saying that word cannot start the spelling checker because the files may be missing and to make sure that the spell checker files are installed or use the Microsoft installer to install spell checker. I have never had this problem with Word before and spell check has always been fine. What should I do?

    Since word is made by Microsoft you should post your question on their own forums for their Mac software as Apple Communities only provide support for Apple products:

  • Spell checker error: null cannot be parsed to a squiggly dictionary

    I organized a spell-checker with help Squiggly in my app ( http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/squiggly/).
    _newdict.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, handleLoadComplete);
    _newdict.load("dictionaries/en_EN/en_EN.aff", "dictionaries/en_EN/en_EN.dic");
    Everything works fine when the dictionary files is in the same folder as the app. But the dictionary have large size (over 5MB). Therefore load it on user demand. Files can not save the program folder, but only application Storage Directory.
    However, when initializing the dictionary there is an error: null cannot be parsed to a squiggly dictionary. I've tried both ways: file1.nativePath and file1.url, it is still the error.
    var file1:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("dictionaries/en_EN/en_EN.aff");
    var file2:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("dictionaries/en_EN/en_EN.dic");
    if (!file1.exists || !file2.exists){
        //download files from the server
    } else {
        _newdict.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, handleLoadComplete);
        _newdict.load(file1.nativePath,file2.nativePath);
       //_newdict.load(file1.url,file2.url);
    Tell me how to solve the issue, please?

    Subhranshu,
    Remove the CO extension and check whether it still throws the same error, or it throws the error when u extend the CO.

  • The Firefox spell checker has the option for me to add custom words to the dicionary. Please tell me how to delete a word from this file of custom words because a mispelled word got in there by mistake.

    I want to know how to delete words from the custom dictionary in the spell checker that I put there by mistake.

    In your profile directory, the file is '''persdict.dat''' and you should know how to get to your profile. One way is to enter '''about:support''' in the location bar then click on "Open Containing Folder". Or go through the Help menu > Troubleshooting Information > ...
    You can edit with wordpad, or notepad++, but not with notepad,

  • How do I compare these text files (aka spell check)

    I'm having the hardest time figuring out how to get this spell check to work. Basically, I need to open the dictionary.txt file and then another file which will be spell checked. Ignoring case sensitivity, punctuation, and word endings (such as ly, ing, s). And then output to the user the words that were not found in the dictionary. Here is what I have so far (and it is very basic.... there is no attempt to compare yet since I don't know how to approach this). I only have it outputting to a JTextArea what is opened minus punctuation and upper case....

    Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.
    Finished spell1.
    Also, when I execute, nothing happens. It looks like it is going to try to do something, but the "open" dialog box never opens and no errors pop up. It just sits there executing. Any suggestions??

  • Certain files don't spell check

    Hello I've encountered an odd situation.
    I have a few files that were created by the same user that don't turn up spelling mistakes in any words ("asdf" for example)
    The spell check opens, looks like it's running, but doesn't find any errors. I have also turned on dynamic spell check, and it does not underline anything.
    From information found elsewhere, I checked language settings, and scope settings, and they are both set properly (english and whole document, respectively)
    If I create a new file on the same workstation, it spell checks fine. If I create a new text area on the problem file with identically errored text, it does not pick up the errors.
    I have exported to and imported from the transfer format, but get the same results.
    What other solutions could I look to next?
    please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide!

    Select the suspect text and look in the Control panel or Character panel. What is the language of the selected text? If it is No Language, then there is no dictionary for InDesign to check the spelling against.
