Spell Check on iPhone

Is there a way to adjust my spell check settings? There is one word that I type and iPhone never remembers it in the memory?

The spell checker has some very annoying flaws. It cannot remember words with two letters (for instance, the German word "da" is always converted to "es"), sometimes it will not remember that a certain word is written lowercase (for instance the word "langsam" in the German language), and some words with umlauts are also often not suggested correctly.
Thanks Apple for not correcting these bugs for six months. Can we have any hope this will be fixed one day?

  • May i know which tools used for spell check in iphone 4..?

    Hi,
I want to know what kind of tools used in iphone 4 for spell check. It works fantastic while typing messages and it pop up related words automatically..I liked it very much..So, i want to know what kind of tools they used to achieve this..
    Thanks..

im pretty sure that it private information.  Apple doesn't want other companies knowing their secrets.

  • Please add "iPhone" to the spell check dictionary.

The forums spell checker is flagging iPhone, which is an Apple product name. Please add it to the dictionary.

As you don't run a Mac I can only suggest that you add them yourself - after all you only have to do it once!
Umm, I want to be as "constructive" as possible, so I'll clarify my statement. My suggestion referred to the web based spell checker built into the apple discussions site. It's the little "ABC" checkmark icon between underline and quote. This application does not run on anyone's local machine, (Mac or other)- it's web based.
On the server, it contains a database of all the words that are spelled correctly, along with thousands of suggestions for how to correctly spell words that aren't correct.
Apple generally takes very good care to make the user experience seamless and well thought out. Unfortunately in this case, it's failure to include it's own brand names like "phone" seems careless or at least sloppy. If you look beyond just it's own product names like "iMac", you'll also discover than common feature words like WiFi, GSM and dozens of other words which are commonly used in these forums are also missing. I'm trying to help Apple give the most professional image possible.
As for your comment, immediatly replying that I'm not using a Mac so too bad seems to run counter to the desire of this community, beyond the fact that you don't understand this application. If the goal is to encourage Windows, (or in my case Linux), users to move to OSX, then you might want to be or encouraging and not so dismissive. If your goal is to alienate potential customers perhaps you're ideally suited for the Linux user community who's elitist ugliness for NOOBS is legendary.

  • How do I get the Iphone to recognize and spell-check in foreign languages?

How do I get Ipohone to recognize messages I am writing in foreign languages and the corrently spell-check them?  It is VERY annoying to have the English spell checker chanbge every word in a French messge!

Spell checking follows the keyboard, so select the appropriate keyboard.

We get paid with cheques and organise, specialised coloured aluminium. I can not rid my apple devices, mac book pro, desktop IMac or IPhone of the american spell checker.
Everything, Numbers and Pages et al, always default back to US English. To cap it all we sell luminaires (yes this is a word used in our world of lighting design everyday) Mac and Microsoft always default - my docs have more words underlined in red that not. I once found a permanent solution for Microsoft that removed US english - and then the laptop died. Can anyone rid me of this irritation.

    GOT IT FIXED!  WOW!
I did better than filing a bug report.  I went to Apple support, chose chat support.  When it wanted $15 or was it $19 I filed an exemption which was a choice on the page, based on the fact that I recently upgraded to Yosemite.
Got the chat fellow and here we go!!!!  ;-)  First off he sent me this app so he could see my screen.  Then he had me do a few things  like move the system configuration folder to the desktop and repair permissions.  Then he had me reset the SMC and Pram.  Nothing helped, all the ghost computers still showed in the finder.
As a last resort he had me reset my Apple Airport Extreme.  Wala!  Ghost Computers GONE!  He said it was a combination of stuff but mainly it was the airport extreme when I installed Yosemite.  Something to do with my network.  We'll see if it holds or if the problem comes back but as of now there's no more ghost computers in the sharing part of the finder.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions.  I hope maybe this helps someone else.

  • Spell check broken after IOS 6.0.1 update

After updating one of our iPads to 6.0.1 the spell checking no longer works.  All of the settings (under keyboard) relating to spell checking, capitalization, "." are ON but none of these features work in any program.  I powered off the iPad and restarted it but these features no longer work.  I tried turning the features off and then on but no luck here.  Our other iPad and both iPhones are on IOS 6.0 and these features work just fine.  I don't plan to upgrade to 6.0.1 on these devices until we determine what broke in the 6.0.1 update.  Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Ok, this is a bit wierd.  After  ckuan's reply, I was going to try the suggestion.  When I turned on the iPad, before trying the suggestion, I find that spell checking is working as it should.  The iPad had ben on standby for several days but not completely powered off.  Don't you just love "self fixing" issues.  Wished I knew exactally what happened.  Anyway, thanks ckuan for the suggestion.

  • Keyboard input in other languages - How to turn off spell checker?

I have been trying to send text messages on the iPhone in my native language and it kept replacing all the words with english words. I have tried to turn off the spell checking, but no luck. I have asked the Apple Store employees, no luck there either. How can I type my messages in languages other than english? I don't need a spell checker in my language, I just want an option to turn off the english one.

Input is essentially English only for this version of the iPhone.

  • Why does Apple charge for spell check while MS Word offers it for free?

I have been using MS Office for Mac until recently when I could not open PowerPoint files sent to me. I bought iWork '08 to remedy that and right after I installed it, Spell Catcher said my trial period was up and that I could buy it. Of course, I'm NOT going to buy it! I tried running a spell check in Pages but it did not pick up on all of my purposely misspelled words. Do I really have to PAY for spell checking? I am not impressed with iWork '08!
As a side note: Does anyone notice how difficult it is to get into Discussions recently? Is it beacause of iPhone traffic?

Spell Catcher is not something that is installed with iWork as far as I am aware, I have spell check built in to Pages and keynote and I have never seen any mention of "spell catcher"
This is the company that makes SpellCatcher: http://www.rainmakerinc.com/
They are not affiliated with Apple. In fact, No development has occurred since last year.

  • How to turn off spell check

What do I need to do to remove spell check when typing (turn off and on) as I type messages in different languages

This is covered in the manual:
iPhone User Guide (For iOS 5.0 Software)

  • Turning off Text Spell Check

Easy one this...hopefully. Can someone tell me how to turn of the spell check type function in SMS mode. It's causing me problems and even re corrects itself when I've gone back and changed it.

Its not going to be changed. Apple designed it that way on purpose, and it's considered a "feature" of the iPhone - one that has been much touted and advertised, called "Predictive Text".
I agree that I would like to see an option to turn it off -- I could type much much faster on the iPhone without the predictive type...but people have been requesting this feature for over a year (along with cut and paste, etc) and there is no indication it will be changed at any time soon.
One caveat though -- touching the X and dismissing the suggestion really DOES work over time -- once you have dismissed a suggested word twice, it really isn't suggested again. Over the course of a couple weeks, it dismisses most of the words it wrongly suggests. Pain yes, but ultimately it goes away if you consistently touch the X and dismiss it instead of pressing any other key.

  • Spell checker help, PLEASE

I have a MacBook Pro Unibody with OSX 10.6.8, and my spell checking system went away.  I also have cocoAspell 2.1 installed too. Neither one is working. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but what I REALLY LIKES was having all of my misspelled words and grammatical errors show up with a red line underneath them. That's the way it used to be. The red lines showed up in Word, Mail, or any other text entry application. I tried re-installing cocAspell and still nothing. When I control-click on a text entry fiels the MANUAL spell checker window opens up, but it's blank and catches nothing. Help - I don't knonw what I'm doing wrong, and my spelling *****! It's embarrassing. I need advice on finding a fix, whether it's in OSX or an inexpensive 3rd party spell checker (I can't find any under $35)
Thanks for Any help you can provide.

Open Safari in iPhone, and open a new browser (very important!). Now tap the Google search field and start typing the word you want to add to the dictionary. Tap “Google” button to launch the search. Now you can close Safari, and the word should be in your dictionary.

  • Spell check for any application

Having only just my iphone I can't believe there is no spell check for the mail functionality. Aside from that why is spell check unavailable for yahoo and gmail through the web browser? Any ideas please...

Move the associated plist files for those applications out of /Library/Preferences/ within your home folder to the Desktop. E.g., com.apple.textedit.plist for TextEdit, quit and relaunch TextEdit, and re-enable spell as you type. If that fixes things, delete the moved file, and do the same with any other apps where it appears to be broken.

  • After iOS8, spell check doesn't work for last word in sentence

    Hello,
After updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 8, i've noticed that the spell checker and the keybord shortcuts arent working for the last word in sentence.
For instance, I used to have a shortcut, so whenever I texted LOL and hit the send button, it would send "HAHAHAHA" into the message.
Now, if i just type LOL and hit send, it will send LOL iinto conversation.
Has anyone managed to fix it out?
    Thanks.

    Confirm this is selected:
    In the new Write window
Options > Spell check as you type
''re Yes, I have dictionaries installed.''
This implies you have more than one dictionary.
Can you check to see if any addon /extension is causing a conflict.
There is no point starting up in safe mode as this will disable the dictionaries. So instead:
    Tools > Add-ons
The 'Add-ons Manager will open in a new tab
    select 'Extensions'
Disable all add-on extensions except for one dictionary.
Check to see if that dictionary is an up to date version.
    then select 'Dictionaries'
This is where the default dictionary is located.
In my case it is 'United States English Spellchecker'
    make sure this is disabled.
The idea being to ensure that only one dictionary is enabled and that it is up to date. Then check to see if the spell check works.
If you have other dictionaries, go through the process of enabling one dictionary, checking it is up to date and then testing the spell check.
Please confirm which dictionaries you have installed.
for example, I have British English Dictionary 1.19.1 and it is located under Tools > Addons > 'Extensions' and it is enabled.
    I also have under:
    Tools > Addons > 'Dictionaries'
'United States English Spellchecker' 7.0.1 but this is disabled.
Tell us what you have and report back on the testing.
