Spell check swear words

Is it possible to hide swear words in the spell checker?
Our users are offended by the explicit language appearing in the spell checker proposed words. But they still want swear words to be spell checked, so deletion from the dictionary is not an option.
Microsoft word does this - all swear words do NOT appear in the proposed word list, but the real word is checked and verified to be correct. Can the spell checker be customised?

Just a guess but, maybe the space character is being deleted when the correction is applied. Perhaps entering a space as the last character after correcting the first word?

  • Spell Check Concatenating Words

I use Adobe Reader X on Windows XP, and whenever two misspelled words are next to each other, the spell check will concatenate them.
For example, if I have what was supposed to be "test trouble" but have "tets troble" and then run spell check, when I correct 'tets' to 'test' and 'troble' to 'trouble', it will put them together as "testtrouble."
Does anyone else have this issue, and are there any plans to correct it?
    Thank you,

  • How do you Spell Check w/ Word, Without using webutil?

In our v6 forms we were able to use MS Word's spell check, how can I do this with a 10g form without using webutil?

Jim, thanks for the update. Some of the recent version of Jinitiator have included bug fixes relating to proxies. (though I suppose Support has gone through this with you).
I don't want to confuse the issue here but while Oracle Forms 10g is only certified on certain JVMs etc, we did run some webutil specific certification tests on Sun JDK 1.4.2 and that was ok (but again please cross reference this the Forms client certification since this testing was just and aside for the webutil QA).
If you need this functionality I think it would be worth seeing if a bug can be identified in Jinit and seeing if we can fix that -you may have worked with Support on this already...but as I said, check with the latest Jinit anyway to make sure. (1.3.1.17 or 18 I think off the top of my head)
    Thanks

  • How do you stop spell checking any "word" that has an underscore in it.

I send lots of email that reference code.  Either with snipits, or mentioning variable names or file names etc.
So I would I disable any spell check of any word that has an underscore character as part of it.  For example dont_check_this_var.
I specifically am concerned about settings in Outlook

Right click on the word, and select "Ignore all".
    To disable spellcheck,
Click the File tab, and then click Options.
Click Mail , and then click Editor Options.
Click to clear the Check spelling as you type check box.
Click to clear the Mark grammar as you type check box.

  • Spell check and word suggestion doesn't work Droid 4

My wife and I both have Motorola Droid 4s. I have had mine for almost a year, and she has had hers just a week. After I factory reset mine to fix a spell check problem, I noticed that the spell check still doesn't automatically fix errors, and there is no word suggestion. Her's is doing the same thing. When I looked for this issue online, I found numerous other Motorola Droid 4 owners having the same problem.
Since we text a LOT, this is certainly a major inconvenience. We would like to know if there is a fix for this issue, is it OS version and phone specific, and when an update/fix can be expected.
    Thank you for your time!

The settings you gave me are the same as I and my wife have set except for the keyboard and input methods. For us, android is checked but disabled (gray), moto chinese input is checked, and swype is checked but disabled and gray. Same as it was when spell check and suggestions didn't work. Now ours is working but what is really interesting is that we never changed anything since it wasn't working. We just woke up the day after posting this and it was working. Hmm. I left the moto chinese checked because why tempt fate?
Thank you for your reply and information.  That fact is, my spell check worked for a year and then suddenly it did not. My wife's didn't even out of the box, then the day after I post, ours works perfect. Coincidence? Who cares. =)

  • Excluding VBA codes from grammar & Spell checker in word 2013

    hi Guys
i am learning VBA & i write my notes & my exercises in a word document.
the problem is Grammar & spell checker shows VBA codes as errors.
i don't want to completely disable checker. is there any method or Add-on so that we introduce Correct VBA codes as correct sentences to word 2013 so that it doesn't show them as errors ?
    thanks in advanced

i tested it but i noticed an strange behavior. it sometimes works but sometime doesn't. or sometime partially works.
for example i have defined a box as a border around the selected Area. this applies but although i have selected "do not check spelling or grammar" , system again shows spelling & grammar errors as you see in the screenshot. it's seen even
after i reapply style. any further help please?
Your screenshots have far too little resolution to see anything meaningful. I cannot see what Style you're applying the attributes to, or how you're using that Style. If you're applying the Style to text that's already in the document, you may need to run the
spell-checker to clear the 'error' underlining that was already there.
    Cheers

    [MS MVP - Word]
i have created the "NOGrammarSpellCheck" Style correctly.
yes i had written some VBA codes in my doc, then i created my "NoGrammarCheck" Style & Applied it on the selected Exiting codes. but again errors are shown. i noticed that when i again click on my style to apply, know errors disappear.
so i found that if codes exit before, we must apply the
"NoGrammarCheck" Style Twice so that it completely be applied.
but if we Apply the style on a blank area in word doc & then paste our VBA codes in that Area, now everything is ok & no grammar or spell check is shown.
    am i correct ?

  • Spell check one word?

Is there a way that I can spell check just selected or highlighted words?

    Hi Peter
Which program are you using ?
When I "right mouse click" (aka ctrl click) a selected word, I don't get a Dictionary menu item.
If I really wish to get a dictionary, I must enter your beloved "Writing Tools" item. But it's perfectly useless if the checked word is not an English one because there is only an English dictionary in MacOS X

  • Spell Check Marks Word with Punctuation as Misspelled

I am working in 5.5 and suddenly my spell check has a bug. If a word is next to an exclamation point or question mark, it flags it as misspelled. It didn't used to do this.

I have this problem, too; and as ~200 people have viewed this, perhaps others do. Can anyone help?

  • Problem with spell checker - microsoft word is better in this respect

First, I love Pages, I find it better than Word and will continue to use it. Second, I love the spell checker, and I keep it on as I'm typing. I don't want to change this, except for one small feature that Word does and Pages does not.
When I'm typing a sentence, there are many occasions when I type a word that Pages doesn't have in the dictionary, and thus it changes it to what it thinks I want to type. For example, I typed "Lindberg" and it changed it to "Lundburgh" which I didn't want to happen. Of course, this happens to other words that are not proper nouns.
In Word, if I'm typing a sentence such as "And then Lindberg..." and Word changes it to "Lundburgh," if I simply delete back and re-write "Lindberg" and continue on, Word by default will NOT auto-correct again, and I can continue typing freely.
In Pages, however, if I do the above Pages continues to auto-correct. You must right click and "Ignore" or "Learn" spelling, and that slows me down big time.
So, I think Pages should do this one thing that Word does, and I'll be a happy camper.

So, I think Pages should do this
You are just talking to other users like yourself in these forums. To ask Apple to add this feature, go here:

  • Spell check on word...

    Hi all,

    Thanks,
    Paul.

Since Word is not an Apple product, I suggest you head toward the Microsoft Office:Mac forums found at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
That group is dedicated to user questions about MS Office:Mac applications. You'll find more answers in that forum rather than an Apple forum dealing the Mac/Windows compatibility.

  • Word 2008 shuts down when spell check is used.

I'm running Lion on my iMac Desktop. All my software is up-to-date. Recently, evry time I use spell check for Word 2008, Word quits. Anyone else having this problem. I'd like to hear from someone who who's found a way to fix it.

Ahh.... Me too. After I bought a new macbook with Leopard, I had to install AppleWorks 6 off a DVD that I had from my eMac. I too, was getting crashed every time I tried to spell check, also, the "learn" button was not lit. I was able to stop the crash, and get the "learn" button back, by switching the dictionary to User. But it won't stay put. Every time I use AppleWorks, if I forget to switch it happens all over again. How can I get the User dictionary back as the default, instead of "main," that's causing the headache?

  • WGM: is it possible to disable Word 2008 spell check with WGM?

We have users that will use their macbooks to an exam where the teacher asks if htere is a possiblity to disable the spell check in Word.
Thanks for any help i can get ...
    OSX server 10.5.6

    Yes, this should be possible.
Applications store preferences in .plist files, which is basically all WGM does - controls plist files.
You'll want to first identify which attributes with com.microsoft.Word.plist you want to control via WGM (to disable spell check).
You may want to have Property List Editor installed (from developer tools - now on system administrator tools too) and open up /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Word.plist make a not of its settings. Then open word and change the settings necessary to turn off spell check. Then take a look at the plist file a minute afterward, you should notice some settings have changed. I think the setting may be "2008\Options\Options:AutoSpell", but you'll have to double-check.
Once you know the setting, make a note of it and what the value should be to disable spell check.
Now, open WGM and click a user, group, computer, or computer list object you want to control the spell check to. Click the preferences pane, then click 'DETAILS' (not Overview - which is default).
Now click the PLUS button and browse for the com.microsoft.word.plist from your home folder. You may want to select 'ALWAYS' instead of 'OFTEN' as well. Then click 'ADD'.
Once the plist is added to the list, double click it to edit it (you do not need property list editor for this part), and delete all of the attributes you do not need to control, you just want to leave the 1 or 2 attributes that toggle spell check to be off.
This should take care of it.

  • Bug? Mailto: in combination with Office 2013 Spell Checking.

    Dear community,
For one of our sollutions we use the mailto protocol to send a hyperlink which users can use to automatically open a predefined new-email-window.
This works fine with Office Professional Plus 2010 [EN-US] (32bit) in combinatione with Microsoft Office Language Pack 2010 - Dutch/Nederlands (32bit).
However, Office Professional Plus 2013 [EN-US] (32bit), in combination with Microsoft Office Language Pack 2013 - Dutch/Nederlands (32bit), crashes whenever the spellingcheck is started.
The mailto-command we use to reproduce this problem is (enter command in Internet Explorer, open with Outlook):
    mailto:[email protected]?subject=%20Actie%20vereist&body=%5b2103162%2f335159076094968874376260057075247208793%5d
    During analyses we concluded:
    - Office Configuration Analyzer Tool 1.2 (Full Scan) did not find any related issues.
    - Spellchecker crashes while checking the text within the body.
    - Uninstalling Microsoft Office Language Pack 2013 - Dutch/Nederlands solves the problem, but obviosly, we want to keep the Dutch spelling check functionality.
    - Standard Englsh (U.S.) spellchecking functions without problems.
    - This problem is reproducable on any computer running Office Professional Plus 2013 [EN-US] in combination with the Dutch (Nederlands) spelling check. Tried multiple hardware configurations (Intel based) and multiple OS's (Windows 7 Enterprise
(64bit), Windows 8.1 Enterprise (64bit), Windows 8.1 Pro (64bit). All with the same result.
Is there way to solve this issue, without loosing Outlook 2013 as client and Dutch Spelling Check capabilities?
    Kind regards,
    Leon Kandelaars.

    Hi Steve,
    Thanks for your reaction.
Q - Do you mean Outlook crashes when we click the Spelling & Grammar button under Review tab?
A - Yeah, if you try to edit the mail and have 'check spelling as you type' activated, it wil crash as well.
Q - If we copy the email body and paste it to a new email message, will this issue continue?
Does this   issue happen with other Office 2013 programs? Please try to use 'spell check' in word and check if the same issue occurs.
A - If you copy the generated body to a new email or Word 2013, the spelling check will in both cases crash the application.
Q - In addition, we can also have a look at the event log to see if we can find anything useful.
A - The crash generates an "Application" "Hang error". I've generated 2 (1 with Outlook, 1 with Word):
