Spell Check Text in Spanish in Acrobat Pro 9

I can only spell check in English and I work in various languages. I went to File > Properties > Advanced > Reading, changed it to Spanish
Then Edit > Check Spelling > In Fields editable text, comments  then when it opens it does not show Editable Text.
How do I set my text to Editable Text. I have searched and have not found the solution. There are documents that I have created myself. Thanks for the help ...

Figured out the solution: Go to Edit > Preferences > Spelling > Check the languages you wish to use and move them up to the top. Make sure the language you wish to use in a particular document is at the very top since it seems the Adobe is not intuitive. . I guess it will not check multiple language in the same pdf document.

Text appearance in adobe acrobat (pro) files displays inconsistently unless you zoom in. Mainly 'i's and 'l's look bigger than they should.
The pdfs print fine though.

Try doing a spotlight search for all files that start with AdobeFnt. They will be named AdobefntXX.lst, with the XX being some number. They will be scattered across the drive... After making sure that all Adobe applications are closed, trash all the adobefntxx.lst files, those with the 3 letter extension .lst.
Then, restart the system, and open the files in Acrobat again.
Otherwise, what happens in Safe boot? (Remember, Safe boot loads only a default set of fonts.) If they display fine there, the problem most likely is a font issue, one of the fonts that Adobe installed.
Check Adobe's web support page for troubleshooting Fonts.

Contact Adobe about the whole issue, it is after all, Adobe Acrobat... Adobe's contact number is 800 833 6687.

• Why can't I search/find text I added in a PDF with the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X?

If I use the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X to modify a text, the program can't find the added/changed text. But when I just delete letters/words in the text, the rest/changed words can be found. Is that a known problem? Is there any fix or workaround?

Fantastic. There is all sorts of nonsense out there on how to fix this problem, but your simple suggestion works perfectly. Thanks!

• Spell Checking Text with All Capital Letters

Is it possible to change a spell check option in Adobe, like you can in MS Word, to include words in all capital letters? we have thousnads of documents that require all text to be all capitals and spend an appreciable amount of time spell checking by copying to MS Word to discover errors. No one I've talked to seems to have an answer.

As I understand it the spell check in Acrobat is for text in annotations only.
It does not check PDF page content..
Such content needs to be spell/grammer checked before converting to PDF.
Be well...

• When trying to edit text and fonts in Acrobat Pro 11 I keep getting a message saying acrobat has encountered an unknown error?

I have just downloaded Acrobat Pro V 11.0.0 and tried to edit an existing PDF file. When I try to do this I receive a message that Acrobat has encountered an unknown error - what am I doing wrong?.

Hi myarwema,
Are you using Acrobat on Mac OS or Windows (and what version?). You say you have version 11.0.0, but the current version is 11.0.10, so please choose Help > Check for Updates and install any available updates for starters.
Does the error occur regardless of the PDF that you try to edit? If the problem is widespread, I would recommend a repair/reinstall of Acrobat (if installing the updates doesn't help). If the problem occurs with just the one document, that PDF could be damaged.
Best,
Sara

• Linking text form fields in Acrobat Pro

I am using Acrobat Pro.  I have successfully entered javascript that links multiple text fields so that when reaching the end of one field it automatically advances to the next.  My problem is that if I am in the middle of a word it will split the word instead of carrying the entire word to the next line.  How do I fix this?

I'm having a simliar problem except for some reason, if I am typing a word, the sentance will advance to the next field but will be missing a letter and looks like this:
This is an example of what Acrob
t is doing.
There is a letter that disappears and I can't seem to find how/where to fix it. I think it involves something with the java code but I'm not sure...

• Visibility description text form fields in Acrobat Pro

Hi there,
I'm making a lot of forms for a client of mine. The major part I'm doing from indesign CC, but a couple of specific alterations I have to do in Acrobat Pro. There is one thing I can't figure out, lets see if I can describe it correctly;
One of the 'forms' is a certificate clients of my clients will get. In this certificatie is a graphic area in which the account manager, who makes the sell, has to type in the company name of the new client.
So I made a text field for this, but here's the thing:
I'd like to display the description of the field (which is 'Type in company name') visible in the field in acrobat.
1 account manager opens form
2 sees where to type the company name
3 types
4 the description will be invisible with printing
It would be even better if the description tekst becomes invisible after typing, but maybe that's a bridge too far?
Can anyone help me with this or maybe tip me on an alternative?
Thank you!
Regards, Liek

This is for a text field that you create in Acrobat, whether the form is used offline or online. The script is a custom Format script, which you can place by bringing up the Properties dialog for the field, select the Format tab, set a format category of Custom, and you should see where you can enter the script. Change the string "Instructional text goes here" to the text you want to display when the field is blank.

• Text Box Orientation in Acrobat Pro 9

I am using the trial version of Acrobat 9 to test all features before purchasing.  One thing I cannot figure out is how to change the orientation of text in a text box.  The main portion of the page consists of horizontal lines of text.  I have created a text box running up and down the left hand side of the page, and I want the text in that box to consist of vertical lines.  It defaults to horizontal lines of text (like the main portion of the page), and when I try to rotate view, it rotates the entire page, not just the text box.
Is this possible to correct?  This is an important part of my documents, so if I can't do it, I probably will not purchase Acrobat 9.  Any help?

Thom Parker has posted 'Automating Placement of Annotations' on the Acrobat Users Community sites, http://www.acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2007/10/auto_placement_annotations . It uses the undoucmented or little documented Matrix2D feature of Acrobat.

• Why is Firefox spell checker correcting in Spanish instead of English?

Firefox is correcting in Spanish though current browser and Op system is set to English. Tried installing English as an Add-in dictionary and it gives me a message "can't install update in this version of Firefox 3.6.3". This was a recent download of firefox.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I installed firefox in new system with Win 7, April 2010

You certainly seem to have both dictionaries (en-GB, british-english, and es-es, spanish) installed correctly, no problem there.
You didn't mention which version of Firefox that you installed basically, the english or the spanish version, but I'll assume english here - it may not even matter, as long as both dictionaries are installed correctly, they should be usable.
When you enter text in a text area, you should be able to right-click in the area and from the context menu have a point "Language >" under which you can select which dictionary to use on the page.
To make it even more practical and user-friendly to yourself, I can strongly recommend a Firefox Add-on that I use myself for controlling dictionary selection; the Dictionary Switcher addon. You can get it here: [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3414/ Mozilla Addons] or [http://en.design-noir.de/mozilla/dictionary-switcher/ Authors homepage].
I hope this is helpful to you - if not, please let us know so we can investigate where this fails, and include any detail you can come up with that could help us track down the problem.

• Using VBA - Check to see if Acrobat Pro is open on users machine

Hello all. I have an Access application that generates a bunch of single page PDF reports in a folder on the users machine, then when it is finished, it combines all of the files into a single pdf file on the users desktop. If the user has left Acrobat Pro open before he starts running the reports, when it begins to try to combine the files, he will get an error message.
I would like to check to see if Adobe Acrobat Pro is open early on in the routine so that the user doesn't have to spend so much time regenerating the reports again. I have not been able to find any VBA code that will do this. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
David

Hello Test Screen Name. I do trap for the error and generate a friendly error message to ask the user to close Adobe Acrobat. The problem is, depending on the criteria they select for the report, it could take 5 to 10 minutes before they ever see that error message because of the hundreds of individual pdf reports it has to generate. It is not until my code is ready to combine those pdf files that they see the message. So, it is not really a runtime error so to speak.
But, I found the answer to my question and wanted to share it with everyone. The answers are located here:
API: Find out if an application is currently running
API: Get Class name of a running app
What I did is paste all code from those 2 pages into a new module in Access. Then I made sure that Adobe Acrobat is loaded on my machine. I ran the sub fEnumWindows() and it printed the Class Names of all of my open programs. I got the class name for Adobe Acrobat, which is AcrobatSDIWindow. Then I modified the select case statement in the following function as so, to include the string acrobat and its Class Name:
Function fIsAppRunning(ByVal strAppName As String, _
            Optional fActivate As Boolean) As Boolean
        Dim lngH As Long, strClassName As String
        Dim lngX As Long, lngTmp As Long
        Const WM_USER = 1024
        On Local Error GoTo fIsAppRunning_Err
        fIsAppRunning = False
        Select Case LCase$(strAppName)
            Case "excel":      strClassName = "XLMain"
            Case "word":        strClassName = "OpusApp"
            Case "access":      strClassName = "OMain"
            Case "powerpoint95": strClassName = "PP7FrameClass"
            Case "powerpoint97": strClassName = "PP97FrameClass"
            Case "notepad":    strClassName = "NOTEPAD"
            Case "acrobat":  strClassName = "AcrobatSDIWindow"
            Case "wordpad":    strClassName = "WordPadClass"
            Case Else:          strClassName = vbNullString
        End Select
        If strClassName = "" Then
            lngH = apiFindWindow(vbNullString, strAppName)
        Else
            lngH = apiFindWindow(strClassName, vbNullString)
        End If
        If lngH <> 0 Then
            apiSendMessage lngH, WM_USER + 18, 0, 0
            lngX = apiIsIconic(lngH)
            If lngX <> 0 Then
                lngTmp = apiShowWindow(lngH, SW_SHOWNORMAL)
            End If
            If fActivate Then
                lngTmp = apiSetForegroundWindow(lngH)
            End If
            fIsAppRunning = True
        End If
fIsAppRunning_Exit:
        Exit Function
fIsAppRunning_Err:
        fIsAppRunning = False
        Resume fIsAppRunning_Exit
End Function
Now I can just send "acrobat" to this function to see if the app is open.
Sincerely,
David

• Why doesn't Cyrillic (Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian etc.) OO-based spell check work?

Hi!
The spell-check in OS X has official support for Russian, but it doesn't for Bulgarian, Serbian, Macedonian etc. One can of course use dictionaries from Open Office, install them, and in theory everything should be fine.
I find it that none of the OO-based dictionaries for Cyrillic languages work. No words get underlined -- whether they are spelled correctly or incorrectly. I also installed the Open Office dicitonary for German and it worked without a hitch.
If you are users of Cyrillic languages and if you have added your own .dic and .aff files to your Mac, could you please confirm that everything is working fine for you?
(And, yes, my Cyrillic dictionaries show up in the language preferences and they are all enabled.)
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
All best
Tench

@tenchpsych
Hi there,
The problem with Open Office Dictionaries for Slavic, cyrilic languages, is the encoding CP1251 which OS X does not like and will not combine with its native Western-latin encoding.  However OS X likes encoding UTF-8 and if you follow the steps below you will have a working cyrilic spell check-text-as you type, in OS X system wide.
I just noticed that the sr-SR package is already UTF-8 so you can use it out of the box.
However the Macedonian, Bulgarian and Russian package are non UTF-8.
To make OO non-UTF8 dictionaries work, download them from the Open Office website (dictionary Extentions), change the .oxt extention into .zip.  Unpack them, and browse the unpacked folder. You will only need the following 2 files (depanding which language you download, e.g. mk_MK.dic and mk_MK.aff (or bg_bg, ru_ru dic and aff)
Now here is the catch: To convert CP1251 you need a converter, there are a couple of them online (google Convert cp-1251 into UTF-8), otherwise if you have Windows, open new Notepad document - copy-paste the text and save as. in the dropdown menu as UTF-8)
If you are doing it in OS X open both files in TextEdit, select all, copy the unreadable text and paste it in the online converter.  Hit convert and copy and paste it back in the .dic and .aff files, respectively.  Don't forget to change the encoding command at the top of the .aff file it should read at the top * SET UTF-8 * .  Save and close both files.  Copy both files into /System/Library/Spelling and restart OS X.
Now you have a system wide spellcheck in cyrilic, however it will not work if you choose the Multilanguage option, i.e. in TextEdit to check the spelling (for e.g. MK, SR or BG) you must go to Edit/SpellingandGrammar/ShowSpellingAndGrammar and Switch the language mannualy.  I repeat Automatic by Language will not work for Latin-Cyrilic combination.
These are not very sophisticated spellchecers and may easily miss some mistakes, thus double-check your spelling.
