To the spell checker the word is wrong. It could be the word is right to the OP in this document but not in the next. Why should Pages learn the word?
It's not Pages which learn the document, it's the spell checker.
I wish I could help the OP. Pages on his machine isn't working as it should. Ignore option should take of the red line.
So, my machine is odd too.
When I click ignore, the spell checker no longer halt on the word but it continue to underline it.
As the OP didn't gave a sample we don't know what is the exact problem.
If he want to leave a misspelling in the doc, 'learn' is not a good soluce.
If he want to add a word to the list of allowed words, 'learn' is the soluce.

  • "Alert:  Couldn't contact spell checker" in text fields

Whenever I put my cursor in a text field of any type (login, password, search, filling a form) in Safari, I get a spinning rainbow wheel and then a message that says Alert: Couldn't contact Spell Checker. If I click Okay, I have about two characters worth of typing again before I get the same alert. Making it very difficult to do much on Safari at the moment. This only started recently (within past two days). Any ideas? Can I just turn off the spell checker or auto-fill function to make the error go away?

Thanks, Peggy, I tried this solution, but alas I'm still getting the same alert message.
It is odd, though, that I have Spell Catcher still installed and running on another computer (same OS 10.5.1 and Pages 3) without this problem. Now Spell Catcher has been completely removed from this computer, but the problem persists. Spotlight finds no trace that I ever had CocoAspell (and I don't remember ever using it either).
    Any other notions.
I did, by the way, restart after deleting the traces.

  • In Design CS5 Spell check skipping text boxes

I'm running Mac OSX 10.5.8 on my MacBook.
I am working on a menu with a number of text boxes.  When I do spell check it seems to only check the box where the cursor is located.  I have tried doing Cmd+A ( to select all the boxes on a page) and it doesn't seem to help.
I have dynamic spelling enabled, but there are words I know spellcheck dislikes that don't have red lines beneath them.
I have all the preferences checked and Language:English:USA is in place.  Case sensitive is also checked.
Any ideas?  I'm nervous I'm going to miss a spelling error which will doubtless subject me to endless ribbing from my coworkers.  However, selecting the actual words in each individual text box will take forever.
    Thanks!

That's what I thought, but it didn't seem to be doing so.  There are a number of words I haven't added to my dictionary purposefully - such as bleu - because, while I use them a lot when doing menus, I'd hate to have the word "blue" misspelled in another doc and miss it.
You can create a character style with the language property, such as French, and any other specific properties you like. ID uses the specified [EDIT] language's ]/EDIT] dictionary when spell-checking content, so "bleu" tagged with the French character style will pass the checker, but "bleu" tagged by default as your default language, like the overwhelming preponderance of your text, will be detected as an error.

  • How can I enable spell checking for a text box that is just one line, e.g. subject in e-mail?

In a prior version of Firefox I found a website somewhere that told me what to do to enable spell checking for text boxes that are just one line. I got used to being able to send an e-mail with a Subject Line that didn't have a misspelling. Now it doesn't work. Please tell me how I can enable that again. I am on a Mac using Firefox 6.0.2. Thanks!

    See:
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/layout.spellcheckDefault
You can set the pref <b>layout.spellcheckDefault</b> to <i>2</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Spell check in Webdypro text element

I have a text element in my view after entering text into it a letter is generated with the text in the text element view.
I need a fucntionality to spell check the text that has been entered.
I know there is a standard function module which is used for spell check in the backend sap, but since it has a dailogue popup it will not be able to be called from webdynpro.
would appreciate if someone can provide  a solution for this or atleast let me know if it is not possible at all.
    Thanks,

If you use Firefox, there is a spell check built into the browser itself.  This works fine with Web Dynpro.  Misspellings get underlined in red and you can right mouse click on them to see suggestions.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tjung/4031535997/
Spell check is really something handled much better by the browser itself.  Firefox, Chrome, and Safari all have the feature. Unfortunetely IE6 and IE7  and even IE8 don't have this feature. You can get add-ons for IE that will add in spell check features.

  • How to use Spell-check functionality for textbox (like Orkut, gtalk)

How to use Spell-check functionality for tex Hello Friends,
I am working on a JSP application. I wanted to add Spell check for text box like we have here, when we post a message. It automatically shows red line under the word, when ever spelling is wrong. Please tell me how I can do this. If possible, the code too.
    Thanks.

I believe the spell checking you see here, or on any other site, is the spell checking built into Firefox. At least that's what I see. Are you using Firefox?

  • How do I make pages spell check my footnotes?

I am using a trial version of iWork pages 09 (have bought the software), but it doesn't seem to spell check the text in the footnotes, either as I type (so it underlines errors in red) or when I select the text and choose spell check from the right click menu. Please help, it's REALLY annoying!

Current Firefox versions hide Check Spelling in the right-click context menu of a text area if the web page disables the spelling check via a spellcheck="false" attribute of this element.
You can right-click in the text editor area and use "Inspect Element" to see if this text area has a spellcheck="false" attribute.
Removing this spellcheck="false" attribute by selecting it via a double-click and using the Delete or Backspace key should make the Check Spelling item in the right-click context menu reappear.

  • Text and spell check in languages other than English

I am a linguist who writes papers primarily in English, but which contain a significant number of words and paragraphs in other languages. Is there a way (as there is in MSWord) to highlight these words and passages and choose a different language for them so that the spell checker does not see them as English misspelled words.
Even better would be for the spell checker to identify eventual errors in these paragraphs of foreign languages: However, when I choose EDIT > SPELLING > SPELLING... the spelling checker window has no button or menu allowing the user to select different languages or language dictionaries.
I know that Mail does it automatically for the languages provided. Is there anything comparable in Pages?
Most of the alternative languages I use are quite common, i.e. French, Spanish, Portuguese.

    drew,
Select your paragraph, click on the Text Inspector, More button, then select the language from the menu.

  • Spell Check Text in Spanish in Acrobat Pro 9

I can only spell check in English and I work in various languages. I went to File > Properties > Advanced > Reading, changed it to Spanish
Then Edit > Check Spelling > In Fields editable text, comments  then when it opens it does not show Editable Text.
How do I set my text to Editable Text. I have searched and have not found the solution. There are documents that I have created myself. Thanks for the help ...

Figured out the solution: Go to Edit > Preferences > Spelling > Check the languages you wish to use and move them up to the top. Make sure the language you wish to use in a particular document is at the very top since it seems the Adobe is not intuitive. . I guess it will not check multiple language in the same pdf document.

  • How do I compare these text files (aka spell check)

I'm having the hardest time figuring out how to get this spell check to work. Basically, I need to open the dictionary.txt file and then another file which will be spell checked. Ignoring case sensitivity, punctuation, and word endings (such as ly, ing, s). And then output to the user the words that were not found in the dictionary. Here is what I have so far (and it is very basic.... there is no attempt to compare yet since I don't know how to approach this). Yes, he actually recommends us to use java 1.5. I have revised my code to read into a TreeSet from the dictionary.txt, but I keep getting the following error when I compile:
Note: C:\Jwork\spell1.java uses unchecked or unsafe operations.
Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.
    Finished spell1.
Also, when I execute, nothing happens. It looks like it is going to try to do something, but the "open" dialog box never opens and no errors pop up. It just sits there executing. Any suggestions??

  • Turning off Text Spell Check

Easy one this...hopefully. Can someone tell me how to turn of the spell check type function in SMS mode. It's causing me problems and even re corrects itself when I've gone back and changed it.

Its not going to be changed. Apple designed it that way on purpose, and it's considered a "feature" of the iPhone - one that has been much touted and advertised, called "Predictive Text".
I agree that I would like to see an option to turn it off -- I could type much much faster on the iPhone without the predictive type...but people have been requesting this feature for over a year (along with cut and paste, etc) and there is no indication it will be changed at any time soon.
One caveat though -- touching the X and dismissing the suggestion really DOES work over time -- once you have dismissed a suggested word twice, it really isn't suggested again. Over the course of a couple weeks, it dismisses most of the words it wrongly suggests. Pain yes, but ultimately it goes away if you consistently touch the X and dismiss it instead of pressing any other key.
