Spellcheck is not working

Looks like spellcheck is not working, anything I can do? I
says spell check complete, but I see lots works mispelled, and have
tested this. thanks

Do you have a dictionary installed and selected?
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.
*Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
*Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can enable or disable spell checking globally:
*Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"
You can look here for dictionaries:
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • [solved] LibreOffice spellchecker does not work, version 3.4.2

It's kind of a stupid question, but I do not know how I can debug this. The spell checker exits immediately after "Tools/Spelling and Grammar…" though there are incorrect words, "AutoSpellCheck" also underlines nothing. I set language in the status bar to "English", "Russian", "Ukrainian" — none worked. I have "Russian Dictionaries 0.6" and "Ukrainian spelling dictionary and thesaurus 1.6.0" in "Tools/Extension Manager…" (no English dictionary, strange). I have these packages installed:
    $ pacman -Q | grep -E "libreoffice|hunspell|mythes|hyphen"

I noticed that "Tools/Options/Language Settings/Writing Aids/Available Language Modules" is empty, i.e. libreoffice does not see hunspell.

A friend pointed out I have mispelling on my site:
    HORIZONTAL VS. VERITICAL
so I test the spellcheck today to see if it would catch the veritical mispelling.
It did not, it went past it.
why? thanks, very frustrating. important tool.

    Hey blondgrl53,
Sorry to hear you're having trouble. From your description sounds like you've got something installed in Safari as a plugin. Whatever this "televisionfanatictoolbar" thing is, you should probably get rid of it.
In Safari try going to Preferences -> Extensions and seeing if you have any plugins installed that you can disable. That is likely the reason for your problem.
Another thing you can do is remove your Safari preferences file by doing the following:
in Finder hit command + shift + g and enter "~/Library/Preferences" with out the quotes.
Find the file called com.apple.Safari.plist and delete it.  This is completely safe, all it will do is reset your Safari settings.
If you go to "~/Library/Internet Plug-ins" you can also look in there for anything suspicious and throw it in the trash.
    Hope that helps.

  • I have downloaded the spellchecker & dictionary (U.S.)--it is showing in my add-ons--however it is NOT working--WHY??

I added United States English Spellchecker (U.S.) 5.0.1.-it is in my add-ons, spellcheck is checked in tools options-and I restarted firefox after it said 'successful'--however, it still does not work.
Is there anything else I need to do?
    Please Help!
    TY

Firefox has a spellchecker as standard feature, no need to install it. <br />
Plus, the '''''en-US''''' version of Firefox comes with a spellcheck dictionary.
See if this helps you - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+spell+checker
''BTW, if you installed the SpellBound add-on, did you read the instructions? It doesn't do in-line spell checking as the default spellchecker does.''

  • Spellchecker not working

    Hey guys,
My spell-checker won't work for Pages. I'm sure it's worked in the past but after the recent software update it's not working.
I try to select 'spelling' from the right-click contextual menu and it doesn't open the spelling box...nothing happens. So I can't check my language settings etc...within the spellchecker.
    Any thoughts MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Thanks for the quick response!
Did this and a couple things happened:
    - It kept resetting to 'NONE' when I tried to activate the spellchecker.
    - At one point it couldn't contact the spellchecker (an error message).
    - Then, after selecting all the text, clicking the language to British English and then selecting 'Check Spelling' it finally worked!
    - Only to reset itself immediately afterwards...
    Kinda frustrating, is this normal?

  • Spellcheck is definitely not working!

I only make small mistakes, e.g., an extra "r" or other character, etc. Transparent mistakes that spellcheck had usually picked up prior to Snow Leopard. This has Not worked at all since installation. It is checked in preferences and I do get the red underline with erroneous spelling?

I had tried this earlier too. Take a word like "misspell" misspelt as "mispell". There is a red-underline under "mispell". When I control click the misspelt word it shows a grayed out "no guesses found" in the window that pops out under the word. The menu further states: the word was not found in the spelling dictionary. This happens with words misspelt like "yess", "pleasee", "hellp", etc. These are not complicated errors. I've never been in love with the system spellcheck but it had- prior to upgrading to SL- usually worked with simple mistakes. And yes this applies to Safari too. Thankss (Oops) d

  • I am using FF 5.0.1. The English spellchecker add on does not work.It will underline the misspelled word but does not give you the correct spelling choice.

I did not upgrade to 4.0 because I did not like it.I thought I was upgrading finally to 4.0 assuming at this date they had fixed all the bugs and updated the add ons.
I downloaded the latest version and love it, love it except the one add on that I use more than anything does not work properly.:-(
Please notify the developer of this issue.

    "SafeBrowser'',
No it does NOT show up as I said before the ONLY option is "paste" there are NO suggestions showing up.
As I said before,I have used this same add on for many years and earlier versions and have had no problems until version FF5.01.
    ''cor-el'',
I have already done all that prior to posting here.
Even as I type this response the spell check add on puts a red squigly line under your screen names but does not give me any suggestions.
I am frustrated beyond belief because I am a faithful and dedicated user of this browser and I am going to just roll back to a older version until this silly issue is resolved.
I appreciate all your help but I suppose until the person who developed this add on does something to make it compatible with FF5.01 I will not be using it.
I apologize for any misspelled words but my spell check extension is not working properly. :-(

  • Auto spellcheck not working after a reset

I had to reset firefox and since then my automatic spell check has stopped working. I have been into options and the 'check spelling while typing' is checked. I have rebooted, it is still not working. How do I get it working?

    Hi purplequeennl,
    Did the attribute change?
    In about:config check these settings:
    layout.spellcheckDefault
    It should be 1.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
'''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

I've recently changed my browser to firefox from internet explorer and now the spellchecker doesn't work in hotmail. It says the browser is checking the spelling automatically but it's not. • Firefox English GB Dictionary not working, why not?

I had three dictionaries installed and working fine in conjunction with spellchecker in FF 19 - but having updated to FF 22.0 only English (United States) is included. I have added English-gb numerous times and done numerous reboots and or FF restarts but the English-gb is simply not an option when spelling check queries spelling. The English-gb dictionary shows up in my add-ons but it simply does not work. (the add-on is not disabled either).
Also adding words to a dictionary doesn't appear to work either and may be related.
To summerise: The English-gb dictionary is added as an active add-on but it does not work!
    Operating system Windows 7 Ultimate.

Try to disable all other extensions.
It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar ("Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.
You can also try to delete the localstore.rdf file and the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • Instructions for adding a word to spell dictionary in Pages for iPad not worki g

Instructions for adding a word to the spell dictionary in Pages for iPad say to double-tap the word. At that point you're supposed to be given the option to "define" the word, which I take to be adding it to the dictionary.
Double-tapping only gives me alternative spellings of the word. I don't get an option to define.
    What am I overlooking?
    Thanks,
    Eric Weir

    Not working for me, Demo.
Entering the words in settings would be cumbersome. I have a long document with many unfamiliar names and technical terms.
In Pages with spellcheck on unrecognized words are underlined in red. Tapping once highlights they word in a pinkish box. Tapping twice brings up a list of alternative words in a graphic display rather a text suggestion with option to dismiss. Tapping outside the suggestions graphic cancels it but does not seem to reject the suggestions, I.e., not in the sense that you are then given the option of accepting the word into the dictionary.
Help gives a procedure for doing this, but it does not work.
The document I'm working on is a finished document. No composition or editing required. I just need to get it formatted for publication. Most of the words another recognized by spellcheck, and there are many, need to be enter into the dictionary.
    Thanks,
    Eric
