Spellcheck not working

Hi there,
Spellcheck has suddenly stopped working in both online and offline modes. Has anyone else had similar issues? I have it selected under view options.

I doubt that trashing the .plists for various applications would fix the problem. When a problem only affects one program, but others that use the same service, etc. are unaffected, then the individual program's preference is probably corrupt.
Have you tried logging in as another user to see if the problem persists? If the other account is fine, the problem would be in your account. Other than the Spelling folder in Application Support in my home Library, I can't find anything related to spelling. You might try asking your question in the Tiger forum.

  • Spellchecker not working

    Hey guys,
My spell-checker won't work for Pages. I'm sure it's worked in the past but after the recent software update it's not working.
I try to select 'spelling' from the right-click contextual menu and it doesn't open the spelling box...nothing happens. So I can't check my language settings etc...within the spellchecker.
    Any thoughts MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Thanks for the quick response!
Did this and a couple things happened:
    - It kept resetting to 'NONE' when I tried to activate the spellchecker.
    - At one point it couldn't contact the spellchecker (an error message).
    - Then, after selecting all the text, clicking the language to British English and then selecting 'Check Spelling' it finally worked!
    - Only to reset itself immediately afterwards...
    Kinda frustrating, is this normal?

  • Auto spellcheck not working after a reset

I had to reset firefox and since then my automatic spell check has stopped working. I have been into options and the 'check spelling while typing' is checked. I have rebooted, it is still not working. How do I get it working?

    Hi purplequeennl,
    Did the attribute change?
    In about:config check these settings:
    layout.spellcheckDefault
    It should be 1.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
'''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Spellcheck not working/options missing.

I recently updated to 20 and my spellcheck context menu has vanished.
What if you aren't even given the check spelling or languages menu option yet the broken red line under mispelled words occurs and no spelling suggestions made when right clicking on those words?
    Some additional information:
In my about:config i do have the following in bold:
    spellchecker.dictionary;en-US user set string en-US
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTML/Controlling_spell_checking_in_HTML_forms?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Controlling_spell_checking_in_HTML_forms
(I want spellechecking EVERYWHERE, how do I implement that?)
    Also there is this:
    http://trac.xinha.org/ticket/1119
I do not have xinha installed but the behavior is similar. I get the lines, but no options.

Do you have a dictionary installed and selected?
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.
*Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
*Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can enable or disable spell checking globally:
*Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"
You can look here for dictionaries:
You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

  • Spellcheck not working anymore in SL and Win 7

I've two notebooks, Macbook Pro 2010 running Snow Leopard with all the latest updates and a Windows 7 laptop with all current updates including latest version of Safari.
Spellcheck doesn't put a red line under misspelled word anymore on either systems. Spellcheck is turned on and is set to "Check spelling while typing". Please help me in getting it to work again in Snow Leopard and Win 7.
    Thanks!

How did you downgrade? Where can find the old setup (either .dmg or .exe version)? Thanks in advance!
Others, I still have the issue.

  • Spellchecker not working in FM 12

Spellchecker in FM12 does not find multiple spaces, the word "adn", accept possesives such as "John's" and more.  When is a fix expected?

Have you checked that the paragraphs containing the errors (or if the words are charcter tagged and) have English set as the language?
Is the content created in FM or imported from another source like Word?
Are the errors repeatable, i.e. can you explicitly make those and FM still doesn't find them?
AFAIK, the Spell Checker hasn't been touched since FM10 (except for adding in the Hunspell dictionaries) so the behaviour should be as before. There also haven't been any reports of problems with FM12 spell-checking so far. Have you tried a MIF-wash of the document(s) in case there is some cruft in the files?

  • Spellcheck not working for Outlook or Word docs

    Hello,
I'm having trouble configuring spell check on my MacBook Air.
Text is not highlighted when misspelled, for example "updatd" instead of "updated"
I have followed path Tools - Spelling and Grammar when finishedI have tried leaving text as is, and selecting all text. Neither option picks up the typo.
I followed path Word - Preferences - Auto Correct.
All check boxes ticked under 'AutoCorrect' menu
Language = English AUS (I am in New Zealand)
I followed path Word - Preferences - Spelling and GrammarIn Custom Dictonary field "Custom Dictionary" is checked.
I send out lots emails to clients each day, and create presentations so it's obviously a problem for me - any help much appreciated!
    Cheers

Contact Microsoft support. Those are MS products. Neither one uses the spell checking facilities built into OS X.

So, far I've tried installing hunspell, hunspell-en, enchant, aspell-en. I've also enabled "Automatic spell checking enabled by default".
    pacman -Qqi kdelibs
    Name : kdelibs
    Version : 4.9.1-1
    What can I do? Thanks

Default KDE applications like: Kate, KWrite, Konversation. Etc. Now it works in Konversation and KWrite, in Kate doesn't.
Edit: My fault. KDE is a bit konfusing. Spell check now works in all the above applications. You have to activate spell check for each app in their settings menu.
Anyways, I'm using hunspell + hunspell-en. Why can't I remove aspell and enchant? Enchant needs aspell, kdelibs needs enchant. Dependenception.

  • Openoffice - empty language modules and spel checking does not work

    Hi,
    I installed openoffice-base, openoffice-de and openoffice-spell-de. My /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/dictionary.lst looks ok:

Ive read nearly every hint on the internet to this problem, but nothing works.
When trying to check the spelling, OO returns immidiately and says, its everything fine, even if i have errors.
I tried to install the dictionary again with the OO wizard, but without success. Im getting some Macro error when trying to run it.
Hopefully someone can help me. Im out of ideas
Edit: sorry i just saw, that i posted my topic in the wrong sub-forum. Maybe someone cann move it to the correct one...

  • [solved] LibreOffice spellchecker does not work, version 3.4.2

It's kind of a stupid question, but I do not know how I can debug this. The spell checker exits immediately after "Tools/Spelling and Grammar…" though there are incorrect words, "AutoSpellCheck" also underlines nothing. I set language in the status bar to "English", "Russian", "Ukrainian" — none worked. I have "Russian Dictionaries 0.6" and "Ukrainian spelling dictionary and thesaurus 1.6.0" in "Tools/Extension Manager…" (no English dictionary, strange). I have these packages installed:
    $ pacman -Q | grep -E "libreoffice|hunspell|mythes|hyphen"
    hunspell 1.2.15-1
    hunspell-en 7.1-1
    hunspell-ru 0.99g5-4
    hunspell-uk 1.6.1-1
    hyphen 2.7.1-2
    hyphen-en 2.7.1-2

    mythes-en 20060306-1
    mythes-ru 0.1-2
    mythes-uk 0.1-2
I thought that I missed some package due to splitting, then I installed "libreoffice-extensions". I also tried to downgrade to "libreoffice-3.4.1-1" (non-split) (I have no older packages).

Thanks for your reply, but this does not work either.
I noticed that "Tools/Options/Language Settings/Writing Aids/Available Language Modules" is empty, i.e. libreoffice does not see hunspell.

    $ pacman -Q libreoffice-writer
    libreoffice-writer 3.4.2-2
    $ pacman -Q hunspell
    hunspell 1.2.15-1
    I deleted ~/.config/.libreoffice .

  • I have downloaded the spellchecker & dictionary (U.S.)--it is showing in my add-ons--however it is NOT working--WHY??

I added United States English Spellchecker (U.S.) 5.0.1.-it is in my add-ons, spellcheck is checked in tools options-and I restarted firefox after it said 'successful'--however, it still does not work.
Is there anything else I need to do?
    Please Help!
    TY

Firefox has a spellchecker as standard feature, no need to install it. <br />
Plus, the '''''en-US''''' version of Firefox comes with a spellcheck dictionary.
See if this helps you - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+spell+checker
''BTW, if you installed the SpellBound add-on, did you read the instructions? It doesn't do in-line spell checking as the default spellchecker does.''

You can look here for dictionaries:
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • Spellcheck is definitely not working!

I only make small mistakes, e.g., an extra "r" or other character, etc. Transparent mistakes that spellcheck had usually picked up prior to Snow Leopard. This has Not worked at all since installation. It is checked in preferences and I do get the red underline with erroneous spelling?

I had tried this earlier too. Take a word like "misspell" misspelt as "mispell". There is a red-underline under "mispell". When I control click the misspelt word it shows a grayed out "no guesses found" in the window that pops out under the word. The menu further states: the word was not found in the spelling dictionary. This happens with words misspelt like "yess", "pleasee", "hellp", etc. These are not complicated errors. I've never been in love with the system spellcheck but it had- prior to upgrading to SL- usually worked with simple mistakes. And yes this applies to Safari too. Thankss (Oops) d

  • I am using FF 5.0.1. The English spellchecker add on does not work.It will underline the misspelled word but does not give you the correct spelling choice.

I did not upgrade to 4.0 because I did not like it.I thought I was upgrading finally to 4.0 assuming at this date they had fixed all the bugs and updated the add ons.
I downloaded the latest version and love it, love it except the one add on that I use more than anything does not work properly.:-(
Please notify the developer of this issue.

    "SafeBrowser'',
No it does NOT show up as I said before the ONLY option is "paste" there are NO suggestions showing up.
As I said before,I have used this same add on for many years and earlier versions and have had no problems until version FF5.01.
    ''cor-el'',
I have already done all that prior to posting here.
Even as I type this response the spell check add on puts a red squigly line under your screen names but does not give me any suggestions.
I am frustrated beyond belief because I am a faithful and dedicated user of this browser and I am going to just roll back to a older version until this silly issue is resolved.
I appreciate all your help but I suppose until the person who developed this add on does something to make it compatible with FF5.01 I will not be using it.
I apologize for any misspelled words but my spell check extension is not working properly. :-(
