Spelling error iweb republishes whole site!

Unless I am totally freaking out, I found a spelling error on one of my pages. I hit publish to fix it and it RE UPLOADED (at least it seemed that way as it took 5 minutes) my whole site! I am on a pretty fast connection too.
Seems to me this seems like a way for Apple to get us to buy more .mac space (bandwidth)
Am I nuts?
Is there an answer? The support listed on the website is useless, it is VERY basic.
thanks Laura Drew

it uploads it to your idisk folder. If you go to your
utilities folder and click idisk utility, it mounts
it to your desktop. everything in those folders is in
idisk. pictures, music, backups, web-pages... etc.
Not sure of the point your making here, but it only uploads any differences between your idisk and iweb.
However if you have a local copy of your idisk on your mac, you should be aware that iweb syncs with your idisk which will then sync with your local copy and not the other way around. So once you have published don't expect to see the uploaded files until you next perform a sync of your local copy of your idisk.

Doing the following wouldn't hurt either:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • IWeb quits at half the preparation of the files when publishing the whole site

SOS ! After having saved my site on a local folder, I can't publish anymore my whole site through iWeb to FTP. iWeb quits when arriving at half the preparation of the files for publication. At one moment I had the message "Insufficient memory" (?!?). My site www.yesicannes.com is now big enough after one year of reports published with many pictures, but before I published my site on a local folder, I had no problem publishing frequent updates. But as I published on a local folder, I have to publish again the whole site and iWeb stops all the time before the publication. Any help please ?

I was referring to the group of links on the first page and other pages:
but now realize that's not the part of your site you're referring to.
I'm not sure how you have your magazine site organized. Based on just what i've seen on the first page of the magazine page you could put all of the December pages in it's separate site and link to the site as you link to the pages only they are in a separate sitel
To split the sites, say by month, make a copy of your domain file and name it December.sites2.  Open that domain file and delete all of the pages from it except those associated with December.  Then make another copy of the full domain file and delete all files except those for November.  That should reduce the size of each domain file down to a more reasonable size.
You could do this all locally, i.e. publishing to a folder on your hard drive,  while leaving your online site untouched until you've got it worked out. However you will have to publish them to your server so that you can get the hyperlinks between sites established.  You can do this by giving the sites names, i.e. December, etc. and non with the same name as your current site.  Once you have the new site(s) up and running to your satisfaction change the current site so that the magazine files are not in it's domain file and the link to the magazine
points to the new magazine site.  You'll see what I mean and can refine the concept to fit what you need.  I have a family site that has nearly 80 pages, each of which is a separate site.  So when I finish with a page (nearly all are never edited once they are published) I can put that domain file aside (but backed up) and not have to deal with it.
You can lay it out graphically on paper to get an idea how you will want to separate and group the pages.

  • IWeb sometime uploads just pages I changed and sometimes the whole site

When I make changes to my site iWeb sometime it uploads just the pages I changed and other times it re-uploads the whole site. I have a big site and when it does this it takes along time to upload. Why does Iweb sometimes redo my whole site when I only worked on two pages, while at other times it only uploads those two pages?
    Thanks!

there is a difference. the best thing is that you can control the publishing by, instead of hitting the publish button, you go to the file menu. you then select:
    - publish to .mac (will only publish changes)
    OR
    - publish ALL to .mac (will publish everything)

  • Iweb password protected site has errors

I password protected my site on iweb in the site inspector awhile ago (and published this change).
I go to Safari, and go to my site.
It asks for the password which I put in correctly. I don't check off "remember in my keychain."
It then displays another pop-up that says:
To view this page, you need to log in to area “idisk.mac.com” on web.mac.com:80.
I then enter in my username/password again, and it keeps popping this window open.
I usually end up quitting Safari to get rid of this error.
I tried these steps with just clicking Cancel instead of adding username/password on the idisk pop-up, and it still keeps popping the login window.
So, I tried to login my website on Firefox, and there was no problem whatsoever. I put the username/password in, and it went to the site.
What could be causing the error in Safari?

Have you tried deleting the iWeb preference file, com.apple. iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and then try again.
Additionally, the following was posted on the MacInTouch site yesterday. Although for a different problem the fact that it clears the MobileMe preferences it may help in your case.

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme."
As they say, any port in a storm.

  • Publishing error - iweb won't publish my site

I cannot get iweb 08 to publish my site. I get this error "Publishing error iWeb couldn’t connect to .Mac. Make sure your Internet connection works and try again." However, my iDisk updates just fine, so I must be connecting to .mac, right? Also, when I go to mac.com I'm able to sign in fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I tried that and it didn't work. It seems that the problem was caused by a quicktime video being too large. I re-rendered the video to a smaller size and it published just fine. Thanks for your suggestion. I appreciate it.

  • Cannot update published website without errors: requires deletion of site, then creating a new one.

    Hello all,
This has been a long persisting issue since we purchased Muse in January 2013, but has since then led to a shutdown of my office's website and email in September. Multiple support technicians were eventually able to restore the website, as well as our email function, but the core of the problem lies in the fact that when I update my website, it becomes entirely scrambled, and the only solution provided to me right now is that I need to delete my site completely (through Adobe Business Catalyst) and then create a new one, while transferring over the same domain information. I have yet to receive guidance on how to resolve this issue properly:
September 06 Email: detailing the series of events
    Good evening, Zak,
I am reluctant to bring this to your attention because of the comprehensive nature of the following, but I have been told that my absolute last effort should be to contact you with what has been a persistent problem since the last time we had mediated this particular issue. Essentially, when publishing a website multiple times, sooner than later the format becomes scrambled when viewed online. I am being told I am the only customer known to have this issue, and that it needs to be investigated deeper.
This is a blurb from our original conversation in March 2013:

I'm also puzzled. This isn't a problem I've seen before for a site published to Business Catalyst.
Please try publishing again, this time to a new temporary site (they're free). You can choose this option under More Options in the Publish dialog. I'm curious whether publishing to a new empty trial site works.
If that doesn't work, please send me the .muse file at [email protected] along with a link to this thread. If the file is larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, SendThisFile, WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc.
    Thanks.

    Hi Zak,
I published the website to a new temporary site, and it worked beautifully. Now I just have to fuss with the horizontal bar, and then I'll be super happy. Thank you for your help!
    Sincerely,
    Sarah
Since this bit of advice, I have freely published to a new temporary site every time the website gets scrambled. I have had temporary websites titled:
    argponline01.businesscatalyst.com
    through
    argponline15.businesscatalyst.com
along with a bunch more than I cannot recall.
    and Muse files titled:
    argp-uc.muse
    argponline.muse
    argponline_02.muse
    through
    argponline_05.muse
    argponine_3A.muse
    argponline_3B.muse
and currently, my file name is
    argponline_4.muse (dropbox link)
I am using Muse on a Mac Powerbook, OSX 10.8.4.
I don't know how much of the above is relevant, but maybe it makes a difference to you.
The timestamp on the following thread says September 5th, 2013 4.50AM, but I really sent it the evening of September 4th, 2013. No difference anyhow:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5653912#5653912
What was going on in detail:
    1
I made a few changes to my argponline_4.muse file on September 4th, 2013.
The published website at that point was argponlined.businesscatalyst.com (D).
The domain name was argponline.com .
    (D) was published probably about two months previous, maybe longer ago.
When publishing (D) on September 4th, 2013, the website appeared scrambled.
I tried to publish only modified files, as well as publish the entire site, as well as close programs, and restart the laptop.
I decided to follow the advice given previously, and I published and launched argponlinef.businesscatalyst.com (F).
    2
At this point I have two bookmarked websites for Adobe Business Catalyst Admin Consoles.
For (D), the Admin Console address was argponlined.businesscatalyst.com/AdminConsole/#!/Admin/Websites.aspx
For (F), the Admin Console address was argponlinef.businesscatalyst.com/AdminConsole/#!/Admin/Websites.aspx
I was able to sign into both.
When signed into the Admin Console for (F), I tried to Add a New Domain, but was told that I only had a plan for one hosted website through Adobe Business Catalyst, and that I would need to purchase a plan that offered more hosted websites.
I signed into the Admin Console for (D) and deleted the domain, but given the option to keep associated files just in case, I opted yes, to keep them.
When signed into the Admin Console for (F), I tried to Add a New Domain, but received the following error message:
Domain already exists. Please delete all records associated with this domain before re-adding it.
There was nothing visible though the Admin Console for (D) to delete the associated records, so I deleted site (D) in its entirety.
I continued to try to Add a New Domain for (F), but continued to receive the same error Domain already exists...
    3
At this point (the morning of September 6th, 2013) we have the following set of parts:
The published and launched site is argponlinef.businesscatalyst.com (F).
For (F), the Admin Console address is argponlinef.businesscatalyst.com/AdminConsole/#!/Admin/Websites.aspx
The website is now completely down, and I have disrupted email service for the office.
I chatted with Lokesh, who determined this was a technical issue, and I was forwarded to Anshul.
    Anshul's assessment is as follows:
Anshul: I see the error, Sarah it seems there are some Domain traces left with the system , I tried to clear then out and I am getting errors as well. In this case , we might need to escalate the case to higher level to have deeper investigation related to this issue.
Anshul: Sarah, the issue is the domain not the site. It seems like there are some traces related this domain in the backend. This issue is more of related to BC and not Muse. I will have this issue escalated and checked with the team and request them to run internal queries to clear the traces and then you should be able to add the domain.

Soon after I received the following message from Matt Baracz:
Matt Baracz (Adobe Business Catalyst Support)
    Sep 06 10:50 (EEST)
    Thank you for contacting us.
I have escalated this issue to our engineering team and have requested them to clear any references to the domain argponline.com from our database. Once cleared, you will then be able to re-add the domain successfully to your site.
As soon as I receive a response from engineering confirming that this has been actioned, I will let you know directly via this support ticket.
    Regards,
    Matt.
Around 3 or 4pm, I had not heard anything back, so I attempted to Add a New Domain through the Admin Console for (F). (Turns out Matt works in Australia, and was unable to alert me due to the time zone difference. Understandable!)
This was done successfully, so the website began to work again, but the email was still down.
    5
I began a chat again, this time with Srividya. I was transferred to technical support and began conversation with Sanjit. The length of our conversation was probably around 3 hours, and I am so grateful for the time he put in. What a great guy.
He stated that he had gone through the case details and that Engineering had fixed the issue. We spent some time coordinating the Site Domain information through the Admin Console for (F). Ultimately, email is still not working (settings were probably updated around 5pm), but I understand sometimes it takes a while. Just wanted to note, the last time I updated the email settings it worked within a couple minutes. Varying lengths of time are expected, but I am still curious what effects those variations. Regardless.
    6
    The current situation is this:
My boss is a bit steamed that our website was down for a day and a half, and that our email is down for a relatively indeterminate amount of time. It's bad for business, and ultimately, I am responsible for these disruptions. I am incredibly concerned that the next time I update our website there will be a slew of problems, which have the potential to knock down service for the website and email again. I am desperate for a surefire way to simply and fluidly update our Adobe Muse website to Adobe Business Catalyst without making the same mistakes again.
I don't believe I did this the right way. I looked at FAQs, Community Forums, goDaddy Support and anything I could lay my eyes on to try to do things properly, but managed to make a few well-intentioned blunders. I continued to try undo the damage I've done in the past couple days, and with utter frustration, have not been able to fix them on my own. The people who have helped me thus far have done an amazing job, but ultimately, I am happier when I am not taking up their time, or panicking here.
When I first launched the website a few months ago, there was a step-by-step process that took me through every single action with screenshots included when appropriate. It was exponentially helpful. I was so lost without it this time around, and I was wondering if I could access it again in the future if needed.
The following is a blurb from my conversation with Sanjit tonight:
Sanjit: You have purchased Muse subscription , correct ?
    Sanjit: or Creative cloud >
Sarah Rushing: Yes, we purchased Muse for 1-year, as well as Business Catalyst for 1-year
    Sanjit: Perfect
Sanjit: With Muse you get 1 free site , so once you create a site and then publish to BC. In admin console you launch the site, that makes your free count used. Now if you create another site, then system asks you to upgrade the site to a paid site plan. ut when you delete the previous site then the free count becomes free and can be used for any other site
Sarah Rushing: Yes, that is what I did. Is this what I need to do each time? Because I am concerned that the email and website will be disrupted every time I need to make slight adjustments to the website?
Sanjit: No, you dont need to do that everytime. If the site is scrambled everytime you publish then please report to us. Thats not the ideal way for solution.
Sarah Rushing: Well Sanjit, I can tell you right now, that is how it has been functioning since we bought the program. I am not entirely certain, but I believe we bought Muse and BC in January.
Sarah Rushing: I can absolutely guarantee you that the site will inevitably scramble. Am I the only customer you have heard of to have this issue?
Sanjit: Yes, i have not seen any other reports for this issue
Sanjit: Well this needs a deep investigation
Zak, anything that you could offer for clarity of process, would be incredible. I don't know if you will have time to look at this before Monday, but I can tell you I will be available at a moment's notice to fix this issue and to learn anything about Muse and Business Catalyst that you have to offer. Thank you for your time, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
    Sincerely,
    Sarah Rushing
I'm concerned that no one will really read this because it is so detailed and boring and comprehensive, but it is absolutely critical that I find a proper solution before the next update to the website. Thank you so so much to anyone who can possibly provide some insight into this issue.
    Sincerely,
    Sarah Rushing

In case anyone is experiencing the same issue, I am trying this today.
Sachin: Okay Sarah, so is it everytime you try to republish the website, it gets scrambled?
Sarah: Yes, that is correct. And the solution thus far was to publish to an entirely new site, meaning delete the existing one on Business Catalyst and transfer the domain information.
Sarah: The last time I did that I experience a slew of issues that resulted in no website and email for 4 or more days. My boss was very angry.
Sachin: Sarah, can you publish your site as a new trial site once.
Sachin: And provide me the URL.
Sachin: Then republish on the same trial site and let me check the results.
Sarah: If I updated the published site within the period of a day, it will be fine. It is when I update the next day or later than that, then the website appears scrambled. So I can create a trial site for you, but it will behave normally for now.
Sachin: Sarah, while republishing the site, did you select "Only modified file" or "All files" while publishing?
    Sarah: I tried everything.
Sarah: I made a few changes to my argponline_4.muse file on September 4th, 2013.
Sachin: Okay. there is one  more thing I would like you to try.
Sachin: Publish a site as a trial site.
    Sachin: Then wait till tomorrow.
Sachin: After that login to the admin panel of the site.
    Sarah: Okay
Sachin: There go to Site Manager>File manager
Sachin: There will be a file there named Muse_manifest.xml
Sachin: Delete that file and then republish the  site from Muse.
Sarah: So in the Adobe Admin Console, underneath Site Manager, I see Web Forms and System E-mails. No file manager?
Sachin: Please hover the muse on your name at top right corner and click  on My details.
    Sarah: Okay, yes.
Sachin: Now scroll down  and check the option that says Enable online content editing (incompatible with Muse)
Sachin: And  then click  on save.
Sarah: What does this do, and why does it say it is incompatible with Muse?
Sachin: It will help you see  other options in BC.
    Sarah: Okay, thank you.
Sarah: I see the File Manager now
    Sachin: Okay.
Sachin: Now select the file named Muse_manifest.xml
Sachin: And use the delete button on the right side.
    Sachin: but do it tomorrow
    Sachin: With a trial site
Sachin: Not with  the live site.
Sarah: Okay, could you please explain to me what deleting that particular file is supposed to do? I am just very interested in how this works.
Sachin: This file contains the information about your last upload.
Sachin: Deleting it will make sure that "ALL" the files are uploaded again from Muse.
    Sarah: Okay, so:
Sarah: I will publish a trial site.
    Sarah: Wait until tomorrow.
Sarah: Publish again. If I have an issue, I can log-in to the admin console for this particular trial site and go to Site Manager --> File Manager, and delete muse_manifest.xml.
Sachin: I will create a case for you and you can respond to the case.
    Sachin: Correct.
Sarah: After that, I will try publishing again and see if it resolves the issue.
Sarah: That would be great, thank you Sachin.
Sachin: Thank you for contacting us. Have a Good Day!

When I republish my site the updates save to a different folder within public_html so it cant be viewed..... How do I change this?
My site is up and running but if i make changes on iWeb they get put in a new folder within the public_html folder. I then click on this and they are all showing in there but i have to manually move them to the correct folder for them to be shown on my website. The folder that is made is always named whatever I enter into the SITE NAME section on the screen where the ftp information is entered.
How can I get the updates to go directly into the public folder without it make a new folder? I have checked the settings but there isn't much I can see.
    ALSO......
The names of the folders come up in the domain bar... how do i change this?
    thanks

  • Changes in nav bar are seen in iweb not on site

I had to change the name of the home folder (apparently vertical lines are not allowed). I changed it to "Home" and the changes took effect in iweb. The changes are not occurring on the live web page. The original HOme page folder name remains. The links from two other pages back to it do not work. WHY in the world will the nav info not update?????? I republished the site to a folder (many times to keep trying to make it work) and re-uploaded files to internet (many times). This is extremely frustrating. I've already spent hours finding a work-around to another problem with this program (regarding splitting up multiple sites since iWeb won't let you publish them). Does anything in iWeb actually work?
    Thanks for your help.

If it's not looking right in the local folder, it will likely not look good when you update it at your website.

  • IWeb not publishing site updates

Starting today - 5/18/09, A site I have in iWeb is no longer publishing updates. The site publishes to my mobile me account, and is redirected to my domain. This is the page in question - http://www.pitassidesigns.com/Portfolio/Web_Design.html
Besides the code iWeb puts out I have added the favicon code, and Google Analytics Code. For some reason when I made some changes to some images, they do not appear as they should. The first image should be swapped with the second, and now the second image is gone. The google code, and favicon code it still there, and I usually have to re-input it after updates. Also the page in iWeb remains red, as if it was not published. I tried to delete that page and file folder from my idisk, and iweb doesn't publish a new one as it should. I tried restarting and nothing. I tried publishing the whole site, and it remains the same.
Any help would be great, I don't feel like manually writing this page out in Dreamweaver, iWeb is so much easier.

Ignore this. As usual when I decide to post this it works on the 10th try. Not sure what happen there.

  • TS2580 i have problem to republish my site

Hi I have trying to republish my site using iweb ftp server but it does not working longer!? Help me please! Mizu

If you're using iWeb 08, which is iWeb 2, there is no built in iWeb FTP client. What version are you using and where are you hosting your website?

  • IWEB - web.me  -site name contains duplicate entries in the name

After having link problems in my site, I deleted all entries and republished by selecting "Publish Entire Site". The site was rebuilt, but instead of the site name being http://web.me.com/membername/Welcome.html
    it is
    http://web.me.com/membername/http__web.me.commembernamey/Welcome.html
The site name displayed in iWEB and the Mobile Me site publishing settings is correct. I have tried to rename and republish the site, but the duplicate name still exists?????

you will always see double names.
The only reason it is "double" is because You gave your site the same name as your url, instead of something short and simple.
Wish there was a solution that the data is saved in the directory itself and not in the sub.
You can ask Apple to offer that option here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
But I think it's unlikely because truncating the site structure like that makes the RSS Subscribe links on blog pages non-functioning.

  • Republished entire site–7 out 14 podcast not loading

After updating iWeb, I republished my site that I had been working on. www.rcogop.com the podcasts are under RCOGOP Sermons. All of these podcasts were created in Garage Band using the same file by dragging the main track out and replacing it each time, export to iTunes, Convert to mp3 to cut down file size, rename, placed into iWeb via the media browser, published to my server account via FTP .
All of these podcasts are newly published at the same time. The three at the bottom of the list work and the four at the top of the list work. The four in–between do not work. The page for the podcast opens as usual. Where the controler bar should be, is a transparent Quicktime icon.
The actual media files are on the server and will play in Safari. If I log into my FTP account via Safari and click directly on the file it opens in a new window and plays.
This is what's puzzling me. If, I open the site from a folder on my computer everything works. It is only when I publish it to the Server that it doesn't work. Note again only some podcasts do not work.
Apple Care tech''s told me to delete everything on my server and republish. I did all 86mb. Takes a while with a 256kb upload speed.
Why would some of these podcasts not link correctly?
Has anyone else had this trouble?
Any, help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
    Imac 17" –1.8 G5, GeForce FX 5200   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB Ram

I created a new podcast series and started from scratch using the same format the same audio files the same everything. I basically copied and pasted all of my text and images over from the old series.
    (The only changes)
    1. Instead of using the media browser, I drug the audio straight out of the finder.
    2. I renamed the audio files with shorter names, no spaces and no hyphens, commas, apostrophes etc...
    3. I noticed some of the dates did not match from the entry to the entry list. I corrected them. NOTE (This did not affect the podcast working. Some of the ones with unmatched dates DID work. All of the ones that DID NOT work had dates that matched in both the entry and the entry list?)
After I finished the new series, I deleted the old one, saved (+S), published to a new folder and uploaded the site after deleting everything on the server again.
    (My Suggestion)
    1. DO NOT edit a podcast series created before the 1.1 update after updating iWeb to 1.1.
    Start a new series
    (Comment)
I like iWeb for its simplicity.
I don't like not being able to view the HTML for trouble shooting.
But, I suppose that goes beyond simple.

  • User Spelling errors

I have created loads of PDF's
for my media students to type into, scripts, planning, storyboards etc...
My students are 13 to 16 and they do make spelling errors, when they do the whole user entered text in the pdf disapears untill you click on it and it prints out blank also.
    Any ideas ?

Spelling errors are nothing to do with printing. There must be some thing else going on. If you can email me a copy of one such form at "n_varma AT lycos.com". I would try the same and see if I can help you with any ideas.

    Hi roddy,
thanks for responding. I read your link, looked at my settings and they were all correct. I tried to do a republish and got this message: The requested URL /childrenandcaring/index.html was not found on this server.
When I type the address in the address bar, I go to the site and the page says: This is the new site childrenandcaring.com
    Any other ideas?
