Spelling/grammar error notification in Word for Mac 2004

Is there a way to set up Word so that a sound will indicate an error as you are typing?
Thanks!

Hi Leslie .....
As you know you can setup MS Word for mac to underline "in RED" during typing the misspelled word.
Right click on it and "chance it" if not in the suggested word list you can added the word to your wordbook.
But, I think that you did know this already ...
*Also the question you put is here can be very annoying during typing ... to hear every time a "SOUND" would get you out of your concentration, by this way you could make more mistakes as usually*
It's up to you IF you still looking for a script or anything else to check misspelled words.

IVe just upgraded to Mountain Lion OSX and lost use of word for Mac 2004. how can i get in to work again

Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Can't print using Word for Mac 2004 to any printer

I bought a MacMini in January and a MacBook in June, Still using Word for Mac I bought years ago. When I try to print documents, only a line or two prints, sometimes not even that. I've tried printing from the Mini to an Epson Workforce 500 and from the MacBook to a Ricoh 6400. Very frustrating, and I have to get syllabi printed for classes.

I just googled word for mac 2004 and found the requirements "10.2.8 or higher". There were quite a few changes in Snow Leopard, so a lot of applications which still would work with Leopard no longer work with SL. I also checked this site for SL compatibility and it is not even listed:

  • Can I use Word for Mac 2004 to write basic solver/Macros programs?

I just bought the new macbook aluminum unibody. I am in college and am taking computer programming in fall, I need to be able to write basic programs that utilize macros and solver. I spoke with one mac person who told me I would need to buy parallels, the microsoft OS and then microsoft word for Microsoft OS.
However, that costs upwards of 200$ for a class I am only going to be taking for 2 months. Someone else has told me that the 2004 version of Word for Mac has macros abilities on it (those that are not on the current version, but that the 2011 version will have). Can I just use the 2004 version? Or does anyone have other suggestions?

  • Microsoft word for Mac 2004

I have created a document with newspaper columns. Its uses headers and footers. When viewed in page layout mode it looks great. However, if I do a print preview the headers and footers have disappeared and some of the text is missing. I have tried setting the margins using page setup but it seems to make no difference. It is as if word has one idea about the layout and print preview a completely different one.

    Hi Louise,
It likely has to do with your printer margins. Inkjet printers in particular have a large area at the bottom which can't be printed on since the stepping rollers can't push the paper any further when the printer reaches the end of the sheet. It's not at all unusual for such printers to have an inch to an inch and a half margin at the bottom.
So if your document is fit tightly to a U.S. Letter size page, that's why your print and print preview dialogues are being messed up.

  • French character (accent grave) in Word for Mac 2004

How do I insert an accent "grave" (as opposed to the opposite accent available by typing Option + e)?
    Thanks!

If your keyboard has the accent/ tilde character in the upper left (` and ~), you should be able to use option plus that key and then your vowel: è.

  • French checker on Microsoft Word for mac

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone got the french spelling/grammar checker on microsoft word for mac to work? I'm not exactly sure how to set it up, so any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!!

yes - it is included with Word.
If you haven't installed it get your install disks and do a custom install of proofing tools - lots of languages to choose from.
Then in Word set the document, or text selection, language to the language you are using. It does the rest.

  • Resizing problem in Word for Mac 2011

In Mountain Lion, when I open the Spelling and Grammar options box in Word for Mac, the bottom of the box is below the dock so I cannot see the "save" or "cancel" buttons. I see no way to resize the box. Any suggestions?

Oh, I thought you were referring to the Spelling and Grammar box when you click on Tools in the menu. I am on an iPad (not at home at the moment) so I can't try out options. You can try posting to the MS support forums here:

  • Conversion from .docx to Word for Mac OR Pages

I'm using a 2009 MacBookPro, IWorks/Pages and 2004 Word for Mac. I'm currently in download ****, courtesy of Microsoft.
I wrote a document using Word for Mac (2004). I sent it to a friend for editing, she returned it in a .docx format. When I tried to read it, I couldn't. THe error said it "Couldn't find a converter for this file format." It offered a download. I download both the updates for Word and the converter. NADA.
I have Pages which is supposed to read all these formats, yet it's not doing it. I've tried the MS route. How can I read this timely document? It's only 1 hour away from White Collar. Help!

According to p34 of the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf:
*Opening a Document from Another Application*
You can create a new Pages document by importing a document created in another
application, such as Microsoft Office 2007 or AppleWorks. Pages can import the
following file formats: plain text (.txt), Rich Text Format (.rtf and .rtfd), AppleWorks 6
word processing (.cwk), and Microsoft Word (.doc).
It does not say it can open .docx
Have you tried opening it with OpenOffice (free)? I think TextEdit might be able to open it as well as it saves to it.

  • Since downloading Security Update 2012, Word for Mac no longer able to save or save as documents;  program freezes after clicking save

Since downloading Security Update 2012, Word for Mac 2004 is no longer able to Save or Save As documents.  After clicking Save or Save As, the program ceases to respond and must be Force Quit.  Any tips on making Word functional again?

There was a second Security Update (v1.1).  Did you download that one.  It was supposed to have fixed the problems created by the prior update.  At least is solved my problems with Quicken 2007 for Mac and AppleWorks 6.

  • Right mouse click in word for mac

i just bought a g-5 intel core duo and i love it. though i am an experienced mac user this is my first time with the mighty mouse and i miss the right mouse click when i am in word for mac (2004): with my old mouse i could right mouse click on a word and get immediately into the thesaurus/dictionary, whereas with the one-click mighty mouse i have to go to tools, then thesaurus or dictionary, which takes several clicks. is it possible to program the mighty mouse so that i can get with one click to the thesaurus dictionary? thanks in advance. mmvski from amsteram

Are you trying to do this in Word for Mac or Word for Windows?
The Mighty Mouse buttons can be programmed on Mac OS X using Apple menu --> System Preferences --> Keyboard & Mouse.
On Windows go to Start --> Control Panels --> Mouse.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Format menu button missing from MS Word for Mac

    Hi all,
This is driving me crazy! My Word for Mac 2004 works perfectly, usually love it, but for some reason, the format menu -which I use to customize my default bullet and numbering lists, paragraph spacing etc. -is missing from the top of the screen. I've got File, Insert, View, Edit, Font, Tools, Table, Window, Work, and Help, but no Format. Lately I've been getting by just using my formatting palette and formatting toolbar, but it's really not enough. Also, the toolbar button from the Insert button is also missing.
I feel like I'm going nuts! You know how you'll look everywhere for a pair of socks and then find it right in front of your nose? Please, someone embarrass me with an easy answer!

Since Office is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered

  • WORD for Mac gone forever?

Can someone explain in plain English why I no longer can use my favorite word processing program after installing Lion?   I know it has something to do with Rosetta which is Greek to me - what is it?   What are the politics behind it?  Is it financial?  Does it have to do with "turf war" between Apple and Microsoft?
Now I will have to learn how to use the Textedit program which on the surface looks rather anemic.  All my files ending with .doc can no longer be read.  However, I can still access them through Time Machine.
Are there any decent word processing programs that are compatible with Lion?   Any free ones?

As it happens mine is Word for Mac 2004.   Well, I followed your very helpful recommendation and uploaded LibreOffice which looks just like Word.  This program also allowes you to convert all the Word 2004 files into a readable document with an .odt extension.  If there was a way I would give you 1000 points for your help.
