Spill Aftermath

I recently spilled a glass of a delicious red wine on my T520 after which I followed all the prescribed steps to avoid wine within the unit.  Long story short the laptop now boots and runs normally, and will connect to any wireless network HOWEVER it will not establish an internet connection neither wired nor wireless.  The bluetooth is unaffected but I am unable to access the internet.
Does anyone more knowledgable than I have some intuition what is wrong and what I may (or may not) be able to do to rectify it?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Hi RedRackham,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I am sorry to hear that your system is having a issue after liquid spill on you ThinkPad T520.
Check your laptop owner's manual and disassemble the laptop and check if there is any damage caused from the liquid spill. Use isopropyl to clean up the board, if you find any dirt sticking to the board.
Note: You really should use high quality alcohol. Poor quality alcohol may have impurities that can harm the circuitry.
ThinkPad T520 HMM
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

    Gorgeous Hello All,
If anyone of you can please provide me a solution for the following, will help me in plentious and galore.
Am using Adobe RoboHelp, Version 10 and IE version being 10.
    A hurdle :-
I have a application which has been developed in ASP .NET, Version 4.0. Help link has been created in this application wherein here the Start up page of index.htm has been linked to be read from the RoboHelp local project folder\!SSL!\Multiscreen_HTML5\desktop. All are working absolutely fine except when
I login into the above-said application -> click on the Help page -> the index.htm opens with Contents, Index, Glossary -> Am able to successfully perform any task by respective clickings
-> But I am not able to get back into my application when I click on the IE provided Back button (Alt+Left) -> Any amount of invoking Back button makes the system getting looped into this Start up page of index.htm only -> When I Close Tab (Ctrl + W) or Close ( X ) -> The window session gets closed and I have to repeat all by relogin once again.
How can I get back into my application aftermath invoking Start up page of index.htm ?
(I can always get back into the application easily by erasing those parts in the url which refers to this RoboHelp linkages – but this certainly looks non-polished work)

Hey Jeff, I used Internet Explorer 10.0.9200 and Google Chrome 26.0.1410. Alas - it is the same behavior.
(But Jeff : When I used Microsoft HTML Help as primary layout to generate chm file , My Help when launched from my Application opened in a new browser window and when I closed this Help browser window did not close my application. Looks like need to write few liner code to get this issue settled )
Thanks Indeed of lots for your concerns Jeff !!!

I have a Macbook Air that had some coffee spilled on the keyboard and as a result the plus/equals key is no longer functioning. Can I use a program like Ukelele to re-program another key to do that function? Can I re-program a function key to do this function?

Water + electronics do not mix.  Something was damaged insode, and the logic board may be corroding as is.
Take it to a Genius Bar for an evaluation and repair estimate.
This is accidental damage and not covered by warranty.

  • How do I get the coffee stain out of my MacBook Pro screen? Spilled coffee on it e

I spilled coffee on my MacBook Pro this morning .... used the cool setting on my blow dryer for 20 mintues to dry out the keypad ....
Switched it back on in 4 hours .... everything works , except I now have a coffee stain behind my screen .... is there a way to absorb that out
or do I have to buy a new lid for my computer ?

You might have to have a new screen installed.  It's not too expensive ($160) and it's DIY, if you have the right tools and skills.

If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

  • Macbook Air keyboard dimly lit after spill...

I spilled liquid on my keyboard a little while ago, and it wasn't the first time. I cleaned everything up, but afterwards I noticed that the left half of my keyboard is lighting up much dimmer in comparison to the right side. Also, sometimes when I plug in my charger, the light won't go on when I attach it or it only works on one side when I flip it over. I'm not good with tech-y things, so it would be impractical for me to take my entire computer apart and it would be easier to have it repaired. I'm just wondering if there's an easy solution to fix this, or what the repair cost would be. I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013). Thanks!

Make sure you have a good solid backup!!
You're lucky your computer is working at all.  That state may not last long.
Follow John Galt's advice and have it looked at as soon as you can.

  • Mid 2010 MacBook Pro no backlight following keyboard spill.

I am new here.  Can I get help with a mid 2010 MacBook Pro?  It appears to have a LED backlit screen.  A keyboard spill left me with a display problem.  In bright light at the right angle you can see that the display is still working, but there is zero backlighting available.  I have replaced inverters on other machines in the past with this problem, but they were not LED backlit.  I think this problem is different.  Can someone give me a clue what to do to fix this please?  Thank you!!!

I wouldn't be concerned with the backlight.
    Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • Mid 2010 MacBook pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but display is sooo dark - like no backlight.  I think this is an LED screen.  Does anyone know the fix for this?

Hi all...  My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but the display is very very dark.  A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light.  I think this model has an LED screen.  Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is?  Thank you sooooo much!

  • I spilled a jar of water on my macbook

Okay. So I know there are a thousand posts about this but I cannot seem to find one that describes this situation. I spilled a large glass of water on my macbook keyboard. After just staring in absolute shock for a second or two the screen turned into the one from The Ring except rainbow color. It was terrifying. I quickly powered it off and kept it open, upside down (even on my commute home on the LIRR!). This travesty happened Thursday late afternoon. Then today, Sunday, a few hours earlier than the 72 hr mark I decided to see if the computer would accept a charge (I have been a PC user all my life- I didn't realize that by plugging it in it would subsequently turn it on!) but sure enough there was that magnificent apple and the computer was a bit slower than usual but everything powered up just find and even loaded previously opened web pages and unsaved documents. The keys worked (albeit a little slower) sound etc. The only thing was the computer didn't charge on it's own. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and the battery could not be removed. Sadly I bought this computer from a friend for only $650 bc she got an air and now I think it might cost me more just to fix it :( anyway, the computer couldn't charge on it's own. Then the cord accidentally got removed from the computer and the whole thing shut off which was no surprise. This evening (after a few hours of it being off) I tried plugging it back in and...nothing. Turned on the power - NOTHING! When it's plugged in the amber light is still present on the charger so there must be some sort of connection going on there... But I'm terrified now that I've messed everything up even though it didn't shut off on it's own and was working fine for about 4 hours until it became unplugged. Is this just a fluke? Right now it's resumed it's position of being upside down and off. Should I take it to an apple store? I know I need a new battery- but I'm scared for my hard drive! Please tel me what this sounds like to you :(

Every time you try to power it back on you're causing more and more and more damage
Stop doing that obviously, however now it's likely too late for most all but data retrieval on your hard drive and saving the monitor.
yes, your notebook was dead, then you fried it again and again some more.
contact Apple for extracting your hard drive or have a computer tech do it for you for data retrieval.
    Peace

  • T410 : keyboard problem after juice spill

    Hi,
I have recently spilled some fruit juice (sweet and sticky) on my t410's keyboard. Here are the problems caused and the different steps I took to try and solve them :
    1. Switched off the laptop, waited a day. Switched it back on. The laptop worked normally except for various keys, mostly in the first row of letters (qwertz...) that didn't work (didn't react when pressed), and others who were sticky and got stuck when pressed.
    2. Took out the keyboard and soaked it in alcohol (normal alcohol as I couldn't find isopropil alcohol) to wash out the juice deposits. Wiped with towels, then let it dry half a day. Put it back in. It was worse than before, the power button seemed to be shorted or sth. The laptop could not be tuned on with the power button. It could be turned on using the fingerprint reader though. But then it had a strage behaviour, kept turning on and off on its own.
    3. Took out the keybord again, removed all the keys, including the power/mute/volume... Sprayed it repeatedly with contact cleaner (Vistony brand, made in Peru) . Then let it dry. This didn't improve much.
    4. Waited over the week end, tried again. Now the power button works. When I turn on the laptop, before it can boot, it beeps repeatedly and shows an error essage : "error 210 stuck key : 10". Using an external USB keyboard, I can press escape, and boot to Windows. But the laptop's keyboard is unreactive and there is a continuous beep (frequency of about 2 beeps per second, continuous). In the Lenovo diagnostix test for the keyboard, none of the keys work.
Is there anything I can do to try and recover the keyboard ? Or just buy a replacement ? If I could at least get rid of the beep, I could use the laptop at home with the external keyboard, until a solution if found to fix the laptop's keyboard.
    Cheers

    dondrito, welcome to the forum,
I admire your determination to save your keyboard, but honestly feel it's time to part yourself from it and accept it has sadly departed and find a replacement.
An option would be to attach the system to a port replicator or mini-dock, which have power on switches, detach the internal keyboard from the mainboard and start the system from the port rep. or mini dock after attaching an external keyboard to either or your notebook. Not a good solution if you need to travel.
p.s. a port rep. or mini-dock will cost more than a keyboard.

So The Serial Number W80201QNATN is from your original invoice when you first bought the MBP. The same serial number is on the body of the MBP. The same serial number shows up in System Profiler when you start the MBP.
That all matches with the information given from one of the links I posted earlier. It fits your MBP perfectly:
    Serial number: W80201QNATN
Name: MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 13 inch)
    Group1: MacBook
    Group2: Pro
    Generation: 71

    introduced test: 2010 (0) 1
    introduced test: GOED

Family name: Become a pro user to see this information. (sorry)
    Screen size: 13 inch
    Screen resolution: 1280x800 pixels

Now this is a serial number you provided earlier: 34031968Atm Where does this come from?

Any ideas how I can get around the password and login. I tried the method where you go into single user mode and type in commands, however that method uses some of the letters that are not working on my laptop.

You didn't mention which version of OS X your running but there are password reset utilities provided OS X: Changing or resetting an account password (Snow Leopard and earlier) - Apple Support  or  OS X: Changing or resetting an account password - Apple Support
Alternately you can use an external keyboard to log in and change the password. Make a backup if you don't have one, it's likely that your problems aren't over. If that water continues to migrate downward and fries the logic board your macbook will be toast.

  • Macbook Air trackpad seems to be a little sticky, no damage or spill.

I haven't spilled anything or damaged my laptop, at all. It has been a little over a year since I purchased the Macbook Air, but I think my warranty or free service repairs or whatever have just recently expired. My trackpad seems to be sticky, like it is stuck down the slightest bit or something. It still works fine when I move my finger around on it, but the clicking is just a little difficult and irritating (especially right clicking). I was wondering if and how I could fix this. I have learned that if I click it fairly hard repeatedly it will work perfectly, but after a very short period of time it will go back to being seemingly slightly stuck down or sticky. Also, as the days pass, it is getting worse. Any help is greatly appreciated! I just don't know why this would happen if it has been treated with care. Thanks!

  • Need help with vomit spill (yes, really!!)

Sad, but true. My son had his iBook on his bed with him when he vomitted. He said he didn't think he had gotten any inside, but it wouldn't turn on. I brought it to the Apple Store and they sent it out for repair. The tech person called me and said there was major spillage and since it involved bio-hazardous waste, they couldn't do anything with it. He said that we should buy a new machine, because, at the very least, we needed a new logic board, DC-In board,CD/DVD drive and hard drive. When we got the iBook back, I brought it home and figured I would open it up and see what I could do (I am a novice with Apple, but have worked on PCs for years.) When I pressed the power button, I was shocked (and very relieved) to see it start right up. I browsed the web, opened up some programs and everything seemed to work. But, I realized that the battery was not charging at all - it kept losing power gradually and would not charge. So I decided to open it up and clean it. I took the lower case off and there was quite a bit of residue. I cleaned the shield and removed it, and very carefully cleaned the logic baord and DC-In board with barely moist Q-tips and a soft dry brush. I thought I had done a good job. When I put it back together again, the battery successfully charged, but I have been able to start up the computer only once since then. I have since opened it 3 times to clean, even taking off the upper case once (but finding no eveidence of residue). I went back to the Apple Store and spoke to a "genius" who made a couple of suggestions, but none worked (OptionCommand+PR to reset the PRAM, and ShiftControl+OptionPower to reset something else - I forget what). Nothing worked. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't think the logic board is fried because it did work after the spill(although I realize I could have damaged it while cleaning it). Thanks for any help.
    iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3)

You didn't mention whether the keyboard got the spill but I would assume so. Anyway, The keyboard would need to be dissasembled (all keys removed etc.) in order to clean it. As a test, you could disconnect the keyboard and try booting it. If it gets to the login screen, the next step would be to either clean the keyboard, replace it or at least try an external USB keyboard.

  • Macbook Pro 13'' Early 2011 Power Button not responding properly after spilled drink.

    Hi Everyone
I've spilled beer on my old macbook last december. I've reassembled pretty much the whole mac, cleaned the motherboard with Servisol (isopropyl alcohol) and applied new thermal compound. The mac is working (if turned on from the motherboard, however the power button doesn't work properly. If pressed several times, sometimes it either changes the brightness of the screen or takes you to the widgets.
The keyboard was disassembled and cleaned and everything else apart from left shift and power button appears to be working on the keyboard. The keyboard was disassembled soon after the spillage, which was few months ago.
As it was few months ago when I cleaned the keyboard, I''ve forgot whether the power button is a part of the keyboard or an individual module. Could anyone give me some advice on that? Any other suggestions regards to the power button?
Another problem I've encountered recently is lost administrator account (after an attempt to turn the mac on). I can only access the guest account, my main account doesn't even appear on the launch. I can still see the administrator's files, but can't access them as they're locked. Is there a way to get back the account or access the files from the computer?
    Many Thanks. Damian

    Hi M,
There are other threads here with similar issues. I do not know if a "common" fix has been found. Try an SMC Reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If no luck there, your Mac has a one year hardware warranty and I would contact AppleCare.
