Spilled Coffe on my Pavillion DV5

I spilled coffee onto my keyboard and I am trying to restart the computer.  I turned the notebook over and drained any coffee and used a blow dryer to try and dry more.  The power light goes on but I do not get anything on the screen.  What do you recommend I do next?

Seems like a hardware issue. Doesn't look good. Take the hard drive out and tryaccessing the BIOS.

BIOS-Tap F10 as soon as you start the notebook up without the Hard Drive.
If this doesn't work i would either
1. Call HP @ 8004746836
OR
2. Get a local repair man to take a look at it.

  • Airport Express connectivity dropouts on HP Pavillion dv5 (Windows 7)

Hi - I am running a brand new Time Capsule (firmware recently upgraded) with several machines and OS'es but have great problems with a HP Pavillion dv5 upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium.
The network drops off constantly, and according to the PC's network centre it is the connection between my airport and the Internet that goes down - *not the wireless* - though you never know who to believe with Windows . My other machines have no problems.
I have tried unbinding IPv6, upgraded all drivers, BIOS and firmware for all involved hardware, I have tried flipping practicallyt any setting in the network center and the router, change protocols and channels, turn stability on and off etc.
    Any hacks?

Put the old hdd back in and immediately after powering on the laptop start tapping the F11 key to see if it will boot into Recovery Manager to reinstall Vista. See the section here "Starting a recovery from the hdd & the computer is off":

If this is successful and you get Vista back up and running on the old hdd_next burn your Recovery Discs set which can be used to boot from and install Vista on the new hdd:

  • HP Pavillion dv5-1235dx laptop - No audio from built in speakers of recently purchased laptop

I purchased my laptop (HP Pavillion dv5-1235dx laptop) from best buy on Saturday, May 9th, less then a week ago. Yesterday the audio/sound stopped working completely - from the built-in speakers.  I can hear ALL sound just fine from headphones.  Only the internal speakers aren't funcioning.  I did online troubleshooting, and also chatted with a technician, and I still have the same problem.  I ran all updates, the status on the sound driver says it is funcioning properly.  Even the little fluctuating green bars (on the volume control) SHOW that sound is coming out, but still unless I have headphones in, no sound comes out.  The HP monitering software DID pop up and say there were critical errors and the computer needed to be updated yesterday, but I don't know if that was related because once I did all the updates, the audio still had the same problem.  Please help me out.
    Thanks,
    Kalli

If it is less then a week, just return it to bestbuy. You may have a loose connection in speaker jack.
Have you try to use recovery DVD? try to install it to the factory setting.
If it does not work, definitely you have a hardware problem.

  • Pavillion dv5 1015ea processor upgrade

I can't find anywhere the type of this notebooks motherboard:
    HP Pavillion Dv5 1015ea Specifications
I would like to upgrade the processor with a better dual or quad core that can run on the boards bios and voltages.
Does anyone know what kinds of prrocessor upgrade I can make to this board ?
Also my laptop has 4gb of RAM yet I am unabvle to find the correct 8GB upgrades throu the HP portols!.
    thanks

There is a conflict between the Service Manual which says 4 gigs and the specs you have posted which say 8 gigs. I guess I would go with the 8 gigs; what do you have to lose? The T9900 may or may not work. You can give it a try but when the Manual only lists the T9600 the BIOS may not recognize the T9900 and there is no place to go to get that information in advance. I have given you the safe answers...4 gigs/T9600....if you want to gamble a bit go 8 gigs/T9900 but don't complain if it does not work.
HP does specify the motherboard model (it is an HP...laptops are one of a kind proprietary designs unlike desktops) and the chipset and the Service Manual specifies what hardware the system is designed to work with. I deal with all models of laptop and HP provides just as much information as any other laptop maker...Lenovo, Toshiba, whatever. Officially, laptops are not to be upgraded at all so this is a bit of a guerilla art.

  • Battery for Pavillion dv5

    Hi Everyone!
I need some help. My battery is not charging anymore and I think my netbook therefore needs a new one.
    Model Number: dv5 -1290eg

    P/N: NG153EA#ABD
It says on my battery the following thing: Replace with HP Spare: 484171 - 002
And it also says: CT: 6ACFK03TZWRDOE
I checked the page, but somehow I can't seem to find the right battery.
I'd be very grateful if someone could help me out on this!
Thanks for taking your time to read this.

    Hi,
Based on the following store, the numbers are not the same:

  • Pavillion dv5-1002nr says: "hard disk test" hard disk not exist

how do i fix this myself or can i?

    Hi
It sounds like the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.
That is a fairly easy job for someone to do themselves.
However you will either need to have a set of recovery disks to reinstall the operating system or purchase some.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. See chapter 4, pages 62 and 63 for the procedures on replacing the hard drive.  Don't throw it away because you will need to remove the caddy and screws to use on  the new one you buy.

  • Pavillion dv5 1235dx won't charge.

I just installed windows 7 on the hard drive after a full wipe, now that the software is up and running the LED for the power adapter will no longer show that the battery is charging and even if the laptop is off it still refuses to charge. I was going to run the BIOS flash to see if that would solve the problem but it says to do it with external power connected and I'm afraid to do it under battery power.
This is NOT the first time it has happened, the first time it stopped I had it checked under warranty and HP replaced the hard drive for what seemed like no reason at all.
Also, there have been intermittent cases where the laptop has refused to charge and unplugging it from it's current outlet and into a different one has solved the problem, but this time it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.
    Any ideas.
    Cheers/

    Hi,
First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.
Now, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start without the battery inserted, if it does, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and theMicrosoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and selectUninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the notebook on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes without doing anything. Then shutdown the notebook again.  Plug the AC Adapter back in and Start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue.
    Best wishes,

  • Pavillion dv5-1002nr with 32-bit Vista

Using HP Recovery Disks, the notebook prematurely shuts down. The recovery was started due to stability problems resulting in Vista not loading. During some of the running of the Recovery Manager, the error message has occurred:
    STOP:c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectantly with a status of 0x00000000 (0x0000001 0x0010037c).
The system has been shut down. Any ideas? Is Vista still on the Hard Drive?

    Hi,
    To answer your questions.
    1.  Regarding the Hard Drive, you are in no way restricted to a particular manufacturer, so you may well find it cheaper to buy the HDD from somewhere like Amazon.  According to Page 62 of your Maintenance & Service Guide your notebook can certainly take a 320Gb HDD and again, if you wanted to, you could install a 7200rpm drive if you wished ( you may lose a little battery life, but hardly noticable when weighed against the performance increase ).  I would stay away from Advanced Format HDDs though.
So to sum up, any 320Gb Sata II ( 5400rpm or 7200rpm ) HDD will be fine - an example would This Hard Drive.
    2.  You can use your existing HP Recovery Discs to reinstall Vista on the new HDD - they will also reinstall all the original software that was bundled with your notebook as well as re-creating the Recovery Partition on the new HDD - a guide on using your set of Recovery Discs to install Vista on the new HDD is Here.
    3.  Why the drive failed is impossible to say without further analysis - the average lifespan of a HDD is between 3 - 5 years however some fail much sooner while others last far longer.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
    Best regards,
    DP-K

I don't see anything there that requires removing the keyboard to access the hard drive.
