Spilled Coke, cleaned up....

Hello all, I'll try to make this as short as possible.
Small amount of Coke spilled on side of Mac Mini Intel 2.26. Coke was cleaned up. Opened the case and found that what Coke that had splashed in, was pretty much dried. I used alcohol and q-tips to clean up all residue.
All put back together. Plug it in.... and.... no video, no start up sound.
The power on light is white and comes on. It sounds like the DVD/Fan starts up. After about maybe 5 secs, the white light goes out. Then a second later it comes back on white. Again DVD/Fan sound noted.
When I plug in a Mac keyboard, it doesn't seem to be getting any power. I press the Caps Lock button, and no green light.
Ok, feel free to give it a shot... BTW, this was my wife's Mac and she spilled the Coke not I said the fly....
Thanks

take the machine to an Apple store or AASP near you and have it looked at.

  • Spilled coke on keyboard

I have recently bought macbook pro in april and I accidentally spilled coke on my keyboard today. I used dryer to dry out my keyboard. But I think it has affected my keyboard. I can feel the keys are not working properly when I type. What should I do? Please help me. My laptop is brand new and I feel so sorry.

Read this for an overview of the consequences of a liquid spill:
    http://www.tekserve.com/service/spill.php
The article is obviously intended to attract business for TekServe itself, but it is a very fair satement of what spills can do and what needs to be done about them, regardless of who actually does it.
The enormous amount of sugar in a Coke will not evaporate away, but will remain where it is unless cleaned up. It will make your keys stick, attract insects, and by drawing moisture out of the air whenever the humidity is relatively high, it will promote corrosion of any metal with which it is in contact. The acidity in the Coke will give the corrosion a head start. Your machine needs to be completely disassembled and have all damaged parts cleaned or replaced. If you had only spilled water on it you might have gotten off more easily, but there is hardly anything worse that can be spilled into a computer than a sugary soda. Fruit juice is probably the closest contender.

  • Stuck key, spilled coke on it

I spilled coke on and under my laptop.
Now it comes to a Windows Resume Loader and I cannot even go up to choose or hit enter, because this key somewhere is stuck. None seem stuck.
I can't even get my comp on! What should I do!? Thanks.

  • Spilled coke on macbook

I feel like crap now, but last night I spilled coke on my 4 month laptop.
I tried to look up online to see what to do and they told me to take out my battery and
dry it as much as possible which I did. when I took out my battery it wasnt wet except for a drop.
My hard drive was also not wet except for a couple of drops. I'm taking it to the apple store tomorrow
but I wanted to know how much the estimated amount I would have to pay to get it fixed be.
When it spilled the speakers sounded strange and the battery lights on the left of my macbook
would start blinking when pressed. I took out the charger and put it on a dry towel.
Please help and maybe give some advice or tips. Please and thank you.

They will offer them. But if you don't buy them, and have an accident before you buy them, you will still be stuck with the full bill for repair.
When you first bought the Mac, you should have considered what you were going to bring into the room with it, read the manual that came with it, which clearly says that it is NOT indestructable, and asked around about accident protection programs which do exist for it, as we have indicated Safeware is one many know about. This is a good lesson for you to read the warranty that comes with the product it says that they are not responsible for any accidents.
Unfortunately your complaints are specious because you did not read the literature that has been available from the beginning.
In the future buyer beware. Always read what comes with a product, and never assume it comes with it without written justification.
I'm sorry, but my college would not allow anyone into their computer rooms with food or drink. If your school did not make such restrictions, that's a failing of the school system you are in.

  • Spilled coke on keyboard, any cleaning advice?

    Hi All,
I am using the Spiceworks Help Desk, when I click on the 'Apps' button I notice that I also have the Inventory, and Product Reviews Apps installed. I am now wondering if I can add the Network Monitoring Software from Spiceworks through the 'Apps' section of my Help Desk, or do I alternatively need to install the Network Monitoring Software separately?
If a separate installation is required will it conflict with the Help Desk in any way, for example will they both try to run from the same HTTP port?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Davo

  • Spilled Coke on screen. Help please...

Alright, so I managed to get the Coke off in time before there was any major damage, but then I noticed the screen. From a glance one would think it appeared fine, but upon closer inspection, I see a huge ugly-looking spot.
I believe I have the glossy widescreen display.
What is this? What happened? Is there any way to easily fix this?

Just clean it. There is some expensive LCD screen cleaner you can buy, or just mix distilled water and isopropyl 50-50. Dip a microfiber cloth in it and very gently wipe the screen, then use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe it dry. Be gentle, and if there are any large particles try to brush them off instead of wiping them off.

  • MBP Latest Edition (2013) Spilled Coke on Keyboard

    Hi,
There is a similar thread on this forum and I could not find a way to tag along my issue so I am starting this new one.
I bought and threw away a keyboard guard from Apple Store. It was just too sticky and was reducing the pleasure of owning and using a MBP.
On a recent flight a couple of days ago I spilled coak on the computer and the passenger next to me. I didn't immediately turn it over since I was in shock of a few seconds. I dried it all up.
Now a couple of keys are sticky and I can here the srtticky sound when I press them. The D key is one of them. Most of the keys are okay.
On my first generation MBP I was able to remove individual keys although I now don't recall why I would have done that. I am not going to open up the MBP and can live with the sticky sounds. The keys don't actually stick.
Are the keys individually removable? If I could remove the keys I can clean the underside.
    Thanks in advance.
    Farzad

Turn it off.  Leave it unplugged.
Take it to Genius Bar and get a professional estimate of repair cost (not our useless guesses).
Expect tp pay much, as accidental damage is not covered under warrantry.

  • I spilled coke on my trackpad

My trackpad works but like before i press i add just a little pressure (not enough to click it) and i hear a noise like something is sticky down there

You're beyond liquid damage at this point if there was enough current to cause the spark and damage you show in all likelihood the logic board is now gone also.
Hopefully your homeowners insurance will help you out in any case use this as a learning experience (although an expensive one), one never have liquids of any kind but especially soda, near a computer. Soda is one of the worst liquids you can spill on just about anything from our stomachs to our electronic equipment (nobody would drink this stuff if they saw what it did to metal!). And two never open up an expensive piece of equipment if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing. And if you do open one up do not use a screwdriver or other metal device to pry apart components. There is a reason the tool used to do this is plastic.
Finally if you insist on drinking and computing get yourself one of these Moshi ClearGuard Keyboard Protector for Aluminum MacBook (or something similar) its a small investment that goes a along way to protect your expensive computer.

  • Laptop screen spilled with cleaner

My laptop screen has been mistakenly filled with water. Please help me the easiest way out of this problem.

You can try to get it off by getting a bowl and putting some rice in it and then put your phone in then putting in more rice. something like that happened to my brother and he put his phone in rice. rice absorbs water so you should try it

  • Caps lock green light not working after coke spill. Help!?

    Hello.
I accidentally spilled some coke on my brand new macbook pro! I can't believe how horrible this year has been for me so far. I rarely even drink coke! Anyway, I cleaned my macbook with some dry towels, then some laptop cleansing wipes and then I used a vacuum cleaner to get all the liquid out from underneath the keyboard. Everything's working fine. It's just that my keys are super sticky. Any help with that? I tried taking the keys off and cleaning them - no luck so far.
Then I realized that the backlights from some of the keys aren't as strong as the other ones.. Can I do something about it?
Also today I realized that the green light from the caps lock button isn't working properly. It lights up whenever it wants to and such. Help?
If I was to take my laptop to get it fixed, what would it all cost me? My macbook is barely a month old and I've already caused such a chaos.
Could anyone give me a decent answer to my questions? It would be very much appreciated!

I'll take it to a friend who's an IT tomorrow. If he says that I must take it to the repair facility then I definitely will. Also, it wasn't a dollar can of coke. I had a glass which I didn't even take next to my MBP. Then for a second to plug in my charger, I put it down next to it and that happened. It's not sloppy care. I take care of it more than I've taken care of anything. Spilling coke on it was my mistake and I hope it'll never happen again. I am facing the consequences. For anyone else who's in the same situation or is just interested- I'll let you know how this works out.

  • Qosmio X500-02m does not power up after spilling fluid

    Hi guys, first post here.
Sadly I spilt coffee over my laptop.. the phone rang and i turned, knocked it and you can guess the rest... This happened in October. I had more or less written the machine off but thought I would post here..
Within about 3 seconds if it happened the laptop went off - there was no sparking or abnormal noise, just sounded like it normally would if you shut it down.
I took the power/battery out and turned the laptop upside down.
I let it dry for over a week but there was no joy at all after that time, not even a power light or noise, nothing at all.
Any opinions on this? I've not been stupid enough to ever spill liquid on a PC before. I purchased the PC when I was in Australia the whole time I was there it was insured, upon returning to the UK within three weeks I had done this to it.. which makes the situation even more annoying!
The coffee was spilt into the bottom left of the machine (as you look at it from the front). I've cleaned up everything that could of been connecting the circuits but still no joy from it but there doesn't seem to be anything or substantial value there. I was wondering what would be the best way to approach getting this repaired? I'm guessing it would involve a whole new motherboard but I'm not sure of the price of that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Cheers,
    Ben.

    Hi
Guess what: this happened to my friend too.
He spilled coke and the notebook went off.
We tried to power up the unit but after one, two seconds the notebook powered off again.
I though the motherboard has been damaged.
But we checked the notebook with new modules and it worked again!
Fortunately only one of the modules has been damaged due to the fluid and the mobo was ok
I think you should also check this maybe just the modules are affected
But of course, in worst case your motherboard might be damaged and this would mean that you need to replace this expensive part

  • Is my mac fried?

My friend spilled coke on my mac and luckly I was able to clean it up somewhat. After it dried the enter key and what's right above it were sticky. I then took the battery out , sprayed some eyeglass cleaner used to remove grime under the keys and worked them a bit. They keys now feel fine. I let my mac sit for about 30 minutes then booted it up. It worked fine for a bit, but now it randomly shuts down. When I boot it back up has the recovery screen ( the one you see when you've let your battery die completely ). It was connected to the charger the entire time. Could it be the spray shorting something because it wasn't dry? Can I fix it? Thanks.

    Wow- that stinks.
Unfortunately, your mac may very well be fried. The problem with soda is not just that it's a liquid that can conduct electricity and short things out in your computer. Soda also has a "ton" of chemicals in it including sugars. These chemicals can deposit and cake on to the components of your computer- what this "crust" does to the parts is anyone's guess: it can insulate components (increasing heat), in can conduct electricity (shorting out the computer), or simply lock moving components so they don't function properly. I think the only to do, is to dismantle it and clean it thoroughly. When doing so, be sure to have a few cans of compressed air (from radio shack or elsewhere) and rubbing alcohol (never use water). Good luck.

  • How I fixed my T61 fan at no cost

Anyone who owned a T6x for more than a couple of years might have noticed that the CPU fan becomes increasingly noisy with time, no matter how well the machine is kept.
So my fan sounded like something was stuck inside. I ordered a new fan, but its delivery was delayed and I was so annoyed by the noise that I took the old fan apart. Believe it or not, I fixed it with three drops of bike oil. Now it is perfectly silent: no added noises other than that of the air flowing. Few weeks have passed and so far so good.
This is what I did in detail:
extract the old heatsink/fan assembly (no need to take out the motherboard, just remove the palmrest, the keyboard and the upper frame)
drop 2 or 3 drops of bike oil inside the fan motor (no need to dismantle the fan/heatsink assembly)
blow air on it and make the fan spin, then clean the oil that spills (I cleaned with a soft brush); do it again and again until no oil comes out
    carefully clean the heatsink
apply some good thermal paste to the heatsink
    put everything back together
    enjoy the silence!
Please post on this thread your success&failure stories on this procedure.
Do this at your own risk: I take no resposibility for whatever damage your laptop may incur to.

I don't understand where you left the oils drops. My fan seems to be inside a black plastic cover ..

  • Replacing keyboard keys

Am I able to go to an Apple store and have a few keyboard keys replaced? A few of them have become sticky due to a minor liquid spill, (after clean-up) but are still fully functioning.

Not likely. Stores don't usually stock keycaps, and I don't believe Apple supplies them individually. Your best bet is to find someone who has a dead keyboard to get them from.
But stepping back to the actual problem: it's very unlikely that any liquid has remained on your own keycaps if you've given them a good wash, so it's equally unlikely that replacing them will remedy whatever is causing them to stick. The problem is almost certainly below them.
