Spilled coke on keyboard, any cleaning advice?

Hi All,
I am using the Spiceworks Help Desk, when I click on the 'Apps' button I notice that I also have the Inventory, and Product Reviews Apps installed. I am now wondering if I can add the Network Monitoring Software from Spiceworks through the 'Apps' section of my Help Desk, or do I alternatively need to install the Network Monitoring Software separately?
If a separate installation is required will it conflict with the Help Desk in any way, for example will they both try to run from the same HTTP port?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo

  • Spilled coke on keyboard

I have recently bought macbook pro in april and I accidentally spilled coke on my keyboard today. I used dryer to dry out my keyboard. But I think it has affected my keyboard. I can feel the keys are not working properly when I type. What should I do? Please help me. My laptop is brand new and I feel so sorry.

Read this for an overview of the consequences of a liquid spill:
    http://www.tekserve.com/service/spill.php
The article is obviously intended to attract business for TekServe itself, but it is a very fair satement of what spills can do and what needs to be done about them, regardless of who actually does it.
The enormous amount of sugar in a Coke will not evaporate away, but will remain where it is unless cleaned up. It will make your keys stick, attract insects, and by drawing moisture out of the air whenever the humidity is relatively high, it will promote corrosion of any metal with which it is in contact. The acidity in the Coke will give the corrosion a head start. Your machine needs to be completely disassembled and have all damaged parts cleaned or replaced. If you had only spilled water on it you might have gotten off more easily, but there is hardly anything worse that can be spilled into a computer than a sugary soda. Fruit juice is probably the closest contender.

  • MBP Latest Edition (2013) Spilled Coke on Keyboard

    Hi,
There is a similar thread on this forum and I could not find a way to tag along my issue so I am starting this new one.
I bought and threw away a keyboard guard from Apple Store. It was just too sticky and was reducing the pleasure of owning and using a MBP.
On a recent flight a couple of days ago I spilled coak on the computer and the passenger next to me. I didn't immediately turn it over since I was in shock of a few seconds. I dried it all up.
Now a couple of keys are sticky and I can here the srtticky sound when I press them. The D key is one of them. Most of the keys are okay.
On my first generation MBP I was able to remove individual keys although I now don't recall why I would have done that. I am not going to open up the MBP and can live with the sticky sounds. The keys don't actually stick.
Are the keys individually removable? If I could remove the keys I can clean the underside.
    Thanks in advance.
    Farzad

Turn it off.  Leave it unplugged.
Take it to Genius Bar and get a professional estimate of repair cost (not our useless guesses).
Expect tp pay much, as accidental damage is not covered under warrantry.

Spilled Liquid on Keyboard!!!!!!! NEED HELP
Posted: Jun 23, 2009 6:32 AM in response to: ovacs Reply Email
    Hi,
I spilled juice on my keyboard and at first it was just my left shift key that didnt work then the keyboard would only be in caps. Now it is acting really slow as well when I open and close things it looks like its sucking them away.
I took it into an apple retailer who said to keep it tipped upside down for a day and said he could replace the keyboard. Then I went to a Apple store (one on their site) who said they could open it up (for more of a cost) and see what was wrong.
Any advice would be great. Is it fine to just put it between books and keep the keyboard facing down. Blowdry?
    Thanks

Liquid spills are usually disastrous — more so when the spilled liquid is sugary and acidic like fruit juice. Your keyboard will certainly need to be replaced because the keys will become sticky as the liquid dries. Your warranty is now substantially or wholly invalid too, so not only will the spill repair not be covered, but subsequent problems you might encounter won't be covered either, at least not unless you pay Apple to go through the machine completely and replace every part that was affected by the spill. I'm not sure whether your warranty would then be reinstated or not. I hope it would. You should ask.
Simply letting the machine dry with sugary residues inside will be a mistake: Whenever the weather is humid, the sugar will draw moisture out of the air and get sticky again, and the acids in the juice residue will corrode any metal parts with which they are in contact. That's a recipe for a short-lived MBP.
    Read this article:

Tekserve is obviously interested in promoting its own services, but the article also contains a lot of good information about what must be done to clean and repair a spill-damaged Mac.

  • Spilled coke on macbook

I feel like crap now, but last night I spilled coke on my 4 month laptop.
I tried to look up online to see what to do and they told me to take out my battery and
dry it as much as possible which I did. when I took out my battery it wasnt wet except for a drop.
My hard drive was also not wet except for a couple of drops. I'm taking it to the apple store tomorrow
but I wanted to know how much the estimated amount I would have to pay to get it fixed be.
When it spilled the speakers sounded strange and the battery lights on the left of my macbook
would start blinking when pressed. I took out the charger and put it on a dry towel.
Please help and maybe give some advice or tips. Please and thank you.

They will offer them. But if you don't buy them, and have an accident before you buy them, you will still be stuck with the full bill for repair.
When you first bought the Mac, you should have considered what you were going to bring into the room with it, read the manual that came with it, which clearly says that it is NOT indestructable, and asked around about accident protection programs which do exist for it, as we have indicated Safeware is one many know about. This is a good lesson for you to read the warranty that comes with the product it says that they are not responsible for any accidents.
Unfortunately your complaints are specious because you did not read the literature that has been available from the beginning.
In the future buyer beware. Always read what comes with a product, and never assume it comes with it without written justification.
I'm sorry, but my college would not allow anyone into their computer rooms with food or drink. If your school did not make such restrictions, that's a failing of the school system you are in.

  • I gave my Apple Wireless Keyboard a cleaning

I gave my Apple Wireless Keyboard a cleaning using a damp cloth and dishwashing soap. None of the keys have worked since. Although I was careful, some water may have gotten under one or two other keys. But none of the keys work, and when they do, they do so erratically. Is there any hope?

    Hello:
Let it dry out thoroughly.  It is possible that whatever you spilled into the device will evaporate.

  • My daughter put a thick layer of vaseline on my key board. I wiped it off but have found that residue is coming up from the cracks between the keys when I type. Any cleaning suggestions?

At least vaseline is non-conductive. It might be easier to replace the keyboard.

  • I have a Macbook Air that had some coffee spilled on the keyboard and as a result the plus/equals key is no longer functioning. Can I use a program like Ukelele to reprogram a different key to be my plus/equals key? Can I program a function key? key

Water + electronics do not mix.  Something was damaged insode, and the logic board may be corroding as is.
Take it to a Genius Bar for an evaluation and repair estimate.
This is accidental damage and not covered by warranty.

  • Macbook pro 15" mid 2010 i spilled water on keyboard now it wont power on if the battery is connected and the keys on keyboard doesnt work it works fine with no battery and external keyboard if i order a battery and new keyboard will every else work again

macbook pro 15" mid 2010 i spilled water on keyboard now it wont power on if the battery is connected and the keys on keyboard doesnt work it works fine with no battery and external keyboard if i order a battery and new keyboard will every else work again lik it did before

If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

    Hi Gurus,
Yesterday we had SAN storage problem from our unix admin and all the databases were down due to the san problem.
all the mount points are now ok and when i started one of the database i got this problem

please any one advice me how to mount my database, i am not having backup of contol file too...
    thanks in advance

Did you multiplex the control file ? May be you have multiplexed on another file system with names like control02.ctl, control03.ctl... etc. If yes, just make a copy of control02.ctl and put in the location of control01.ctl. Also rename the copy of control02.ctl to control01.ctl and try to restart the database.
If only one control file was there, then you have to re-create the controlfile. Please go through the following docs.
    http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10g/server.101/b10759/statements_5003.htm
Also before doing anything, please take the backup of your database (ofcourse in this case it will be cold backup).

  • Hi, I just downloaded IOS 8 on my iPhone 4S. Can't restore my settings nor synchronise anymore. Any helpful advice ?

Hi, I just downloaded IOS 8 on my iPhone 4S. Can't restore my settings nor synchronise anymore. Any helpful advice ?

FYI downgrading is not supported by Apple which is why you don't readily see information on how to do so.
If you have indeed done everything in the article mentioned.
Disconnect device, take screen shot on device, and attempt again
    - also make sure if you have parallels are disabled while testing.

How do I remove the space key on my keyboard for cleaning underneath?

Don't.  It will void the warranty.  Take is to an Apple store or an AASP and have them do it.
