Spilled soup on MBA keyboard, now Keyboard will not function

spilled soup on MBA keyboard, now Keyboard will not function. it initailly worked for a while, but after a while the keyboard doesnt respond, not even the power button (holding it down). if i have to bring it to apple. how much would it likely cost... i am really having rough times with money, and was about to sell it... Thanks

That all depends on whether any of the soup made it past the keyboard to the motherboard. If it did then the MB may be toast.
Go to ifixit.com and look up your MBA. If you can remove the keyboard, rinse it very thoroughly with distilled water (distilled water is non-conductive) followed by a rinse with pure isopropyl alcohol (not the 70% stuff you can get in a drugstore) to absorb the water. Let it dry for a few days in a desiccant (put it in a porous bag (pillow case or similar) and add the desiccant over and around it and then place that in an airtight container. The more desiccant, the better.) A good desiccant is clay cat litter, baked in an oven for a few hours @ 300+ °F. Afterwards, cross your fingers and plug it in.
Careful, the alcohol is flammable.

  • TS3173 how can i do any of this if my screen is black and my keyboard will not function?

I have an iMac A1311 21.5 inch screen.  I have installed Windows 7.  It worked for 5 days.  Now I push power button, hear the startup chime and the screen stays black.  They keyboard or mouse do not appear to be functioning, therefore I can't reset PRAM or anything else.

Exactly how did you install Windows 7, did you use Boot Camp? If so then please re-post in the Boot Camp forum.

This is quite frustrating, since it randomly occured as I was browsing the web.  It seemed to happen out of nowhere.  I cannot login to my user account because I cannot type my password.
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you have another Mac, boot the non-working one into Target Disk Mode (holding down "T" at startup). Hook up the two Macs via a Firewire cable. The non-working one will mount on the other Mac as an external Firewire HD.
Next, download the 10.5.6 Combo update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1056comboupdate .html
Run it. When it asks you for a destination, choose the other Mac that was mounted via Firewire. When it's done, unmount the computer and restart it. The keyboard and mouse should work now.

  • Keyboard will not repeat

hi...since i upgraded from snow leopard to mountain lion...my wireless keyboard will not repeat keys
and yes i have tried adjusting it in prefs...also i am limited in my knowledge of puters..

Key repeat was semi-eliminated in 10.7. Characters that have accents (vowels, n) now show options for accents when they're held down in Apple's applications. Consonants, for the most part will repeat.
To re-enable key repeat, copy and paste this into Terminal and restart:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
(This may not work with some custom keyboard layouts or in all applications.) To go back to the default setting, enter the same command into Terminal, substituting 'true' for 'false'.

  • My Apple bluetooth keyboard will not connect to my Macbook (it was connected before)

    Hi
My Bluetooth keyboard (model A1314) was connected to my Macbook.  I was away on a trip and now it will not connect.  A message comes up saying "error connecting to device".  I have tried everything that I can think of - replaced the batteries, removed the keyboard from the Bluetooth list.
I would be grateful for some advice please!
    Thanks!

    Try resetting the SMC.

  • My iPhone keeps freezing when I am texting, the keyboard will not come up.  I have to turn it off or reset it to get keyboard to come up.  How can I fix this?

In text or email, the keyboard will not come up.  I have to reset phone or turn it off to get started again.  How can i fix this issue?

    Hello Jennings Castle,
It seems your iPhone is slowing down and not responding frequently. To rectify this issue you may want to consider performing a restore on the device, and then restoring your data from a backup via iCloud or iTunes.
If the issue persists after restoring your backup, you would then want to consider restoring the device and setting it up as new. Below I have linked to article which offers guidance on both of these restore methods:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups - Apple Support

Try powering off your iPad by holding the power button and sliding the red slider when it appears, or try resetting your iPad by holding the power and home buttons together until the apple logo appears.
I would also highly recommend an app for facebook, it's called MyPad.

My ZAGG keyboard will not auto-cap, How do I fix that?

What MacBook? How did you try to 'play' CDs? What happens? Does it happen with a specific CD, some CDs, or all CDs? Does it happen with data CDs, or audio CDs, or both? Does it happen with commercially-pressed CD, or CD-R, or both?

  • Working with the MS Word iPad and other office apps: Onscreen keyboard will not minimize

With Microsoft's announcement today of allowing limited editing capabilities in their mobile apps, I installed the updates on my iPad.  So far, everything works great...with one exception:  The onboard keyboard will not get out of the way...won't
    minimize.
I have last year's iPad Air and was trying to use my Bluetooth keyboard with each of the MS Office IOS apps.  Consistently, across all of these apps, the keyboard would stay on the screen and the key for minimizing the keyboard had no affect, even though
my Bluetooth keyboard was linked and working.  Any other app I use automatically removes the onscreen keyboard when the Bluetooth keyboard is detected.
This does make the applications difficult and not much fun to use.
Any thoughts?  Anybody else notice the same issue?
My office has begun deploying Office 2013/365 and I know we'll have some users on iPads and other tablets, so I'm real interested in correcting this if at all possible.

  • Touchsmart 520-1047c Mouse and Keyboard will not work after sleep mode

I have an issue which I need some help with. When my computer goes to sleep the wireless mouse and keyboard will not work unless I restart, however each one will wake the system up but will not operate after that. I have tried just making the display go to sleep, both go to sleep but that makes no difference same issue occurs. The only work around I have found is going into the power settings and turning the sleep mode off for booth the computer and display. This does not solve the problem it just masks it. New batteries, unplugged and replugged the dongle, updated the bios and all drivers. Don't know what else to try. Anybody know how to fix this? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand that the mouse and keyboard on your desktop computer does not work if your computer enters sleep mode, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! To correct this issue, I recommend following the steps in this document on Troubleshooting sleep and hibernate issues (Windows 7). I also recommend connecting wired peripherals to diagnose the functionality of your keyboard and mouse. If your system is still not able to wake from sleep mode, please follow the steps below to restore the default power schemes on your computer: Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command PromptStep 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. At the command prompt, type powercfg /restoredefaultschemes and press Enter  reference: http://superuser.com/questions/669571/windows-8-1-64-bit-power-schemes-gone Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. My keyboard will not recognize certain letters when I hit the key, nor does it recognize ca@s lock.

If it does not appear after tapping in any of the required fields then try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!
