Spinning ball loading pages in Safari

Just switched to DSL. I'd say about 80% of the time, I am waiting for the spinning color ball when I try to load a page. It happens a lot when I move the navigation bar on the right to go up or down the page. The ball spins for a good 15-25 seconds. I emptied the cache in Safari already. Any suggestions?

danigrec,
Try the procedures listed in Speed up Safari, and let us know what happens.
It will also be helpful if you tell us more about the specifics of your your computer and your DSL setup.

  • Failed to load page missing Safari

Whenever i try to load a safari page blocked by government filters (china), it always shows a blank screen instead of failed to load page...
This happened when i installed AVG linkscanner and SOPHOS AV...
but after unistallation, it returns to normal. After a while when a few computer issues mounted up i installed avast! AV, the white screen issue is back!!!
Please help i like to know if my page doesnt load
Note: this can happen to google as well

That's very odd. Did you try with just Sophos installed, or only with both AVG and Sophos? The free version of Sophos does not include any kind of link scanner or other browser plug-ins that would cause such issues. It's very odd that this is happening with multiple anti-virus programs to begin with, but if it's happening with something like Sophos that shouldn't change browser behavior, there's likely to be a problem of some kind elsewhere.
Regarding the need for anti-virus software... for the most part, the average Mac user doesn't need any. Mac OS X protects against all currently-known malware. However, you're in China, and that changes things a bit. Certain groups in China have been heavily targeted by malware in the last couple years, and even if you're not part of one of those groups, you could still become "collateral damage." Because of the increased exposure you may have, it's probably a good idea to have some kind of anti-virus software installed as an additional layer of security. I'm sure some folks would disagree, saying that if some malware can slip past the built-in defenses in Mac OS X, it will slip past anti-virus software as well. That's not a universal truth, though... different detection methods can have different levels of success for specific malware. The holes in one layer of defense may (or may not) be covered by a different layer.

  • IPhone 4 randomly not registering first touch when loading page in Safari

I noticed lately that when my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.0.1) loads a new page in Safari it randomly sometimes does not register first touch if I try to scroll it. Afterwards everything is fine. Maybe page is still loading and lags somewhere in process. Anybody experiencing the same thing?

Well, it seems that there are people with the same problem. I made a topic at Macrumors as well:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=972030
However they have 3GS but phones are running iOS4 as well leading me to think it's a software issue...
    Anybody else having this problem?

  • Spinning ball on share in Safari 7.1

For the last couple of days Safari starts spinning ball and fails to respond whenever I press the share button in the menu bar or pass over the share item in the menu listing. The only way to make this stop is by force quitting. This is happening even after disabling all extensions and resetting Safari several times. I am using OS X 10.9.5 and Safari 7.1. Is anybody else seeing this or know the solution?

  • Spinning ball at Pages startup

When starting Pages, spinning ball of death keep turning and no documents show up.
I boot the iMac in Safe boot mode - Same.
    Please, anyone has a suggestion?

What have you got in the folder?
It may simply be large and numerous, with possibly graphics that need to be converted like .eps, .ai, .bmp etc and it takes time to open, particularly if you don't have enough memory on a slow machine.

  • Error when loading page in Safari

I am on WiFi via the iPhone. When I try to open a page in Safari, I get this message: "Safari can't open the page. The error was: Operation could not be completed. (POSIX error 12 - Cannot allocate memory) (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12)"
    Help!

FYI - after playing w/my phone for a while, I was able to ditch the error and surf the net fine.
What I did was go to 'settings,' 'general,' 'reset,' and then 'reset all settings.'
You won't loose data w/this reset option.
Hope this helps and I hope I can find something as to why/how this occurred.

  • Problems with facebook and loading page in Safari

When I am chatting on facebook and try to click around on the page, most specifically when I have other tabs running on Safari, facebook will not completely load and i will get the spinning cursor on the facebook tab that will not go away. It continually tries to load with no success. I have to close the window and open a new one for it to go away. It only seems to happen when I am chatting with people on facebook chat...any suggestions?

    Ok...
Time to get out your install disc, run the Disk Utility app and check the startup disk for errors.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 15% free space.*

  • Trouble loading pages in Safari 1.3.2 (maybe due to a javascript problem?)

    Hi!
I'm wondering if anyone could offer advice on how to fix a problem I'm having with my web browsers. I can't seem to load certain pages (e.g., Amazon.com). The browser loads most of the page, but then gets stuck on the last item and never finishes loading (so the whole page stays blank). I'm having the same problem in Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. I think it may be a javascript problem. When I turn the javascript option off in Safari, I have no trouble loading the pages. Also, when I look at the safari activity monitor while opening those trouble pages, the .js files are the ones that don't load.
Things I've tried include emptying the browser cache, resetting cookies, emptying my java cache in the utilities section, and making sure all of my software is up to date.
Any help or suggestions you could give me would be fantastic. Thank you so much!

    Hello there,
Do you have a style sheet [ CSS ] you are using in Safari-> Advanced Tab? if yes set it to none, and see if that helps.
Whilst in Advanced tab check your network settings & make sure you've no proxies checked on.
In " View " Check your Text encoding try using Unicode.
Have you tried a restart,if the puter that can help.
Have you run permission repair and see if DU reports any errors.
In Utilities Disk Utility, First Aid tab. do not bother with verify perm.
do run repair permissions. Stay on the left side of the Disk Utility
< [ not repair disk ] if you know already, sorry.
Good Luck, I hope something helps..

  • Can't load pages in Safari 5.1 (Windows 7)

I received an auto notice to upgrade to Safari to Version 5.1 on my Dell E1505 Laptop running Windows 7.  After upgrading with the Apple Software Update tool, Safari has quit working.  It will not load any page and just hangs.  I used the windows control panel to first "repair" Safari, no change.  I uninstalled it and downloaded a fresh version from the Apple Website, no change.  I removed version 5 and downloaded version 4.03.  It now reports that it can't load the page because the website isn't responding.  Internet Explorer works as advertised.  I've reset Safari, repaired, removed, etc.  Any ideas?  Please don't make me go back to IE......
The PC is a Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptop with 2 GB Memory running Windows 7 with SP1.

  • Some websites fail to load page on safari

Two websites, Twitter and my bank fail to load properly.  The page starts to load then hangs when the blus bar is about a quarter of the way across the address bar.  The fault is intermittant - sometimes the page loads fine - and it doesn't seem to be the site as if I use another mac the problem is not replicated on it and the page comes up.  I have cleared the cache etc and it doesn't seem to help.  Any ideas anyone?

You can try resetting Safari using the option under the Safari menu. You might not want to reset everything, so I suggest looking at the options.

  • Can't load pages on Safari.

I have this very annoying issue with my Mac. (I have OSX v.10.7.3 Safari v. 5.1.5)
Very often when I try to open a webpage it takes forever to load and eventually I either get a “Safari can’t open the page because the server where this page is located isn’t responding.” message or the page loads partially-no pictures or with a strange layout. After that when I re-lunch the page it shows up instantly. The strange thing is that when I don’t wait but instead quit and re-lunch Safari while it's loading the page, it loads straightaway. I can also turn my Internet connection on and off again and same thing happens. (WiFi or cable- it doesn’t matter) The problem is that I have to do it every time I click on a link. You can imagine what happens when I try to open more than one tab or window.
This also happens on Chrome on my Mac but my Toshiba Win XP works perfectly so I don’t think it’s the modem or wifi. I don’t have any antivirus installed, no mackeepers either.

    Hi...
Apple suggests using OpenDNS >  Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
    Very easy to setup.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, prevents browser redirects, and it's free.

  • Slow-loading pages in Safari after using Airport Express to Extend

I wanted to strengthen the signal of my wireless network, so I purchased Airport Express for the bedroom of my one-bedroom apartment. After setting it up, my Safari connection seems as slow as my former 33.6 dialup. The pages load way too slowly. I have a DSL connection with Earthlink, and after talking with their tech support, they again deferred me to you guys. This is not the first time this has happened and after fixing it the first time, it slowed again so i went back through the steps of rebooting, resetting and reinserting the plug in the Airport Extreme Base Station. I would like to know how to stabalize a wireless network, and how to understand and properly configure all the dialog boxes in the Airport Setup Assistant, Network Preferences, Intenect Connect and Safari Preferences. I am annoyed and tired of being in the dark as I have devoted a lot of time and energy to this matter. Please help.
mini mac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

The Aiport Express manual points out that using the AEX as a bridge to extend the range of an existing network reduces your 54mbps WiFi bandwidth by about 50%.
I use my AEX with this same setup configuration and it works pretty well for Web surfing, but this portion of my network is somewhat slower. The speed reduction is more noticeable with file transfers, and so I usually plug in to the Ethernet portion of my LAN to download large files or move them between computers.
Recently, my Web surfing also was getting slower and slower. Eventually I traced the problem to a combination of factors. Besides the reduced AEX bandwith, which really only affected a portion of my network, I discovered that Comcast was causing a severe slowdown. After many complaints over several months, faulty equipment at their local "head end" in my neighborhood was discovered and replaced and the slow surfing problem went away. But occasionally, it returned. Then I discovered that Safari was causing slowdown problems as well. The Safari solutions have been widely discussed at http://www.macintouch.com.

  • Unable to load page with Safari

My access to the internet with Safari has been incredibly slow recently, I think especially for sites that require a logon, secure or not, including my online banking, Wall Street Journal, Comcast Email. I get an unable to load error message after a long wait. I recieved a security update recently and I think the problem started about then. I have read this forum and tried what I could for slow Safari like resetting but without improvement. I can't access the Apple website because it takes too long to load. I can access iTunes.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Secured sites are affected by the Keychain file contents, especially the X509 Anchors. Go to your Utilities folder>Keychain Access.app - open the application. On the left you'll see your various collections. Please confirm you see x509 Anchors. While there, go to the Keychain Menu>Keychain First Aid. Select, then enter your password and select "repair". If any errors appears, rerun until you get a clean pass.
If errors were present, restart the system, and try Safari. If no errors...
Another possible avenue of resolution is to reapply the 10.4.9 combo update. After the install/restart (don't use the computer for other tasks while the installer is running) "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities menu.
