Spinning beach ball when quitting Logic and loading projects

Hello,
Whenever I load a Logic project I get the spinning beach ball. After a while, the project is loaded and it all works, but it is taken way too long to load the plugins. I'm not even talking about big projects, and I have an SSD, so it should be much faster.
The same happens when I quit Logic. Not when I close the project, but when I actually quit Logic. The "Logic Pro" menu in the top left corner of the menu bar in OS X would light up in dark blue when I press CMD + Q, and it would stay like this for 30 seconds or so. The spinning beach ball would appear again during this time. Then it would finally quit.
I have reinstalled OS X and reinstalled Logic Pro X. But the problem was still there. It sounds like a core audio problem, but the problem occurs no matter what my sound output is set to. It happened when the audio output was set to the built-in speakers of my Mac Pro (yes Mac Pro have that!), when it was set to the speakers of the Cinema Display (LED one) and when it was set to my RME Babyface.
I don't think it's a Driver problem because it happened as well when I reinstalled OS X and Logic, and when I tested it on the Macs/Cinema Displays speakers, without the RME Babyface, basically without having installed any drivers or anything yet. So everything was fresh and untouched.
This is a very weird issue. I'm wondering if someone knows what I could do next.
My specs:
Mid 2010 Mac Pro 12-core 2,92 GHz
32 GB RAM
27" LED Cinema Display
OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks
Logic Pro 10.1.1
Thanks a lot

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
Like I said, this is a complete fresh install – I installed OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 from a USB installer, and re-downloaded Logic Pro X from the App Store. That's all. That means there's no 3rd party plugins, no 3rd party drivers, nothing, just the stock OS X system.
However, I just installed the RME Babyface drivers. But this makes no difference, as the problem was present before as well. I'm just saying that, because it appears in my EtreCheck Report which I will post an the end of this message, so you may be wondering.
I tried to delete the preference files and such before – no change.
Logic started normally (= no message or appeared or anything) while holding down Shift + Control, and also while holding down the Option key. The issue is still there. What would or what should it do if I hold these keys while starting? When I hold only the Control key however, it asked me if I wanted to start Logic without the Core Audio. I clicked to start without it, and then obviously everything worked.
So here's my EtreCheck report. Everything looks normal I'd say?

EDIT:
Okay, apparently there *is* a little problem. This part here:
Problem System Launch Agents: ℹ️
    [failed]    com.apple.uhfu.ledcinemadisplayaudio.plist
I believed this was normal because my audio output was set to the external USB audio interface when I ran the test, but I ran it again with the sound output set to the Cinema Display, and this message still appeared. When I click the Information symbol, it says:
These are low-level parts of your operating system, usually provided by Apple, that run in the background while a user is logged in. Any failure that appears here may indicate a problem with your system.
I can't tell if there's a link to my Logic problem, however.
PS: I just remembered that I installed a system update for the LED Cinema Display which I downloaded from the Apple Support page. Maybe it has to do with that. It may have been an old update that was not needed.

  • Spinning beach ball when update vault and other activities

I tried to update my vault with some new pics, and it hangs in the same spot for hours.
I repaired the permissions. Same issue.
But when I go to repair the library, it spins and hangs again.
Anyone have ideas what to try next?

You have a corrupt preview or two i suspect. You can hopefully fix it my regenerating previews for your library - but depending on how many images you have it'll take a while.
If you click library, photos, select all photos.
Then in the photos menu you can select Update previews for library. And then wait a while.
Might be better to delete all previews first before you rebuild them. A quick way to do this is to, (back up first) navigate to your aperture library file, right click, show package contents and then delete the contents of the previews folder.
If you really want to go heavy duty on this you could clean out the thumbnails folder too.
Set the rebuild when you reopen aperture and if you've a lot of files go home and I'd let it work over night.
It's heavy but it should speed things up for you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Spinning Beach Ball when turning off Airport WiFi.  SL Issues, many!  Help!

I performed a clean installation of Snow Leopard on my new 13 inch late 2009 MBP on release date. All of a sudden, I am getting the infamous spinning beach ball when attempting to disable my Airport wifi. It's so bad, that I am not able to gracefully restart my system. Seriously this is getting out of hand. Snow Leopard was supposed to make Leopard even more stable.
Steps I have taken, not in any particular order.
    Verified and repaired permissions.
Ran HW test, no issues found
    Reset PRAM
    Deleted wifi related plist files from /lib/prefs/sysconfig and rebooted;
The only thing I can think of next is to perform and Archive and Install or....
...As much as I would hate to go back, Install Leopard.
I would appreciate feedback or suggestions as what to do. Looks like 10.6.1 may be worth waiting for. Oh how I miss Tiger.

    HI,
If you use an Airport Base Station or Airport Express, try resetting.
    If that doesn't help...
Boot from the 10.6 disk and verify the startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
    Check available disk space.
Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is at least 10% available disk space, 15% is better.
If necessary, do an Archive an Install. It's the only install option available for Snow Leopard.

I get the spinning beach ball when I open preview, it wont go away, can i somehow stop the process its trying to do?

You can quit Preview by selecting it in Activity Monitor and then clicking on the red octagon 'Quit Process'.  That does not solve the issue of the beach ball' as such.  Perhaps. a reinstall of the OS might sole the problem.  That is simply a guess on my part.

Why do I get the spinning beach ball when I try to change from Events to Photos.  How do I fix it?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Spinning Beach Ball when trying to access Oct. and Nov.

I can't quite figure this one out. Every time I try to access Oct. or Nov. 2010 on my ical, I get a spinning beach ball that lasts for 20 minutes. I have tried erasing my ical and replacing it with my MobileMe data, but it still doesn't work. Any thoughts?

Your profile says you are running 10.5.5. Are you up to date at 10.5.8?
Try reseting your sync history: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iSync/2.0/en/isc39.html
If the issue still persists follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
If the issue STILL persists, export out each of your calendars one at a time using File > Export.
Add 1 new calendar to your iCal.
Import each calendar back in one at a time to a new calendar testing after each import to see if the issue persists.
Once all the calendars are re-imported you can delete the extra calendar.
    Hope that helps

  • Got this Spinning Beach Ball when I swap app

this drives me nuts, and the fact that I do not understand why drives me even more nuts
when I am in FCPX everything works fine, it goes fast without lack, but if I shortly swap to another app and back, **** begins...
the Spinning Beach Ball spins like ****, and it takes about 50 seconds before it stops, and it do not matter what app it is, Preview, Safari or just the finder
I use a 8core 2,26GHz Macpro, ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU, SSD HD with OS 10.7.2 and 32GM ram, the video is on a 14TB Raid, the same machine runs like a dream with FCP (and all other apps) and did ok with FCPX until the last couple of weeks, it feels like it need to read something over the network with to small bandwidth?
    anyone?

Okay, this is a little strange.
    Try the following:
    Quit FCP X
    Unmount drives
From your user library, drag the following preference files to your desktop:
    User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.FinalCut.plist.
    User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.FinalCut.LSShardFileList.plist.
    Mount your drives
Launch FCPX. FCP X will recreate new preferences files
See how this goes. Maybe your pref files are corrupted.

Unfortunately, the fix didn't stick. When the CC app told me it needed an update last night, I downloaded the update (because it wouldn't let me run AI unless I did), opened the .dmg file. It opened the DLOG (Initiating) and then wham: spinning beach ball forever. I have already tried:
Activity Monitor & canceled the task
    Repaired permissions
    Restarted computer
    Re-downloaded the CC app
    --no good, same outcome
    so, I...
Canceled the task in the Activity Monitor
Plugged in the ethernet and turned off the WIFI (which is what fixed it, finally, the FIRST time this happened
Shut down and restarted the computer
Ran the Cleaner program [http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html] (uninstalled *every* Adobe program on my computer)
Re-downloaded the CC app and attempted install
    --no good, same outcome
Frustrated out of my mind at that point, I shut off the computer and walked away. I don't know how the hell I'm ever going to get any work done! I'm sure not convinced I should buy a subscription at this point. I think I'll have to let my trial expire and just do all my free-lance work at my daytime job! Adobe won't be making any more money from me that way.

  • Spinning beach ball when opening CS3

First I wasn't able to connect to any of my sites, now I'm
getting the "spinning beach ball of death" every time I open CS3.
It is completely unresponsive and I have to "force quit" to get out
    of the application.

I have been having similar problems on my G4 and on my Intel
Macbook since the end of last week and the only changes to both
systems has been the QuickTime 7.6 upgrade for Leopard.
I have used the sampler in Activity Monitor to see what
Contribute is doing while the Beachball is showing and it is busily
doing nothing, waiting on a variety of events, spinnig its wheels.
As far as Flash Player is concerned, the last update goes
back to October and I have been using Contribute without any
problems since then (up until last Friday).
    Any clues?

  • Really long spinning beach balls when trying a video chat

I just migrated from an older Mac to a brand new Mac Pro 2.66. I plugged in my iSight and tried to do a video conference, only to get a spinning beach ball for >1 minute before the video chat commenced.
Later I tried to access my own camera (by clicking on the camera button at the top of my buddy list) and likewise, >1 minute of spinning beach ball, THEN it worked OK.
Going to the Preferences > Video tab, likewise, spinning beach ball.
Any ideas on how to diagnose and fix this?
Already repaired permissions, and tried unplugging/replugging the iSight.

    Hi David,
In iChat > Preferences > Video section you should have a drop down to Pick the camera (either Internal or External).
    Have you done this ?
By default iChat will use the Firewire one as first choice (to the extent of changing mid chat if connected.

Wow, I'd forgotten that this thread was even open. Surprised to see responses. I forgot to subscribe to it, so I missed the recent discussions.
The link posted by dhkumd above has a post that talks about deleting some preference files via terminal. I haven't tried that yet, but it looks like I've found a similar solution (deleting a particular preference file) on my system for the time being:
I found this post on MacRumor's forums: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=541964
SOLUTION: Browse to Home>Library>Preferences and drag com.apple.systempreferences.plist to the desktop.
Caused by a corrupt user preferences file. On restart, you may find user settings have defaulted. Set up as desired.
Seems to have worked for me with short runs of screensaver enabled. I will have to see what happens overnight before I declare the problem solved. This seems a bit safer than using terminal to rm files. Dragging a copy to the desktop preserves a backup, using terminal to rm them does not.
