Spinning Objects In After Effects

Hi all, at this flash example here http://www.flashden.net/item/strongpagestrong-flip-with-motion-blur/3386, the page spins I spoke to the guy who created and he said he created the whole spinning effect in After Effects and it was really easy, I have used After Effects a bit but thought maybe there was a Filter or something which can be applied to create this effect... If anyone has any idea would be greatly appreciated!

It's just a Y-axis rotation with Motion Blur enabled. No fancy plugins required.

  • 3D objects in After effects

    Hello,
I have 3d objects in .3ds, .obj, and .blend. They are the same object. What i am trying to do is import that object into after effects using any of the 3 files. I tried putting it in Photoshop and hen going into after effects but the texture came out blank.
    Are there any solutions?
    Thanks

Have you read about Using Files From 3D Applications?
Read it carefully: Adobe tends NOT to put in its documentation admonitions like, "This section is really important!  You need to know this!"  They treat all the information with equal importance as good software engineers do.  Thus, it's a very dry read.  Drink your coffee.

  • Animateing InDesign Objects in After Effects

    Hay all,
i got an little problem. I need to animate single Objects in InDesign and need to do this in After Effects.
is there a way to import the InDesign File into After Effects so i can animate every single Object ? It is too much work to import every single Objekt out of the InDesign Project and assemble everything together.
    kind regards
    Dennis

No. Your only option would be to export a PDF from ID, but you cannot access separate objects inside the PDf, so this is more or less useless....

  • Cinema 4D lite objects in After Effects - lights and shadows

Hello, how do you get an imported Cinema 4D object to react to a AE light to cast a shadow?
    1. I apply the Track Camera Effect to my footage
    2. I select track points, right click the Red Target, and 'Create Shadow Catcher, Camera and Light'
         a. Light Options - Cast Shadows On
         b. Shadow Catcher - Accepts Lights Only
         c. Renderer - Standard(Final)
    3. I import a C4D object and set CINEWARE to 'Comp Camera'.
The C4D object tracks correctly to the camera, but the object does not accept the AE light and does not cast a shadow from this
light onto the Shadow Catcher layer. Can't seem to find the answer in any online tutorials. Thanks for you help!
    Rob C.

You need to put your lights in the scene, export your Comp to a C4D project, and then set up your shadows in C4D

    what have i done wrong?
    thanks.

    hello jesse
thanks for the reply,im going nuts about this issue, besides the masked object not animating in after fx,im having problems in after fx with audio, but anyways, since adobe has barred uploading files in the forum for a while,is there an email i can zip the file for you to see?

  • Bounding Boxes (Importing Photoshop to After Effects)

Hey, I'm sorry if this is a stupid question and it seems like (hopefully) it's a one click easy fix but here goes.
When I import Photoshop files into After Effects the bounding boxes around the orignal grouped layers are the size of the project itself. To clarify the pre-existing layer "groups" in Photoshop that were converted to "compositions" in After Effects upon importing, all have bounding boxes that extend out to the dimensions of the entire project. When I click into the composition the layers have bounding boxes that mold to the layer size. I need the group/composition bounding box to extend to only the dimensions of the subsequent layers not the entire project. When I was using After Effects CS6 it reduced the bouding box of my group/compositions to the minimalist possible extent automatically. Now that I've been forced over to After Effects CC (on account that I use creative cloud) the bounding boxes are no longer conforming to the groups in the same manner.
I of course can find away around this by merging the groups and what not but I don't want to have to do that and I'm hoping there a little freaking check box or something that I'm not aware of. I don't know if this matters but I am using Windows 7 64bit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah this problem never got officially resolved. For some reason they changed this in CC version of After Effects but as you said it was never like that in previous versions (at least it wasn't in CS6).
There are a couple of 'work-around' options for this problem but as I'm no expert I couldn't say whether these 'options' are the best way to handle this problem or not, just the best that I can come up with in my relatively limited experience and there are pros and cons to each... It also depends on what type of project you're working on. Anyway:
    1) Go into your composition/group in After Effects and use the "Crop Region of Interest" function. This will readjust the bounding box to that composition but you'll need to resituate your composition so that it's in the right place as cropping the region of interest stupidly seems to moves it.
    2) Create Null Objects and parent one of them to each moving composition. Situate all Null Object layers above your composition layers so each one is clickable
    3) Create a special "group" in the Photoshop file you're working in and -copy- all of the layers in that Photoshop file into the new group that you just created. Merge all of the layers together that are meant to be a single moving object in After Effects. This will leave your original layers intact and when you import the PSD file into After Effects you'll have the merged layers you need that will automatically have appropriate bounding boxes.

  • Problem integrating other objects with a 3D model in After Effects

    Hello there!
SO HERE'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO
For the intro to an episode of my webshow I wanted to have the camera come up from behind the couch (the current movement is a bit berserk but that's another issue) and have it come up to the television.
As it's coming to the tv, I'd like to have it show static or perhaps some bars, then change to either a series of still images or a video clip (whichever gets the job done) displaying the fake commercial to go with the narration.
Finally, after the commercial is done, the camera is to move so the tv screen fills the frame and then I'll transition to the body of the episode.
WHAT I'VE TRIED (AND SEEN FAIL)
    1) Greenscreening: This is why the tv screen is the color it currently is. This doesn't work, though, since the TV image is static while camera is not and so it's as if the TV frame is shifting wildly around the image put underneath it in another layer in Premiere.
    2) Laying the image over: I tried to brute force it with a layer above the imported Adobe After Effects Composition but even if I could get the camera to sit at a perfect angle for aligning the overlayed image, it only solves my problem for the middle stage (the commercial) - it seems to be impossible (or at least incredibly time consuming) to try and get the overlayed image to align for the first stage where the camera is coming across the room.
    3) Inserting the TV image in the After Effects Composition: Whether I do it as a 2D or 3D image, any still or clip that I want to "play" on the television is always in front of the 3D living room model - though I can move a camera inside the room, I can't move any objects it seems.
Now these are being put in as a new layer above the model and I imagine this is what's screwing things up, but I can't insert them into the model in After Effects (I don't think) and since I have more than one image or clip to display on the tv that makes altering the original .psd file a no-go.
    SOME TECHNICAL DETAILS
The original model can be found here. It started as a Google Sketchup file that was exported as a .dae into Photoshop, then saved as a .psd that could be brought into After Effects.
Software being used is Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop (all CS5) and the latest edition of Google Sketchup.
Any help beyond "BUY SOFTWARE X, YOU FOOL" would be really appreciated! I've been working very hard to up the quality of my show with this latest episode and working out the intro is all that's left to do before rendering and uploading!
    Cheers,
    Oliver

    3) Inserting the TV image in the After Effects Composition: Whether I do it as a 2D or 3D image, any still or clip that I want to "play" on the television is always in front of the 3D living room model - though I can move a camera inside the room, I can't move any objects it seems.
You are misunderstanding Photoshop Live 3D and overestimating its potential, that's why. Just like any other 3D-ish effect (Shatter, Particular, Form, Card Dance etc.) it is a peek through a window in a 3D world, but not AE's own 3D world. There is no interaction beyond the plug-ins and effects responding to the AE camera. That's all it is. The rest must come from within the effect/ plug-in itself, but in this case it doesn't, because PS 3D by itself is lamer than lame. Anyway, long-standing and well known limitations in AE's "3D". Not all is lost, though. If you can work your way around building a UV pass as explained here, you might be able to stick your content into the scene rather seamlessly, after all. And lucky for you, you can  try this for free these days using a PixelBender filter. I'd still recommend the commercial Re:Map because of the quality, though...

  • Find object's edge coordinates in After Effects

    Hello,
first of all, I'm sorry if the answer to my question is already posted somewhere … I'm a bit confused I didn't just find one somewhere in the web already—don't know if I perhaps look for the wrong terms or if it's really such a special question I have …
Anyway, my question is: how can I get the coordinates of all four edges from objects (images) in a three dimensional composing in After Effects? And also, is there a way to see the actual coordinates of the camera that I have moved by several parented objects?
In case, this might be of interest, here's a more detailed description of my situation: I have made a little three dimensional composing in After Effects with scaled and rotated images an a moving camera. I want to show the composing within a tablet app and my first plan was to render it and put the movie into the app, but now my programmer and I think it might be better to generate the composing directly within the app. So my programmer needs the said coordinates to rebuild the composing in his code (as far as I know, he uses Xcode and writes the app in Objective-C).
Hope you guys can help me …
    Cheers!
    Theo
(I use After Effects CC on Mac OS X 10.9.)

Edges/ lines are determined by the coordinates of their end points - basic planar geometry. You can get those by using the  toWorld() method and filling in the corner point coordinates relative to the layer anchor point, e.g.:
    TopRight2D=[50,-50];
    TopRight3D=thisLayer.toWorld(TopRight2D)
Easy as Pi (or pie if you prefer).

  • Imported Smart Objects from Photoshop to After Effects

When I import an Illustrator file into After Effects, I have the option to use Continous Rasterize on that layer. However, when I paste that AI file into PS, as a Smart Object, and then import that layer as footage into AE, I do not have the option to turn on Continous Rasterize in AE. It's a Smart Object that links back to the original AI file. Shouldn't I have Continous Rasterize available to me? Do I need to set my project settings differently in PS?

Shouldn't I have Continous Rasterize available to me?
No. A layer is just a layer is just a layer. That's all AE sees from the PSD file - the rasterized layer preview. It doesn't know or care where the file originated. If you must use AI content with CR, then import it natively. Whatever you do in PS with your SO wouldn't come over to AE, anyway, once you clicked the layer switch. Read up on AE's rendering order in the help.

  • After Effects CS5 Spinning Beach ball

    Hi Everyone
I'm currently working on 2 separate corporate films - Both require work done in Premiere with Dynamic Links to After Effects.
Both films have timelapse sequences shot from Canon 5Dii JPGs
1 has video footage shot from a Canon 5Dii (H.264 Mov files)
The other has footage shot from Panasonic AG-AF101 (XDCam Mov files)
However both films after several actions within the app cause After Effects to slip into a coma and display the spinning Beach ball. It's a bit hit and miss as to whether the Mac recovers - depending on the level of work I'll sometimes give it up to 5-7 mins grace to come round.
There's no rhyme or reason so as far as I can tell, as I can't determine a pattern.
I've tried Un-Checking the Render multiple frames Simulatneously as well as Un-Checking Enable OpenGL
    I'm running a 2x 2.28GHz Quad-Core Mac Pro 3,1
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    20gb RAM
300gb of available space on the App hardrive
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT
Any thoughts, solutions would be gladly welcome
    Rob

You could try this for a check...
Go to your system preferences and create a new admin account.
Then log in to that and open your project.
That will force AE, its preferences and all caches etc to be re-created.
If your problem still persists after that you might want to make sure that one of your RAMS (Memory Blocks)
    isnt damaged.
I cant remember how to test such as I believe the apple hardware tests have gone by now.
Also, when trouble shooting such - try to disconnect any peripherals from the mac, if possible...
You might also want to make sure that your media caches etc are residing on a FAST drive
instead of the default ˜/Home/Application Support/Adobe/Common
Also try the following if none above works
    1) save your project prior to rendering
    2) Choose the EDIT menu - PURGE ALL
    3) Go to preferences and look at the Media and Disk Cache section.
You WANNA put those on a FAST drive. Also you could try to delete the caches from within there and disabling the disk cache
    PRIOR to rendering...

  • After Effect camera issue Cinema 4d finding object

    Hi everyone,
    I'm using After Effects CC.
I've imported a Cinema 4d file into my AE composition, and it use by default Cinema 4d's camera.
I've also set a camera in AE parented to a null object.
When i switch from C4D's camera to AE one, my 3d object disappear, i can see the base-grid, but I can't find my object.
Is there a method, to avoid that problem?
I can't find at all my 3d object, i've searched a lot along the base-grid but nothing. Also using Anchor Point, or Position nothing...
I only need to find my 3d object using AE's camera.
    Thanks a lot
    Michele

Don't parent your AE cam. This is bound to fail. And at the risk of stating the obvious -create a proper 3D camera in the C4D file and assign it as the active view cam.

  • Spinning objects effect "Youtube look"

Hello I'm trying to create that circling objects effect look.
    See attached picture & link..
Click to watch it in motion.
See the following link to see it in motion:

I'm trying to create that look in after effects - and I would like to get some help from you guys about how to start creating it?
Also I'd appreciate a tutorial about it or a downloadable project of the same style.
It's a big project and my client needs it fast so please help! :)

    GPU: ATI x1950XT 256MB

This example isn't a cover flow simulation, it's a simple cylindrical arrangement of the layers with each layer maintaining orientation to the front (not the camera) as the cylinder rotates.
It's a simple thing to distribute a few layers around a cylinder using a null. Simply create a place holder 3D layer, a 3D null and a camera in your comp. Then set the null as the parent to the 3D layer, move it back in z space an appropriate distance and duplicate it so you have as many layers as you want. Let's say you want 10 layers.
Once you're at that point all you have to do is to remove the parenting of layer 1 and rotate the null y value 36º (360/10), then rotate the null another 36º by selecting the y value, moving the cursor to the left end and typing + 36. Release the next layer from it's null parent, and repeat for each of the layers.
Next you'd select all of the layers, reveal the rotation property and with all selected right click and reset orientation. Now all the layers will be facing the front of the comp.
Now select the Y rotation value of one of the layers and set up an expression to the null's y value. The expression looks like this:
    value - thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.yRotation
The next step is to copy the expression only, then select all of the layers and paste.
The last step is to then parent all of the layers back to the null.
To create the motion, animate the null.
It is possible to write scripts or expressions to automatically distribute layers, adjust the radius, and simplify this process. They would be very helpful if you had a lot of projects like this to do, but for one project with a limited number of layers this is probably the easiest approach.
    You'll find a
CS4 example here. This should get you started. Just animate the Y rotation value of the null and adjust the camera position to frame up the shot the way you like.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I edit out background objects in CS 4 Premiere Pro or After Effects?

Hi,  I've got the CS4 version of Premiere Pro and After Effects.  I'm editing a seminar video and there is a very ugly metal bar right behind the speaker, looking as though it is going right through his head.  Is there a way to edit this out?  I do not have similar footage without the metal bar.  Can I cover it up and, if I do, do I have to do it almost frame by frame?  The speaker does shift around in his chair, covering different parts of the bar with his body at different times, and, on a few occasions, the camera zooms out.  Is there any way to somehow cover this up for the whole video?  Or at least for some of the close-ups?
    Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks!

Thank you so much.  I read through the entire article as well as some of its adjuncts; it was very helpful.  I believe I didn't know that was what I was looking for before you answered me.
However, when I FIRST set up this computer (while still at the Apple store, with their guidance) they had me set up what I now believe was the administrator account.  I wish I knew for sure!
They told me that (whatever it was) was unchangeable, and that if I forgot the password, I was doomed.
Is there something at a yet-more-basic (underlying) level than the administrator account?
This "memory" is what haunts me and makes me fearful of logging clear out; I never have done so.  No one else uses this computer.  But I have to log out to use the Test account (that I just created).  I DO know the password for the administrator account and the test account, as I changed them and tested them by unclicking the lock (and then reclosing it when I was.
If I still sound confused, I am  ~  woefully.  Such a basic should not be unknown to me......
Thank you so much for replying.  I hope you see this, and will do so one more time.
    Respectfully,

No matter what format or what program I use to create elements for my After Effects project they import in with a frustrating white border around it.  I don't remember this happening in earlier version on AE, right now I'm working on AE cs5.5.  Anybody have any clue what's going on?  Thank you very much for your time!

  • Exporting a cinema 4d animation in after effects

    Hi ,
I just want to find out if the following method to export a video animation in after effects that also includes a cinema 4d animation is correct because it doesn't seem to be working.
I basically hit export in after effects >> add to adobe media encoder >> it opens i then select my format and it doesn't seem to work no errors just stops.
Am i going about this incorrectly?
The animation is a basic spin of a character.. Nothing hectic
    Thanks

There is a bug that causes a problem with exporting a composition that uses a .c4d scene object through Adobe Media Encoder. We intend to release a fix for this bug very soon (probably next week). In the meantime, you should export a losslessly encoded master movie file from After Effects and use Adobe Media Encoder to transcode that file to your final delivery format.
