Spinning rainbow wheel every time I connect phone to itunes....

I have an iphone (I'm not sure the model but I bought it in January). Did the recent software update and now every time I connect my phone it recognizes it in itunes and immediately starts with "verifying iphone" but in less than a minute if I click on anything in itunes or not it starts with a spinning rainbow wheel and the only way it stops is if I force quit itunes.
I can't update, change, add, delete anythig on my phone and also as a result the itunes/ipod function on the phone doesn't work and also freezes up.
Someone suggested I might have a bad file on there somewhere, like an mp3 or what have you, but how would I even go about deleting the music or the files if I can't even connect to itunes?
Can I do a factory restore without connecting as well?

I would try a normal restart first and if that doesn't help, try a reset.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If they don't work you can do the factory reset (without connecting) and when it's complete you'll have to register the phone again with iTunes.

I just bought a new Iphone and when I connected it to itunes and I downloaded the backup from my last device, now I can't pass this step and every time I connect it to itunes is the same thing. And I can't download any app because problems with my account regarding the credit card but the information is correct and it says it is not!!!

You'll have to contact iTunes store support regarding your credit card information problem: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.  I'm not clear on what you're saying about your backup.  Are you saying that when you connect to iTunes it's asking you to restore from backup even though you already have?

My computer recognizes that the iPod is plugged in, (it's accesible under "My Computer") but iTunes doesn't acknowledge it, at all. I've tried every single solution I've seen, and none of them work. I know the Classic is outdated, but my other iPod doesn't have nearly as much room. Can anyone help with this?

  • HT1222 I have a Ipod touch 5th generation and for got my passcode and need to  change it but every time I connect it to itune I get a error message say it has tobe unlock before it can be restored

My wife and I brought a Ipod touch 5th generation for our grandson after which he let a bully at school take it from him and change the passcode. We retrieved the ipod from the young man with a fare amount of run around.  But now we are lockout. of it and when we look up how to reset it we where told to connect to itune, but when doing so I got a error message stating that the device had to be unlock before it could be restored. Is there another way that I may restore the Ipod?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Every time I try and use iTunes or the App Store on my iPad Mini, I keep getting the message "Cannot connect to iTunes Store". However, on my iPod Touch 4th Generation - signed into the same account - it works with no problems. Can anyone help? Thanks!

As I've already mentioned, I can't connect to iTunes or the App Store, the same message appears every time: "Cannot connect to the iTunes Store". I downloaded a few apps before I connected my iPad Mini to my Computer. I started doing an update that was about 9 or 10 hours long, somewhere around that time, and I unplugged it about halfway through the update and since then I've not been able to get onto iTunes or the App Store. I checked to see if I could continue the update but when I looked on iTunes again, no updates appeared. On my iPod Touch 4th Generation, everything works absolutely fine and it is logged into the same Apple ID. I've tried resetting my Network Settings, logging into someone else's Apple ID, connecting to a different Wifi, changing the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8, rebooting my Computer and iPad and changing the HTTP Proxy to Auto. Is there anything else I could try or am I just overlooking something? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here, thanks!

Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.

  • Need to restore every time I connect iPod?

My iPod (new nano, v1.0.1 software) works just fine. Plays music like a champ. iTunes (7.4.3.1, WinXP) works as expected, too. However, every time I connect the iPod, iTunes declares that it is in recovery mode and needs to be restored before it can be used w/ iTunes. It restores just fine, but I'd like to be able to bypass this step.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

  • Every time I connect my iphone 4 to itunes it wants to either restore from backup or set up as a new phone.

every time I connect my iphone 4 to itunes it wants to either restore from backup or set up as a new phone. I've restored it 5 times already, i don't want to lose any of my data. Any ideas?

I had the same issue. Tried unplugging whilst it was restoring about 5 times - didnt work. I ended up clicking "set up as new iphone" and TADA it worked. I can now edit on itunes. I do however have every single app I've EVER downloaded on my phone. Apple should really make it so they go back on exactly how they were before!

    Hello there, deelish.
A great Knowledge Base article that has some valid information is:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
The pertinent section for you would be:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues.

  • Every time I connect my IPhone 5s to the computer it comes up as a new phone, even know I have synced it to the computer before

Every time I connect my IPhone 5s to the computer it comes up as a new phone ,even know I have synced it to the computer before and it worked fine

I would try 2 things. First, I would de-authorise the computer, then authorise it again.  If that doesn't work, then  second, you could try uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling.

  • Why does my iphone sync all 5000 songs on my phone every time I connect it?

Every time I try to add songs to my iphone 4s, it has to resync all 5000 songs that are currently stored on the phone, rather than just the one or two new additions. If I disconnect the phone before it is done all the music it hasn't gotten to will not play. I am running ios7 and the current version of itunes 11. Thanks!

    Hi louiepatterson,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your entire iTunes library is syncing every time you connect your iPhone, you may want to try setting up syncing in iTunes again by following the steps in the appropriate article below. If you're syncing music, try un-checking and then re-checking the "Sync music" checkbox in iTunes.
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12113
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12313
Your entire library will sync again once more after this, but then only new songs should sync thereafter. If the issue persists, I'd try the troubleshooting steps in our iPhone assistant next:

  • Spinning rainbow wheel of death multiple times a day

Hi, I'm on a 2-yr-old MacBook Pro, and for the last few months I am getting the rainbow wheel many times a day. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. I'm fairly new to Mac, and so don't know the best maintenance routine.
I discovered something called EtreCheck, and ran that. I'm including it below in case anyone knows what any of it means.

  • Spinning rainbow wheel for long periods on File Open commands in Acrobat and Office 365 programs

    Hardware & Software:
    MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2009)
77GB of free hard disk space
    8GB RAM
Running OS X Yosemite (Version 10.10.2)
Over the last few days, when I try to execute a File Open command from Adobe Acrobat or Office 365 programs (even from an innocuous location such as Documents), I get the spinning rainbow wheel for long periods of time (10 seconds to minutes) before I am able to select a file to open. I copied messages from Console after a File Open command for each of Adobe Acrobat and Excel (the selected location was Documents), given below:

Can anyone give me an idea of what these messages mean and how I can solve this problem?
If I'm not in the correct Community for this question, could someone kindly tell me where I should re-post?
    Thanks.
    David Walker

Yes; I have previously connected to an iMac at this location using File Sharing.  However, in my attempts to solve this problem last week, I had already unchecked File Sharing in System Preferences.  Tonight, I also deleted the folder from the window in the File Sharing System Preferences page, then rebooted.  The problem still persists.
I try not open files across a server line, i.e., I try always to copy a file to the local computer and open it there.  I may have gotten careless and tried to open a file from the Windows server with either or both Acrobat and Office 365.  Although this was an SMB share, is it possible that these programs are now trying to connect to the Windows server on a File Open?
I had about decided to quit chasing this problem; we spend about two weeks every two months at this Boston location, and I'll be returning to my Florida home this weekend.  So I decided I would see what the situation was when I returned to my native habitat, although I may be chasing this problem again in our trip to the Boston area in April.
The other thing I wondered (I guess I can't quite let it go), is whether there is a command line in Terminal that would kill all AFP shares.
In any case, thanks for your help; you're very knowledgeable.
