Spinning wheel in App Store & Randomly dropping WiFi
Hi there,
I'm having various problems with my iPad 2 16gb WiFi and searching various forums hasn't helped me find a resolution, so I'm hoping that someone here may have experienced the problem or maybe able to offer a solution.
I'm pretty new to Apple products, having recently moved to an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 from similar devices with another well known brand of OS, so I'm not sure if something is wrong or if this is normal behaviour.
Symptoms
When connected to WiFi and trying to browse the app store, I often get a 'spinning wheel' and nothing seems to load, I've even left the iPad for over 10 minutes and still nothing happens. I can try and search, look at featured apps, but I don't get a connection. The iPad is definitely connected to WiFi as I can browse in Safari without any issues. The only way I can get around this problem is to hold the power and home button down to reset the device, sometimes this takes 2 or 3 attempts. My iPhone4 doesn't have this problem and it's sat on the same wireless LAN as the iPAD. I've tried turning off WiFI and turning it back on, but that doesn't resolve the issue, a reset is the only way to gain access to the App store again.
Another strange problem I get is that the WiFi connection on the iPad will just randomly drop out, I'll happily be browsing away and it will just disconnect leaving me with no internet connection. It reconnects after a few minutes, but occasionally I have to reboot the device to get it to connect again. My iPhone4 and other devices don't suffer this problem.
I thought this might be an issue with my router, but I've reproduced this problem on 3 different wireless networks now all with different brands of routers.
I've tried restoring the device to factory settings, upgrading the firmware on my router, rebooting the router, tested on multiple wireless LANs and the problem just won't go away, it's getting quite frustrating really. It can happen after 5 minutes, or 5 hours, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.
Sorry for the long post, but if anyone has any suggestions or can offer any explanation as to why this is happening I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
James
OK well I tried your suggestion in various ways...
I tried downgrading to WEP from WPA...
End result was the same problem.
I turned off security altogether and still got the same results, so it doesn't appear that the method of encryption has any effect on the behaviour.
Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help by the way

Randomly dropping wifi connection
My iMac is randomly dropping wifi connection. I constantly have to turn on/off AirPort to get it to work. Any ideas?
Hi there allylance,

I cant access app store with my wifi though i can access from any other network
i cant access app store with my wifi though i can access from any other network
What happens when you try? Error message?
Have you synced apps from that computer/iTunes library? You can only sync apps from your one syncing computer. -
I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac . My wife has a MacBook and an iMac. How many computers are you allowed to install from one download. We both use Apple products and have our own Apple ID. Can I download Lion on her computers after I have both of mine installed? Or does she have to buy LION again using her Apple ID# ?
A single purchase of Lion will allow you to download it multiple times as long as you use your Apple ID.
If your wife wishes to install Lion, she must sign into the App Store with your Apple ID.

I have a new iPad wifi / cellular that is randomly dropping the wifi connection. I'm lucky to stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. After dropping it will not automatically reconnect, I need to go to settings and manually reconnect to wifi. My older iPad runs fine on same network. Heat do I need to do to correct problem and stay connected? Same problem on multiple networks.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password.
If that doesn't help, try here > iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections -
Since iOS8.2, connecting to App Store crashes my wifi
Anybody else have this problem (or any idea what may be causing it)? Since I updated to iOS 8.2 my iPad 2 crashes my iPad's wifi connection. I have full bars, the settings indicate that I'm connected, but clearly the connection is gone. No email, no browser, no app store, nothing. For example, when I update apps, the updates start, then stop abruptly, with the circle icon frozen for each app that is being updated. And from that point on, no internet access on the iPad (all other devices/laptops continue working just fine). And the ONLY action that corrects this situation is if I go back to the app store and stop the attempted download.
Resetting the iPad doesn't help. Resetting the Network Settings doesn't help. Nothing else I've tried (except the above action) returns wifi connectivity. In effect, I can continue to have wifi connectivity if I stop updating my apps from the App Store via wifi.
Any ideas? The second sentence above should read: "Since I updated to iOS 8.2 my iPad 2 crashes my iPad's wifi connection every time I try downloading app updates from the App Store."

IPad randomly dropping wifi connection
I have seen quite a few posts regarding iPad dropping wifi connection. I have tried all the usual reboot router, updates, etc but the issue remains.
I need to keep switching wifi off then on again to re connect?
Does anyone have any better ideas than waiting for a bug fix?
ThanksThanks for the quick reply.
I have not had this issue outside of my home wifi so I suppose this points to a router issue.
When I read that others have had the same issue I presumed it was a bug.
"Updates" does mean router firmware updates.
I am using WPA2-PSK security but have tried WEP and WPA-PSK setting with the same result.
The router is a Netgear RangeMax model DG834PN
It is in g&b mode( whatever that means)
I appreciate your comments. -
App Store randomly can't connect.
Sometimes when I check the App Store, it takes long to load and sometimes can't even connect. Should I restart the internet?
Hello Cool5467,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with connecting to the App Store. I found a couple of articles I recommend for this issue.
First, I recommend using the steps in the section titled “Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch” in the following article (the article title refers to the iTunes Store, but the steps are relevant for the App Store as well):
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
If the issue persists after following the steps in that section, I recommend continuing with the steps in the section titled “Isolate the issue: (Mac OS X, Windows, iOS)” in the article below. This section will help you isolate the issue:
iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Is there a file size limit for App Store downloads over wifi?
I just gifted my friend a navigation app that is 1.4 Gb in size. Unbeknown to me, her iPhone is not tethered to a computer and therefore she only downloads apps directly to the phone via wifi. Is it possible to download a file of this size directly to the phone? So far the app has said "Loading..." for 3 hrs with no movement in the status bar. If there is a limit I would have expected the phone to disallow the process from even beginning.
Any thoughts on how to get this app downloaded would be greatly appreciated. If you right click on the file (navigate to it using finder, or if it is in iCloud you should open keynote, File -> Open and you should see a list of your iCloud keynotes) then press command+i, you'll pull up the info tag which will tell you the file size.
Keynote also has an option to Reduce File Size (File -> Reduce Files Size) but I do not recommend it at all because it will severely degrade the quality of your pictures.
It's also possible to reduce an individual image's memory size in your keynote by right clicking it and selecting Reduce Image File Size). This is more time-consuming but allows you to see if the degraded photo quality is still good enough, and you can always undo it. -
If i use 3g internet can i download app from app store with out wifi Internet ?
-
If the app is less than 20 meg then yes you should be able to - there is a 20 meg download limit per file of 3G which can't be changed/overridden. For any content (apps, films, tv shows, podcasts etc) over 20 meg you will need to find a wifi network for your iPad in order to download them directly on the iPad, or download them on your computer and then sync them across to the iPad

AppleScript - Open store link within App Store.app
I want to open a link to the US Mac App Store within App Store.app
https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/switchToStoreFront?storeFront Id=143441
I tried a tell block with App Store.app to open location, to open URL, with https and itms schemes and all these also from within a tell block with System Events, to no avail.
Any ideas?I checked the JavaScript as you suggested and noticed the url scheme in use — actually, I forgot that
Just change http/https with macappstore/macappstores, respectively.
The following script opens the Xcode app page in the US Store.
tell application "System Events" to open location
"macappstores://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?mt=12"
macappstore://showUpdatesPage checks for updates.
However,
macappstores://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/switchToStoreFront?sto reFrontId=143441
doesn't switch to the US Store. I only see the spinning wheel in App Store app.
I'll appreciate any hints to make it work. -
While in Safari, my phone randomly opens the App Store. I thought I was touching a link, but that isn't the case. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
This is caused by advertising networks issuing a redirect which tells iOS to open the App Store. Clearing cookies and history is likely only to provide temporary respite.
I did a bit of analysis on what's actually going on here: http://rainbow.chard.org/2014/01/05/app-store-randomly-opening/ -
The Apple ID that is coming up on my App Store is my wife's but I am logged in under my own, I have logged out and back in but it is still logging in on hers can anyone help???
I am afraid all apps are tied to the Apple ID they are purchased with and are not transferable.
Your son have to buy those apps with his own Apple ID and start from scratch. -
Iphone 4 wont connect to home wifi but connects to neighbors open wifi. Family members with iphones can connect to the wifi automatically and Mac compiuter in home connects to this wifi and this iphone did connect automaticcally until a few weeks ago. Does not request password when try to connect to own wifi..just says "cant access.". Also cant access the Apple apps store to purchase apps but all other function operate normally. Apple store tech says nothing wrong with phone. It connected to their wifi and coud access apps store from their wifi. This iphone belongs to son who is autistic. I am mother trying to resolve this issue and very frustrated. Have reset router but no change.
Based on the symptoms, your phone is fine, and the Router is the problem. Try http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398. Specifically the "forget this network" step. I would also consider resetting the wifi network password. Sometimes that will allow a connection.
