Spinning wheel when audio recording
when i attempt to audio record onLogic 9 i get the spinning wheel and have to wait about ten seconds before record engages, regardless of buffer size; No other programs (digital performer or ableton live) have this problem on my computer (imac 2.6 dual; new;) other people making same complaint but update dosen'taddress this; messing up my business; what to do
Having the same problem too. It seems to take even longer when the singer or guitarist is in the room.
Very embarrassing. I have been going back to 7.2 for overdubbing until I sort it out.
I'm thinking that because I'm on a new terra drive it's paving the way for a millennium of space each time I hit record. It says there are 536 minutes recording time remaining. This is a great feature to be able to turn off.
I'm still trying things. I've noticed it the worst (i.e. longest waiting time) when the song had a lot of instrument plug-ins. It's not so bad at the moment on the current song with no one in the room. Only 2 secs when doing a test record. The same song took up to 10 secs to start recording when the guitarist was here yesterday!
More importantly, does anyone know how to set the record time to i.e.5 minutes like we can do in 7.2?
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Spinning Wheel when I click the add user permission
When I open the "Info" editor and unlock the padlock, I get the spinning wheel when I click the "+" to pull up the Users list.
The only solution is to restart force quit Finder because it becomes unresponsive.
This happens on any file and folder and as soon as I clikc the plus icon, even if the padlock is still locked.
I runned Disk Utility to fix permissions and also restarted the OS but nothing has improved.
The hardware is a MacMini with Maverick 10.9.2 and Server.app installed.Linc,
there is no crash report until I force the fined to restart.
So.. as soon I press the plus sign to add a user I get nothing in the console log.
When I forcefully quit the finder I get:

Why do I get a spinning wheel when using Mail
Recently I have noticed that I get the rainbow spinning wheel when using Mail.
I have upgraded to Mavricks
This seems to happen when looking for an address
Also when I attempt to move emails from inbox to another mailbox this does not happen.A general cure for Mail problems is Mailbox > Rebuild. Don't know if it applies to your problem but it shoud not hurt.
P.S. Have a current Time Machine or other backup before attempting any major software updates or rebuilds. -
The time is wrong and spinning wheel when hovering over time
Since upgrading Macbook Air to Mountain Lion, the time is often incorrect and I get the spinning wheel when I hover over the top right of the screen (battery, date, time).
There may be an menu item installed from the previous OS X that is not compatible with 10.8. Open System Preferences and select Users & Groups. Select your account and then select Login Items. There may be items listed here with a yellow alert icon. If so, hightlight the item and press the Delete key on your keyboard.
If that does not help, or there is no item with the warning symbol, then try removing all items from the Login Items list and see if that helps. -
Spinning wheel when I hit the Phone Icon
So today I had to get my iPhone 3G replaced, and now I notice something I never did before, and it's kind of annoying me. Anytime I hit the phone icon, I notice a spinning wheel right next to the wifi symbol. It doesn't do this if I hit the contacts icon, only anything I do in the Phone icon. Anyone know what that's about? Thanks!
I don't think it's checking for visual voicemail. In my country no carrier supports this function and I still get the spinning wheel when looking at contacts in the Phone app, or when starting Safari. BTW I'm syncing with MobileMe.

Getting the spinning wheel when switching between accounts
Hi all,
I am getting the spinning wheel when switching between accounts on a mac mini. There are two accounts and quite often when we go from one to the other we get the spinning beachball after putting in the password to log in. I am finding the only real solution to be is to put the machine to sleep (button at the back for a sec or two) wait for it to go to sleep and then wake it up and it mostly will then log in and keep working.
It's an older intel dual core mac mini with an upgraded HDD. I previously had an iMac running snow leopard where the same problem occured and recently migrated over the account to the mini running Lion. It seems to be happening more often.
I also seem to remember that occasionally when using say Pages you would get the spinning beachball and then you would have to hit the desktop or go to another program and then back to pages to get it working again.Does it occur no matter which way you're going say? i.e, both from
User 1 -> User 2
User 2 -> User 1
If its only one way, have a look at the 3rd party loginitems for the account your going to. If its both ways, see what 3rd party loginitems both accounts have in common. The best (though time consuming) way to eliminate the culprit is to remove all 3rd party apps from loginitems and add them in one at a time, testing for the problem each time.
If you get the BSOD while actually logged in (say, while using Pages), try running activity monitor (or use terminal.app with the command 'top -u' (without the quotation marks)), and see if you can notice any process running at more than 30%CPU. -
Hey all,
Tried searching the net but cannot find a suitable solution to my problem
This problem occurs every now and then, but this time I can't fix it.
When I connect my ipad to my Macbook (2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 2009 running OS 10.5.8) and I try to click any tab (Music/Book/Apps etc) when I have the ipad selected in iTunes - iTunes freezes and I get the spinning wheel of death!
I really need to sync up some documents into ibooks and am getting really frustrated.
I plan to buy a Macbook Pro in the coming months so upgrading iTunes or OS is not something I want to be doing, I just want to be able to sync books without iTunes crashing on me.
Have tried restarting computer and iTunes, checking active and inactive ram in the Activity Monitor but nothing works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! What version of iTunes do you have on your computer?

Spinning wheel when setting up new time machine
Hi,
Am sure there is something obvious i'm missing, but having set up a new time capsule (my first) I am having problems getting it to work with time machine. I have it working fine over airport and so I think it is working fine- I am getting a much better internet response than with my old base station. However when I try and set it up with time machine I get spinning wheel of death when I select it as a back up drive in the TM system preference pannel and it crashes system preferences completely.
Any ideas?
Keithkeithmottram wrote:
thanks, but my name was already one (short word). tried a TC restore but no avail. still find it really weird that it crashes my System Prefferences. shall try sticking a pin into it now!
It could be a corrupted preferences file. Try deleting:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
(in your top-level Library folder, not your home folder)
and Restarting. You'll have to re-enter any exclusions, etc. -
Spinning wheel when trying to log into Macbook Pro 17" connected to 27" thunderbolt display
I've got a 17" Macbook Pro connected to a brand new 27" Thunderbolt display. When I attempt to log in from user screen I consistently get the spinning wheel of death and have to power down on frequent basis. More a nuisance than anything but with the amount of money invested on the components in front of me this seems slightly silly. I can use this work around pretty easily, but my wife isn't real swift when it comes to these things so I'm looking for a long term fix.
lRlevolution,
if your hard drive has failed, then no amount of resetting the SMC will fix your hard drive — you’ll need to purchase a new hard drive (or SSD), format it in Disk Utility, install it in place of the old one, and install OS X on it. (If you plan on installing it yourself, you’ll need a T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws from your current hard drive and put them in your new drive.) Is there a reason to believe that there might be a motherboard issue involved? -
Spinning wheel when trying to play a rented movie
So I have been renting movies on my MacBook from the iTunes store since I bought my first apple TV years ago. I then play them from my Apple TV and never had an issue.
Since the last updates of iTunes and Apple TV OS I can no longer do this. All I get when I select a movie on my iTunes is a spinning wheel! It just sticks there.
What the heck Apple - get a grip - where is your testing !
The only way round it is if I play the movie on my macbook and stream it to my apple tv!If you are reading this message either in the online community or in an email notification you have received, please be aware it is a temporary post.
The support community is currently undergoing some minor problems which can occasionally result in newer posts being rendered invisible. One method of working around this issue and revealing the hidden posts is to add a further post of one’s own.
However because it’s not possible to see what one is replying to, it’s not possible to make a valid post in terms of the question(s) being asked, but once it has been posted and the invisible posts become visible again, one can then edit the post accordingly.
If you are seeing this in an email notification, unfortunately you won’t be notified of any subsequent edit and as such should return to the message in the online community to see any changes made to it.
On the other hand, if I have nothing worthwhile to say, it might remain as it is. -
Spinning wheel when starting iPhoto
Hi,
My 27 inch Mac is from late 2010. Almost every time when I start up iPhoto the only thing I see is the colourful spinning wheel but no possibility to see or edit pictures from my library. I tried all suggested ideas but it seems nothing really helps me out. Strange: from my wife's account on the same Mac there's no problem to get in. Changed from windows last year for Apples problemless OS-reputation I'm a little disappointed being unable to solve this problem. I'm having this problem since a couple of weeks. Can anybody help me out?See if you can boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode. If that's successful reboot normally. If the Safe Mode fails boot into the Recovery HD by holding down the Command+R keys. When in the recovery partiton run Disk Utility to repair permissions and the disk. If you still can't boot and log in you may have to go back to the Recovery HD and reinstall the system as described here:
Apple - OS X Recovery restores your Mac with a few clicks.

Imac hangs with apple logo and spinning wheel when warm
My imac seems to run just fine while it's up. However, after it's been on for a while and I reboot it (like when installing an update) it will get to a gray screen with the apple logo and a spinning wheel. After it has had time to sit awhile ( about 1/2 hour) it will start up just fine and run great until I have to do another reboot.
It will not even boot into safe mode until it cools down. I have reset the NVRAM, run the diagnostics on the hard drive (which showed no errors), swapped out the keyboard, disconnected evrything ( even tried without the keyboard), swapped memory and as a last resort wiped the disk and reinstalled the OS. None of this has helped.
At this point I am thinking that it is either a bad power supply or logic board. Is there a way to fully test each of these to determine which one is causing the problem. I do not have an extra of either that I can swap in temporarly to try and I do not want to spend the money buying something that I may not need. Neither one of those items are cheap.
Can anyone tell me how I can isolate which one it is? Is there a good program I can use to tell me this?
Any help and information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Ray CApple is pretty specific about trouble shooting this, please carefully read and then methodically follow all the steps in the following article:

Good luck, however I think you have a hardware issue that will require your taking it into an Apple Store or AASP to be professionaly diagnosed. -
Help! App Store spinning wheel when trying to download OS X Lion
I've spent several hours today trying to download OS X Lion from the App Store. Everytime I click on the 29.99 button, and then the Buy App button the spinning wheel starts at the top of the App Store Window. If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it!
My specifics: iMac, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Available space 162.7 GB, Max OS X Version 10.6.8 (Snow Lepoard)
I called Apple Support, and they told me to order the USB drive, but I'd like to just download this ASAP.
Thanks a million!"The solution is not to have to spend more then twice as much to be able to access the same thing you can through the app store." (Opps, don't know how to credit the prior commenter, but thank you!)
They didn't even mention the $69 price! As it is I already had to order the 2012 Quickbooks (over $150!), because Lion didn't support my 2010 Quickbooks - wow, this upgrade is getting more and more expensive! Even though I LOVE my Apple products, I tell people that they don't "nickle and dime you, they 100 dollar bill you to death!" -
Spinning wheel when placing web content.
Whenever I place HTML files or .oam files into DPS folios I get the spinning wheel briefly on the page before the HTML content loads, only for maybe half a second (longer on my old iPad 1!!) but it's very annoying as the animation is only very simple. The oam file especially is only 78k!! Can someone explain why the action isn't instant as with the internal functionality of DPS such as auto play MSOs and such. And if there is a way to avoid it.
Thanks in advance,
JonHi,
It is something I have tried to look into before with no answer as of yet.
It is annoying, really this should be something that we should be able to turn off in the web overlay because a lot of the interactive features we build are through HTML or edge files it always seems like you are loading an add on rather than the content being integrated into the app. Maybe there should be a feature to preload the HTML5 content and only play on page load which would stop the content delay issues.
Cheers
Rob
