Spinning wheel when trying to play a rented movie

So I have been renting movies on my MacBook from the iTunes store since I bought my first apple TV years ago. I then play them from my Apple TV and never had an issue.
Since the last updates of iTunes and Apple TV OS I can no longer do this. All I get when I select a movie on my iTunes is a spinning wheel! It just sticks there.
What the heck Apple - get a grip - where is your testing !
The only way round it is if I play the movie on my macbook and stream it to my apple tv!

  • Itunes keeps freezing up when trying to play a rented movie.

I recently rented a movie from itunes using the $2.99 SD copy. I downloaded it and then prepared to watch but instead of playing the movie freaked out and froze my itunes. The only way it would do anything was when I exitted out. I've tried restarting my computer twice, have opened and closed itunes mutliple times. I believe I have the most recent version of itunes (11.02). I have 24 hours to watch my movie and it is not working! Help please! Is there any way to fix this. I've tried making sure itunes is the only thing open, but even then it doesn't work.

    Hello authorsgirl27,
The article linked below can help you troubleshoot some of the settings on your computer that may be preventing you from viewing your rental.

Are you doing it thru the Settings panel or are you downloading independently thru the App Store?

  • I get the following error when trying to watch a rented movie, "Anerror occurred loading this content".

    Hi,
I get the following error message when trying to watch a rented movie, "An error occurred loading this content". Is this common?
    Thanks,

It's common in the sense that you'll see this issue arise in the community from time to time, but in the context that the community is the place that users bring their problems it's probably similar to a broken shoulder which may be common at the hospital but not so common amongst the population that the hospital serves.
In many cases the problem can be solved by restarting the Apple TV (pull the power for best results) and/or restarting your router. Persistent problems may indicate a network issue such as interference locally or a slow download speed from your service provider. Try the restarts and see if that helps.

  • Error 3001 when trying to watch a rented movie

I've rented my first movie off iTunes Movie Rentals (Fantastic 4 - Silver Surfer). The file downloaded fine, but at the end of the download it shows error 3001 (There was a problem, etc.) but gives no specifics.
I tried it on my MacBook Pro and my girlfriend's Dell, both running the latest version of iTunes, but I get the same error when trying to play the movie, or when I click "Resume Download" (although it looks like the movie had downloaded already).
Any tips on how to fix this? I was looking forward to watching this with her tonight.
Not a good first-time experience with this rental thing I must say

I am getting the same error ("3001") when downloading - not watching. At first I was getting err = 8008. 8008 would happen about 1/3 through the download process. Download would freeze, and issue iTunes would alert an err = 8008. After contacting Apple, they claim to have reloaded the movie and instructed me to try again by:
    1. Delete my /User/iTunes/Music/Download folder
    2. Check for Downloads
After several attempts, the download process finally proceeded past the original freeze point. Download is now 99.9% complete, but now crashes and issues a pop-up alert "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (3001). There was an unknown error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."
1.6G of 1.7G has downloaded. When I try to "play" the existing file, I am presented with another 3001 error pop-up.
    Grrr....

  • Help!  App Store spinning wheel when trying to download OS X Lion

I've spent several hours today trying to download OS X Lion from the App Store.  Everytime I click on the 29.99 button, and then the Buy App button the spinning wheel starts at the top of the App Store Window.  If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it!
My specifics:  iMac, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Available space 162.7 GB, Max OS X Version 10.6.8 (Snow Lepoard)
I called Apple Support, and they told me to order the USB drive, but I'd like to just download this ASAP.
    Thanks a million!

"The solution is not to have to spend more then twice as much to be able to access the same thing you can through the app store."  (Opps, don't know how to credit the prior commenter, but thank you!)
They didn't even mention the $69 price!  As it is I already had to order the 2012 Quickbooks (over $150!), because Lion didn't support my 2010 Quickbooks - wow, this upgrade is getting more and more expensive!  Even though I LOVE my Apple products, I tell people that they don't "nickle and dime you, they 100 dollar bill you to death!"

  • Spinning wheel when trying to log into Macbook Pro 17" connected to 27" thunderbolt display

I've got a 17" Macbook Pro connected to a brand new 27" Thunderbolt display.  When I attempt to log in from user screen I consistently get the spinning wheel of death and have to power down on  frequent basis.  More a nuisance than anything but with the amount of money invested on the components in front of me this seems slightly silly.  I can use this work around pretty easily, but my wife isn't real swift when it comes to these things so I'm looking for a long term fix.

    lRlevolution,
if your hard drive has failed, then no amount of resetting the SMC will fix your hard drive — you’ll need to purchase a new hard drive (or SSD), format it in Disk Utility, install it in place of the old one, and install OS X on it. (If you plan on installing it yourself, you’ll need a T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws from your current hard drive and put them in your new drive.) Is there a reason to believe that there might be a motherboard issue involved?

  • Spinning wheel when trying to save

whenever I try to save a certain document (ms word) i get the spinning color wheel.

Does it go away after a while or stay on that and you have to Force Quit ?
Some Office Applications can have problems with corrupt or missing Fonts that can cause a few issues it might be worth running FontDoctor or some other freeware Font checker to see if all the source files are correct and in the right place, possibly remove duplicates as well.
Does the document have clip art files in it or other images or is it just plain text ?

  • Weird Problem just started happening, spinning ball when trying to play

I'm having a problem that just started happening, I've been using Final Cut Pro 5.04 in 10.4.8 on a G4 dual 800 for a long time now, no problems.
Today, I'm doing some Voiceovers, using the V.O. window, not even playing video, and it's doing this thing where I try to play a segment of recorded audio, and the beachball starts spinning for 15-20 seconds, and finally it plays the little snippet. I play it a couple times, it's working normally, then again I try to play it and it waits 20 seconds before kicking in.
I have no idea what to look at to fix this. I didn't change any of my settings, I'm recording onto a drive with about 5 GB of space...
I'm using a MOTU 896 firewire interface for audio.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

I believe there is an issue with updates and firewire from the posts I have read over the last few months. Not sure what to tell you but did you update the OSX resently? Or Quicktime? If I were you I wouldn't update anything just yet. And perhaps you call roll back the OSX to a time and version that worked for you.
    Good Luck

  • Error (-12894) when trying to watch a rented movie

Rented catching fire on ipad to stream to Apple TV, since appletv was being stupid asking me to keep verifying my payment info. Downloaded and processed, and when I click watch the iTunes Store app either crashes or gives me the unknown error with that number. I was charged for the movie. Fun stuff.

    I'm having the same problem...

  • Error message when trying to play iTunes purchased movies

    Hi,
I have purchased a TV show from iTunes using my Apple TV 3rd generation and whenever I attempt to view the purchased item a message appears on the TV saying "An error occurred loading this content. Please try again later".
I have tried power cycling, restarting the router, resetting and restoring, without any success.
    Any ideas?
    All help appreciated.
    Thanks.

After fiddling around with it, I have managed to fix this by adjusting the Internet speed preferences in the Apple TV settings menu.
Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

  • TS3694 what does it mean when it says error -42110 when trying to watch a rented movie and how do you fix it?

tried downloading movie again but showed same error.

Perhaps try the "Error 3001," "-42110," or "5103" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document:
