Spits out OS 10.4.6 install DVD

I recently bought the family pack version of the OS 10.4.6 software and installed it on an old iMac other than the one below (upgraded the hard drive as well). But the reason I'm here is because when I tried to update the newer iMac (500 MHz 20 GB) it spit the DVD out after about 30 seconds (I was holding down the C button and later tried again ownly holding down the shift button). I don't know what is wrong, but the DVD worked fine with the other computer. The Firmware was up to date (4.1.9). I have OS 9.2 (I think) installed and OS 10.2 installed (with two accounts but I know the passwords). I don't know how to boot off the DVD. Please help.

Could you give instructions? I need a dual firewire cord? And then I need to boot the computer in target disk mode by holding down the T button when my iBook is connected and I have the install DVD in my comp? What do I do from there? Should I put the DVD in after I boot up 2nd comp in target disk mode? What do I do once it is on the desktop of my iBook (I'm assuminng that is what happens), from there do I drag the DVD into the drive on my desktop? Will I see the installer on my iBook or on my iMac?
As you can see I need more along the line of a detailed outline because I don't want to screw anything up on my computer and I can't find any instructions on the site that tell me how to actually "boot" from from a DVD on another comp in "target disk mode." But that link was useful. Please help if you can.

  • Arch disk check keeps spitting out strange error's after installing BT

    Hey guys,
Basically earlier today i figured i wanted to try out backtrack 4 but I could only have a maximum of 4 partitions on an hd at a time.
So i deleted my partition that contained my arch home directory (didn't really have any data on it and i figured i could just make a new one later) to create an extended partition to put backtrack on. Well all went well except now when I select arch instead of backtrack i get a disk check error.
This is the first part of the error, I can't exactly copy and paste it as its on my laptop.

okay so I've done some digging and it seems my fdisk is extremely "discombobulated" theres abunch of random characters everywere and its not readble until you get down to about the last 25 lines.

  • PowerBook G4 spits out Mac OS 10.5 Leopard Install DVD

I bought Mac OS X Leopard and wanted to install it on my PowerBook G4 however it spits it straight back out of the disc drive. I tried to restart the computer and hold down C - this did not work either. When I test it out on my PowerPC the installation setup folder appears and it works. (I bought the Family Pack). How can I setup my PowerBook G4 so it will except Mac OS X Leopard Install DVD? Do I have to reinstall my original computer operating system, wipe my hard-drive and start again? Why didn't APPLE say there was a problem with PowerBook G4?

There's a few ways you can install Leopard on that powerbook. I'm assuming your powerbook meets the requirements.
If you have a firewire drive handy>on another PPC Mac using Disk Utility, partition the firewire drive or don't your choice>choose in Disk Utility options APM ie Apple Partition Mapping>have the Leopard DVD on the desktop, do not boot from the Leopard DVD disc>use the Disk Utility restore function>select the name of the Leopard disc as the "source" ie drag it to the source window>drag the name of the destination partition to the "destination" window select apply. Once done you can boot into that Leopard "installer" partition and install to your powerbook. This method is much faster than using the optical disc.

  • Dvd player not responding, spits out dvd

My dvd player does not read dvds. It just spits out the dvd. This has only begun after I installed Lion.

The thing may need cleaning, go to your local office supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit.

  • Spits out Office for Mac 08 but accepts other DVDs

I just got an iMac(it's from 2011 if that matters) and I want to install Office for Mac 2008 on it but everytime I insert the disc, it just spits it out again. The disc is not damaged and my iMac accepts other DVDs and CDs.... It has 10.8.5 as the operating system
Please help, I use Office quite a lot!

Spits out Office for Mac 08 but accepts other DVDs
This is a sign of your Mac expressing its taste.
Take the hint. There are a number of alternatives to Office today, most are better, some are free, none have Microsoft's insatiable tendency towards inefficiency and bloat:
    OpenOffice (free)
    LibreOffice
    NeoOffice
    Pages
    Numbers
    Keynote
All read and write their Office equivalent formats.

  • DVDs spitting out -- HELP

    Hi there.
    I have an iMac DV+ 450. This model has a slot-loading 4x DVD-ROM drive.
Recently, it has begun spitting out every DVD disc I throw at it -- commercial movie DVDs, burned DVDs, even OS X install DVDs.
System profiler shows the 4x Matsushita DVD-ROM drive, and we used to play DVDs in it. I have corrected permissions, zapped PRAM ... I can't think of what else to do. It handles CDs fine.
Any advice would be appreciated; I don't want to give up the family room TV (or my own Mac) to "Sharkboy and Lava Girl."
    --d.

Thanks, but I've never had any additional USB devices plugged into this computer.
I could not get it to work, so I bought another cheap iMac off Craigslist and pulled the DVD drive from that unit and swapped it into my daughter's.
It works fine now. I never did figure out what the problem was, but she is happily watching DVDs again.
Thanks again for posting a reply!

  • Dvd drive making noises and spitting out dvd

I don't know what's going on but whenever I put in a dvd the dvd drive makes a lot of noise which doesn't sound good, and sometimes it spits out the dvd or shuts the dvd program down and then my computer freezes on a black screen and i have to shut down my computer by turning it off. =(
This computer is about 8 months old and I don't think there should be any issues from my end. I have never dropped it or spilled anything on it. I unfortunatley never bought teh apple care....i know dumb! but nonetheless it's not bought. Does anyone know how or what i can do to resolve this issue besides not playing a dvd? Thanks any advice helps!

It sounds as if there's a mechanical failure with your SuperDrive. Since you're still under warranty, I would take the machine into an Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose and fix the problem.
    Good luck,

  • How to recover I photos from hard drive?  I was told by Apple tech to reinstall my MAC OS X Install DVD, after doing so all of my data has been wiped out.

I had an issue with my Mac and called Apple the tech told me to reinstall my MAC OS X Install DVD.  I specifically asked if I needed to do a back up before doing so, I was told that it would not be necessary none of my data would be lost.  After installation everything was wiped out.  I am most concerned about retrieving my I photos.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You did not do a reinstall but rather an Erase and Install. If you don't have a backup, which you should have already had, then you need to see the following:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

hi, i have tryed to install os x leopard, (its a old imac) , disk utility is greyed out , my install dvd cant find any hdd to install on , my only way to format and configure is through terminal but dont know what commands to execute...
i tryed diffrent commands such as diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ Disk1
diskutil list , wont show up my harddrive , i now its functionally cause it shows up in disk utility with name and i can get info about it , but everything is greyed out can only switch between "erase , partition , recover , Raid ,....
when i click the apple in the top left corner the whole menu is greyed out... what to do ?  help me please
    Sincerly AppleNoob92
p.s i have no experience in apple imac's at all never used before, but im kinda windows nerd so computers i understand but this imac make my insane, cant seem to find any solutions anywhere on the WWW....

Your HD may be crashed, so you probably should use the oringinal install discs to run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode. If error codes appear this confirms a hardware failure. In addition you cannnot repair the HD using Disk Utility from the startup disk, you have to use the origninal Install discs that shipped with the computer or the most up-to-date version of OS X on a disc that you have.

  • Is there a workaround to make my PowerBook not spit out dvds?

    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Since I updated to OSX10.4.8 recently my reader spits out dvds I have burned on my external Lacie burner using Toast 6.1.1 Titanium. This never used to happen. I've read previous posts on this topic but nothing suggested there helps.
Is this a deliberate attempt on the part of Apple to control dvd burning? I am using material that does not have security on it for demo reel purposes only.
Older dvds that I burned prior to the update are accepted by the machine while new ones are not.
    Can anyone please help?

Is it the same question than in this post ?

  • Spits out DVD-R instead of opening iDVD per system pref

I have tried DVD-R and DVD+R, 8x and 4x... spits them out after 10 seconds of confused contemplation. Pre-made/homemade CD's and DVD's play fine. When I want to burn a disc with iDVD or burn folders... nada under me user AND test user. Arrrrgh!

Nope. Even with a choice of what to do with myself, we still spit out the disks.
My uppity mac book will only use the $20+ packs of DVDs? What is that about, Mac? What a SNOB! Mac is so good that it is too good for my DVDs? I'll have to sell the computer to buy the compatible discs!

  • CDs and DVDs are literally spit out of my iMac

I don't know if this is normal, but my iMac really spits out the CDs and DVDs when I eject them. It used to stop midway and hold it in place like my Powerbook does.
I already tried repairing permissions and all that. I was going to run down to the Apple store at 5pm today and I just wanted to know if I should even bother going. Because if this is a normal thing for the computer to do, I might as well not even bother.
BTW my warranty expires on May 16th and I don't have the funds to get Apple Care.

So I took my iMac in yesterday and they had to replace the bezel. It was a warranty service, but my 1 year is up today and I hope nothing else happens to it. I don't really have the funds to get applecare (struggling college student), but I also found out my iMac is within the serial numbers of the faulty iMacs and I guess I have another year for any problems that arise from that.

  • 14 out of 15 MAcbooks installed snow leopard succesfully. One machine keeps spitting out the CD! Why? What can be done to upgrade machine?

Trying to upgrade Os X. 14 out of 15 MacBooks installed succesfully. One machine keeps spitting out the CD! Why? What can be done to upgrade machine?

Sounds like the optical drive may be on it's way out. It should be possible to connect the Mac to one of the others by firewire and do the installation by booting from the install disc in the donor Mac, then choosing the remote HD as the target when prompted.
