Splash screen with progress bar and multiple jar files to load

Hello,
I have been looking to the new features in java 6 for splash screens. I haven't implemented this never before and i was wondering how i could do the following with java 1.5 or 6:
I would like to see a splash screen with a progress bar that "grows" when every jar file has been read.
At this time i call my application like this from a shell script:
exec "$JAVA_BIN" -Djava.library.path=$LIBRARIES_J3D -classpath xxxx.jar yyyy.jar zzzz.jar ...
where xxx.jar, yyy.jar and zzz.jar are very heavy jars.
So i would like to see in the progress bar 33% 66% and 100% when they are loaded.
I do not know if this is the right forum to ask for this. If no, please point me which would be the ideal one.
Any help will be very useful. Thanks to all!

  • MacBook Pro frozen on startup screen with progress bar and then it turns off

    Hello, I have a MacBook Pro 15" of early 2012 with a i5 Intel, 4GB of RAM  and a  500 GB HD.
I was installing the new suit of Adobe, when suddenly my Mac got frozen, vertical coloured lines appeared and the image on screen went distorted. I had to reboot the Mac by holding the power button until the screen turned off and when I turned it on, the lines appeared again and it itself automatically rebooted. Then the screen (now with no vertical lines) got frozen on the startup grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel for hours with no response.
I tried to follow the steps of the official mac forums like verifying the HD with CMD+R and then Disk Utility, it says everything's fine; the same happens with CMD+S, no errors. I reinstalled Mavericks with the same CMD+R. I already reset the PRAM, SMC  and performed a Safe Boot staring up in Single user mode and Verbose Mode and nothing, the same startup screen. I made too thins thing of holding shift until the progress bar appeared.  Three days later (Today) I repeated the steps again and finally the verbose mode. Now, when I turn it on, the startup screen appears again (Apple Log and spinning wheel) with a progress bar. When it completes, the Mac turn itself off.
if you can help me, please. I don't know what else to do. The last thing is technical service.

  • Gray Boot Screen with progress bar & SMC Issues

    Hi All,
Over the last few days I've experienced the grey boot screen with progress bar three separate times after the finder froze and I was forced to manually reboot my imac. Previously I have only seen this during a Firmware update.
I am also concerned about the Finder freezing. It has been happening when I've been trying to access any of my external hard drives at random intervals (connected via usb, and f800). I am concered that my SMC controller might be failing as these drives are testing fine on other computers and in drive test programs. Also, the f800 drives have been self unmounting.
I had my internal drive replaced by apple a few weeks ago, could they have somehow damaged the smc controller unintentially? Or is this simply a Snow Leopard hiccup? (I'm running 10.6.2). I'm really starting to get annoyed with having to hard reboot or constantly reset my SMC. Any ideas before I take it in to a store?
    Thanks!

I have found other users have this same problem when using windows. My setup worked fine until I did a windows update. Now apple partition is inaccessible. Guess the windows update whacked the apple partition. Apple should have a workaround. Bad Windows!

  • My Macbook will not load past grey screen with progress bar?

When I start up my computer the grey screen with the Apple and spinning wheel appear, then underneath a progress bar. once the progress bar is full it shuts down? Help!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That bar appears when OS X checks your hard drive, and it's not a good sign that your Mac turns off, because the hard drive is damaged.
Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is to take the Mac to an Apple Store or AASP to get the hard drive repaired. If you didn't make a backup, try DiskWarrior to recover data, and buy an external disk to make backups. All hard drives fail, but we don't know when they are going to fail

  • Won't wakeup w/o power button, then grey dimmed screen with progress bar

    Hello to all,
My PB Alu works flawlessly but for one problem. I can't wake it up as I usually do by simply touching the keyboard or opening it up.
I now have to push the power button for a long time, then it kind of restarts but instead of getting the usual startup, I get the last screen I had when the computer got in sleep mode, totally dimmed and in black and white (slightly grey) with a progress bar at the bottom. When finished, the computer returns to the screen I had when I put it to sleep.
A long slow procedure and specially annoying when an external screen is connected.
    What can this be?
    Thanks for the help.

  • IMac 24 won't start up, grey screen with progress bar, then shuts off

My computer froze all my applications yesterday. When I went to restart it a grey screen came up with the progress bar at the bottom. It would advance about 1/3 and then the progress bar would start over. It would advance about 1/3 again then the computer shuts off. It does the same thing trying to start it up in safe mode. I started it with my snow leopard disk and it will allow me to restore the computer with time machine (which we have), but I wasn't sure if I should try something else before that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

  • Help: grey screen with progress bar at startup, no success repairing in disk utility

I got my MacBook pro in December 2011 and never had an issue with it until this same thing happened in February 2013.
Basically, what happens is the computer starts to run really slowly, so I forced shut down. When I tried to power it back on, I can't get past a grey screen with a progrerss bar that doesn't move for about a minute, and then the computer just shuts back off. I tried to some research to figure out how to fix it myself (grateful for my ipad as a back-up computer) but I'm afraid I'm stuck now.
I tried running disk utility from recovery mode to verify and repair disk, but I only got errors saying "disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed up files." When this all happened in February, I bought an external HD for the Genius Bar dude to back up my files and do whatever he did over the course of 3 days to repair my system. Apparently it was only a temporary fix. However, like an idiot, even with all of that hassle, I never set up Time Machine (I know, I know, spare the lecture. I definitely will this time around). I'm really not too concerned about the data on my drive because most of my important stuff is on USB storage/my work computer. However, there are pictures on there that I'd really like to salvage.
So, before I do the walk of shame back into the Apple Store, can anyone offer a guide for saving my stuff and repairing my hard drive myself? And, if I have a worst case scenario on my hands, how expensive will it be to buy/install a new hard drive?...or just how to prevent it from happening in the future? Thanks in advance.

The fsck drive check at boot is failing to fix your drive, gets stuck and the hardware shuts down the machine if a OS isn't loaded in time.
"disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed up files."
Yep, it will either have to be replaced or zero erased and completely reformatted and everything installed again.

That's ok, the TimeMachine likely would have backed up the corrupted data and fail to properly restore anyway.
Since you can boot from RecoveryHD, that means you can install OS X on a blank external powered drive and boot from it and access the internal drive for your files. Or as a last restort install Data Rescue ($100) and that can read even deleted files off the drive bypassing the file system etc.

  • Mac frozen at boot-up screen with progress bar

I was running windows 7 on boot-camp and when i shut off my computer by pressing and holding the power button and then turning it on again and letting it boot to mac os x by itself. It turned on started to boot but a progress bar popped up under the cog wheel and it was taking a while so i shut it off by holding the power button and tried to turn it on again. I turned it on the same thing happened except this time the progress bar disappeared when it was less than 1/10 loaded and the cogwheel kept on turning for the next 15 minutes. Now every time it turns on it does that and won't boot up mac os x. Iv tried to hold the shift key while it boots and tried to boot it up by holding the options key (didn't work...), oh and windows 7 still works in boot-camp. Can i get some help please?

I have asked that your post be moved to the intel forum, you do not have a G5.

  • Splash Screen with a progress bar at the bottom

    Hi,
I want to display a splash screen with the progress bar at the bottom just like eclipse , limewire etc

  • Photoshop CS5 "full screen with menu bar" problem

Hi, I use Photoshop in a Mac computer. In CS4 when I work in "full screen with menu bar" mode, is really a full screen because the workspace go beyond the dock at the bottom. I mean, the dock is overlaping the workspace. In CS5, in the same mode is not really a full screen, the workspace ends above the dock, and the space at the bottom of the screen is wasted. I want to know why they changed that, and if there is a way to fix the problem (Hide the dock is not an option for me. Neither to use standard screen mode, cause that way I can't move the image around when zoomed out)

    The following may work:
    1. Record an action and use insert menu item for:
View>Screen Mode>Full Screen with Menu Bar
                                and
       View>Fit on Screen
    2. Go to: File>Scripts>Scripts Event Manager.
In the event manager dialog choose the settings as below.
Everytime you open a document, the screen mode will go to full screen
    and fit on screen.
If you decide that's a pain, you can go to the scripts event manager and remove the action.
For this to work, the action you recorded has to be in the actions panel.

So, when the electricity came back i turned on my Mac but it is *Stuck in the Startup/Boot Screen with a Grey Apple Logo,a Empty Progress Bar with stays for 1 or 2 minutes and a small Spinning Wheel which would Spin Forver! I Have tried the SMC and Pram reset but no use, i have also tried to insert my OS X Lion 10.7 Installation disk and it would not load if i hold the C Key in the Startup, I Have Managed to go to Disk Utility Through "Recovery HD"  but the Volume "Macintosh HD" is Greyed out and Unmounted and i cannot repair it. Details about the iMac:
iMac 21.5 Inch i think from Mid 2010,
OS X Lion installed maybe 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 (im not sure)

Grey screen with Metallic Apple and spinning gear
Sounds to me like your hard drive failed on you as a result of the power going out.
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive/
If your iMac is a Mid 2010 you qualify for the hard drive replacement program from Apple.
Apple has determined that certain Seagate 1TB hard drives used in 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac systems may fail. These systems were sold between October 2009 and July 2011.
I hope I helped you with your problem.

I tried to download IOS 7.1.2 but my phone has been frozen on a screen with an apple and a bar that hasn't progressed for 11 hours I have an Iphone 5S

Hold down the home button and the power button for about 25 seconds or until you see the apple logo. Thats a hard reset and it should restart the phone and bring it back to the slide to unlock.

  • Splash Screen Inconsistent between CLI and JAR specification

Unlike just about any other java API, the SplashScreen API treats jar-launched and command-line-launched invocations of the same code differently
According to [the Splash Screen Tutorial|http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/misc/splashscreen.html]
a command-line invocation of a Splash Screen application would take the form
    java -splash:images/splash.gif SplashDemo
whereas a jar-invocation would allow the splash screen to be specified in the jar manifest with the notation
    SplashScreen-Image: images/splash.gif
This doesn't APPEAR to be inconsistent but the implementation is in fact not consistent.
In the jar-manifest approach the splash screen image is searched relative to the classpath implied by the JAR whereas the command-line version is searched relative to the current working directory. The documentation fails to explain this leading to lots of headscratching when, for example, a Splash Screen works right in a runnable jar but not from an IDE such as Eclipse. If, instead, the image was loaded relative to the classpath (getResource()) then the jar and the command line would work the same.
At the very least, there should be an additional command line switch supporting this classpath-based loading functionality from the command line or failing that, better documentation of what is going on. Neither the tutorial nor the javadoc explains the CLI syntax sufficiently. I spent several hours of headscratching trying to understand this and I'm by no means a newbie.

The only thing I can wonder is: why do you want command line invocation at all?Simple. In the field, I only want jar invocation. As long as it works in the field. In fact, I would probably build in a way to disable the splash screen when running from the IDE myself - apparently it isn't even needed to do any work to make that happen ;)

Complaining about documentation here isn't going to do you much good. There's lots of confusion about this on the internet. Just google it. I didn't find anything that gave me the answer, just references to Oracle's documentation which doesn't answer the confusion. That's now been remedied, though, by me:

Oracle really should do something about this.... because Oracle certainly will not. Again: complaining in this forum does nothing. Because like StackOverflow this is a user to user forum, not an Oracle tech support site. It won't be read and it won't end up on a todo list. Sad but true.
