  • Splash screen won't come up

I have installed JWS and just did what was written in the document...but when I clicked on the link on my web page, it would print the information desciption on my .jnlp file. Not even the splash screen will come up, it was like JWS wasn't even there. I am running out of idea, please help.

Hi guys, thanks for your help. I have finally get my application going with JWS. The problem was I forgot to set the MIME Type in the xml file.
Now I have another problem, after I got my application running, I would like to try to get an applet to run. The problem is I always get 2 errors after the splash screen comes up.
    1. Unable to load resource: http://corp08/WebStart/WebStart.jar.
I thought there was something wrong with the way I jar the files so I jar it again and get the second error.
    2. Could not find main-class com.norwestlabs.WebStart.applet.WebStartApplet in http://corp08/WebStart/WebStart.jar
So of course I jar the files again, then the whole thing goes back to error 1, and then 2, than 1 again...
I have check my jar file, my main file is in the root directory and I have only 1 jar file. I have also check the path in my .jnlp file, they seem to be correct.
    Here is my jnlp file:

  • Blue screen won't start

    Hi,
My Mac Pro won't start, after grey screen with Apple, it goes to a blue screen and it stays blue. The desktop doesn't build up.
Is this a hard drive failure? Any suggestions? Thx,
    Kwest

Boot in safe mode. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal.
If you're able to boot in safe mode, try rebooting as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Method to build a logo splash screen at the start of the DVD

We are attempting to place a logo splash screen on a DVD. We want the logo screen to be viewed at the beginning, when the disc is first inserted into the DVD player. We want the logo to be seen only one time before the main menu appears, and not seen again while the user navigates around the DVD. Right now our logo screen comes up at the beginning followed by the DVD’s main menu. That’s the first part of what we are trying to accomplish. However, when the “DVD Menu” button on the remote is selected, the disc goes all the way back to the logo splash screen. The viewer has to sit through the logo presentation again before moving on to the main menu. What we want is for the main menu to appear when the menu button is selected on the remote, and not the logo screen. I could not find the answer in the manual. I’m not sure what this process (or menu) with the logo is called for an index search. Commercial movies on DVD have this function. Any ideas?

hey Ralph, also make very sure your connections tab's disc "menu" option is NOT set as the splash scrren.
so what you have to do to see it is:
click on your connections tab. then click on any grey area in your connections window.
then the discs connections will appear on the conection tab.
the 'title menu" connection should be visible, if that says "splash scrren (or whatever you named the splash scrren" change it to "main menu 1" and that should do it.
also, amke sure you follow the above instructions as well!
    hope that helps

  • Gnome splash screen won't close with Beryl

Gnome splash screen doesn't autoclose, mouse click required. This is annoying but not a big problem.
But when beryl-manager autostarts with Gnome then splash cannot be closed with mouse click at all. I have to switch to Metacity, click on splash and then switch to Beryl. This is really annoying.
Do every Gnome+Beryl users have the same issue?

Captain Spaulding wrote:I don't use beryl or XGL for that matter, but you can get rid of the Splash by klicking on it and then run gnome-session-save from a CLI or by using ALT+F2.
But my Gnome session is saved automatically. Is this different? :?

  • IPod (5th gen) has strange bars on screen/won't start - iTunes 7 problem??

Hello, I have been having strange problems with my iPod for the past two days.
•Wednesday night I downloaded some TV shows. For some reason I ran the software update and allowed my computer to download and install the new iTunes 7. After installing, I turned off the iPod and went to bed.
•Thursday morning I was disappointed to find that my iPod would not turn on (I pressed menu and play at the same time and nothing happened). Later that day a coworker suggested that I press menu and the center button at the same time and it came to life again!
•Thursday evening I watched my TV show with no problems and the iPod seemed fine. However, this morning I tried to turn on my iPod and now it's not working again!!
I press menu and the black screen with the Apple logo flickers on for 1 second, then goes blank and then comes up again for 5 seconds, then disappears and a horizontal row of very thin lines shows up, running along the bottom 1/4 of the screen...I tried pressing menu & center button, menu & play...that causes the black screen & Apple logo to flicker on and off several times over and over, until after about 8 seconds it cuts off the top half and then becomes blank or the horizontal rows of lines occupy the bottom 1/3 of the screen.
In doing some quick research it seems that a lot of people are having problems after the iTunes 7 update, could that be my problem? If so, how do I uninstall it??
    Thanks!!

    Hallo Lisa
I have identical the same problem, also as from wednesday night, the only diference is that i was still using the previous version of iTunes. Took my iPod (5th generation) to Apple, they swopped it out for a new one saying it was a Hard drive problem, I don't agree, New iPod has same problem. My old iPod's, a 1st and 4th generation as wel as a mini and shuffel has no problems at all. I then uploaded to iTunes 7 to no avail.
In adition my 5th gen ipod makes sounds that to me sounds like the hard drive atempting to start up every time aprox 5 to 8 sec with the apple logo apaering at the same time for hours on end.

  • Mac Pro - Grey Screen; won't start

I am having problems with my Mac Pro.  Had to replace the graphics card last week as both cinema displays packed up (coloured lines all over both monitors) and the computer has been fine for the past day or so.
During some work tonight, the computer froze and completely stopped working - had to power down by holding down the power button.  On restarting, the apple logo comes up but after a few seconds this disappears and, at the point where I expect the desktop to load, nothing happens.  I have left the compute for 10/15 minutes to see if it starts but absolutely nothing happens.
Again, I am forced to power down by holding down the power button and the machine will not start at alll now.
Have reset PRAM but this has made no difference.
Grateful for all help and suggestions.

Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

  • IMac dead, grey screen, won't start from disks

I'm sure this is going to go over familiar territory.   We have a housefull of Macs and have had for a long time, and I'm fairly used to hunting down issues.  This particular one is a problem I've fortunately not seen before.  I suspect a serious hardware problem, but only got a look at it once it was fairly advanced.
My teen son was using this computer, a 21"  iMac, I think from 2007 (it was a hand me down from his Mac-savvy Grandma).   He says that it was freezing on him for the last week or two, and he'd have to restart.  Then a couple of days ago when he restarted he got a folder icon with a ?, so he took the install discs and reinstalled the OS, which was 10.4.   Yes, at this point he'd already goofed, because he'd gone over his data, and though he had an external HD, he had not used it with Time Machine for several months.  I don't know what he was thinking, but he's 16...he probably was not.
This was where I finally came in. Yes, get old Dad involved once an issue has reached the crisis stage. :-\
At that point his desktop showed a fresh install of 10.4, which we wanted to update at least, and possibly retrieve his last Time Machine, but I figured there was likely an underlying problem.   Disk utility showed that the disk needed repairing, but I figured that needed to be done from an install disk, and for good measure, I should probably run the Hardware Test as well.
Now things got complicated, because I have been unable to get the computer to start from any install disk I've tried.  We have two sets of original install disks from this generation of iMacs (two similar computers), and complete install discs for 10.5 and 10.6, as well as Disk Doctor.   The computer refuses to start up from any of them, with either 'C' or 'D' held down, nor will it start up in Safe Mode.  And now the fresh install of 10.4 has disappeared as well.
All that occurs on restart, after the 'bong' is a grey screen. If a disk is in the optical drive, there is a brief sound of it spinning up, then silence for a good while, maybe 2 mins, then the disk is spit out.  Nothing more.  I have zapped the PRAM or whatever it's called these days, with no change.
We did have an external DVD drive somewhere and I'd like to try that, in case there's a problem with the optical drive itself, but I am thinking this computer may have both disk and hardware issues.
    Any advice welcome...thanks in advance!

Hi, sounds like the Hard Drive is dying, & that can prevent booting up.
Hold alt key on bootup, what shows as boot choices?
Have you unplugged all peripherals, cords, & AC power, let sit 30 minutes & try just with AC connected?

  • MacBookPro stuck on load screen/won't start

I was updating iTunes this morning but had to turn my MacBookPro off before it could finish. Now it is stuck on the apple screen with the cog loading. I have tried starting in safe mode and also tried cmd option p r but to no avail. Can anybody help me?
    Thanks

I am having the same problem! I downloaded several updates including a update for intel macbook pros which could not install because of an error. It asked for a restart and said i could retry installing the update that did not take when it tried to shutdown it just went to a blank desktop for much longer than it should. I tried force quitting and other key combos which had no affect- so i turned it off manually by holding the power key. when i restarted it just stayed on the gray screen for ever and got extremely HOT! I turned it off again/waited until cool and tried starting in safe mode by holding shift. It did not work. just stayed on the gray screen with the apple and the spiny thing again. I then tried booting with the OSX disc the software installation came up and I used the disc utility like suggested. I checked the permissions which showed several to be wrong, so i repaired them by using the permissions repair. I quit the install disc software and chose to restart. IT DID NOT WORK

  • 1100 Blank green screen - won't start up

I have a nokia 1100. When I turn it on the screen just goes to a blank green screen with a faint flickering black box.
It remains like this until turned off. The only way to turn it off is to pull the battery out, since none of the buttons work.
    anyone got any ideas?

Think the ONLY hope of revival is thru' Nokia Care ..that too somewhat doubtful for this very old device ...Try your luck ...

  • Tecra M3 - Stuck at Toshiba BIOS Splash Screen

Not sure what to do here with this one...
Bit of history... we bought my niece a used laptop for surfing/movies which worked fine when I had it a few weeks setting it up and such, she had it a week and it's now dead. Some days it works, some days won't even turn on. So, after much work determined it to be a motherboard issue, and since it was a $200 DELL, we optedto buy another laptop.
I grabbed a used Tecra M3, been playing with it all week, games, surfing, you name it, seemed a gtood solid performer. I give it to her, she goes upstairs, plugs it in, powers on and just sits at the splash screen.
Two nephews have no issues with theirs, wondering if possible the power outlet surging and killing the systems? She's 16, so (hopefully) knows how to handle a laptop carefully.
Regardless... can't afford another dead laptop. Stuck at startup BIOS splash screen, won't go beyond that. Won't let me into the BIOS, and if I hit too many keeps too many times, laptop just beeps per keystroke.
    Any advice?
    Solved!

Well, not much of a support forum... 2nd posting and neither issue I had had any responses at all.
In case someone see's this because having the same issue, the hard drive was very loose, barely making contact and fell off when I touched it. Pushed it all the way back in and works fine. Pegs on the panel designed to prevent the drive from becomming lose, not very good, still allowed the drive enough wiggle room to shake loose.

  • LENOVO Y2P stuck at Lenovo Splash Screen

I partitioned my SSD into two parts trying to install another OS to the newly unallocated partition. Rebooted into boot menu, but couldn't find my USB drive in the menu. Anyways I said nevermind it's okay and decided to boot normally. It booted without any problem and then for whatever reason I shut down the pc. Turn it back on a little later, now it's stuck at the LENOVO splash screen, won't boot no matter what I do

Do you have a Windows 8 or 7 recovery media? If so, boot to that, enter advance options and do a system restore or boot fix (boot fix is your last option if using a Windows 7 recovery img). This might fix the boot but, the okr system is broken for good unless you purchase recovery disks.

  • Splash screen: some doubts...

I've read tutorial but I don't understand two things:
    1) Is possible to create a splash screen passing the image directly in the code? Without using jar o line command...
    2) How can I specify the time I want to show the splash screen before the start of the real application?
    Thanks,

Using an image for a Splash Screen without using the Manifest file
I am posting this information, as I too (like the owner of this post and many others), were looking for an alternative to specifying the image location in a manifest file.
    Solution:
    JLabel label = new JLabel();
    label.setIcon(new ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("images/load.gif")) );Hope that helped!

  • BLACK SCREEN on start up with 3 beeps, FREEZES when power unplugged, IF IT BOOTS splash screen freezes, OVERHEATING REQUIRED TO BOOT - 0x7B, Event 41 kernel-power

Issue: One day I unplug the power, the screen freezes and I get frozen music sound. I shut down, start up, I get 3 beeps (1 short 2 long), which indicates a Video failure according to the Thinkpad Laptop beep code list.
How I solve the issue day-to-day: I turn the heat up - I disconnect the battery and hard drive and plug in the power then turn it on. I will wait until the underneath is searing hot with a blanket blocking the fan's flow of air, I mean way hot because any
cooler and it won't start. Plug stuff back in, Hard drive first, Battery second, turn off with power button hold, unplug power, replug power.
I turn it on, no beeps, it goes past the first Lenovo screen, then gives me a prompt because it "didn't shut down properly" and continue regular startup. What happens next is the Windows logo appears,
and just as the animated windows logo starts to move (you see 2 small colored dots on the screen), it freezes. I see this every time, I know naturally that it means that the laptop is still too hot to go past that point, so I shut it down and try again. After
about 5 - 10 tries it will go past the splash screen and into the login area, then it's all fine.
Sometimes when I unplug the power from the back by accident it will freeze. By accident I mean that the connector wiggles it's self out easily. This unplug freezing thing started happening about 1 week before the 3 beep black screen problem started rolling,
    so I'm putting 2 together.
           Errors:
I got a Blue Screen of Death the first time I started it up with the overheating ritual, but I never got it since. It was 0X7B.
I got another Blue Screen of Death about a week ago, but came as it was on already and I had been using it, and said something about disabling Cache or Shadowing in BIOS. I never got it since.

There are critical events for a few things like Kernel-Power, Event ID 41, Task Category (63). There are 19 of them, each day 1 or 2 of them but mostly 1, so this maybe corresponds to my daily ritual.

I came across a very sluggish performing control panel for Nvidia before and after this problem, and I tried installing a newer version, which I had to jump through a few hoops to do, like uninstalling first, not just updating. At first it said that the
driver wasnt for the system, which was wrong. I made it work somehow, but it was still sluggish. I rolled it back to an earlier driver, and now it works fine. No sluggish performance / slight freeze window thing going on.
MSCONFIG.exe, Boot Advanced Options: I have tried twice to change this 1 setting, check box "Number of processors" and change to 2 processors, because I do have 2 processors. I have been able to change
this in the past, but it does not save the setting now, and I believe this option was selected before I started having problems, and settings did not disappear then.
What could this be. The small round BIOS battery? The video card like everyone presumes? (I.E. the entire motherboard replacement), Software? The wiggly power input area? (Not enough power getting in?), Firmware of some sort? The BIOS software being wrong?
