Splashy shut down to login screen.

I installed Splashy as outlined on the wiki. It work. But when I try to shutdown the computer it goes to the main login screen. Once out of 5 times it tried showing the unloading splash but it was wrong colored.
I edited the darch-white theme so that the blue is green. How do I change the moving boot so that it is HTML:a7e354 color.

It sounds like some application or process is broken or verklempt.
Some things to try:
* When this happens, launch Activity Monitor (Utilities folder). Select "All Processes".  Sort by CPU and see if any processes have gone wild.
* Try starting up in Safe Mode to see if the behavior persists.

While my computer is idle the fan will kick into high gear and run for hours.  I cannot do anything such as log in, sleep, or shut down using the mouse or keyboard. I can turn off the computer with the power button only. This started with my upgrade to Mountain lion. (Along with a multitude of other problems).

  • Macbook Pro 10.6.8 won't shut down. Blue screen with spinning wheel.

it's an 15 inch macbook pro. since I bought this computer was working fine about last year. Somehow, start of this year, the problem begins. Everytime when i opened microsoft word 2011 on mac or Photoshop cs5, and quit the software as normaly. When i try to shut down the blue screen with spinning wheel apears. this spining wheel is endless. But funny thing is that after use other software such as games, web browser (safari) etc. and quit them. when i shut down there was not a problem. only word 2011 for mac and adobe photoshop cs5. Any solutions?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a system crash or freeze, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search that archived log, and if necessary the older ones below it, for the same information.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
    Do the same with kernel.log.
    Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Lion shutting down to black screen +

OK there are many problems - the first just started today Xmas day my imac bought almost exactly a year ago is shutting down to black screen after about 5 mins use - I had this mac repaired in November and got it back with a clean install of Lion 10.7.2 (cos I had already bought it) - I created a partition and installed Snow Leopard on the smaller partition
Mac and Lion were working really well until today when Lion just refuses to run for more than 5 mins without black screen crash
If i start in the Snow Leopard partition there are no problems whatsoever so Im wary about swapping out RAM and motherboard solutions ....
I repaired what I could using disk utility when Lion was up no problems reported before next black screen crash
However I tried to reboot into recovery disk and found it does not exist! I tried to mount a downloaded disk recovery utility which I got from Apple but it said something like disk recovery doesn't exist cannot create disk recovery
any thoughts folks I don't see this as a hardware prob otherwise why would my SN partition be working perfectly? I'm happy just to stick with SN but I like to keep up to date and Lion should be usable and better

No replies on this? I still have same problem and am confined to SL 10.6.4 I'm even wary of upgrading this to later SL versions because it is very stable

  • Mac OSX will not boot, when I log in, it shuts down after grey screen and grey loading bar show up: PLEASE HELP (:

So here is a lowdown on my problem.
I start my mac OSX, I hold down the alt/option key and load my MAC osx drive (which is the only drive available; however, when i do not hold down the alt/option key it will go to a black screen that says "no bootable device, press a key when device inserted").  Continuing, it then goes to my login screen where I have my username, and I can enter my password like usual.  I enter my password, hit the enter button (like I always do), and this is where my problem begins.
After I enter my login and hit enter, the screen goes grey, with a little apple symbol in the middle and a different shade of grey loading bar underneath.  This grey loading bar shows up for about 10 seconds, fills up about 10-20 percent, and then shuts my computer down.
No matter what I do, this process repeats over and over, and heres where the problem gets worse, and this part is VERY IMPORTANT and is the most depressing, stressful part of the process.
NONE of the startup/boot commands work except holding the alt/option key.  I can't hold: Command plus r; command pr  to reset PRAM; shift to enter safe mode.
I really dont know what to do here :/.  I have files that I want on the hard drive, that are pretty important but not critical.  I gave up on wanting the files back but now I want to simply WIPE my computer and re-install a clean version of OSX onto the computer, but I CANNOT GET TO THE REINSTALLER :(.
More information that may be helpful:
I do have a partition on the HDD that I was going to use for Bootcamp, but it does not have anything installed on it (thus causing the "no bootable device" screen to load, and probably causing the boot commands not to work).
My version of Mac OSX is 10.8.4. "MBP 15.4/2.8/16GB/768 flash"
The last time I restarted my computer, my mac OSX RAM was down to 1.75 GB, with nothing open.  Usually when nothing is open the free RAM is around 10-13 GB (I know this because I have the activity monitor always open, and I use my computer a lot).
Again, boot commands will not work, except for holding the alt/option key.
So if anyone can help me fix my problem(s), which are:
1: using boot commands; 2: reinstalling mac OSX; or 3: getting my files,
I would love you forever.  I would really prefer 1 or 2.  Thanks for reading this.

Oh and one more thing, I do not have a disc drive in the mac osx.  The version I have comes without one.
I am very puzzled about what to do right now.

  • User login immediately shuts down after login, guest account works fine.

Problem started last night, the charge wont go past 5%, if i remove charging cable my computer automatically shuts down. while its plugged in, if i attempt to login to my user account my computer immediately shuts down. however my guest account works just fine and logs in as normal.

Resetting User Password in Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks
Boot into your Recovery Partition by hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
    In Terminal, type:
    resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • My iMac G5 1.6 Ghz Won't Boot. Shuts Down at Gray Screen. HELP!

Hi guys. I need some help. I have an iMac G5 that seems to be having some serious problems. It is a 17" 1.6 Ghz w/ 1GB of RAM.
    The problem:
    • When I press the power button, I get the beautiful Mac chime, and the LCD turns on to the gray apple screen. I get the spinning gray bars below the apple, and then...it shuts down. Sometimes it doesn't even make it to the gray screen and it shuts down.
    What I have done recently/tried.
    • I installed iLife '06 and all the updates a day or two before this began.
    • I reset the PRAM.
    • I tried booting in safe-mode...no luck.
    • I tried starting from the factory CD. The drive begins to spin, and then it shuts down.
When this first happened (yesterday), I started it in safe-mode, and everything looked ok. I zapped the PRAM, and then started it up, and once again, everything looked ok. That was last night. When I got home from work tonight, none of those things worked, and I am now looking for some help from you guys. Any suggestions? Thanks, in advance, for the help.
BTW, I think I'm running 10.4, but I'm not certain because I can't start it up to tell.

See if your machine falls under the parameters of power supply or video and power issues.
Please post back and let us know,
    Miriam

  • MacBook Pro Mid-2010 Intermittent Shut-Down and Fuzzy Screen

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro Mid-2010 has been having some problems recently. Hope someone will be able to help me with this. Below are the symptoms that has been showing.
    Symptoms:
    1. Intermittent Shutdown
    2. Screen going fuzzy (when I give it a slight tap it will be fine but everything just hangs)
    3. 3 beep sound
    4. Can't start up (The sleep light will just stay on but nothing appears. I have to force shutdown and try starting it again.)
I have recently done a clean install of Yosemite but the problem is still occuring.
I also took it down to Singapore Apple Service Centre to try to get the problem fixed. But the initial tests shows that all the components in the Mac is working fine. I will need to pay for a full test as my Mac is out of warranty hence I did not send it in.
Below is a copy of the recent log after it shut down by itself.
Appreciate if someone can help me with this!
    Thank you!
    Regards,
    Kai Yuan

I just had the same problem! Just installed Mavericks a couple of days ago but everything was running perfectly till just a couple of minutes ago watching netflix and working on Dreamweaver my macbook just shutdown. I had to Turn it back on and in the first try it shutdown immediatelly again, then i tried for second time and as soon as i got back into my account a bunch of programs start sending erros as my clock was set to a different date. My battery seems to be fine, i even check the report in the system preferences, it had 50% of battery and was plugged in so i am guessing that is not the problem.
    Here the report:
    Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          3356
      Fully Charged:          No
      Charging:          Yes
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          6626
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:          367
      Condition:          Normal
I had to have my motherboard replaced last year as my macbook its a 15 inch Mid 2010 so i took it to Mac Store.. they didnt charge me for anything as it is a problem that Apple acknowledge the problem was in their side. I am just hoping i dont have to deal with this again.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • IMac won't shut down?  Blue screen w/ spinning icon?

I bought my iMac in 2010 and I've had absolutely no problems until recently.
    My problem:
Every time I click "Shut Down," the applications quit and the screen turns to light-blue with the "spinning icon."  It looks like it will eventually shut off, but it never does.  The light-blue screen just stays there and the icon just keeps spinning.  Every time this happens I am forced to hold the power button until it shuts off.
Does anyone have any solutions?  Thanks.

Try the suggestions in Apple's Gray screen appears during startup. Those would be:
    1. Dsconnect EVERYTHING from the iMac and try to re-start normally.
    2. Reboot in Safe Mode.
    3. Reset the PRAM
    4. Run Disk Utility from the ORIGINAL Install Disc that came with the computer.
    5. Check all connecting cables
    6. Remove third party parts including RAM.

  • IMac intel 10.6.8 will not shut down. Blue screen comes on and spinning wheel goes round.

My iMac intel will not shut down. The version is 10.6.8. To turn it off I have to use the the power off button. Is there any one who can help me to solve the problem.
The blue screen comes on and the spinning wheel goes round and round until I have to turn it off by the power button.

I am having the same problem on my Mini.  I found an earlier thread (now archived) that suggested that this spinning wheel on shutdown of SL has something to do with power management settings.  Another idea was that it is related to EyeTV (which I do have running on this Mac).
Any ideas from the community on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!  (I have done the typical steps of repairing permissions and (from the Install CD) running Disk Utility, which reported no problems.)

  • IPod shuts down after white screen

I just replaced my 5G's screen (original was cracked), but after starting up, the screen is immediately all white (apple logo or menu never shows up) for a couple of seconds, I hear the HD, and then it shuts down. I can not reset using apple's method as it just keeps restarting the same way with the white screen?
Anyone have an idea of what could have gone wrong with my screen update? The instructions were pretty straight forward, and I followed them carefully.

i believe that i damaged the connector somehow (no idea how), and have sent it in to get the logic board replaced.

  • Shuts down after loading screen.

When I try to start up the computer it shuts down before I see the log-in screen. It stays on the loading screen for about a minute then shuts off. I tested the hardware, and it checked out fine.

The files are not backed up. I do have both install disk. Everything was running fine, but the day it started I was online a window popped up saying that my application memory was full and required me to force quite programs that weren't being used. I deleted some files, shut her down, and have not been able to log-in to my desktop sense.

  • IMac shuts down after gray screen/spinning wheel

Every time I start my iMac G5, I hear the chime and then see the gray screen Apple with the spinning wheel, but then it shuts down, never making it to the blue screen and desktop.
Can anyone tell me what the cause of this might be?
    Thanks!
